In Wisconsin we have to have our batteries strapped down I'd check the regs to make sure you are legal. Basically if you boat tips over the batteries have to stay in place here in Wisconsin. My dad has his strapped to the boat even though they are in compartments like yours. He also had to move a bunch of stuff like his batteries and gas tank forward to balance the boat out.
