I'm really cautious in all my years of physically demanding jobs but I fell off the ramp the other day and sprained my mcl. Even letting the hand truck go it's sometimes to late. I should be back on route in a week or 2 but be safe out there food service!!!
Hey brother don’t ever hold onto the hand truck just let it go brother it’s not worth the injury at all & the time either. Sometimes damaged product is better than your health I’m sorry to hear about that hoping you feel better
went thru orientation at sysco last week. worked Friday as a helper, and the manager asked me to go out by myself in a straight truck on saturday. it kicked my ass. I would add that it's hard on your upper back, and you will need good grip strength.
Depends on how you lift and grab the product it will hurt some parts of your body. Really for the most part I usually tell people to go to the gym and train center parts of your body so you can get used to it....but I would definitely recommend a back brace because it really helps you back especially in the beginning since your not used to it yet.
I applied with McLane for the student driver in Southern California. I'm 56 with 30+ years of construction labor experience. I'm curious to know your thoughts . I think I'm physically and mentally up for the challenge with establishing myself with a dedicated route when the dust settles 👍🚛
I mean I've seen people your age really out here getting it doing this type of work. I would say that as a student driver you'll be paid hourly until your classified as a "regular" driver and then you'll be paid as component pay. But, I believe if that's something you would do go for it.
@@FoodServiceDriver can you briefly talk about the "extended board". Realistically, Am I looking at marathon hours for the duration until I move up with seniority. I'm ok with the irregular hours to fill last minute vacancy routes or as needed.
Hey I got a question I have a interview today and I have my cdl's but I haven't driven a tractor trailer in 2 years and I'm nervous on my backing any tips for me for my interview and for backing
I’ll just go into the interview & be completely honest with them and just sell yourself to them let them know what type of worker they’re about to get. As far as backing they will probably make you do a refresher course since it’s been so long & if not then I will take your sweet time my brother. Don’t rush nothing!!
Just started watching your videos. Great content friend! I’m seriously considering joining the food service game. I need to get my CDL. I plan on becoming a driver eventually. My plan is to have the company I join pay for my CDL and learn the ropes by getting hired as a helper. What is the average pay for driver helper?
Shoes - Slip Resistance such as Sketchers or New Balance (Best Comfortable Shoes) Boots - Slip Resistance & Oil Resistant such as Keens, Skechers, New Balance I would get both but make sure you get water resistance boots for the days when it rains but when it not raining I would definitely wear the shoes but I have both just in case.
@@CPM_frenchies hey brother do you still working in mclane from San Bernardino?I have my orientation on august 2nd..it is good how do yo recomend to work there I heard bad things about that company is right?

im working on my cdl now but i was offer helper job from mclane do u think its a good idea to be a helper till i get the hand of the routes and running the crates then start driving the truck
I would check to see if that’s the position where it trains you & help you get your CDL. If it is then I would definitely hop on it so you won’t have to pay it yourself. Being a helper is a good thing you definitely learn the way of a driver but the difference your not driving and it’s less responsibility you have to do as well. It would be a great learning experience but I would check to see about that other position

They send you to their own doctor for drug test & physical

How often do you have to start your next shift after just a 10hr reset?
It’s usually right after your 10 hour reset or more. Usually anywhere from 10 - 12 hours
