      For about 4 years I had a head with no cab - I’d just plug my headphones into the amp. Most expensive headphone amp in the world… although this was nearly 20 years ago.

    • @andreil1234
      @andreil1234 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@boggeshzahim3713 any amp, tube or digital, will have to get to a certain loudness before it moves bigger speakers in a pleasant way - which will be too much for many especially at night. and many/most of the small amps don't really have good headphone outs. and those that do have good headphone outs aren't as portable as this kind of thing. not to the extent of casually walking around the house with just headphones connected to this and a guitar strapped around your back.
      some of the pitfalls of somewhat similar stuff is that they're either bad sounding (amplugs), overloaded with distracting and halfbaked features (nux, harley benton) while lacking fundamental quality or overly expensive and somewhat restrictive (waza air headphones).
      -> i did love the line6 pod express but it had finnicky battery compartment and ofc no bluetooth so you had to also be wired to the audio source, which takes away from its portability (I used to clip it on the guitar strap and connect it via a small guitar cable). were you to play over anything, even with the phone/mp3 player in your pocket you still had to clip it to the strap and use 3 different cables to connect it to the guitar, headphones and aux source. mutang micro basically does it all in a much smaller footprint and is recheargeable. still sounds very good fed into bigger stuff as well, like car audio aux in among other things.
      i think this one really hits the right balance. it's very good quality at core, doesn't distract with endless tweaking features or apps and can be even be used to record some other stuff (think electric violin or keyboards) or simply plug it to their headphone/line out to add maybe a tutorial source via its BT.
      What I like especially is that it's so powerful to drive headphones that you don't really have to turn up the volume on it too far even on higher impedance ones, which makes the battery last a lot more. Love it as an audio bt headphone amp for music too. It's a fun and useful device for sure. Glad I bought it.

  • @Mike28625
    @Mike28625 2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

    Pro tip; The volume on the mustang acts as a master volume and it uses the guitar volume as gain control. Great gain sweep in many of the voices to varying degrees. Between the knob and the different choices lies the entire spectrum of distortion. pristine clean, to super fuzzy velcro. And everything in between. The bassbreaker and fbe in particular, have a semi-clean sweet spot that sound amazing.

Also, it’s kind of cool for you to show up in the cabin with just your guitar case and your wife asks you, “Where’s your amp?” Then you say, “Right here.” I love it. It’s my favorite device.

I work nights and it's a life changer. I just bought a fender bassman 100t tube amp. Which isn't practical for practicing in the middle of the night..and I play everyday, and just having the built drum machine is awesome. I've played 30+ years and wish I had one a long time ago.

    Fantastic piece of kit - took it and my bass round to jam with my drummer friend last weekend. Simply plugged it into the V-Drums module with a 3.5mm jack and output via the drum monitor. So much easier than lugging a big amp around!
    Also perfect for practice when the rest of the house trying to sleep.

    I swear if I had one of these in college it would have allowed me to practice 100s of days more. All I had was an amp and it wouldn't allow me to practice and got me in trouble and kicked off the "quiet" floor. I imagine this would allow a player to improve more quickly because of the capability of playing without being heard by others.

    I've done gigs where it's been feasible to use one amp setting for the whole gig, and just control everything from the guitar. I felt challenged at the time to see what was the smallest amount of gear I could turn up with that would still sound ok. My various Line 6 devices fell at early fences because they were a bit too fiddley to adjust at the gig. The lightest, simplest, set-up I achieved that had a sound I was happy with, was a Yamaha THR10 with the headphone out going to the PA, and I did a bunch of gigs like that. Can't wait to try a Mustang Micro through a PA!

      @WutipongWongsakuldej 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Well imagine this. You're in front of the room waiting for the next class, and just want to practice to kill time. Using laptop hooked up with interface will be super cumbersome. With this you can just plug your headphone in and start rocking.
      I was doing this with Korg Pandora back in the day. The sound is terrible, but at least I can do a few thing rather than just to listen to it acoustically (which won't do in the noisy environment).
      Also, I find that rather than using plugin, it's better to use a modeller (Neural Quad Cortex, Kemper, Helix, AxeFx whatever), plug into an interface with direct monitoring. That will give better user experience than using plug-in by a few miles or km....

