bad idea. My first day snowboarding, I took the chair straight up. no lesson. I ended up switching to skis the same hour at the rentals. Kept falling. Learn first, and it will be fun. It's very fun now after five seasons!

Just try it. Being a good surfer ia about paddling, knowing the waves and generating speed on them.
If you practice surfing you will develop those skills and the body changes that comes with then (more muscule in the back and the shoulders).
Just make sure to get the right board for your height, weight and skill level.

Surfers are always so happy and encouraging, well, depending on where you are. Respect the locals, always. But the snowboarders were all really good sports and just went for it and didn't make lame excuses or whine about it. When you're learning you gotta be patient and realize it's a process and nobody just mastered it on the first go.

Nah. Snow, water, concrete… skateboarding is the most difficult of the 3. It’s like riding a bar of soap, and you hit the flat earth when you fall; cold hard concrete.
I'm a pretty good surfer myself, I'm more of a web-surfer tho.

I love this series! Maybe in the future you guys could include the experts doing some showboating at the end? I think it's always fun to watch the experts getting to show what they can really do, and the reactions of the other athletes.

I really like this idea too. Maybe let them loose and have them show off their skills a bit? If the people learning are impressed by the basic skills they’re being taught, then they’re going to be really impressed when the experts go all out

You see a lot of bald or short haired surfers because long hairs are pretty annoying when you surf. It's just a stereotype

It's funny how when snowboarding he's all shy and humble, until he's the instructor here and he's all down to business, Sharp and on his game. Just shows you how much of our personalities is circumstantial.
I'm a skater and a snowboarder, surfing is fun, got on the first time but after the waves got bigger later in the day, many wipe outs
This is what makes surfing difficult than snowboarding.Water is unstable and unpredictable.While the pavement and snow are pretty stable except the powder but more forgiving though compared to water.Later of the day you will feel how the swell changes and became dangerous.In the slope,later of the day i go for Apre😂

Carrie's enthusiasm was so infectious. I could just see the little girl who never saw the ocean blossoming out there. Buckley has the cutest little gap between his teeth. I couldn't take my eyes off it. He was adorably eager. What can I say about Scotty? He was a mood and I loved it. They all looked so good for their first time. I'm sure I could not perform nearly so well.

Imo for the bare bones basics: surfing, snowboarding, skateboarding.
For surfing, most can catch a wave and ride it in on their first couple tries. I popped up and rode a wave into shore on my first try ever. I do feel like there's a steep learning curve once you want to try to carve, etc. I find it kinda hard to get into as I live in Alberta, Canada, and lessons only seem to be for outright beginners when I want to try renting a smaller board and catch some larger waves and learn basic turning on these waves. It looks so fun to carve and slash across the wave
Snowboarding is pretty difficult at first to not catch an edge going down the hill. When I first went snowboarding I fell every run my first few days. And that was at a tiny local hill, not an actual mountain.
I learned to skateboard really young, but I think it may be harder than snowboarding to get basic cruising down, just cause falling is much more brutal. Hard to say though, cause you also can't catch edges, so if your balance is pretty good you should try fall much. Could go either way for me, probably need someone who has learned both in fairly recent years. For learning tricks, I think skateboarding may have the highest learning curve. I had to put hours of boring, repetitive, stand still attempts in before I even learned to Ollie. And you generally have to put in a ton of that exact same method for every trick. For snowboarding you can learn stuff pretty easily, with some falling of course. For surfing, I expect it to be similar to snowboarding, but more difficult to pull off the manuevers
I'm in no way an expert on snowboarding or surfing, in fact I mainly do park skiing, but those are my thoughts on difficulty

Both the snowboarding and surfing team did a great job with explanation, patience and did amazing in staying professional towards both sports. I enjoyed very much both sides of the snowboards vs surfboards videos but I think what I enjoyed the most was the honesty of their expressions and the personalities of each individual both inside and outside the profession. Overall amazing videos.

Recently learned to kitesurf after windsurfing. I sailed for many years before picking up windsurfing, so found the transition pretty easy. Kite surfing was tough to learn, and can get unpleasant, crashing or body dragging to find your board. IMHO I think kite surfing is way harder and more painful to learn than windsurfing. Windsurfing can be learnt in much lighter wind with little consequence. There is a video around of pro wake boarders learning kitesurfing and they pick it up pretty easy, so previous skills obviously help out heaps. I also snowboard, but the feeling and stance is quite different to kiting.

In Hawaii you can do both. Had friends who would snowboard in the morning, then later on the same day go to the beach and surf.

As a surfer myself I can say they’re pretty good
my first time was at a wave pool with a wax covered 7 ft plastic board. picked it up in 10 min with a coach. It's all visualization. I was surprised I could stand up even past the peak of the wave if the timing was right

You need to add to the popup instruction: while your arms are still on the board, helping balance, to start sliding your leading knee up forwards first (laying it slightly sideways to fit), while the back leg remains fairly straight. You're not just jumping to your feet in one go.
This serie is really nice stuff! Never surf but watching this I rather snowboarding as the slope is longer and you will more fun.
