I am Valencian, I live in Valencia and I like it, because without ceasing to be a city, it has the charm of being a big town, I like your videos and I appreciate the interest and the time you invest in doing hard work, thanks
I lived in Valencia for 5 months during my Erasmus exchange and now I am coming back there for work! :) ALL MY HEART WITH VALENCIA! Nice video, kisses :*
I am from Barcelona. Born, raised and lived there for 32 years. Spent 2 yrs. working overseas and finally moved to Valencia 10 years ago. My opinion. If you're single and have good incomes (very important) which allows you to live and work inside the city limits and not far awary, and you don't speak spanish, definetly BCN is your place. But keep in mind this 2 factors because they are essential (SINGLE & GOOD INCOMES). Now, if you're carrying a family with you, specially kids, so your priorities are good education, International schools, a bigger house possibly with somme ammenities (garden, swimming pool, sport areas..etc) then no doubt, your place is Valencia.
That's an inciteful comment you made towards the end which I can relate to- about what becomes important to you after you have lived for a while and seen many things. I have lived most of my life in and around NYC. I am starting to evaluate cities for the next phase of life, and Valencia is the first one I'll try. Your videos have been so helpful, thank you very much! I have a few other cities in mind: Marseilles, Genoa, Palermo, Lisbon, and Bilbao. Maybe you could try them first and make videos?! 🤣🤣
I agree with you. I lived in Barcelona and now I live in Valencia. Valencia is adapted to reside with quality, it has a calm rhythm of life, sea, places, history, architecture and buildings, perhaps not as exuberant as Barcelona but wonderful. To live Valencia.
Super underrated channel! Even though you live in Valencia and I am looking more at Madrid, you have glorious content. Please do more live, hour long content!
@@ANTOANETTA I have watched some of them but it's been a little while. Your Valencia v/s Madrid was especially helpful. I'm going to go back and view them again :)
I think the scooters and all the people in Barcelona would put me off. Reminds me of Jakarta too much. I lived in Stuttgart for awhile and Valencia sorta reminds me of Stuttgart based on your videos. Planning on seeing both cities late this year but Valencia is on the top of our list.
I was just in both cities last month. I pretty much agree with your assessment. Valencia is chill and local vibes and Barcelona has diversity and sophistication but is also gritty and transient
Give it another 12 months and Valencia will be become overrun tourist hell hole like Barcelona. All of our local shops are being replaced with Bike Rentals and Yoghurt Shops. All the locals are gone from the old town. Just gormless sunburnt tourists now - screaming and singing at 1am on a tuesday night. Que guay! :)
Hello Antoanetta, my wife and I will be visiting Valencia this summer 2022 for two weeks to walk, see, and breathe in it's life. We also want to move to Valencia for a few months next year and your videos have been very inspiring. For what I've seen everything is gorgeous though we tend to like more of the newer parts like Gran Via or Ruzafa, which is probably where we'll look for a place. We do love the old town, it's history and stories too however but prefer less noise and more relaxation. We've visited Madrid and Barcelona in the past but we are looking for something more slow paced to enjoy so we're excited to move to Valencia for a few months and experiment. Plus we live in San Diego so we think we'll feel right at home being at a coastal city which I think has somewhat similar weather. Love your videos, thanks.
Thank you! I am happy I can help with my videos. I just lived for a month in old town and I dont like it for permanent living. But yes, Russafa and Gran Via are very nice :)
as a tech worker who used to live in San Francisco, now in Portland Oregon, you definitely answered one of the questions I had. it's definitely Barcelona but I want to be in over Valencia. thanks.
