- Following the economic collapse of a company town in rural Nevada, Fern (Frances McDormand) packs her van and sets off on the road exploring a life outside of conventional society as a modern-day nomad. The third feature film from director Chloé Zhao, NOMADLAND features real nomads Linda May, Swankie and Bob Wells as Fern’s mentors and comrades in her exploration through the vast landscape of the American West.

I spent 5 years, between 2015-2020, traveling the country. 35,000 miles. 60 years old when I started, and I sold everything I owned to do it. Just me, my car and some clothes. Sometimes staying with people I met on social media, sometimes renting; working occasionally. Blogged a bit. It was amazing, fascinating and absolutely, thoroughly wonderful. It changed me deeply. Back home now, I have no regrets. Can't wait to see this film.

I finally saw NOMADLAND....and I was DESTROYED by its beauty, its quiet moments, its sadnessI highly recommend it!
I am not sure but I was not moved by this movie as much as I thought I would be. I think a movie like The Florida Project really changed me and moved to the core because it just felt so desperately sad. I think maybe because children were the story, and when an adult lives in a van by choice I just didn't feel much. Also, the movie Into The Wild already explored this I feel on a deeper level.

The Israelites were greed from the Egyptian's grip, and forgot who had been hearing their prayers for years! Moses 40 yrs privilege, 40 yrs in the wilderness.40 yrs leadership what a rough trip but he mostly didn't slip or likely kip!
This second trailer made the film even more beautiful and heartwarming, makes me want to watch it for the third bloody time! "one of the things I love most about this life is that there's no final goodbye, let's just say, I'll see you down the road" makes my heart melt all the time.

But I was legitimately blown away to find out, Linda May, Swankie, Bob wells and a lot of the other nomads in the movie were actually nomads. They literally played their roles perfectly, but can’t say I’m totally surprised since it is their lives.
Even people she met in stores and rhe hostesses at the front desks were REAL people in those towns, not actors.
That's what makes this film so special.

I'm in the process of getting everything ready to start my nomad journey, I was debating it still with a little hesitation and as I spoke with a friend about it....this trailer came on. The Universe has spoken and I am ready to listen
TA McDowell: Just stay true to being a nomad. If your going on TH-cam to be a travel vlogger. Stay with that and don’t whine and beg for money. Be self-sufficient and take care of yourself. People will respect you so much more!
@@maryj.1261 thank you for the advice. I don't have any plans to beg or whine lol...I'm a hiker and nature junkie so my focus will be on that. I don't have a youtube, not sure I will even go that route. I Instagram but to share with others only. Maybe I'll do YT occasionally to share videos but really, I'm doing this for me.
I've been nomadish living since May2020 I live out if my SUV I stay in the midwest and my belongings that I will soon give away is in storage. I just "did it" it's so freeing..and without the tips from Bob Wells and other TH-cam creators this wouldn't be possible.

Heartbreaking and heart warming, a sad yet triumphant piece of story telling, a provocative statement that does what a good movie should do. It brings you to a point of introspection and has you examining the parallels of love, friendships and those lost in your own life. A thoroughly entertaining look at the complex dichotomy of modern day nomadic life.

This was a very happy cut of the picture. I was crying through half of this movie.

the fact that most of the people in this film are non actors is truly incredible!
Watch a Safdie Bros movies. Literally everyone except for their main character is not an actor. In some cases even the main character is not an actor like with heaven knows what

Nothing special about actors
As a Parkie/Seasonal Job worker who’s spent the past couple seasons out West & on the road, this trailer made my heart long for more adventure. I’ve only been living in Idaho for like two months, but it’s been too long, I wanna get back on the road, find some new adventure, and explore with old & new friends ahh, I can’t wait!

I am so looking forward to seeing this film. I have been intrigued by the nomad community for quite some time.
When i was stationed in South Dakota with the Air Force back in the 90s, my friends and i used to hang out in The Badlands a lot; something magical about that place.
Frances McDormand in a class by herself as an actor. Brilliant performance.
And that newcomer, Bob Wells, I think he has a bright future in acting also. 😁

This is crazy!!!! I have been feeling like this is all I wanna do with the rest of my life for the past 2 years and this random film comes out and feels like a big PUSH! 🤔
I’m a truck driver. Any time I go thru Quartzsite AZ, I stop and take some time to talk to the “nomads”. Some very friendly and interesting folks (for the most part-there are a few loners that don’t want to be bothered)

RENT AN RV AND DO IT For 6 months. Utube videos DELIBERATELY DO NOT TELL THE TRUTH ABOUT IT ALL. Don’t assume these people are being totally true about it all. Go out for a long time in a rental. THEN DECIDE. NOT BEFORE. BEST ADVICE I CAN GIVE YA.

Best Cinematogrpahy and Best Actress are both (maybe)s. Mank is going strong in Best Cinematography and Carrey Mulligan might get the Best Actress hype for Promising Young Woman. They might not feel like giving Frances McDormand a third Oscar especially when she won her last one only 3 years ago. I'm pretty sure Chloé Zhao will win Best Director though.

Even people she met along the way in local stores or the Hostesses at the front desk... they were all REAL people in those towns, not Actors.
Bob Wells is a messiah in the Van/RV dwelling community and the story he tells at the end is true.. and very heartfelt because its something he never revealed to his viewers... i wont spoil, but its one of the best moments of the movie to me.
I dont think it glamorized this lifestyle at all.. it was pretty true-to-life.

I'd say this is a movie. In that watching Easy Rider and imagining it's all like that all the time is delusional. It's more like an endurance test and sort of dangerous in reality.

I watched this last night and it felt sad to me. Her expressions didn’t seem happy to be out there, but maybe it was still sadness from the loss of her husband? Some smiles with people along the way. The trailer was more enjoyable then the movie was to me.

The film is pretty good, but I would never buy a service for it, such as Hulu or anything else for this particular movie. It is "Hollywood" good, which means it is how some liberal, probably wealthy (or hangs out with), people see the world, this world, which is not really authentic at all. Amazon must have helped finance the movie too. It is pretty "sanitized" version of this lifestyle. There is no crime, no sexual assault on women, no drug use, no swearing, no side of real ugliness of society that surely does occur.

Francis McDormand is a great actrice, anyway, and this seems to be an interesting film with a very impirtant theme. Hope cinemas in Germany will open soon again so that WE can watch this Film!

Watched this movie and to be honest its like me going to the supermarket buying tones of loo roles. Bringing back home putting them on the shelves staring at them while they finish.
