@StitchMethod Guitar Forgive me, as I enjoy watching these (especially the Jerry ones🤗)......but wouldn't the "BB King Box" include the natural 6th (G#)? It's always been my understanding that one of the things that adds to his minor blues soloing is the use of the 6th (similar to how Clapton or Mayer bend to the major 3rd while in minor, and even how Jerry slides from maj 3rd into min 3rd before coming home in a major key)...I was taught the BB Box as G#-B-D-E-F#....maybe a lesson on this could appear in the future😏😁? Regardless, this is great, and I have already watched it twice.
@StitchMethod Guitar what would be REALLY REALLY cool is if you did a lesson "Dancing in the Streets." Like a modal lesson mixed in perhaps? OR a breakdown of one of Mayer's Dead and Co. solos...."Tennessee Jed" or "Shakedown Street," something that shows his growth as a player. Pleease?
This vid blew my mind when I first ran into it! Now I'm back 2 years later and BOOM!! Blew my mind!! Again!! Twice, with the same video!! Ya gotta keep coming back, kids! Here, the thrill is never gone! God Bless you Mr Stitch!!
These lessons are great. Possibly the best on TH-cam. No distracting guitar tones or noodling. Just clean sound and clear explanations of what is important.
Thank you so much,Your method of teaching has completely changed the way I approach guitar. Your explanations of how chords and scales work together takes me back to my days at Berklee (in the 80's I was a trumpet player, not a guitarist) and my harmony and composition classes. I look forward to your videos each week and am a better player for them! Again, Thank You!
You sir, are a forensic musical examiner of the highest order! (Your show should be called CSI-Sarasota!) Even before you started expanding my mind with your insight, I knew BB was somehow using the secret Jedi notes of which you always speak! I was gonna ask you about this exact tune when; Voila!! The things you teach us are the REAL magic in the music! Thanks!
Fantastic playing. Thank you for these tips, recognizing these intervals by ear isn’t my strength, so there’s big benefits to having it analyzed this way.
Great Great Great video... this is the first time ever that I comment a video in youtube, and it is because I really think worth it. I have seen the video several times to understand every detail and the sequence of the songs and solos is very clear now for me. Thanks, man! I think this has been a huge boost for my guitar playing path.
I am new to your channel, but it’s the best thing I have found on TH-cam in a long time. Not how to play a particular solo note-for-note, but how to understand how solos work. Really, really interesting and useful - thanks!!
It nov 2018 I just got this in my suggestions. You always shred the nuances into musical understanding. That in it self makes you outstanding on my guitar journey. So Thank you again.
My birthday is on the 7th of September. I just find this in your videos. I'm a big fan of yours. Not only are you a great guitar player. You're a great teacher as well. I don't have my guitar with right now. If you could please just reply thanks for watching. I'll be able to find it again. Blessings,❤ and Aloha from Maui, Hi.
@@StichMethodGuitar thanks brotha, but it tomorrow and I'll be able to go to my Gmail and find this link. Thank you again! BTW I ordered myself a QTRON pedal for me as a birthday gift. What would be the next pedal I should think about add to it. I have a Ibanez call redone custom with two Seymour Duncan pickups for knobs a three-way switch. What should I be looking into because that's my only pedal. I did get the Qtron plus. Please help me out or a nicer small amp? Blessings,❤ and Aloha from on Maui, Hi.
Man I know I'm late to the party lol but I absolutely love the way you break this song down, as well as your teaching method ........... keep up the great work..... you deff have my sub. Be blessed my friend
I've always played the turn around to the V as: GMaj7>F#7sus4>F#7 The pinkie stays in place as you move down a fret from the G chord to the F# (becoming the sus4 of F#) and then the pinkie slides down to A# (resolving the sus4 to major 3rd of the F#).
lol ok. but go listen to the original studio version. it's there (maybe in the horns). now, if you'll excuse me, i have to post the same comment on every other lesson for this song on youtube. I may be a while. :)
BTW.... I flew from Seattle to Denver last week and caught Trey Band at Red Rocks. Fantastic show. Also, if you get a chance to see Vulfpeck (opening act), check them out. Good stuff!
Another great lesson, Ian. Thanks for explaining the chord progression in an understandable way (although I had to go back and watch it a few times to get it, since it went by pretty quickly).
Have to be up at 515 but can't put the guitar down - have to stop and get a proper sleep - thanks - you have changed how I relate to this instrument and it keeps evolving
AMAZING! Now I finally "Get" that odd GM7 B.B. was brilliant in a reserved, understated signature sound. And he played high on the neck because of his hearing, according to himself
In some stuff I have listened BB says her often hears saxophone and tries to emulate that. If I got it right a lot of that is in his big long vibrato notes
The other thing is the written on screen chord progressions are so useful. Can you please explain some time for us rank beginners out there, what you need equipment wise and how to create these home made loops you always have
Thank you for such a clear explanation of his note selection while soloing. Your discussion of the key is misleading however. It's clearly B minor. Dominant 5 chords in a minor key come from borrowing the raised 7th of the harmonic minor scale (vs natural minor).
Key is not your starting point. That is a common thought. Key is the Major Scale that the chords are from. It’s a common debate. This would be a 6 2 3 type progression in D also known as a B minor progression. Which happens to be a minor 1 4 5, but watch my Black Magic Woman video. You are not borrowing from a Harmonic minor, you are actually making your turn around chord a dominant chord and thus creating the sound of a harmonic minor... it’s cool stuff
Ian, I wrote a song called "The trill is gone" back in 91. It's kind of Triumph style . I wasn't trying to copy Triumph it just came out that way . It's never hit me that BB King already had a song by that name till today . Just a random thought :D
Thank you for posting this fantastic lesson on B.B. King, and for the great, soulful solos you played during this lesson! I never knew it went to a GMaj7 before the V/F7 chord. I thought it went to a G7 there. I really like your explanation of how these chords come from the key of DMajor, knowing that Bm is the relative of that key. Ian, would you please break down and teach one of your "average B.B. solos" from this lesson when you have time? It would really help me get a better grasp of what's going on here. By the way, I am enjoying and learning a lot from your YT lessons! Thanks again
I always get into arguments about the key of a song like this. I have learnt to say, in this example, it's an aeolian chord progression in the key of D...or a Bm tonal center.

