Nirthern Mazedonia is correctly name. Nothing to do with Ancient Greek Empire of Macedonia
I had a conversation about this with several Macedonian locals. Calling the country "North" Macedonia is actually quite offensive for most locals. Also, the reason they agreed to officially change to North Macedonia was to try to join NATO, which they still have not succeeded in doing as of this writing. So you are right, Northern Macedonia is the official correct name, but when you are in this country, avoid saying "North" if you don't want trouble.

It was also about joining NATO, but primarily about the demarcation between the newly founded Republic of Macedonia and the ancient Greek Macedonia.
In North Macedonia, they tried to save face by claiming to be the historical heir of Ancient Macedonia. That's why you see so many monuments in Skopje that are supposed to suggest a connection to Alexander the Great.
But this is historically incorrect. Ancient Macedonia belongs to the history of Hellenism, just as the recognized history describes it.
South Slavic is spoken in North Macedonia, but the migration of the South Slavs into the region did not take place until around 600 AD, while Hellenistic Macedonia came into being around 300 BC.
There is also no internationally recognized history book in the world that confirms the claims or interpretation of history, which in North Macedonia is based exclusively on the dissemination of non-historically verified claims.
