  • In our newest episode, I indulge my burgeoning fascination with the decorative arts by speaking with silver scholar extraordinaire Ben Miller. As the Director of Research at S.J. Shrubsole, one of the world’s preeminent antique dealers specializing in British and American silver, Ben spends his days sleuthing for the stories of rare silver treasures. We had the pleasure of visiting Ben in Shrubsole’s Upper East Side showroom to learn about some of the hidden histories he’s uncovered so far. Visit the link in bio for the full video, now on TH-cam.
To hear more from Ben, tune into his podcast, Curious Objects, published by Antiques Magazine. Each episode considers a dimension of the fine and decorative arts through interviews with leading scholars and collectors, spotlighting the trends, traditions, and treasures that define art history.

This was such a blast, thanks for chatting with me about silver! Quick fact check on myself...the crest on that mazarine is a wyvern, not a dragon. Subtle difference but I don't want those old Englishmen turning in their graves.

Cool video. Love functional work like silver. Do you know much about ceramics? Art history on ceramics really lacks on youtube. Would be fun to see on your channel

precious metals have always been a hedge against inflation, coins used to be made out of gold or silver but when the spot price of silver or gold surpassed the face value of the coin they had to make them out of a cheaper material, its sort of ironic and this example proves that gold especially is the real money.

please come visit the Worcester Art Museum (WAM) in Worcester, MA! I mean, I'm just a janitor there, I don't have the authority to invite anyone officially. but I would love you to see our "modest" collection. if there is such a thing as a modest collection. I'll pay you and your crew the admission fee. or I'll let the marketing guys know about The Art Tourist.
    Grazie!
