Instead of a socket you can cut a plastic highlighter in half, slip it into the seal from the backside ...slide it over the water pump shaft. there is also a tapered aluminum tool that works for installing that seal as well....
@2:48 I noticed you removed the cover and installed the reluctor. My current project arrived already disassembled (1994 LT1). Is a reluctor only used in 1996 LT1 engine? Thank you for putting this series together sir.
yes,,, even though this is a 94 the motor used in this car was from a 96-97 car ... will have a ton more stuff coming up ... just trying to make the time for this car .... to many stuff i am working on lol
We entered a small Dyno competition at a local college (I’m a high school auto teacher) and the rules made us run an old style block but the head rule said any production sbc head, so we welded up the water port on a set of LT1s and drilled 3/4 holes out the back of the heads and ran the water back to the threaded holes on both sides of the water neck. We fully ported the LT1s and on our bench (Superflow 600) it flew around 260 cfm and near 80% exh (can’t recall exh cfm). We made 530 hp and 487! Ft lbs with a 355ci flat tappet and flat top pistons. We were 80hp above 2nd place! 😏. The following yr they sent us the rules “NO PORTING ALLOWED” 😕 so after a ton of searching we found a set of LT4s. We welded them up and did a nice valve job. They flew exactly the same as the ported LT1s! We went back that yr and made only 1 Horsepower less than the yr before!!! We then beat 2nd place by 100hp 😎 because they all had horsepower drops from the no porting rule. They canceled Dyno competitions after that lol Love your videos! Nelson Performance.
Quick tip for hub removal. Take the thick washer off the crank bolt and run the bolt in all the way by hand then back off 4 or 5 turns. Then use the puller leaving the bolt in place. When the hub starts to turn, stop and remove the puller and back the bolt out a few more turns. Repeat til the hub is off.
Thanks for the video. In the procedure of swapping a cc503 in my lt1 camaro. And this video helped alot. I fucked up the oil pan gasket while installing the timing cover and it ripped. Trying to take off the oil pan to install a new oil pan gasket. Any tips? Just unbolt the motor mount and jack up the engine?
you should be able to drop the oil pan without removing the motor mount but if you have to you can remove one motor mount bolt jack up a little no need to remove both mounts
@@maldo72 thanks. Yea im gonna try removing it enough so I can slip in a new gasket. Heard ppl stretching it from the bottom of the pan. Picked up some right stuff silicone today and it works great
contact them they are great to work with and i believe they can make custom grind if you request .. they can hook you up.. also look up on eBay when they have available.
Is anything different for a 93 z28? I am puttin a petris opti in (vented conversion) and since im gonna down there and im taking the timing cover off, what do i need to know before doing this? I have a repair manual if all else fails 😂
Right on man I have a 95 Z28 green like yours just rebuilt the motor and heads has a 220/230 xtreme energy cam summit racing long tube headers and 3 inch Y pipe waiting for EGR delete plates
Nice build man! I’m finishing up my build now and I can’t find hardly anything on installing the front cover back on with the engine in the car. Someone did say you have to loosen some oil pan bolts. How many bolts would you recommend loosening on each side of the oil pan to allow an easy installation of the front cover? Thanks bro.
you would need to pull all the blots out of oil pan but leave the last two rear pan blots loose... this will give you enough for the pan to drop down so that you can install the timing cover ... super easy so that you don't tear the one piece oil pan gasket
Nice content! I bought a "special" tool for the upper Timing chain seal. It was cheap on ebay and works great. But your way to do it was just as smooth. How did you end up, sealing the corners from your oilpan? I never removed the timing chain cover without pulling the oil pan, but seems like it works pretty good without removing the pan. How many bolts of the pan did you remove to do that? Can't wait to get back to the garage! Will your motor be running this weekend? Can't wait to hear it !
Hoping to get it running before the weekend ... To get the timing chain cover off completely you have to remove all the oil pan bolts except the the last 2 in the back this is so you can pop off and on the timing cover so you dont ru8n the Oil pan gasket
That water pump seal method is GOLD!!!!!
thx for watching

yes there are many ways to get this seal on properly thank you for the feed back
