Robert Reed is my favorite TV dad. He shows how to be a great father/step father. Behind the scenes some of the Brady kids said he was more of a father to them than their own father.

I think it was really adorable the way the kids took on the stepparent as their own. They called them mom and dad. And Cindy’s “Yes, Daddy” at 1:03 when Mr Brady was lecturing was so cute. The kids never smart mouthed them and they respect and listen to them. Ah, the good old days.

Robert Reed was outstanding in his role of Mike Brady. Having been a lifelong fan of the show, I say that he never made Mike a dolt, a doormat, and/or even perfect, but rather a firm, morally strong, understanding, and loving father and husband to his family. RIP Robert Reed, Florence Henderson, and Ann B. Davis.

The saddest thing about his Brady time was that he felt it was beneath him, professionally. He didn't realize that he was teaching the world how to be a great dad, while at the same time, Florence was doing the exact same thing. Between my own dad, whe died when I was 13, and Mike Brady, I learned how to be a great dad. That role was far bigger than any he'd ever play in Hollywood.

I think we have to remember that Cindy is only six or so this season, so it’s totally normal for her to not know what tattling is. Besides, during this lecture, neither Mike or Carol explained the difference between tattling and giving information. Remember later on when she does say that Tiger took Alice’s letter, because she was told not to tattle? She followed Mike and Carol’s words literally word for word. They didn’t fully explain to her what is and isn’t tattling here, so she gets confused.

Once in a while the show would have a scene on the more “serious” side, like this one. Not that childhood tattling is all that serious or dire a topic, but the tone of the scene comes off as more in line with a serious drama than a sitcom. It makes me wonder what the Brady Bunch would’ve been like if the producers had steered it more toward the kind of show that Eight Is Enough was a few years later, probably more in line with what Robert Reed would have preferred.
Also Marcia gave up too easily on rescuing her school paper from Tiger’s thieving jaws.

Alice hugging the mailman cause she was excited about winning the mail-in contest was innocent, but without proper context, repeating that story with missing details to someone else almost led to a fight. Also, Cindy needed to learn discretion. Not everyone needs to nor wants to hear every detail, and it's not good to publicize other people's personal problems.

Cindy replies "Then you're just going have to learn for yourselves." Jan asks "What?" and Cindy says "That Bobby almost fell off the house." and you see Mike start to get peeved and you see Carol and Jan think "Oh my god!"

Heres a question I have was it tattling when I saw a mentally disabled girl from the care home I lived at about to go into the street? I had gone in the house an interrupted the Staff meeting to tell them Um Shes about to into the road they all got up and grabbed her wheelchair before she could do it She is unable to talk but she kept kicking and screaming yelling ow (to her it means no) she has the habit of trying to sneak away when nobodys around then another time I caught her putting toys in her mouth (she plays with toys because its all she knows how to do) Staff took the toy out and told her no thats not food at the time I wasnt trying to snitch but I was worried she might get hurt

When Carol Brady did not want Cindy to switch the subject and when she said to Cindy "Never Mind about Tiger remember what your father told you." and when Mike said to Cindy "Oh yeah, I'd like to believe that" You can tell Mike and Carol were very firm and furious with Cindy because she created a misunderstanding between Alice and Sam and not to mention the many times in this episode when Cindy was tattling on the others in this episode.

Then he told her- no more tattling. But Sam asked where Alice was- and she told him. What's the difference? Shoot, in the beginning of the episode, Mike asked why the salt was unscrewed. Cindy told him why. And he got angry with her for answering his question... Such a bizarre predicament for ANYBODY!!

To be fair they probably figured she understood exactly what she was doing since when she tattled on bobby that one seemed intentional even so I thought they were being harsh like how carol sternly told Cindy to nevermind about their dog when she was just asking a question and was probably afraid that would be her punishment but I must say Cindy handled this very maturely in the next scene she could have gone to Marcia and Jan and complained about Mike and carol being mean but she didn't even though it seems like her parents had to use threatening to punish her as a last resort together to stop tattling

I can't believe you would just tell your child to be silent even if they see or hear something they know is wrong.
