As someone who just had knee surgery the indoor walk feature is a fantastic add for my rehab.
Love love love the reduced turn notifications for trail runs!! I’m not running fast enough to need to know there’s an upcoming turn that I was not choice about.
Thanks Des. Hard to decipher what the updates do from Garmin’s messaging, so appreciate the breakdown!
Always happy to help. Thanks!
You are informative and don't muddy things down. Love your videos and channel, thank you..
Appreciate the kind words, thanks!
The position sharing feature, while very basic when you think about it, is amazingly useful! Thanks for the detailed update review.
Very welcome. Thanks!
Thanks for the video on this! Love your channel.
Sure thing and thanks!
June hot ... it's 12 degrees C and a freezing N wind in Yorkshire today mate with intermiitent rain 🤣
Great video, as always 🫡
Thanks!
Can't live without having an "edge" on my bike rides : D
THANK BROTHER BIG HELP
that tease 👀
감사합니다 ~
Thanks Des, great update... Garmin what gives, no pin drop for Google/Android. That sucks!. I do think the hrm source selector should be a great feature, if it works the way I think it sounds like it does.
JFC it is about time!!! This is what I absolutely loved doing with my apple watch and now I can use my FR965!!!
Gracias por el video, cuando crees que Garmin lance el Epix 3?????
Des is always three steps ahead. Appreciate the tutorial of new features
Happy to help!
Are you dropping some hints for us, Des? I think the routing options with Apple Maps is a really good addition for Garmin!
Thanks
🤙
So, I guess the 945LTE might get all this in a month or 2? Or finally a new LTE version.
Interesting… the Karoo 3 just released has this feature too. From your testing is Garmin or Karoo easier to use regarding the pin drop feature?
DSW (daily suggested workouts) not showing anymore in calendar or prompting before a race or in the morning report. I have to restart my watch everyday to get it to show me the DSW, it seems that they disappear during the night.
Apple map navigation works on 530 as well
Do you know when they will add android and Google map support for that location sharing?
Hello, thank you for this video. Regarding the change of source, when I deactivate it, the watch displays the message: "Heart rate data may be less accurate". I don’t know how to interpret it. Does this simply mean that there is a risk of dry data loss if the external source fails? Or does Garmin use both sources during the session for certain purposes, to perform more accurate calculations of the cardio, and adjust the final rendering of the FC that would no longer be exactly that provided by the external sensor?
Hello! The Climb Pro 2.0 feature (information about climbs without having loaded a route) is not active on the 965, right? Do you think they could include it in the next updates? (in this, if I listened carefully, we don't talk about it...)
From time to time, my Garmin Connect takes the data of my watch (Forerunner 265), instead of my cycling computer (Edge 1040). I have my Edge 1040 as my primary training device, so I'm not sure what else I can do. Any suggestions?
Desfit, which model is your ultimate choice of Garmin watch?.
And what about the 945 LTE? Or the Edge 830?
So I guess my Venu 2 plus doesn't get any of this? That's too bad.
If you came here for the edge, it's only bout the watches.
Can you answer this question? What is
the brightness of the epix pro (gen2)
screen in the brightest and darkest
mode? few nits:
Have you tried the one plus watch 2
You mentioned updates to Edge 540 and 840, but what about, but what about 830 and 530, which also have maps, but you didnt mention them in your list of devices that were getting this update?
Power profiles that don't work, bluetooth issues and no more daily suggested workouts. It's a shame Garmin broke so many things in this update. Holding off this update on my Fenix 7 until Garmin fixes these regressions.
I'm on the fenix 6 pro and edge 530. Both work fine. I guess I'm not upgrading anytime soon :p
I've been having issues with my suggested workouts for a few days as well. Didn't make the connection with the update but now that you mention it. It works when i restart the watch though
The sad part is, all these issues were reported very early on in the Beta (with 50+ upvotes each) but Garmin proceeded to ignore them for over 2 months (and 9 consecutive beta releases) and then push a beta firmware with these known major issues into production. Very disheartening.
Fenix 7x pro here and everything working fine for me.
This update is the biggest disappointment because so many features are broken. In the 17.xx beta all these issues were highlighted but Garmin didn't listen and released this buggy fw. No DSW, power profiles broken, Bluetooth, restart/crashing etc. The whole forum is talking about and many people downgraded to 16.22.
Seems to be a theme with Garmin - software in beta, get lots of reports of bugs, ignore and roll it out anyway, I don't understand why they even bother with the beta if they aren't going to listen to the feedback.
Power profiles are def broken. For example in my custom power mode for strength workouts I have always on display off. Well after the update the screen stays always on.