We are hooked on Valencia. Love the park and how easy it is to get around. Just after 3 days, I felt I understood how to get around using train, metro, and bus. I haven't had the time to find a great restaurant there but coming back this fall. I like Russafa. I plan on moving to Spain in 18-24 months
Depends of what are you looking for and your lifestyle: Barcelona is much more open minded and cosmopolitan, its very vibrant , Valencia its a beautiful city ,has amazing beaches and good infrastructure, nice teraces but it dose not offer a buzzing creative atmosphere, its rather a chill town ,good for families and quite afordable, but if you are looking for something more sophisticated than Barcelona is definitely your choice
Thanks for a great vid! We really enjoyed some of the vids on your channel, they're very informative! I'd like to ask your opinion/advice on this: we are a couple thinking about moving to Valencia, but are not sure about whether we can stand the heat. Does it really get very bad? A climate comparison showed it being hotter than Barcelona, and also more muggy conditions. Having lived in both cities, what's your experience, and how do you deal with the heat? Thanks! 😄
I'm with you, Barcelona looks more suitable for tourism, " a must visit city". Valencia sounds more welcoming. I picture Barcelona as when I visit Vegas, I have lots of fun there, but after a few days I want to comeback home to Los Angeles.
Hey Antoanetta! I'm so glad to see see you again, I was getting concerned something happened to you, I justt had a feeling. I'm happy to hear that you are feeling much better now :) Valencia definitely seems like a better fit for me than Barcelona, for the qualities you metnioned ( more green, less tech-centered, less touristy, more welcoming....) Thank you for another hopeful and inspiring video! Just just another few months, and we'll be there :)
There are also people preferring to live just outside of the city which offers a middle ground? People who want to live in more green surroundings near Barcelona tend to choose a place like Sant Cugat. Or people who like the beach choose Gava, Sitges or Castelldefells. I wish I could afford to live on the foot of the Tibidado myself. What are the places people can choose from near Valencia?
Minute 3:50 l am with you, Barcelona is more avant-garde and multicultural whereas Valencia is more... kind of traditional and less entrepreneurial, hence there are less job opportunities and salaries are lower, but the Turia garden is a hot spot for those who value green areas. The current mayor is actually an agricultural engineer and holds a PhD. You may like or hate his political views, but it is undeniable ... The chap knows how to run the city for all its dwellers. In fact, now citizens and tourists alike can visit the city Hall for free, has pedestrianised some streets in the historical city centre, create bicycle lanes, etc. Barcelona is more business-like (la pela es la pela = money moves the world [rough translation] ) but both catalans and valencians are proud of their cities. Good Video. 👋👍
Great video. I live in Amsterdam and want to assess where my next home in Spain should be. Any ideas about short term rent (2 wks) outside the Airbnb bubble?
This seems to be a very charming place, I hope I can visit sometime in the future. Seeing and sharing places like this is why I love traveling and make videos so much! And please keep up the great job! Subscribed!!
Could you compare with Malaga - weather, green space, expats, prices, neighborhoods, things to do - not sure which is bigger- your usual comparisons...thank you!
So glad you are feeling better! Great information and visuals. Man, those fallas crowds are wild! I attended Las Fallas in 2004 as part of my curso intensivo for our semester abroad in Madrid. I hated Valencia after that and have never gotten over it. It was my first experience there. As soon as we got off the bus, teenage boys started throwing these tiny fire poppers at our legs and feet. They scared me and it stung a little. The crowds were overwhelming and we couldn´t find a bathroom. The effigies were impressive, but the fires were so intensive and the heat from the crowds made me feel uncomfortable. We arrived early in the day and left after midnight and arrived home in Madrid exhausted. I returned in 2008 because a girlfriend and I were staying in Barcelona and she wanted to take a train down the east coast of Spain and see Valencia. This experience was better, but all we did was tour a museum in the ciudad de artes y ciencias. It was exhausting. Contrast my experiences with your videos. I see beautiful parks, cute restaurants, cafes, and bars from your videos. I´ve never been to the Valencian beach. You show me colorful labyrinth like neighborhoods that remind me of Madrid de los Austrias. My reaction is like, "that´s Valencia"?! I need to try Valencia again. People swear by it. Maybe the 3rd time is the charm? I also don´t know how to navigate Valencia. I don´t think I can walk from the beach to the historic city center to the cuidad de artes y ciencias. I think maybe the city is really spread out? I love Barcelona, but I have to confess, I´m bitten by the Madrid bug. I just can´t get enough of Madrid. I really appreciate your videos comparing the major cities of Spain.
