      Yeah in the heat of the moment it probably felt contentious since it's such a rare call, but looking at it objectively it was definitely correct. I don't know how the umps stay focused in an atmosphere like that

      That entire at bat was bizarre. If he leaned into it, which he did (and almost looked like he did on the pitch up and in too), then why would he swing wildly on a 3-0 when the ball was low? Even if the pitch was borderline wouldnt he let it go? If he walks, pressure mounts, and another walk ties the game.

      I Agree with you totally, I remember watching a Blue Jays game in August when Vlad did the exact same thing, leaning on a pitch to get intentionally hit, but the umpire let him go to first when replay clearly showed he leaned in, credit the umpire for having the best in the playoffs.

    The Phillies never panic,when they fall behind in games they are so discipline and confident in their guys to come back. They have excellent pitching,great hitters and a really good defense. All around great team.

      The last season with extended playoffs and Phillies are taking advantage of it. Good for them. Next season back to almost old school rules, no playoff extended and they banned the shift too.

      @@daxecutioner24 it's crazy how this team has failed in one area only to make up for it in another. Rhys & Nick have done it multiple times. Hector Neris threw Zero strikes on the bases loaded...I was so pissed @ his impatience! Then he saves the game laying out!

    I’m from Philly and watched a baseball game for the first time in my life last night even though I’ve been to a Phillies game before (paid no mind to the game). It was truly a masterpiece and beauty of a game, the intensity, fans, patience was exhilarating!

      same here!! born and raised in philly and i’ve been to plenty of games and never paid an ounce of attention. i watched all three games last weekend & last night and it was absolutely amazing!! i might be a baseball fan after this and i’ve never like sports in my life

    This game was an instant classic. So many clutch moments for the Phillies that ultimately resulted in an extremely important win, especially since we have Wheeler going for us tomorrow.

    probably one of the most "heart jumping out of my chest" games I've seen a while... Astros 29-0 when leading 5+ but Verlander 0-6 going into it... great tension for the storyline with a great and intense story finish!

    This game was so fun to watch. I was absolutely convinced the Astros were going to win by the third inning and then the Phillies got things rolling and came out on top. Impressive that they could do that while down 5-0 and at Minute Maid. This game was a classic! I couldn’t look away!

      Especially in the World Series of 2022, you cannot be at home with a 5 run lead and let the Philadelphia Phillies back in the game to eventually win it. The fans were rockin' at home in Houston after 2 Kyle Tucker bombs, than the Phillies chipped away for 6 unanswered runs.

      Oddly enough, people who have been to Phillies games (especially playoff games) considered Houston’s crowd last night rather lifeless. And it was, relative to a Phillies crowd...
      I don’t think people understand what a Philadelphia playoff game atmosphere (in Philadelphia) is actually like... they think its all hype, or cliches, or rhetoric (until they are there, first hand)...
      That Houston crowd last night was a geriatric clinic compared to a Phillies atmosphere. That is not to “act” all hype about Phillies fans, pep rally style.
      Its just the truth. Its day and night different.

    The Phillies got hot going into the playoffs. I think it is almost better to pace yourself throughout the season and get hot right at the end. Not saying Phillies will win the world series, but they sure look good right now. That was a huge win for them on the road.

      I completely understand the reference to the ‘80 team, but to me it feels closer to the ‘93 team with a touch of the ‘08 team. They have great role players, a lineup top to bottom, and are never out of a game no matter the score. They don’t need “better” pitching to win, just “equal” pitching.

    You play and watch baseball for 20 years and you think you understand this game.
    You can never understand this game completely. It will surprise you again and again. I cannot express to you how over I thought this game was. It was over. It was done. And yet... I forgot what is so great about sports and life in general when things got you down. There are underdog stories that end well. YOU can be one of those underdogs too. The Phillies this postseason have reminded me of that and have really inspired me. It's just another reminder.

      @@AdderTude It was a swing and miss, no contact made and the catcher didn't catch the ball in the air. There used to be a safe signal, but that was much confused with a foul ball indicator. Umpires have previously said the umpire was to point with the right hand, holding the arm straight out to the side, to indicate the strike. While doing this verbalize, "No catch". Quick google search does wonders for the signals of such events.

    This game was awesome from beginning to end!! So many Peaks and Valleys, Highs and Lows, but it was a Classic!!! The Phillies are locked in and loaded!!     Wow falling by 5-0 on the road against Verlander, get 5 runs on him and win the game extras? Unbelievable and damn impressive by PHI.     This was as exciting as any game I've ever seen in any other sport. Just . . . wow. That catch by Castellanos in the bottom of the 9th inning will be shown and talked about for the next 100 years, and that was just one of MANY incredible moments. Who knew that the Phillies would become the most entertaining team in MLB?!

    The bottom of the 9th was crazy lmaoo. That almost game changing call on the stolen base, Nick Castellanos' amazing catch to end the inning. Wow. Excited for the rest of this series! Phillies in 7 is my prediction.

    As an Astros fan, I’m not worried. Stanek has been our best reliever all year outside of Presley, but Dusty decided to go with Garcia. I knew it was a boneheaded move when it happened. Sure enough, that cost us the game. We should win tonight though.
