The best muddy spot in Lake Macquarie is the bay where the creeks that run through Toronto Country club/golf club enter the lake to the west of Stiles Point. Google map it you will work it out.
Many unmarked crab traps littering bays in Lake Macquarie but producing little. Another reason is that water in summer getting too warm with stuff all current run.....unlike Brisbane water estuary. For shore based fishing, Lake Macquarie is becoming a stale water, silted shallow hole.

Lake macquarie definitely need helps with flow, perhaps the dredging will help. Power stations don't help the situation.
Wrap a stink bait in a bit of strong nylon pantyhose, no hook needed.. Crabs for days

In Brisbane water it's illegal to use any crab traps they can only be line caught. Which is why it's such a good population of crabs there
