      Less for glory and more for money, not many people choose to fight if they have another option for good reason. This shit takes years off of your life, and really it's quite sad that fighters get exploited so heavily by the organization.

    Rorys nose broke in the first round when the fight was only just heating up. Could you imagine going through nearly 4 more rounds like that taking the shots he did? And managing to hurt Lawler like he did at the halfway point? They say you underestimate how tough you can be which I'm sure is true, but I'm also sure it's not to THAT level. Especially when some belt is on the line and it's not to the death...unless ol Mario is the third man in there

This is Rory's job, and he's damn good at it, but if you don't give your all then you might be left hungry as it isn't like fighting pays well for the most part.

    This is possibly one of the greatest the world has ever seen. The amount of heart, determination, and grit it takes to trade punches/kicks without the ability to breath due to crushed noses. We the fans always re-watch this iconic great fight. In terms of fight agreement/booking/ranking or contract issue, this type of loss should not be count as losses, the losing fighter will be treated as the winner cause they gave everything for the fans and for the UFC, they put blood, sweat and tears, and gave the fans and UFC what they want and put their life and health as second priority. The loser will not be cut from the UFC and gave the bonus money too.. This is the Hall of Famer fights for sure.. We will remembered this fight always.

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      He'd probably still have won the fight if he just maintained distance and kept picking Robbie apart instead of playing Lawler's game. Robbie at this point was virtually indestructible, knocking him out was extremely difficult, even just hurting him was hard. Most fighters would have been done after that first serious exchange that left Robbie reeling.
      Firas said this best, he told Rory to be patient, and take him apart. Rory was impatient because Robbie just wasn't going down, he kept closing distance and letting Robbie land shots he really shouldn't have been able to get if Rory was playing it safer.
      Rory definitely would have won on points if he went the distance. Robbie specializes in war like that (I pity his brain for going such abuse ), and really Rory just couldn't take the same amount of abuse as Lawler could. I'd honestly be pretty annoyed if I was Firas haha, Rory would have been champion right here had he listened.

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He would have won the stand-up if he stayed technical, he had Robbie on the ropes and kept hurting him, whilst Robbie wasn't really able to respond to this. It's only when Rory committed to the pocket fight that Robbie really started landing shots on his already injured nose, and eventually he just broke down because there really aren't many fighters who can go the distance toe to toe with Lawler like that. The man's fighting style is equivalent to a terminator, he just walks you down, eats your shot's, and tries to force you into a pocket brawl where he can use his power and durability to overwhelm you.
      Rory was the better fighter, he's more well rounded and far more technical, but his lack of experience really showed here. He got impatient, he played Robbie's game, and Robbie eventually just broke him.
      Firas kept telling Robbie the exact strategy he needed to win, stay on the outside, work those jabs in with kicks, and pounce when Robbie is injured. Rory stopped listening after the first serious exchange where anyone but Robbie would have been done, and after that he just really started letting instinct take over instead of keeping a level head and utilizing his strengths.

    • @AveSicarius
      @AveSicarius 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@thebutcher1412
      He was definitely winning on points, Robbie is just really hard to put down but Lawler took an INSANE beating after he got stunned by that head kick. Rory was landing more significant shots, he had more control over the distance and pace of the fight, and he wasn't really eating any significant shots aside from one or two early on (which unfortunately broke his nose) until he decided to take the fight toe to toe with Robbie in the pocket. He really only lost because his nose gave out, he was winning in every way before that, and his nose wouldn't have given out if he played it safer and just kept Robbie back with this lethal kicks setup from jabs. He also could have subbed Robbie if he hurt him or Robbie tired out after this.
      It's really not a good idea to go to war with Robbie, the man doesn't go down, he's ruthless in attacking any vulnerability, and he's got power in his hands while excelling in pocket fighting (a bit like a slightly more technical Ngannou). If you listen to Firas in the corner, he's constantly telling Rory to maintain distance and take Robbie apart, he just got tired and impatient, and tried too hard to KO Lawler instead of just dismantling him.
      I think it was really an experience difference here, Rory was the better fighter, but Robbie is a veteran and he just kept taking his fight to Rory until the latter broke down.

    About as masterful as a right handed southpaw as you can get. Robbie always stayed on the outside and made sure to keep distance until he moves in to strike, most that try to be right handed southpaws are always so easily there for the straight right from the ortho.
