I had to do 90 days for possession of devil's lettuce. My grandpa was sick and I knew that no matter what, he would pass while I was in. Amd with 9 days to go, he passed. Two weeks before an inmate tried unsuccessfully to escape at a funeral so I had to be escorted by 2 deputies. My family treated them so well with food and just being nice so they let me tske off my shackles to go see him before we put him in the ground. They knew I wasn't going anywhere so they were very relaxed. My brother, who looks and sounds a lot like me and was wearing similar clothes to me said his goodbyes to everyone and went to leave. The cops thought he was me trying to escape and tackled him. After they realized it was my brother, with me on the sideline laughing with everyone else, all was ok. It really lightened the mood.
@@303Thatoneguy The Devil’s Lettuce 🥬 comes from the old anti-marijuana propaganda from the 1930s, when “Reefer Madness” first began. There’s a film on TH-cam from the propaganda campaign called "Reefer Madness" which, if you haven’t seen it, you should. It’s hilarious hyperbole and it’s intended to terrify people and make them believe weed can make you hallucinate, become violently psychotic, kill babies and stuff. There are also references to “devil's lettuce” and other unholy labels for cannabis on anti-weed film posters from the '30s and 1940s. It would be great to print some up and decorate your grow house with them.

Actually yes. I don't believe in supernatural abilities, possessions, etc, but likewise it is difficult for 9 people to lie about the same story consistently (someone usually confesses it's a hoax given time). Personally, I think Don locked himself up in a peculiarly strong and unusual form of grief, a type of self-induced seizure if you like. While in that state, he somehow caused the 'rain' himself. I don't know how, there are a few cases where people have done inexplicable things. Perhaps his form of rage creates intense heat and humidity (what was the natural humidity in the region at that time?) - although how he can pinpoint that humidifying effect across the prison and into a warden's office, I've no idea. The degree of belief in Christianity (and all the relevant creatures within that religion) in America is pretty extreme (from a British standpoint), so it is perfectly rational that a believer will believe himself released from a demonic possession if he believes he is in that state. However, I would sooner think that Don's grief and the depth of his anger gave him this strange ability for a short space of time. It is not unusual to 'see' the dead after they have passed on. I have seen someone who'd died, sitting where they usually sat each night. I saw a friend in my home - on the day he died in hospital. And a friend saw his dad in his beloved greenhouse 2 weeks after he'd died. You walk around immersed in your grief, remembering, imprinting, drawing on memories, and so it is no surprise that you may catch a glimpse of that someone unexpectedly. Therefore, it's natural that the grandfather should appear in the mirror - especially as there is so much emotion tied up in the man.

I remember when this was featured on Unsolved Mysteries in the 90's. One of the cops involved said the "water" was greasy and at one point, came out of the walls sideways, hit his leather coat and rolled upwards - defying the laws of gravity.
i just commented the very same thing but he left out lots more. like the sideways rain. the prison minister having to do an exorcism. very interesting and scary stuff. i definitely recommend people go there to watch the entire story.
I lived in Stroudsburg since 2000 and worked at the pizzeria across the street from this house. This really did happen. Not to many people know about this and its amazing Mr ballen is telling this story.
@gnov-oq3zt How wild that you watching this video lived and worked across the street from this house and know that it really happened, I completely believe you and this case. How scary! I’m happy that Don did get released from his evil grandfather’s spirit but wow this was a wild experience! Do the same officers, warden and Bob and Jeanie still live in the house or the same area? I don’t think I could ever go back to my house if that happened to me! John aka MrBallen tells stories in such a great way you feel like you’re there experiencing the feelings and emotions that all 9 people did plus poor Don.
He is brilliant at using imagery, expressions and gestures to tell the story. He is a believable guy and that's important because it makes the story more credible.
He paints quite the picture, doesn't he? He like transports the listener inside the story. Wanna know what's weird? My tormentor growing up just died this morning. He died a slow, painful death from what I've read. This video timing is perfect. I forgave him a while back, but for some reason, I feel a bit more free and lighter. I'm still dealing with this fresh ball of emotions. A good ole nature walk should help. Thanks for the stories, M.B
I hope his passing brings you peace!! ♥🙏 Enjoy your walk as well. Nature is always a good remedy for so many things. Allows us to re-center and focus us on the good in life and what really matters. I wish total peace and happiness for you.
My tormenter was my Mom. She died horribly, but I don't feel better knowing that because she shows up happy and healthy in my nightmares on a regular basis. Turns out that the no nightmare drugs for PTSD only work for nightmares about physical injury. Those drugs don't do shit for a full night of your dead mother telling you that you'll NEVER be good enough. 😉 She's still a d**k.

