  • Visiting Sri Lanka's Highest Mountain Village - Shanthipura, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka
Video about the stay at the homestay here ➡ • I Stayed Overnight In ...
Next to the mountain town of Nuwara Eliya, there is a small village called Shanthipura. It’s an interesting place to visit as it’s the highest village in Sri Lanka with over 2300m (7540ft) above mean sea level. I was curious to check it out, so I rented a motorbike and went up there. Join me on this trip here in the mountains of Sri Lanka.

I am Ken Abroad, a full-time traveler traveling southeast Asia, currently in Sri Lanka, making Sri Lanka travel vlogs. It is my goal here on this channel to visit every country in southeast Asia and bring you along the journey.
You won’t see much tourist places in my videos, I rather like to show the “real” sides of each country in my videos. Where do the local people go to eat? Where do they hang out? How do the locals travel through the country? Stuff like that.
There will be almost daily uploads on this channel, during the next months from Sri Lanka. I will be traveling Sri Lanka, showing you around local places and try lots of different Sri Lankan food. Join the journey if you are interested in experiencing Sri Lanka now from a more authentic local point of view.

Oh! And Monks robe colors represent their sects. I cannot remember which color for which sect because monks wear only what is offered and people tend to offer robes without much considering the colors. Normally Monks wear, orange, brick red and brown. Monks wearing Brown is usually monks who lives in forests and only eat from "pindapaatha" Which means these monks go to nearby villages during meal time and people offer food to the pot they are carrying.

    Single tree hill
    Lover's leap waterfall
Moon plains safari (don't if it is a rainy day)
Bomburu ella falls (need to go on foot for some hike)
The blackpool area (surrounding area is really beautiful)
    Horton plains
    Ambewela milk factory
And nuwara eliya to hatton road is very beautiful. You can see few waterfalls from the road.
Have a great journey. Stay safe.

Hi Ken, you are really an adventurous person. You visited many places in Thailand & now you are doing it in Sri Lanka. I don't know how much you discovered in Malaysia. The last place I visited in Malaysia is called Kelantan which is in the North bordering Thailand. Although a Malaysian, I believe that I still have many, especially interior remote places to visit. I also know quite a lot about Sri Lanka & I have visited Nuwara Eliya a number of times but I have never been to places that you are visiting. I wonder whether even many Sri Lankans know these places. You are really doing a great job.

The Buddhism in Sri Lanka had died by the time at the beginning of the kandyan kingdom, so the king had to bring monks from Thailand (which was then named Siam) and re establish buddhism.. Later with time certain monks in SL migrated to Myanmar (which was then named ramagngna) and got re robed there according to their personal preferences, anyhow the buddhism brought from both countries have the same teaching! What differs only are the practices of monks i.e the monks following Siam usually wear orange robes and shave their head including eyebrows and monks following the other wear the robe what you saw and dont shave their eyebrows.. these are only two basic significant differences but there can be many but "note" its only their practices and not the buddhas teachings differ!! Its the same Theravada buddhism followed by the people here! 😊

You should try Horton plains. It's a bit further away and a lot of walking but definitely worth it. There's a couple of waterfalls and there's a lot of deer, you might spot a leapord if you're lucky.

Nuwara Eliya is a beautiful town and the surounding area is so nice, and amazing people.
Yes it can be very cold, especially if you come up from the coast. It can also be very wet, last time I was there it never stopped raining but, so beautiful.

Suggest you to visit Haputale after you're done with Nuwara Eliya. There you can visit a place called 'the Lipton Seat' and a few villages including one of the biggest tea factories at 'Dambathenna'.

Hi Ken, Glad to see you are enjoying Nuwara Eliya. If you have some time check out Jagro strawberry farm. There's a small cafe there and you can have fresh strawberry related products like cheesecake, waffles etc. Also they have a really good hot chocolate drink. Cheers!!

    Hi, Ken
