Amazing video. I love these old school, throwback videos. Planes that are retired, airlines that ceased operation, old liveries to the airlines that still flies today. It a great way to honor them all back in those days. We don't realise that even 19 years ago, a lot has happened from newer planes, new airlines (even if it was short lived), and updated liveries. I enjoyed it all. Thank you.
I was eighteen years old, my mom and I got stuck in Los Angeles back in the summer of 2001 after we arrived from San Diego. We were supposed to fly to San Francisco because our flight was delayed. We rebooked our flight to Oakland for a visit.
You've obviously drank the un-informed Kool-Aid of and have lack of even a small iota of any knowledge of the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 series>>The DC-10 was NOT and is NOT a dangerous airplane--I built them, flew them and maintained them for many years---the DC-10 jumbo jet series airliner by McDonell Douglas was one of the best jumbo jets ever---and in 1978 after the horrible crash of the AA in Chicago--the DC-10 underwent one of the most in depth and detailed drill down studies EVER of an engineering review done by the FAA for MONTHS--and passed with flying colors. The cause of the crash was NOT the aircraft--in fact----it was a faulty maintenance procedure used by AA Maintenace crews to change the wing engines--(and others did the same thing BTW). Modifications were made and it NEVER happened again---45 years later!!>>> Most people like you, obviously do not understand the vastness of scope of engineering, manufacturing and tens of thousands of thousands of maintenance, inspection, overhaul procedures and human talent that it takes to make AND KEEP these type of engineering marvels flying EVERY DAY for so many millions of hours and MILLIONS of miles and for over the forty decades as they have been!!!!!. An airliner is NO WHERE NEAR the simple machine like a car, a boat, a train or an engine-----more like a like a space rocket, they are the most complex, detailed, phenomenal examples of as close to perfection as a machine can be---and because they ARE machines>>>yes things sometimes break and fail---but again--for you and others like you to call the DC-10 series jumbo jet airliner "dangerous" is not only unfounded, asinine, foolish--it as also unwarranted as well based on the millions and MILLIONS of safe and accident free miles and hours flown by the "Big Ten" since 1970--and still flying around the world today and into the future>> 'Nuf said>>
Great airport, really busier times. I could sit here and watch the traffic for hours. And a lot of big birds in those days! B747s, B767s, B757s, DC-10s, MD-11s ... massive ships, and the pilots just "kiss" the ground as they land. Amazing! Thanks for these posts, and please keep 'em coming!
Airbus, especially A220 and A320 are the way of the future. Especially as Boeing continues to stumble around, and equip even brand new clean sheet aircraft with old and tired designs that harken back to a byegone era of aviation instead of looking at the future.
@@outcast1177 9/11 shook the aviation industry, some were angry it happened, many more were terrified of flying. The smaller airlines that didn’t have the finances to backup their losses went bankrupt, and either sold of their aircraft/scrapped them, or merged/bought by larger airlines, unfortunately, most airlines want their aircraft to have their designs on them to draw in more passengers, so most smaller airlines simply vanished. Same thing with the aircraft, airlines struggled to keep the more unreliable/inefficient aircraft due to the extremely thin profit margins, so some of them were scrapped. Not long after, there was a recession, and people stopped flying, then fuel prices spiked and any aircraft that couldn’t operate efficiently was either running at a loss or extremely close, which wasn’t worth it, so we ended up with 737s, 777s, a321s etc, the ‘bland’ simple aircraft.
The planes in this video become rarer and rarer...especially with COVID 19, airlines are retiring their 747s, 757s, Md-80 series aircraft, and 767s. Soon it’s just going to be A320/21s, 737s. No more dolphin nosed 757s or elegant 767s or T-tail MD-80s

Gerard Lang Nearly all gone now, apart from a few cargo operators. also many classic 747-100/ -200 / -300 series, which have since disappeared from the skies, with just a few -200s and SP’s about. Soon to be followed by the -400, as KLM and Qantas retired theirs this week. I was fortunate enough fly twice on a Qantas 747 many years back.
@@Goldenrod01 it was a colorful time. The days before mega mergers and the obsession for twin jets, but you're right. Now, even the A380 is starting to phase out.
Am I crazy or are these all smoother landings than the vast majority of footage you see today? They all look SOO smooth. Was there some sort of global operating procedure change that would have led to ultra smooth landings no longer being a priority? Even the MD-11's are buttering those touchdowns and I wonder what the reason is. Maybe I'm just crazy and I'm seeing things, or it's a trick of the old camera.

Even in the year 2016 there are many different beautiful aircraft to see, but the nostalgia in the 1990s to an aviation lover like myself just cannot be beaten! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I flew on a 747-400 Korean air as a child. I remember being scared the floor would fall out. How far I have come since then...
It's amazing to see all the 747's l-1011's, dc-10 and md-11's, 767's, and md-80's.
Now all you see are 737's and a320'd with the ocasinal DHC-800.
Thank you for sharing.
So many forgotten airlines, and the last era seeing the dangerous DC10's
Modifications were made and it NEVER happened again---45 years later!!>>>
Most people like you, obviously do not understand the vastness of scope of engineering, manufacturing and tens of thousands of thousands of maintenance, inspection, overhaul procedures and human talent that it takes to make AND KEEP these type of engineering marvels flying EVERY DAY for so many millions of hours and MILLIONS of miles and for over the forty decades as they have been!!!!!.

