Just Some Guy with a Mustache That legitimately made me laugh. I can always rely on the man with the glorious mustache to hit me with that killer one-liner.
I love Rick Jones. Marvel just took all of DC's sidekicks/teenagers and made them into one guy. With the Hulk..he's deconstructed Jimmy Olsen With the Avengers, he's their Snapper Carr With Captain Mar-Vell....he's the Billy Batson. He's like a cross between Xander Harris, Jason Stackhouse and a more well adjusted VENTURE BROTHER.
I'm not familiar with Jimmy Olsen, but I'd love to know what Rick did to deconstruct him. Cause I didn't know Rick Jones turned into Marvel's Doctor Manhattan!
Fun Fact in Chip Zdarsky's run the skrull who get turned into cows are killed at a slaughter house and turned into burgers and eaten by humans. One human girl named Tara Tam a tattoo artist who befriended Howard the Duck. Tara has shapeshifting powers by eating meat that was made out of Skrulls whom had changed themselves into cows.
Another thing was that AVENGERS writer Roy Thomas had also been writing the CAPTAIN MARVEL comic which was cancelled a year earlier, so he took the plot threads that were left hanging in that book and took them over to the Avengers.
The X-Men were actually cancelled by 1971 due to low sales and only published bi-montly reprinting old issues. They didn't become popular again until 1975 when Len Wein, David Cockrum and Chris Claremont created the all new team consisting of Wolverine, Storm, Nightcrawler, and Collossus.
i find it cool how a lot of marvel characters are also scientists- Reed Richards, Hank Pym, Bruce Banner, Jannet Van Dyne, T’challa, Victor Von Doom, Peter Parker, Dr Octavius, Dr Curt Connors, Proffesor X, Mr Sinister, Zola, Magnus, Cornelius, Beast, Bolivar Trask, Selvig, Stark
Glad you guys are reviewing more Avengers books! I read every issue so it's fun to he you guys take. Hopefully later you'll do the Korvac Saga, Siege, Operation Galactic Storm, The Crossing,
YES. God I needed this. This has been a tough week for me, but iff that. I'm grabbing something to eat and forgetting about everything else for the next hour.
1:57 Captain American DOES have power, it’s called the super soilder serum. And a suit that can fly, shoot energy beams, and protects your body is better than a bow and arrow... although no offense to Hawkeye, he’s cool
I find your timing great considering it looks like Lude Law is being cast as Mar-vell in the Captain Marvel film! I think that's inspired casting which means we will get some major screen time with the character before he dies.
@@megaultradamn I was actually pleasantly surprised by the way they reframed Annette Bening as Mar-Vell. We still got the mentorship but had her death on screen lead directly into Carols hero origin and powers.
Jesus how flimsy is that paper? Also it's more of that the Fantastic 4 convinced them to turn into cows because they asked something about what's the most harmless creature they could turn into, because the deal was that in exchange for the Fantastic 4 not to harm them they'll turn into that. After they turned into cows, they get their minds wiped.
Ah... its such a shame you guys don't like Shazam! He's such a cool character, and maybe my favourite. Sure there is a lack of really great legendary shazam stories, but there is so much potential there... such an interesting dynamic that when used correctly it's amazing. I first came across the character when reading Starman, (there's a crossover) and when starman starts beating up on Shazam, its a grown man beating up a 10-year-old kid. It's just so deliciously uncomfortable! And what other superhero is capable of that kind of vulnerability? Like in First Thunder where Superman finds him crying by himself... its genuinely moving... Then you add in the idea that he is a child applying childlike morality to the world, and the whole orphan child thing so he's the ultimate underdog... Shazam _can_ be used as a Superman ripoff by lazy people, but he could be so much more than that, and sometimes _is_ when a good writer understands the character (not Jeff Smith, ugh!) he occupies a space that no other character in comics does. Shazam is like Superman+harry potter+Big... what's not to like?
