    This is hands down the best review I think I've seen of any product in a very long time. One of the things I did wonder about was the play of the extension rails when they were extended out, and of course the stop for the repeated cuts. The factthat there is so much play makes this a dealbreaker for me.
    Unbelievable how much of the roller and the support aren't being used. That's just crazy!

    WOW, I'm using this stand since 3 years and I'm unbelievable happy with it.
    Of course I balanced the even bigger LS1216L on the stand, I dismount the machine every time I transfer it, I preload the arms to have the workpiece leveled, ...
    I have many other (heavier) stands, but for me this is my favorite for mobile usage.
    Strange how different flavors can be.

    Great review. Totally agree about the end roller and top, they need to be adjustable sideways and not just up and down. I am not a carpenter by any means and I've got an LS1018L mounted. I agree about the wheels being too narrow as it really wants to rock when you're rolling it around. Finally, my stand doesn't lock the saw into place and often when I move it around the saw slides on the mount.

    Good review. I went for the metabo similar version. Funny i thought my wheels were too large and wide but I like them now I've seen your issues. Haven't dared to roll with the saw attached yet though. When set up the metabo has a bit away left and right which I don't like.

    Good in depth review .. thanks for posting....I was looking at this for my big Bosch mitre saw but it does look unstable on that narrow wheel track for transporting even on level ground !
    Just bought a cheapy evolution 210 so it will do for that I suppose ...

    Phil, thanks for the review. It was useful. A couple of comments if I may, to potentially help others trying to decide on which stand to go for currently.
    Makita are explicit in their videos that you should always remove the saw before collapsing the stand and wheeling it around. Clearly this is relevant to your comments about the stand being unstable with the saw on when being wheeled, and also on damage to the wheels, which are carrying more weight than intended when being wheeled by you.
    In addition, you explain that you have positioned the saw on the stand, based on balancing it for wheeling, by pulling it as far forward as possible. I would suggest that this is potentially having an adverse effect in respect of the supports on the arms, i.e. the roller and stop end. Which you complain about being largely superfluous, as only part of their length is being utilised. Clearly if you were to pull the saw back on the stand then more of these supports would be used.
    Also, I wonder if Makita may possibly have designed these on the premise of the majority of people being right handed and thus feeding material from the right? I may be completely wrong in this though, as I am right handed, but I would feed from the left. It may be a factor, but suspect the biggest issue is how you have positioned the saw. It's a shame that Makita haven't made the arm tops adjustable so that you can slide to achieve maximum support depending on make/position of saw.
    Since your review, Makita have redesigned the clamps for fitting the saw to the stand and these are now quick release clamps. This updated version of the stand is designated as product reference DEB WST06 (as opposed to the original version, which is now designated DEA WST06, note the A and B signifying the old/new model). If buying a new Makita saw and stand together get them both to be compatible with the new clamp arrangement, if buying a stand to go with a Makita saw you already have then check compatability with Makita - they are really helpful!
    I thought it worth clarifying these points, and hopefully people will find these comments of use and helpful. Regards R.

    Another great review and I'm so glad to have watched this as I won't buy one now! I was looking at the package deals to but I guess I'll need to find something different. Is it possible this stand isn't actually made specifically by or for Makita? I know with other Makita accessories they are identical to cheaper brands and just painted in makita blue and sold at the twice the price! I currently have an evolution stand but it's quite low and has no wheels so you just can't pick that and a saw up together. That said it is very sturdy. Maybe I'll take a trip to Axminster and see them all laid out side by side first. Keep the honest reviews coming. Really helpful 👍

    I notice your saw release levers are located on either side of your saw Phil. Did you modify them to do this?, because when I got my stand(same one btw) the right hand lever locates under the saw for some reason🤔.

    I got the Hercules mitre saw stand for my Makita 10" cordless 06pt saw and it's a well built tough mitre saw stand with big wheels that are spaced wide for good stability. I have folded it up and wheeled it around with it and it works very good. That Makita stand is cheesy as hell. No way I would put my saw on that piece of crap! Plenty of complaints about the plastic support outfeeds breaking online at Home Depot and Amazon. Good review!

    I like the stand - bought it as a package with the Makita saw. However it only took a few days before I broke one of the black plastic clips on the bar that holds the saw to the stand, while trying to remove the saw. As per Phils one, one clip is on the front left, the other is on the back right. I don't even know why they are needed, since it appears that the handle on each side 'locks' the bars into place anyway - I guess once I put it back together I'll figure out if the black plastic clip is necessary.

    Biggest pain is wrestling the saw off the stand. I’m sure there’s a knack, lifting right hand side while turning counter clockwise is apparently the way as that then releases the left side. The instructions do sort of show in pictures but it’s a long way from clear.

  • @RaymondToms
    @RaymondToms 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Good review with a lot of detail. You mention the inadequacy of the wheels many times. Your are using a very heavy saw, and the Makita manual distinctly says to remove the saw before moving the stand. In that case, the wheels are probably sturdy enough.