💯 agree. I’ve lost hope with their software updates - always creates more problems that never get resolved. After two frustrating years with Epix2 I’m now in research mode for my next watch and it won’t be a Garmin.
@@curtisgoodwin8962I’ve been on epix and epix pro and this is the first real issue I’ve had. I’m going to post the issue on their blog for the software release so hopefully they fix it quickly
@@curtisgoodwin8962same here. After I had to plug my Fénix 7 into the laptop multiple times to manually upload activities that just didn't sync, neither through BT or WiFi, I'm switching to Huawei. The Fit 3 does everything I need and has super stable BT connection so far. And I also can upload music to it through BT without having to use a cable either.
The update just bricked my Epix PRO Gen 2, but fair play to Garmin as after speaking to customer services this morning, they are sending out a brand new replacement ! Not going to update my Fenix 7X just in case !
I steer clear of updates from Garmin, as they tend to do more harm than good. Stick to the firmware that has no bugs in the things you use and disable updates, folks!
Hi there. Since this last update my training suggestions are gone. Every time I want to start my daily suggested training, I have to restart my device. Without that, my suggested trainings are not shown. Do You have any suggestions? Thank You. I use a Garmin Tactix 7 Amoled.
I’ve got all the updates stated. But mapping not showing, is it only in the US?
Juuuuune… hummmmm new watch’s from Garmin??? 👀👀👀
Do you have to have an inreach to use the messenger app?
Will the messenger app work with the 1040?
Do you plan on addressing the issues tons of Garmin users are seeing using the Elevate v4 HR sensor after software updates, not initial release. If you look in the forums you will see major issues with HR detection for FR 165, 265, 965, Fenix 7, Epix. Are there plans to retest these devices with recent firmware updates and see if the devices are now 10-20 beats of a HRM for even simple activites.
Does anyone have any idea if they’re making a new Garmin Tactix watch this year?
When will the edge 140 launch?
What's about the MK2 / MK2i ?
Would love an update that solves the MS 11 problem
I don't get it why Fenix6 pro is not supported.. Maps, course nav - everything needed is there.. why then?
Still confused with the Messenger App. Maybe not a big use case, but could this be a way to get messages to display on someone’s device when they are paired to an iPhone?
Yes
Hey Desfit!! Do you know when the instinct 3 or fenix 8 is coming out? Or when do you think they are coming out?
Nobody knows. Best guess is later this summer. Keep in mind, they will release 8 pros about a year after that before you invest in the 8.
In the end he says June is turning into a hot month. Maybe there will be a major announcement from Garmin concerning the watches?
Try using daily suggested workouts or power profiles with this update. Both hideously broken
Still waiting for a proper sleep tracking and Sp02 algorithm on the FR 245.
I never underdtood navigation on a garmin, specially the older ones with no touch screen
Is training readiness being rolled out garmin 945. Disappointed standard 945 hasn't got it. Or will it even. Please help
imo kinda useless feature
incredible that the phone pin drop navigation took that long to be released. Also, incredible that is only available for the latest model 🤬
Seems to be only available for Apple because I can't share to Garmin Connect on Android.
I guess the Garmin 245 has been relegated to the graveyard for some time now lol
Was that a complete list of Garmin devices or just the new ones?
Some new but also previous models like the 955 and 255
How to update using iPhone?
Hi Des i did a firmware update on my forerunner 955 solar on 28May and till today my HRV is still not working Nor my sleep tracking...Can U Please help?
Garmin support will be your best bet for issues such as that 👍
Which software version is this on epix pro? I already have 17.23 and forum doesn’t show a new version. . Or is it the 17.23?
Yup, 17.23 for Epix
Anything in the works for Instinct 2 series owners?
Like what? With that screen it’s going to be limited in it’s update s
No Web browser connect function sort of a killer for me, not a fan of phone apps
I just got my Fenix and I think it's crazy that they have a GAMING activity (like with a game controller icon, so not physical activity) but not a dance activity. Really hope they add dance activities to all devices soon.
Doesn't work with Google Maps, boo.
😩
I'm about to jump on a Garmin 965 or a Suunto Race...should I wait a bit? :-)
965. You won't regret it
@@lhzsdgsfbvv Get the Suunto - garmin is so buggy and bad UX and UI
Or the Suunto.
It has a different case.
There’s quite a price difference. Garmin is 200€ more and no Sapphire Glass.
Hellooo in 0:38 what is that watch face sir ???
The stock watch face from an Epix Pro
@@DesFit aww thats a shame i have fenix 🥲 thank you tho
downloading....
