Loving the X100vi, picked up one online last week while casually browsing (John Lewis in UK), to my surprise they had them in stock to buy, as soon as I ordered they were out of stock. Nice video, have subscribed 👍
Great video and you're absolutely right. I have pre-ordered as well and sadly haven't received my X100VI as well. I'm still enjoying my cameras I have and am excited for the VI
I was lucky enough with my pre order and received my x100VI almost a month ago now. I upgrade from the x100F since I could never buy/ find a x100V to buy. My gosh it's night and day with how amazing the VI is compared to the F. The F was a struggle to use, but got amazing photos when I was able to lock focus. The IV is such a pleasure to use and so easy to take great photos with.
I must of got lucky with my preorder. I ordered two days later (the 22nd of Feb) and received mine right on Feb. 28th. I ordered black. I also have the V in silver. The camera is just about perfect!
I just snagged an x100f and it has been an absolutely joy for family and life documentation. It’s just been so fun! Single autofocus is good enough. I would say same as when I had an xt2. You really can’t go wrong from the f to the vi. For paid work, I have different cameras but for life moments - grab an x100!
I still have the X100F and as I just published on line it is more than enough… ! May be I will go for the X100V when all the people out there will receive their x100VI 😊
Add insult to injury, scalpers are selling their orders for around $2,000 USD and above, then Fujifilm releases their Limited Edition for purchase at $2,000 so people are trying to get that camera just to get one of these. Then today, the site freezes due to demand, and after the drama, 7 to 11 X100VI "Verified Preorders" get listed on eBay for anywhere from $3,500 to $8,000. This is the most wild camera release I have ever been around to experience.
I got lucky with Fuji running a lucky draw in HK and got the limited edition today today at the retail price which I picked up at the store today. I have the 100V as well so wondering which one to sell
Thanks for the honest review of the IBIS effectiveness. I've seen one solid stop of improvement, two stops only if I use great technique. For consistent results, I can go down to 1/30 sec. with the VI versus 1/60 sec. with the V. Of course slower shutter speeds are possible, but not consistently. The reviewers getting more than two stops of improvement either have arms made of solid rock or they're picking one shot out of five or more to get one sharp one. (To illustrate the point, look at the average smoothness of handheld video with the VI. It's better than no IBIS, but it's nowhere near something like the S5IIX, R5, etc.)
A concern for me would be the big files of the 40mp sensor. Probably more than I need - is there a way to reduce the file jpg size out of camera? Thanks for the video Benj 👍🏻
I believe the difference between “Fine” and “Normal” will reduce the size of the JPEG. Using the HEIF option will also reduce the size even more while actually giving a higher quality image [but has less compatibility.
Go Yankees! I went to a spring training game last week in Tampa to catch the New York Yankees and I took a lot of great pics with my X100VI. I enjoyed the crop/zoom feature which still gave me great 20mp and 10mp shots. I was never able to get an x100v but did manage to get an x-e4 and x-pro3 and your auto focus squares vs 1 square was spot on. I pre-ordered from BestBuy at 1:03 am the night of the launch and received it March 2nd. Although it is frustrating, being on a preorder list is better than continuously looking for two years. Stay strong!
I bought an X100s brand new in 2013. Was gifted an X100VI and the jump is absolutely massive. Not even the same camera honestly. Now Going from an V to a VI doesn’t seem worth the cost.
Benj...Liverpool Kev here...Thank you so much for such a useful and considered review...I own the X100V alongside micro 4/3rds cameras bodies and lenses and found your thoughts so useful and think on reflection particularly financially to hold on to the V...By the way...Here in the UK your 'Baseball'...is called Rounders and played by little schoolgirls in frilly panties Haha......Love your videos and big thanks for helping us with your genuine experience....All the best from across the pond..........Liverpool Kev
I have had my VI on order since May 2024 Dec 24 I purchased a GR III HDF and January 25 my order came through so after taxes and accessories $3000 on Everyday carry cameras.
It is still a great camera, but the 6 year old sensor is starting to show its age a bit. For certain types of shots, especially in lower light / indoors, it's inferior to what you can get out of an iPhone 14/15 Pro, saying that, it's still f/3 FF equivalent whereas the iPhone is ~f/6.3 or so.