    I bought the LS1219 and the same stand as part of a package deal this summer. I love the saw but am not happy with the stand for the same reasons you have mentioned. In addition, Makita shipped mine with two Left-Hand locking brackets instead of the mirrored left and right as shown in the documentation and seen in your video. I contacted the support people and was told that they do not have the mirrored set and now I have to reach under the saw to lock and unlock it from the stand.
    For the first time in 30 years, I am disappointed in my Makita purchase.

    If the supports' useful surface is too far back, could you not just turn the saw around on the stand? Assuming that you can achieve the same centering balance that is.

    Great review. For storage, can the saw be kept on the stand while the stand is folded and perhaps leaned against a garage wall? I’m not sure if the saw can hang off the side of the stand like this?

    • @PhilEdwardsCarpenter
      @PhilEdwardsCarpenter  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really great comment thank you. Folding the legs and keeping the saw attached is difficult, maybe with a lightweight saw you can lie it down horizontally but with my mammoth saw it becomes top heavy and will roll over with a slight gust. As for storing vertically with the saw attached, this won't work because of how light the stand is compared to any weight mounted on its brackets, the heaviest component will always want the floor.

    • @robwolfbrandt7741
      @robwolfbrandt7741 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the quick reply. I’m assembling my stand right now, actually. The black “claws” that hook over the stand track - should they both be on the front side? One of mine is ending up on front and one in back which seems wrong to me, as I can’t imagine how I would be able to remove the saw.

    • @PhilEdwardsCarpenter
      @PhilEdwardsCarpenter  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@robwolfbrandt7741 keep both hand latches on the outside, one claw at front one claw at back so when is locked or unlocked both handles are diagonally facing away from each other

    • @robwolfbrandt7741
      @robwolfbrandt7741 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, thanks for confirming. I now see how you wiggle the saw off when the handles are in the unlocked position. I had to loosen the nuts on top my handles quite a bit to get enough clearance for the bits that sit inside the track to be able to turn to the locked position. Struck me as odd that I had to do that, but it seems to work fine now.

    This stand is better suited for smaller sized saws such as the Makita 8-1/2" sliding compound saw. It works perfect with mine. With that size saw of yours you would be better off with the Dewalt "heavy duty" DWX723. IMHO.

      I would say any saw is suitable on the stand, since this video the stand has had a few design changes but a big Saw like the 12" is best carried, rather than wheeled around on this model of stand.

  • @choppedchamp8757
    @choppedchamp8757 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have that stand and I agree the stock wheels are horrible. Yanked mine off and modded the stand by making a 1/2" solid axle that I put 10" pneumatic tires on mounted to the outside of the factory brackets. Now I can roll my saw over terrain if I need to set up outside on the job site. Glad I got my stand for free with a Makita promo as there's no way the stand is worth the regular price.

  • @realpatriot5896

    The Hercules stand has the black release handles for the legs it is not patented. The Hercules is better than the DeWalt stand as well. I researched stands everywhere and have not seen anything better built than the Hercules stand. The Bosch may be as good but I have not seen it in person so I don't know for sure. I did try my saw on a Delta gravity rise stand and the ass end was to heavy for that stand.

    Very good review, I also have this stand and he hit all my own concerns bang on. Wish I had seen this review before I got mine, it would have made me do some reserch before I spent the money, as at the time I didnt expect this shoddiness from Makita. That said its not all bad it dose the job, but needs lots of improvments that other brands have as standard.

    My roller is also not square to the table, but it’s due to the receiver not being welded square to the long horizontal arm, clearly a manufacturing defect. I contacted tech support, was redirected to a local store, who referred me to nearest repair center. Those conversations were disappointing, worst support calls I’ve made, leaving me to think I’m better of fixing it myself.

    Just so you know this stand was not made to be rolled with the saw still mounted on the stand,makita mentions this on several of their videos as well as in the instruction booklet.
    Your supposed to remove the saw the wheels are just to make moving the stand around easier.
    great video otherwise.

    • @duncanwp
      @duncanwp 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right - Makita are very clear that the saw should not be mounted on the stand while moving it around. Moving the stand with what looks to be a heavy saw is probably contributing to the wear on the wheels. I realise that Phil is a working professional carpenter and is moving the stand/saw as part of his business but it is not fair to critise the stand when it is being used outside it's intended use. Other than this I think it is an excellent video.

  • @mattekeller
    @mattekeller 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the dewalt stand with this saw and its okay but you can really tell this saw has a heavy ass as it sags a bit in the back. Also the material supports hardly line up with the fence. Its really upsetting though that things thing doesnt line up with the material supports on a stand that was made for it. I was thinking that wouldnt be a problem with a stand made by makita. Also its hardly 9 feet long. What rip off for $200. Luckily dewalt makes 12 inch material supports.. however the dewalt stand definitely cant be the best stand for this saw. I am thinking of buying the bosch stand. My friend has a festool kapex on the bosch stand and it seems to look supported well and is all lined up. Festool also makes a horrible saw stand. Someone really needs to figure this crap out.

  • @jerryhernandez5122

    The wheels kill it for me. Saw is too heavy for that narrow wheel base. And too expensive to risk roll overs. And for that matter I'll pass on this smaller one. Going for the more expensive one even if it's alot heavier. My investment into a 800+ saw warrants a solid cart. What's the point of having a stand if you can wheel it around?
