This is great I worked there at the end of 91, its great to see how things have changed around the airport and the surrounding city Thanks for posting it
Continental never had any 757s in the red meatball gold tail livery, there's a MD80 in this video in that livery but Continental never had any 757s painted into that livery all of Continental's 757s didn't arrive until after Continental adopted the blue tail globe livery
I remember flying here late 1990. Flew in and out on a Continental 727. It was the first time seeing the A-320. America West had maybe four brand new ones parked with no colors on them yet.
Airlines had more distinctive liveries back in the day, also way more aircraft type. Even seeing a Northwest 747 parked at the airport. Flying used to have so much more personality.
This is a fabulous video of plane spotting at Sky Harbor International Airport. It was neat seeing some of the military flights as well as the civilian ones. Do you have any more of these videos with more updated action from Sky Harbor airport? Just curious. Great job once again!
I miss the days of DC-10's, 727, MD-80's, 737-200's, 757's, 747-400 and KPHX. Now it is 737-500, 737-700, A-320, A-321 with the 767 in the AM with DHL and HA and RJ's all day ling. Also to think NWA, PSA and HP are now US, UA is CO, AA is in Chp 11 Was that a AA A-300 in the maintenance bay?
What Terminal were you at? I saw the North Concourse areas from Terminal 4 and a concourse from Terminal 3 and I believe I saw the Temporary concourse at 5:35. I was not there when Terminal 1 existed but I do know that T1 and T2 had an observation deck (I heard about it from people who was there at the time of Terminal 1, 2 and 3).
Wow, an Air BC BAe-146! I actually flew on one unintentionally, as it was subbed for a NWT Air Lockeed Electra I was deliberately trying to fly on. I was not happy. PHX still allows rooftop planewatching; no one hassles you. Too bad the aircraft today aren't as varied or interesting.
Those AA MD-88's were pretty when new. This was prior to terminal 4 opening when HP flew to HNL as well as Japan (Nagoya) on the 747-200's.sad we have lost most of these carriers. All the DL 727-200s were SLC based WA aircraft this was long enough after the merger to paint them all in DL colors. Canadian was created with a merger CP Canadian Pacific with Pacific Western, it was a excellent carrier based in Calgary. I miss them all TWA, NWO, HP, CO, and so ,any more
Good memories of being up in that observation area in the 70's - Hughes Airwest "yellow banana" planes and all. I tried planespotting in recent years from Cutter, but was quickly chased off.
The NW 747 often headed to Minneapolis St Paul. It’s crazy, but it appears we got the NW 747’s and DC-10’s very often. The craziest part, the first ever 747 built, went to Northwest Airlines, and it’s first flight was a MSP-PHX run!
@dukee155 The multitude of aircraft, airlines, less hassle to spot and photograph. Airplanes were noisier, smokier back then. They're just tin cans that all look alike today. Such a pity.
Chill out buddy it ain't that bad. The Engineering in Aviation today is world class with alot less incidents occuring & less polution! Loads of 727's here...
Spotting today is so incredibly bland and boring. Nothing but Scairbus', regional jets and 737NGs. Awful stale malaise compared to what I remember years ago.
What a shame that there were so many America West planes but you only saw them in the background aside from the one -200 take off. Such a beautiful livery. What a waste.
I miss those old jets to. But airlines took such a financial beating in those days. Now it's all in the name of efficiency. 2 high bypass engine 2 pilot boring ass quiet jets. But now the airlines are making a fortune.
All that video, and only ONE shot of an AmericaWest Airlines B-737-200 departing? Phoenix was their Home base. You couldn't take a couple more with say the -300 or a B-757-200 or even the Dash 8 coming and going. That's not a very sporting way to treat the Home Town Airline.
I had forgotten what a NEAT diversity of aircraft we used to have out here.
Yep!
I don't believe there is more magnificent and impressive sight than a 747 taking off and climbing out like this NW did. That was amazing!
Oh the sound of that DC-10 taking off ... such power and grace.
Northwest Airlines DC-10 I love it!
I enjoy watching these planes take-off and land in my hometown of Phoenix, AZ. It will prove useful for my stories.
Those 707’s are still there to this day in great condition, and that makes me very happy!
This is great I worked there at the end of 91, its great to see how things have changed around the airport and the surrounding city Thanks for posting it
great planes and many different paint schemes. Old Continental 757 gold tail looks good. NWA 400 and DC-10 loook so good.