It's a shame Garmin broke the basics. I purchased the newish 265 in Feb this year but very disappointed with it's failure to load activities to connect. I have at least 2 to 3 failures per week which I have to revert to loading via Garmin express on a laptop 😔.
I never had a problem with previous models.
I used to recommend Garmin before but not any longer if they fail with the basics.
Never had a issues with my 265
I'm using older Garmin watch, (Fenix 6 x) so no update enduser like me!
I want to know that as well.. Fenix 6s Pro user...
Last week updated on my f6 pro.
Instead of pushing unfinished software on paying customers they should maybe fix the persistent sync issues with the Fenix 7. I'm almost done with Garmin for that fact alone and will probably switch to another brand. And that's not a new problem. My Fénix 7 Pro had problems syncing activities through BT from day one still under the old software and it never got better, only worse.
Garmin needs to add the ability to use your phone as your bike computer with a Garmin Watch, like Apple's had now for almost a year. It's almost silly to still be using bike computers when your phone is a much more capable computer, unless you're racing. This is basically a must have feature for me at this point, and will determine my next watch.
Honestly, why would they. They’d lose so much money doing it since majority would not buy bike computers anymore. Also, phone gps tracking isn’t as precise as gps devices and can be inaccurate. And I’m not even talking about the implementation since that would probably need to be a whole different app for a phone. And in which case you’d then need to support all phone platforms (android, iOS, etc.)
@@qwerty-or1yg First, it would work IF you had a Garmin Watch! The watch would be the GPS, Power Meter/cadence/speed sensor connection, HR/HR Strap connection, etc..., the Phone would just be a display of information, as well as maps, etc.... if you also had that feature on the watch. Second, Apple is already doing this and coming for more of their market share, I'm sure we'll find out a lot more on Monday at WWDC if they are introducing even more FREE fitness features to all their existing Apple watches. Garmin is ALREADY fragmented enough with just their watches alone at multiple prices points, not to mention all the bike computers too. Apple could slowly kill both their watch and bike computer market with software updates, as well as battery life improvements.
Apple already has the best in class HR and Sleep detection, that's a great place to start for all the other stuff which is just software based outside of battery and GPS which Garmin is best in class at.
@@qwerty-or1yg First this would be only if you had a Garmin Watch with those available features. The Watch would do everything it currently does tracking rides, but use the Phone to display information or perhaps for maps as well. Second, Apple already has this feature and WWDC is Monday where they could be announcing even more FREE features coming to those already with an Apple Watch and Phone. It's clear Apple is coming after Garmin, and most of that is just software updates. Apple already has the best in class watch HR and Sleep detection, it's battery life and GPS accuracy that aren't up to snuff with Garmin. The rest is just software, which runs a lot on HR, Sleep, and GPS data.
@@qwerty-or1yg I don't know what's going on, tried to reply to you twice but it keeps deleting? Basically you'd just use the phone as a display, so you'd still need the Garmin Watch.
Computers and phones are both expensive but in a accident and given the choice, I would rather replace a broken bike computer than a broken iPhone.
Nothing for instinct 2X…..
Why… for the love of God, has Garmin yet to program the recognition of movement on a bike without selecting it as a workout?
If you ride to the store, coffee shop, etc… that’s significant movement.
Zero recognition for it. It thinks you’re on the couch.
I don’t understand how a watch this expensive doesn’t have an auto-detect feature 🤷🏻♂️
Auto detection is more trouble then it's worth.
For a start as GPS isn't on 24x7 you'd need to be constantly checking that. Plus with 70 sports profiles you'd need to distinguish between so many different possibilities.
It takes a few seconds to start a bike activity
@@DesdinovaCrux but it detects walking automatically? No issues there. I don’t want to upload my coffee shop bike ride to Strava. And no, it isn’t that quick starting a ride. You have to wait for it to detect GPS, etc… it’s cumbersome and enough to discourage you from doing so. For actual cycling it’s great… I just think it’s ridiculous this feature doesn’t exist and isn’t better. You could ride around all day and your watch thinks you’re laying down. So dumb.
Auto detection requires consistent and predictable movement tracked by the accelerometer, GPS is far less involved. And this can be done reliably with something like walking and running where your arms move in a specific pattern. With cycling, there isn’t a predictable pattern since your hands are on the handlebars which makes it far less reliable for automatic detection.
Hi, I would use the garmin speed sensor v2. Put it on your wheel hub and it will record any activity done on your bike. The best part is that you don't even need to have your garmin edge or watch with you
No way
So Enduro 2 is not included I take it
Yes it is. Everything the Fenix 7 above is on the e2
@@DesdinovaCrux Thank you !
Wow, is June turning into an Instinct month? 🫣