  • @jonathonix
    @jonathonix 3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    Also, one thing that you didn't mention is that there is a very easy fix for guitars that don't have a lot of room for the plug- and that is a small extension chord adaptor. I use one on my wireless system and I built a little case that attaches to my guitar strap. I intend on doing the same with the Mustang Micro as well.

    This is fantastic! I play through amp sims most of the time anyway but I have to run the computer for that. So when the practice bug bites me I have to go to my desk and start the computer. With this little thing I can practice while sitting on the couch or even in an entirely different location without the hassle of needing a power source (which is the downside to a lot of the pedal-sized multiFX-units). Even if this thing goes low on the battery I can take a powerbank with me. And my daughter can use it, too. I will buy a Mustang Micro for sure! Thanks for the video!

      Someone: a joke
      Someone else: Americans suck
      Someone else: So does everyone else
      You: Yeah, but so do Americans
      These days if you hate some type of people who you think are different than you there is no end to the number of universally human issues you'll be willing to blame on them. Especially with the anonymity of the internet hiding your identity. Learn to recognize a joke, and whether you like the joke or not don't use it as an opportunity to show people that you hate others who although they are more like you that they are different, you only focus on what you dislike about them.

    To be honest, amazing product in terms of engineering. Incredible. You can fool me easily to make me believe that those sounds are coming from real speakers. Microcontroller race is amazing these days. STM32, ESP32, Teensy, Arduino... You name it. If you can imagine something, you can build it if you have the know-how. On the other hand, it is a proof that the major part of the cost of any product is enclosures, displays, knobs etc... all that non-essential stuff. Whoever worked on this product should be proud of themselves.

    Your comment about using it as a practice amp is basically what I recommend for beginners. There are a bunch of headphone amps in the $50-100 range which can be turned into mini amps by connecting them to a speaker with an AUX in, and they are going to be the same as or better than any beginner practice amp. I switched from a small practice amp I got for $25 to the Valeton Rushead Max (which you guys should consider reviewing!) I bought on sale for $40, and it sounded better than the small practice amp and I will be keeping it in the long run to use as a silent headphone amp and a mini travel amp when connected to a speaker. So it seems like a far better use of one's money to get one of these headphone amps that can be used for years for travel or silent practice, instead of a small beginner's amp that will quickly be gotten rid of for probably much less than the original price.

    The reason for no Bluetooth is simple. You can’t use Bluetooth for playing guitar into a headset. The protocol has too much delay. 34ms is peak bluetooth speeds and you cant play guitar with that. Waza Air Uses Bluetooth for playback from your phone, but the signal from the guitar to the headset is radio (probably 2,4ghz). Still looking like a great piece of kit.

    Okay, so they mentioned the intro jam was done by running the headphone-out to PA speakers (I assume with a 1/4" adapter). That opens up so many possibilities. This could essentially be an ultra low-budget Strymon Iridium or Walrus AcS1 killer
    I need to see someone test this with a pedalboard and hear if it takes pedals well. Hypothetically you could just snag yourself one of these and you've not only saved space on your pedalboard but also a plug on your power supply, and you've also got built-in reverb, plus some other effects, and even more preamp presets than other high-budget direct solutions

    Great comprehensive review. I was already curious about this "amp", but you totally sold me on it. Just got rid of my Line 6 Pod and I'm going to turn around and put the $ into this.
    This thing should basically be the go-to for new players learning. Incredible.
    Will this work plugged into an effects pedal, I wonder? Or is putting the guitar->pedal->mustang too funky of an order for the signal chain? Seems like it might work if you used that last pass-through setting on the Mustang.
    Shoot, the only way this could be better would be if it somehow had a tuner...I am betting version 2.0 has one.