@StitchMethod Guitar just saw your actual BB Box video. My bad! Keep up the awesome work!

What all do we get for this?
There’s something about BB King’s style that just makes you feel good. Happy blues.

I've watch a bunch of B.B King how to videos and this was the very best explanation. Thank you.
These lessons are great. Possibly the best on TH-cam. No distracting guitar tones or noodling. Just clean sound and clear explanations of what is important.
F**k! this is the most clear and throughly explain I've ever seen man! you're doing some really great work there!

Stitch, I love your material and on top of that, you have such a calming energy. Keep it up friend!
I don't understand why your videos don't have 1 million views each!!! Thank you so much for everything.
These are SO much better than all the 'here's how to play X song' vids. Thank you!

@@Rick_Cleland I know right!?!
Fantastic playing. Thank you for these tips, recognizing these intervals by ear isn’t my strength, so there’s big benefits to having it analyzed this way.
Thanks Ian, another great "key" explanation that throws me off but also teaches me real way to identify what key I'm in...
You do an awesome job of breaking it down.
That C# over the V chord is just brilliant.
Love the unique corner painting - clever.
man, we do need videos like this.
solos and harmonies analysed are the best way to understand how to make music.
thanks a lot
Love this! This is what i needed to jam and impress my dad :D
That’s my guitar! Awesome to see it in your lesson.

You didn't screw up the solo Stich, I'm so proud right now ;D

Nice lesson Stitch. I always enjoy your company.

this is why stichmethod is the best
Since I went Stitch I am targeting all the right notes thru intuition. Amazing!

I'm a simple man. I see BB King, I like!
I've always played the turn around to the V as: GMaj7>F#7sus4>F#7
The pinkie stays in place as you move down a fret from the G chord to the F# (becoming the sus4 of F#) and then the pinkie slides down to A# (resolving the sus4 to major 3rd of the F#).

I absolutely love this guy his approach to teaching is amazing 👍 thank you so much 🙏
Awesome! Different than the tabs but it still sounds awesome. BB would do that. Play it different but it always worked.
This is sweet!! Going to see if I can get s loop going and have a go

Fantastic video! I downloaded your pdf which helps understand. Would you have a tab of that whole solo?
Ian, you should talk a little about the string gauges you use on your various electric guitars.
Sei un grande maestro complimenti👏👏👏hai un tocco bellissimo.👍👍 Bravissimo... 👏👏👏. Ci faresti vedere l'intro del solo solo grazie👏👏👏👍👍
great stuff, thanks , BB the best!
Like You said a lot of guitar players play it the way they do. Seems that they are some what tone deaf. dough. You did a excellent lesson .
stich is the bob ross of guitar lessons.
BB's guests played from sheet music, BB played from his soul.