yeah... even having blatant anti-shazam propaganda like cp'n marvel junior saying to Superman: "you're so much better than Shazam, he's just a b-level superhero but we need A-listers like you!" and in another comic, a member of the public looking up at Shazam and saying "wow is that Superman? oh, no, it's just a cheap knock-off" XD dammit DC! so desperate and lame! But the thing is Sal didn't say "there are no good stories" he said, "I don't know why anyone would do anything with Shazam" (in the future) ie supporting the DC plot to sideline the character so he won't challenge the popularity of Superman. Thing is I think them worrying about that is underestimating Superman. They worry that he is not relatable because he is an all-powerful alien. And they see Shazam as Superman who is one of us ie relateable. but Superman gets his relatability in other ways. There is space in DC for both, and their relationship is really interesting.
zeugfilms Cool character accepted, But I've never read a Shazam solo series except the Geoff Johns and Gary Frank New 52 run. Shazam doesn't suck writers just don't know what to do with him.
I heard a lot about this story and thought about reading it because I thought it’d be good but I’m so happy I’ve not read it after hearing this😂wtf? Haha good episode as always guys!
STOP TEASING US AND JUST DO ANNIHILATION! I do agree it's awesome, SO DO IT SO PEOPLE CAN SEE HOW GOOD IT IS! Also do Annihilation Conquest, cuz that's really good too.
I really hate the colors in reprints of old comics like this when they're in collected trades, Everything is so bright, it takes out all the contrast and detail. If something was originally printed on newsprint paper then it should be reprinted on it too, imo.
The Kree-Skrull War might have been a bit silly in hindsight, but it was full of neat references and some seminal events. Those three - four, actually, but they will milk (heh) that for another twist - Skrulls had been turned to cows all the way back in FF #2, as Sal says. DC "paid homage" to that in Rebirth when they turned Manchester Black into a cow. The dude has a slightly higher standing than your run-off-the-mill Skrull, though... The awareness of climate change pre-dates not treating women like shit. They call Earth the "beachhead". They also mention that it's in the center of the universe...and I don't know how that works with orbiting, but whatever. Maybe they were saying that our galaxy is in the center.
I know that these comic companies care less about scientific accuracy than they do about a good story, but it couldn't hurt to at least have some actual scientists on speed dial for stories like this.
I have a schedule COMICPOP! You are screwing with my schedule! Now I have to rearrange the whole thing to account for me watching this Back Issues now! Because watching it later, is just not an option.
You should really stop saying the comic is bad I understand that it might be but as soon as you say that and then the 2 continue to criticize it I stop and exit out of the video cuz I'm not gonna listen to a back issue if its 'bad'
I think Sal getting so into the "NOOO!" that he ripped the comic is one of my new favorite comicpop moments :)
21:42
We need a comicpop “never addressed, never explained” shirt lol
Or "That goes nowhere later on"
Or “lets go back lets go back”
Or “I ate rats” with no context
I want a "Great question, so anyways..."
I can't stress enough how much I love comicpop especially back issues
I'm surprised Rick Jones didn't lose his hand when he pulled that victory out of his ass.
Just Some Guy with a Mustache That legitimately made me laugh. I can always rely on the man with the glorious mustache to hit me with that killer one-liner.
One of the more quotable episodes. Especially Ethan saying with exasperation, "All right, how does this end?"