Thank you so much for your comment! Yes, if you saw only Fallas it’s a twisted version of this city 😜 there is so much more to Valencia. It is easy to walk around everything is 20-30min walk. Yoh will love it. Give it another try ☀️☀️☀️
Both cities have their merit. Valencia has better weather and is more quiet. Barcelona has a larger cultural offering in terms of theaters, movie houses. And more varied food. Valencia has a nicer park in the Turia park. Barcelona on the other hand has the Tibidabo, Collserola range and Montjuic but you need to get there first. Valencia has a better beach but Barcelona has Sitges around the corner which is an awesome place to go to. And for living Castelldefells is hard to beat. Near the city but on the beach. The mid-mountains and mountains near Barcelona are better. You can go skiing from Barcelona. Either in la Cerdanya or the Vall d'Aran. The countryside in Catalonia is generally greener and cooler. You have places like la Cerdanya to escape the summer heat. The coast around Valencia is warmer but from Barcelona you can go through the Costa Brava which is less developed and greener. Valencia has a great city centre but outside of it you don't have the variety of neighborhoods of Barcelona. The Valencia region has lots of automotive related industries and a massive harbour. Barcelona has industry, a harbour, services and IT. For sports Barcelona wins. Valencia is cheaper.
Ok.. Now you've made my mind. I'm in IT area and I was deciding between BCN, Valencia and Málaga.. I love hiking, nature and beaches. Coming from Rio I'd love to get to the beach on a daily basis. The fact BCN is a huge city w/ lots of interesting stuff to do + go skiing + beaches .. it made my mind already..
I’m considering Valencia and Lisbon. I find Valencia more interesting (sights, cultural options), but I like the value Portugal offers (golden visa, cost of living, etc). My plan involves, living as a retired expat from the usa, a home purchase, enjoying my city, and traveling). I wonder about some intangibles, are the citizens welcoming to other nationalities (from South America, Central America, as well as the USA ) and if my partner was 30 years younger than myself (social biases). The differences in the welcoming environment that each city would offer. I’m in the determining stage now with eyes to visiting both areas in late 2023, and deciding early 2024. Any helpful thoughts?
Antoanetta I’ll be visiting Valencia next month and wanted to ask if there any restrictions for some of the sites or restaurants as far QR requirements and also I know that Valencia is home to the best Paella so any recommendations on restaurants. Thanks.
Antoanetta, Valencia seems ideal. Big question, if you go to a place daily for your meals (like a diner or something) is a TIP required as it is in the US?
Thank you for the Video 👏 I’m looking to move somewhere in Mainland Spain Or the Canaries this September, from Birmingham UK. I’m unsure where to focus on. Do you have any thoughts on Canaries Vs Mainland Spain? Your top 5 places to move to? I’m currently exploring the best ways to get into Spain and stay there, with the different visa options etc… Look forward to your wisdom. Gary
Barcelona of course has more to offer but Valencia has more than enough things for 99% of people. On top of that Valencia has better weather (warmer, sunnier, with less rain) and it is way cheaper than Barcelona regarding apartments.
I don't mean to be forward or rude but, where are you from with your accent that you don't speak Spanish? I am from San Antonio TX and the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. I was in Spain for 3 weeks last year and had no problems communicating. I went to Madrid, Barcelona, Seville and Granada and was able to get around in all those cities in Spanish!
hi there, first of all, i am impressed with your channel for a great introductory over the place i plan to visit this coming may,2025. I am still following your channel and doing some of my homework such as how to get back and forth as my plane landed in Valencia and I will spend about 4 days in valencia then have to go to Barcelona for a convention then after done then need to back to valencia to catch my plane. if possoble i would like to take train driect from barcelona to valancia airport. without staying another night in valencia, is this possible? can you introduce the best paella i can try in valancia, the restaurant name ?