My two children both female 12 and 16, also love your content, and we watch your TH-cam channel together, and it really gives us a great way to bond and spend time together. I had a really great paying job until about two months ago when I was laid off. In order to make ends meat, I started to drive for Uber and lyft until another job becomes available. Instead of driving around all day with music playing, I decided to play you're podcasts instead. At first, I thought that would be risky as I did not know if it would be appropriate. However, I sit at a 5 star rating on both apps, and I can't count the number of passengers who have asked me at the end of they're rides what are you listening to and where can I find it. I point them towards your TH-cam channel, your podcast, as well as medical mysteries and wartime stories. Thank you so much much for always being there for me, and I'm sure countless others during both good times and bad. I've heard mixed things about them too. I make comments sometimes on people's videos when the sponsor is iffy, but I don't feel like anybody cares enough to read them, so I appreciate seeing someone else discussing it too 👍 At the very least though, hopefully having a big name like Mr. B talking about his own experiences seeking out therapy, has contributed towards lessening the stigma around therapy somewhat. Depression and trauma is something I won't wish on anyone, because I've come to notice it is a gateway for humans to allow something dark into our lives.
I hope every child is kept safe, but unfortunately evil lurks everywhere.
I remember when this was featured on Unsolved Mysteries in the 90's. One of the cops involved said the "water" was greasy and at one point, came out of the walls sideways, hit his leather coat and rolled upwards - defying the laws of gravity.

I recognized the story immediately because I watch Paranormal Witness. And there’s an episode of this exact event. Pretty freaky!

It was a pretty popular segment in an episode of unsolved mysteries
I'm a visual person and I can say he's probably the best story teller with little to no pictures or videos as he speaks. Love this guy!
He paints quite the picture, doesn't he? He like transports the listener inside the story. You almost feel like you are daydreaming listening to him... for me, I forget I am even listening to someone speak. It's like watchin a movie in my head. He puts me in a trance. Get outta my heed, Mr Ballen! JK, I love it!

That was the most memorable episode!! That's where I first remember hearing of this, too. This story was told on a few programs/channels, too. Yes, I hate when important details are left out. Mr.Ballen tells the story well, though, always!
I don’t believe that this actually happened . Sounds to me like a case of mutually contagious delusion.

I forgave him a while back, but for some reason, I feel a bit more free and lighter. I'm still dealing with this fresh ball of emotions. A good ole nature walk should help. Thanks for the stories, M.B

My tormenter was my Mom. She died horribly, but I don't feel better knowing that because she shows up happy and healthy in my nightmares on a regular basis. I would just like to thank you, Mr Ballen. I have been an avid listener of you for years now. I'm sure you hear it all the time from many listeners, but I can't express in words how much it means to me and all fans of the strange dark and mysterious. Much love and many thanks.

Betterhelp have some nightmare reviews and a lot of responsible channels have dropped them as a sponsor. Please consider if Ballen studios should also drop them.
See, I definitely used to feel the same way, still kinda do. I just get iffy vibes from the company, personally. I use a different telehealth therapy company so I'm not in the market for a new therapist, but check the description of this video. Included is a reddit post that goes into some of the reasons why TH-cam creators are accepting sponsorships again, plus some evidence to back up claims of change from better help. I will say it does make me feel a bit better about watching creators who do accept better help sponsorships. I may not ever use betterhelp, but it's at least a starting point for some people.
@markedis5902 I came here to say the same. @MrBallen please reconsider the Betterhelp sponsorship. No disrespect meant I enjoy your content.
I've heard mixed things about them too. I make comments sometimes on people's videos when the sponsor is iffy, but I don't feel like anybody cares enough to read them, so I appreciate seeing someone else discussing it too 👍
At the very least though, hopefully having a big name like Mr. B talking about his own experiences seeking out therapy, has contributed towards lessening the stigma around therapy somewhat. Music editing was fantastic in this episiode, sounded more like the podcast but your story telling energy is like it usually is on TH-cam, it's the best of both worlds. Please keep this format, its defenatly better!
I have been fascinated by this story for a long time. It is amazing that so many upstanding citizens were willing to come forward and confirm it is all true.
Thanks, Mr Ballen for sharing this one with us.
Much love to Mr Ballen. ! Finish your tour with success. & keep it up with your uploads to the top 🔥