@@DigiDriftZone Could you elaborate what kind of shots are inferior on the X100V to an iPhone? Extreme low light handheld? Because I have a Pixel 7 Pro and an X-T30 which has the same sensor as the X100V. The Pixel has very similar camera performance to the iPhones. I don't see that unless it is absolute pitch darkness and you cannot handhold the camera at 12800 ISO. And that is after using RAWs which provide much better results on a phone. I'd love to know what situations your X100V struggles compared to your iPhone because my experience hasn't been that at all. The gulf is massive. And Sony actually uses that same sensor in the A6700, and bigger wafers of it make up those famed 60MP full frame and 102MP Medium Format chips
@@_shreyash_anand Well, the reasons the X100V in general is not for me are: 35mm f/3 FF equivalent so no selfies or landscape or wildlife, limited background separation for talking head, etc etc. With a lower dynamic range than an iPhone 15Pro (tested by CINED), poor-ish low light performance, no flip screen, poor battery life, not great for videography, low resolution hybrid evf, noisy images at higher ISOs, etc, etc. It is a very pretty camera though :) Specifically vs a phone, an iPhone 15 Pro shooting ProRaw captures 14 stops (vs like 11.5) and it has much lower rolling shutter. It also captures at 48 megapixels vs 26 (though I'm less worried about number of pixels). So other than being restricted by the focal length (which is a huge restriction, I prefer wider shots), the iPhone also has IBIS which the X100V does not. So you get a superior modern sensor that captures more dynamic range, can shoot at lower shutter speeds and produces less noisy images at higher ISOs (low light sensor performance hasn't improved at all in the new X100VI either, but it's nice it finally has IBIS). The A6700 is also not a great camera in challenging light conditions either, APS-C cameras in 2024 just do not differentiate themselves enough from flagship phones anymore, in my opinion. The iPhone 15Pro lens is the equivalent of around 16mm f/4 on APS-C and the superior sensor, dynamic range and resolution mean that in some cases the phone will take much better pictures and in others it comes damn close, so why bring both? - even cropping to 23mm if that's your focal length of choice, you still have more resolution than the X100V left over. I've recently sold all my Fuji gear and moved up to Sony full frame, now there, you have a much larger gap and the phone has no advantages in any situation (other than portability).
@@DigiDriftZone I have an 15 Pro and no picture on it looks as good as from my X100V… bigger sensor always looks better, phones have to post process so much to look good.
@@SideshowBob44 For one the pictures that are a wider focal length do potentially as you just can't take those, or the ultra wide and tele. But also try shooting in raw (on both systems really!) :)
I’ve had a hard time getting rid of my X-T3/X100V. I’m more interested in a 12mp A7SIII than I am a 40mp Fuji. Only the X-H2S keeps the 26mp but upgrades other features. May get one for video, but as dated as the T3/V are, they’re like last generation vehicles for me, just familiar and simple and great :)
In the video you show going from film sim to one of your presets. Does that mean you were throwing your preset over a baked jpeg? Or just showing raw with film sim vs your cascade?
Great comparison - it’s good to finally find someone that mentioned the kelvin difference l, I noticed this also when shooting the same scene with the same settings. The vi leaned more the warmer side & greenish tint Did you also notice on the vi the calibration of the lcd screen seems to be off? Again it leans more towards green. I even tried putting a photo taken on the v onto the sd card that was in the vi, and when you view the exact same image (both take on the v) on both camera lcd side by side it looks different on each screen. I changed the colour calibration to +2 blue on the vi and it is a much closer match (maybe my the screen just wasn’t properly calibrated at the factory? Finally, do you notice a bit of a lag when you turn the vi on (just for afew seconds). Perhaps it’s just the ibis kicking in - it doesn’t seem to happen on the v

It’s disappointing genuine photographers could miss out on getting an X100VI simply because a lot of the available stock is being bought by people just reselling it for well over the original price 😡.
I have the model V and you can see right through the hood in that corner because of the cut out, otherwise it doesn’t take over much especially if you use the mini display in the optical viewfinder
Very nice video! Though I would like your opinion for the fujifilm optics (sharpness etc) and the difference of sensor between the two cameras (night shots). Thank you beforehand!
Maybe this is surveillance bias, but my VI seems less well constructed than the V (in particular the viewfinder selector “switch”). And the shutter release is a huge depression to get halfway. Definitely will take some getting used to
My main camera is the x pro3 with duratect coating. I had the xt30, x100f, xe4 and now the x100vi. The xe4 felt a bit like a toy, similiar to the x100f. Not cheap, but not as good and well built as the x pro3. You gotta remember that x pro3 has a beautiful Titantium top and bottom plate and the Duratect coating is really nice, so pretty much any other camera feels cheaper.