Apparently, I only want to live in cities that begin with a B. 😁 Born in Baltimore, Moved to Bogota, and strongly considering Barcelona. When I learned I can have mountain and sea views in Barcelonas countryside. I was hooked!
The reason I watched this video is because I want to go visit Spain. It’s been my dream since forever! I still haven’t gone I don’t have a partner to join me..😢 but from this video I would like to go to both I wonder how long the trip is by train to Valencia from Barcelona.? Idk but I have to continue my research. Thank you for the information ❤👍🏽😎
Hey there Antoanetta - Lived in NYC, lived in LA, also London, and I get it why you are there! Thinking of leaving my position/job here in US and renting in Valencia or Alicante. I’m curious as to your thoughts on Alicante… seems like a little sister to Valencia. What Valencia is to Barcelona, Alicante is to Valencia. Less expensive, less interesting restaurants, but still a great lifestyle. But may be a little too small for an ex-LA, ex-NY person….Thoughts? Also - can u recommend best way to stay over 90 days for this non-EU passport gringo? Thanks! Larry
ps - really enjoy your vids and can relate since you lived in LA (where in LA?). Isn’t there an option you ‘buy you a coffee or beer’ to support your site?
Hello Larry, thanks for watching 😊 Yes many reasons to be here one of which is improving my quality of life! For non EU residents best would be non lucrative visa. Alicante is nice but a little smaller for me. Will do a video about it soon!
I love your videos and the passion you show for my home town! I am original from Valencia and have been an expat myself living in the UK, NL, France, México and Cataluña. I work in the tech industry and it's true what you said about work in Barcelona. However, having lived there for 7 years ( in different periods), I have seen and experienced that nationalistic nasty thing that has been growing over the years, damaging and corrupting everything. Maybe if you are a foreigner it does not bother you so much, but being spanish and not sharing or agreeing on that nationalistic fight against Spain makes it really hard to be able to settle there. It is a beautiful city but not a place where you would feel welcome as a spaniard, and even worse if you are original from Valencia with Madrid ancestors. ( they want to take over Valencia as part of their "catalan empire" and are always fighting against Madrid).
We live just outside of Ganda but love to visit Valencia. In fact we will be up there Wednesday to drop some clothes off with a friend who has a vintage clothing shop (Trinity Vintage) and then we will have lunch. Barcelona seems a bit large to me. Nice place to visit but I don't think I'd want to live there.
¡Hola Antoanetta! I’m visiting Spain for the first time ever with my family later this year and we will be going to Madrid, Barcelona, and then Valencia. Do you have any recommendations on where we should go or what we should do in Valencia during our time there?
Hello new friend..I love your videos...Could u add dates...it is hard for me to tell pre or post with the pandemic issues..1 month or two months ago could be anything. Thanks..
I’ve lived in Barcelona for a month and to be honest I didn’t enjoy it that much. I’m actually planning on moving to Valencia soon and your video strengthens my opinion even more, it seems like the perfect place to be. Thank you! :)
Barcelona it’s great for people that are focus on professional life if that’s your thing go there otherwise Valencia it’s an amazing opportunity to chill work and have a peaceful life
I agree with you 100%. Barcelona is not only a real city but a cosmopolitan city, unique in its own right. And if you add all the connectivity it has with other major European cities uff for me it’s unbeatable in Spain. The border with France is just two hours by car. I mean, when it comes to Cosmopolitan cities in Europe, Barcelona in my books is very well ranked. PS: I’m not Catalonian nor Spaniard but an expat living in Barcelona for over 5 years.

What do you think about Marbellla?
I have 2 videos on Marbella make sure you watch them 😊
I’m considering Valencia and Lisbon.
How about the beaches? Can you compare them for us?
Antoanetta I’ll be visiting Valencia next month and wanted to ask if there any restrictions for some of the sites or restaurants as far QR requirements and also I know that Valencia is home to the best Paella so any recommendations on restaurants. Thanks.
No restrictions !!!