I’m in Atlanta! I’ll see you at your show tonight!
Lucky!
We all hope you enjoy it!!
Lucky you..
Hey my girlfriend and i live in Tucker Georgia! Wish we could go tonight !
@johnfoster8459 well wish in one hand 💩 in the other
I've been waiting for you to tell this story. Paranormal Witness did a great in-depth doc on this with all the witnesses. Truly a bizarre case.
I'll have to look for it on paranormal witness. Unsolved mysteries also did a great job featuring the story too
Hey John! I was in your tour last night at Coca Cola Roxy! It was one of the best nights and I will Definitely go on another when I get the chance!! Next time I'll do anything to meet you, you've made my life so much happier and helped me through some hard times. The tour was awesome! The music was amazing! And when the Thunderclap happened mid lighthouse story that scared the crap out of me!! 😂
Got your book yesterday and it’s amazing!!! 🎉🎉🎉
I‘m waiting for part two!!! 😁😁😁
Thanks for your great work!!!
The best storyteller Mrballen thank You Sir 🙏🏻
Hi Mr Ballen!!! Watching from Namibia! Big big fan! Thank you for all your stories!❤
Could you imagine if Mr Ballen was your teacher at school, you would never ever miss class ever. 🔥
Yes i would😂😂
And learn so much!
You underestimate how much I hated school
You think he would put in as much time and effort if he was on a teachers wage? Having to deal with these kids that we have now? He's an ex navy seal. He'd be sacked in a week for choking one of the little fuckers out. Life isn't like dead poets society (or any other of the hundreds of films where teachers touch the hearts of ghetto kids and change their lives. Teachers wear kevlar to the classroom
Wow your really on mrballens ===D
He tells stories so well!!
12:12 Woah… One might say, Dawn was quite aroused… 😂
😂😂😂
Is it not Don? It does sounds like Dawn to a non American. Either way, sounds like he may have had morning glory!
@ITIS2000MAN I thought Dawn also,😮
I'll take this story with a pinch of salt
@ITIS2000MAN the transcript says Dawn also. But I just thought it was Don.
Its so wild when someone talks about a place I lived... my mom worked at Monroe county corrections for 13 yrs. Im def gonna ask her about this guy later lol
Getting comfortable on my couch with my Coffee in hand, blanket on my lap getting ready for another Mr. B story😍. Love from Nairobi, Kenya❤️
I heard this story back in the early 90's on a french TV programm called "Mystères". It's about the same guy, Don Ecker, in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, except on that documentary, they didn't mention anything about the "bizarre grimace" or the "taping of the fingers". No mention either about the cuts on his neck and arms or the figure of his grandpa wearing a crown in the mirror. But the documentary mentions things not mentionned here : levitation, hands burning when a police officer put a rosary in his hands etc. The documentary has original testimonies and reenactment in english, with the voice-over in french and you can find it here on TH-cam under the title "Mystères 69 - le garçon qui faisait la pluie".
3 days after my aunt passed (roughly the same amount of time after his grandpa passed), "something" visited me at night. It felt like pure evil and yes, I was asleep when it happened but ..I was 38. I'm 43 now, never had nightmares like that before or since. I woke up screaming.. hugging the couch.
I know 100% that was external stimuli, not my own brain.
And the thought still terrifies me.
I watch this and it makes me think ..it wanted inside.
Glad you are okay and haven't been re-visited.
Its Ballen Sunday!
Please stop betterhelp sponsorships. I love your videos still and always will but just consider it please 🥺
Why? I'll take a bettethelp ad over online casino ads ANYDAY
I know it doesn't have the best reputation but mental health awareness is important.
He could have worse sponsors. What's your problem with betterhelp?
Heyyyy lady, what gives? 🙃
No explanation? 😂
How about no. It helps him make money
I bought the book while i was home on paternity leave and i haven't cracked it open yet. I brought it out here offshore with me and i am going to start reading it soon. I did not buy the signed copy because i want to get it personally signed one day. I've been following since you first started on TH-cam and cant wait to see you live one day. Keep doing what you are doing man. Be safe out there.
Yay! The best part of Sunday!
Except for church of course