That was actually created by Grant Morrison in the 90s mini series Skrull Kill Crew.
this is just a beautiful piece of silver age schlock, thank you for doing this for back issues guys
15:33 OH MY GOD HANK JUST CALM DOWN
Another thing was that AVENGERS writer Roy Thomas had also been writing the CAPTAIN MARVEL comic which was cancelled a year earlier, so he took the plot threads that were left hanging in that book and took them over to the Avengers.
Three cows shot me down is a classic line.

Wow that was a bigger shocker than a Robot and a Witch kissing.
Sal makes comics better.
By destroying them 🤣

Mokkari77 .... And Thunderbird!
😁
And Sunfire!
Also Banshee!
you know we're all reading that in the nerd guy voice from the simpsons
Yeah, I guess that's to be expected.
1:03:41 Jesus wept; Voltaire smiled. From that divine tear and from that human smile is derived the grace of present civilization
Ronan: Oh this is precious the robot has fallen in love with the witch how preposterous a robot and a witch
Watching this after seeing Secret Invasion and Captain Marvel... ... i have such strong emotions... idk what they are but i do have them.
Righteous Indignation might be one of them.

This episode is hands down the funniest and most entertaining episode you guys done, fantastic
What’s up comic pop! Just wanted to say that you guys are one of my favorite channels! Keep up the good work!
YES. God I needed this. This has been a tough week for me, but iff that. I'm grabbing something to eat and forgetting about everything else for the next hour.
I crack up when Ethan uses his Henchman 24 voice with the Supreme Intelligence.
"Don't forget because there's this Kree-skrull war going around"

I had been so curious about this ever since reading Alias, and seeing the Rick Jones pretender.
This is fantastic timing! I finished reading the trade of this, this week! Excited to see what you guys thought of it!
Anytime i see a 1hr-plus episode it makes me warm inside lol
This is by far one of the funniest episodes and I’m only 9 minutes in 😂
Yes! Sal has confirmed Annihilation Back Issues one day.
We finally got it.
@@Macewinrude I know I watched it
College Applications CAN WAIT!!!!!! AVENGERS KREE/ SKRULL WAR BABY!!!!

A moment of silence for the man's hopes and dreams... 🫡😔😞😢😩😫😭
With future sight I think it would have been better if they just killed him offscreen in the mcu lol
@@megaultradamn I was actually pleasantly surprised by the way they reframed Annette Bening as Mar-Vell. We still got the mentorship but had her death on screen lead directly into Carols hero origin and powers.
I’m loving the over an hour episodes
was trying to save this for thanksgiving but i just cant, love you guys! keep it up!
Damn robots, coming here and shacking up with our mutant women! I wont stand for it!
Very entertaining as always, guys..!! Informative & hilarious..!! Thanks again for all your vids..!
I am a big fan of Back Issues. Please keep up the good work. I love the show.
21:44 u ripped the comic??????
It shouldn’t matter when it’s a collected edition like that
and they used to give Ben shit for bending the spine ...
*stuffs mouth full of marshmellows* Destroy it!

Lol Rick Jones tends to bring this up ALL the time too!
About the question around the 51 minutes mark: sometimes the enchantment was shown not to activate outside Earth.
So it just me, or does "the Farm" sound like that story parents used to tell kids where their dogs died "Oh we took him to a farm"
Even if it was only a dollar the comic ripping hurt me for some reason.
I like when Sal say thats a good question...
Loved this story, can't wait to see it get eviscerated 😂

9:20 This made me lose it 😂😂😂
awesome, it lack a little bit more gunthar but really cool episode :p
I never realized until this video how similar Ethan and Tiffany are, it's almost uncanny
I'm convinced they're siblings
The evo-ray... You can defeat the Hulk with it
your thoughts and reactions to the comic was more entertaining than the comics.
Digging the tune at the end.
This was such a great episode. 👍
I hope they get around to covering Avengers Forever sometime
Great episode!
I hope you do Galactic Storm someday, I really enjoyed that one.
When is Muppet Tiffany going to get an episode of back issues?
Do you know how many people we lost, how many lives were ruined to seal her away in the first place? And you want to bring her _back?!_
Just Some Guy with a Mustache seals are meant to be broken. She will return one day and there will be a reckoning. All hail Muppet Tiffany.

if you do Operation Galactic Storm you get Clint as Goliath again.

Wait does any of this tie into monsters unleashed? With people summoning old comic book heroes/monsters?
So will Annihilation be one of your "Crisis every ten episodes" bit, or something sooner?
Wow a early back issues cool
Now, that I think of it, is this the oldest storyline done in the show? I can't think of another one
If only in Guardians of the Galaxy Ronan was torturing a Skrull instead of a Xandarian. Missed opportunity.
Skrulls are everywhere man
Yes please sal! Ant-man aka yellow jacket aka The Wasp vs Reed Richards was amazing