Ok Great, Thanks
@@ANTOANETTA appears that a lot of Restaurants close on Mondays ?
Love the comparative videos. Very interesting. I've been to Barcelona.
Antoanetta, Valencia seems ideal. Big question, if you go to a place daily for your meals (like a diner or something) is a TIP required as it is in the US?
Tip is not required but we leave tip couple euros …depending on price etc but it’s not like in the US.
Thank you for the Video 👏
I’m looking to move somewhere in Mainland Spain Or the Canaries this September, from Birmingham UK. I’m unsure where to focus on.
Do you have any thoughts on Canaries Vs Mainland Spain? Your top 5 places to move to?
I’m currently exploring the best ways to get into Spain and stay there, with the different visa options etc…
Look forward to your wisdom.
Gary
Barcelona of course has more to offer but Valencia has more than enough things for 99% of people. On top of that Valencia has better weather (warmer, sunnier, with less rain) and it is way cheaper than Barcelona regarding apartments.
exactly my point
Summer is way to warm in both cities though.
If it helps, the Spanish pronounce their Vs as Bs, so many people would call it "Balencia" 😛
@@haroonzia2214 Bálaga.. Just kidding 😅
Great video! You should compare against Madrid next!!
Thank you! I have a video Valencia vs MADRID 😊 check it out!
when are you going to Alicante!.......love your videos, but please go to Alicante
Will do 👍🏼
I’m not sure yet, but Valencia is on my list to go visit.
@@larrydingee1479 thank you for asking. I have a PATREON page, if you go there you can find me by my name antoanettanow 🙏🏻😎☀️ thank you
@@ANTOANETTA Great - thanks for the reply and information. Just curious, in what part of LA did you live? I was in Los Feliz.
We're moving to Torrevieja next month and can not wait to explore all of Spain...
I'd bet you there's foreign money on that division. They want a weak Spain (easier to control).
Everyone loves their city.
Honest assessment...nicely done
Thanks..
Barcelona as a tourist. Valencia to live in.
I’ve lived in Barcelona for a month and to be honest I didn’t enjoy it that much. I’m actually planning on moving to Valencia soon and your video strengthens my opinion even more, it seems like the perfect place to be. Thank you! :)
Awesome 😎
Do they speak more catelan there or spanish
Both of them, with naturality
What's your first language?
Barcelona it’s great for people that are focus on professional life if that’s your thing go there otherwise Valencia it’s an amazing opportunity to chill work and have a peaceful life
Valencia!!!
In which province is Valencia?
@@joan9248 Next to Andalusia?
@@joan9248 Gracias I must go there ojala.
Just came back from a Europe trip,
Feels like everyone smoke all day, sucks
You don't speak Spanish?? Italian?
Barcelona forever....!!!
Valencia sounds amazing except for the lack of authentic international cuisine
I visited Barcelona a few times, didn’t like the people there. Madrid and south of Spain is much nicer imo.
Valencia sin duda alguna
Thanks I like Valencia obviously but Barcelona is great too!
I thought maybe u don’t speak Catalan but how is possible to live somewhere and don’t speak then language 🤦🏼♂️😆
🤫
In Valencia you can speak spanish, english, valencian, ..., no problem for the people. Catalan is spoken in Catalunya.

@@ANTOANETTA I don't live in Barcelona
Valencia sounds more welconing
Valencia obviously
I agree with you 100%. Barcelona is not only a real city but a cosmopolitan city, unique in its own right. And if you add all the connectivity it has with other major European cities uff for me it’s unbeatable in Spain. The border with France is just two hours by car. I mean, when it comes to Cosmopolitan cities in Europe, Barcelona in my books is very well ranked. PS: I’m not Catalonian nor Spaniard but an expat living in Barcelona for over 5 years.
VALENCIA The BEST!
Your beautiful (as its owner), accent, is not from The States. Where are you originally from?. Should be nice you were Spanish. Try it!
Also barcelona stinks like sewer and pi, everywhere
Madrid
MADRID.
valencia or malaga?