It's incredible that the 777 -200, is 20 years old already.
To me it's still the new kid on the block. 😎
My goodness the variety of airline and aircraft is just amazing, compared to now
Delta L1011 is just always a perfect sight.
Especially in the real Delta livery. The black mask and widget livery.
@@DrSeuss-nv9hw totally agreed!
Love what appears to be filming from a rooftop or observation deck. That's the best angle to get all of the action.
Whooaaaahhh... Good Old Days. Thank you so much for uploading this.
Any planespotting where an L-1011 shows up gets my thumbs up. That was a sexy airplane
I just realized there were barely any Airbus aircraft in the US back then
Timothy D the good days
Airbus, especially A220 and A320 are the way of the future. Especially as Boeing continues to stumble around, and equip even brand new clean sheet aircraft with old and tired designs that harken back to a byegone era of aviation instead of looking at the future.
@@soravulpis96Boeing still leads airbus in sales so no
Very nostalgic. Quite heartbreaking watching all those airlines no longer flying.
Why aren't they
outcast A lot of airlines went bust after 9/11 and a lot of them merged as well.
@@TheEilypily went bust?
@@TheEilypily speaking of 9/11, at 55:45 that’s N591UA. Aka United 93.
I Love this Video and I miss 2000~2001

Outstanding!
AMAZING how much better the variety was 20 yrs ago.
Truly, it's such a pity.
this was 1000% the golden age of aviation. MD-80s, MD-11 737-200. Such a variety of gorgeous aircrafts, not just the same old 737 and a320s
I love the dolphin nosed 757s, truly beautiful aircraft and the "hot rod" or "muscle car" of the skies.
None of what you said is true
Or three engined planes
Like I've said unfortunately....at the end, Airbus wins!
Even some airlines got bankrupt by COVID-19. I also heard that Boeing might be retiring. :(
8:41 Wow a Frontier 737. They don’t have those any more.
@@LanesAviationYT yep
Credit to China Airlines 10:00 - the livery they introduced all the way back in 1995 has stood the test of time and still looks pretty modern today. Not so for many other 90s/00s designs 🙂🌸
back in the days when there were fewer a320s and 737s compared to this days
4 Engine Aircraft Are Very Rare Now Days now its all 2 engine aircraft im happy the B767 and 757 survived Though.

Love how many tri-jets there
Jaden Hao Ern yeah I think I saw a few Lockheed 1011
🇬🇧🙋🏾♀️Wow 🤯what a variety of beautiful liveries.
The chrome looking finish on the AA has never been beaten as a livery imo 👌🏾💜❤️💜
As someone who has always been fascinated with planes since I was a kid, watching this was like looking into another world. Seeing the 747s and Tri-Jets so commonplace is so weird to see.
Fun fact: the 747-400 displayed at the Delta Flight Museum (N611US) is the first -400 variant to enter service and the same aircraft that was involved in the Northwest Airlines flight 85 incident
My mom flew on that plane. It was N661US not N611US
4:52 American Airlines 767 in 2001…. Reminds me of something
Reminder set, do you by chance have Heathrow from years back ? Love to see the 757's L1011's or even further back with Tridents and Viscounts and Vanguards with a sprinkle of VC10's 😊
Beautiful, varied liveries.

I think that we can say that McDonnell Douglas has quite disappeared from airlines nowadays. The only exception seem to be cargo flights.
Actually, Delta Airlines still has some MD-88s and MD-90s for the time being.

At 24:25 That Boeing 737-7H4 registration # N760SW is still in service according to Flightradar24
27:21 Fun to watch. I was a copilot with ATA on the 757 in 2001, and did a lot of those flights in and out of LAX. Recognized good ol' N516AT.
That Lufthansa livery looks so timeless
Man look at all of those classic airplanes and liveries.
It brings back nostalgia seeing Boeing 747s. We will soon no longer see production of 747s and A380s as passenger carriers.
Thank you for sharing this rare and amazing footage just 2 months before the world changed.
Ah 2001! Days of Tri-Jets and diverse airplane liveries

Those MD-11’s put a smile on my face
Wow.... This is wonderful.
Our aviation industry situation is getting worse due to this pandemic.
Everyone stay home and be safe. 😭😢😷
Those MD-11's are great
This is so amazing and strange! I can't believe plane spotting was a thing in 2001, and reverse thrust existed back then. Thanks for sharing.
Yes but after 9/11 LAX Airport close down the plane spotting spots. Airports in the USA banned plane spotting.
not true you can spot still at many airports@@dominicliner1609

Aviation has changed so much. Hardly any of the same airlines, hardly any of the same aircraft, and certainly hardly any of the same liveries