This collection of shots is simply awesome! Brings back memories of smoke and noise!
I remember growing up here and having a whole bunch of planes fly over us great times and memories thx for these videos pall I enjoyed em

Variety of aircraft, colours, smoke and noise!!! Those were the days!!!
the phx skyline sure hasnt changed very much in these 25 years, has it?
It has in the past 5 years though.
Damn, what happened to all the widebody jets? Now we only get a handful (BA747s, Condor 767s, Hawaiian 767s and AA 330s)
Airlines had more distinctive liveries back in the day, also way more aircraft type. Even seeing a Northwest 747 parked at the airport. Flying used to have so much more personality.
Nice job - great memories of Sky Harbor.

we need more international airlines here at PHX
There isn't enough of a market, for all that many Int'l flights out of Phx
@@MrGlendale111 As such, we'll have to keep flying to LAX in order to get to Asia.

It’s even worse now
I think that was an a300, I don’t know of any other American planes painted instead of bare metal at the time
Miss boarding my TWA flights at Terminal 2. These were the good old days.
And now the terminal isn’t even there anymore. I went there on it’s final day. It was a beautiful terminal.
@@valley.spotter9558 now demoltion
Phoenix was the first major airport I visited in 1991, when I was 6. America West 737-200 from ICT-PHX.
Awesome to see some vintage action at kphx. thanks for sharing!
love this video, with lots of air stars of the 70s.
Shiniest DC-10 I ever saw!
Missed the American Airlines MD-80 at Phoenix. They replace by Airbus A321 or Boeing 737-800.
a320 and 737 800 are getting old they need to be replaced

Great videos Ryan ! You really knocked it out of the park this time !
so crazy seeing those old liveries and planes!!! cool video!
Miss them days and planes
At 5:35, does anyone else feel like that United 727 was just BARELY climbing?
No it was climbing pretty good
@Twifo 727s always had very long runs
Fully loaded 727 on a hot Phoenix day, that explains it all
What airline was the last plane? The short DC-9 I couldn't tell in the video?
A Mexican based carrier called Aero California.

I betcha that United Airlines 727-200 was on it's way to Stapleton International Airport in Denver ❤🧡💙🤍💯
Classic metal, raw music. Please don't wake me if I'm dreaming.
That is one sexy sounding KC-135
I miss this and I wasn’t even alive to see it!
Good memories of being up in that observation area in the 70's - Hughes Airwest "yellow banana" planes and all. I tried planespotting in recent years from Cutter, but was quickly chased off.
go on top of the T4 or T3 garages, much better viewing angles anyways.
Wonder where that NW 747 was headed? Doubt it was full.

So much better than what we have now. So much more character. I hate the monotonous 737 a320 duo. thats all you ever see.
It's like I'm in tri-jet heaven right now...
Dannnnnng Phoenix Arizona in the 90s yessir
The good o’l days.
Yasss... that chrome tail @ 8:20!
wow. the climb out performed by that NW 744... O_o
I remember when that Hughes Airwest hangar seemed to be almost in Mesa, now it's gone, replaced by another concourse.
nice video!!
@dukee155

Continental and American A300 in the DynAir Hangar?
@ferdinand31388 The first revenus 747-400 flight was from MSP-PHX
Do you know where the AA Dc 10 came from? I’d assume DFW but...
ORD maybe.
I was looking for a L1011.
I got to fly a TWA L-1011 from LAS to PHX back in the late eighties.
So much has changed in the last 30 years! It is so boring now!
NW 747 service from PHX to where?
MSP. They used to do that in the winters.
Alex Bellingham but he was asking PHX to where. ;)

I'm surprised how many 727s we had coming in and out of here at that time.
America west was at terminal 4 right?
yes
@Springbok295 I TOTALLY agree with you!
no regional jets back then😊
The casse 130 doesn't take off as often anymore
Great age in aviation.... wish i could have been part of it
Sad... All we ever see now at PHX is A320's and 737's. And the occasional FedEx MD-11 or UPS 767.
I live in the airport area, and I cam confirm, but in addition, regional jets LOL
excellent video like and sub
If only I grew up in this era of airplane diversity.
On the other hand, I would've also had to have grown up with smoking on jets.
Cool, but a lack of Southwest and looks at Concourse C.
i thought northwest had 747-200s lol but the 747-400 is really cool!
They had both.
What a shame that there were so many America West planes but you only saw them in the background aside from the one -200 take off. Such a beautiful livery. What a waste.
LONG LIVE MD-11
727's are deafening upon takeoff
Planes sure have gotten quieter since then. I remember when I was a small kid and airports were deafening back then. Now they're more tolerable
