You can't without the spouse's signature, same with his adult son and daughter, but he could have forged their signature on a document if he convinced an agent to leave the application with him to get their signature.
If an insured is over 18 years of age, the policy must have their signature on new business. That is the law in Texas. I have heard of an agent that left a contract for an adult person to sign and low and behold the guy had just died. The woman forged the signature. You never get a contract signed without seeing them first and you never leave it anywhere without protecting it. The company and the agent's contract are on the line.
It isnt legal unless you have their express written permission. Some unscrupulous insurance agents might sign people up for things like this, but, highly unlikely that the home office would payout a policy like that. In fact, it is not exactly easy to take out a policy for an adult child even if the child lives in your home.
The fact that you always start your storytelling with a timeline is one of the most appealing aspects. You do an excellent job of keeping us aware of the continuing timeline as well.
I struggle to watch or listen to him without sponsorblock, all the self promos and terrible sponsors like better help midway through a story make listening impossible otherwise. The guy really comes off as disingenuous: the find the easter egg located in an image that has to do with a murder (glad it stopped), or treating something like a sponsor when it’s actually something he owns. His fluffed up stories can get a bit annoying at times when it’s over done, but can be for good listening. You need sponsor block to enjoy any bit of his content though.
@@DryCryCrystal I disagree. He has to make money somehow, and unfortunately that means sponsers. Everyone on TH-cam does this who make a career of it. I have no problem listening to his storytelling and the Easter eggs are a way for the viewers to get involved. It seems to be a “you” problem, most of his 9 million subscribers have no complaints. Be kind.

Its weird how people arent alerted about having life insurance put out on them. Like that feels like something someone should be alerted about by life insurance companies.
IIRC it has become illegal now. For a while, big companies were taking out life insurance on their low-wage employees, the beneficiary being themselves.
@@grmpEqweer yup, you need to have an "insurable interest" in the person. this was meant for what it sounds like, bread winner of the family passes away and you have mortgage and kids, okay definitely insurable interest. then it became employees, "I am down an employee" so insurable interest. Then it became my child might need to take care of me in old age - "insurable interest". Life insurance salespeople are the worst/dumbest. They would all be in the job they actually wanted but could never get if not.
Pure speculation, but I imagine they didn't have much in the way of physical evidence, so they lacked confidence in going to trial while relying on a bunch of circumstantial evidence. ...Also, I wonder if the son could've got off scott-free if he simply lied and said his father actually did go for the pipe wrench. So, he wrestled the tool away from his father and used it to kill him in self-defense.
I remembered having discovered your videos and binged them during the pandemic and you still had a few hundred subscribers and viewers back then, and to see you now with almost 10M subscribers, millions of views on your videos, and going ON TOUR is so wild to me. You've grown so much and I couldn't be any more happier. God bless you always Mr. Ballen, and thank you for bringing such a unique touch to the stories you tell.
I mean, this all seems a bit sketchy: - The son knew he had the physical advantage. - The father just sat there and took it, seeminly without resistance. - The son had the thing that was considered a weapon and the father apparently didn't try to take it? - They genuinely believed he was after them, and argued the son thought he was acting in self defense, but they tried to fake finding him? I can believe they thought this at one point, but I'm more likely to believe the paranoid helped build resentment for the second affair and the end wasn't an accident or out of fear, but resentment.
_Very_ sketchy. He could've knocked his father out, but that kind of violence def has hatred behind it. Also, who goes confront someone they're "scared" of inside their home?
I totally agree. Like if the son knew he had the upper hand he could of easily ran away. And when his father ran back to the bedroom why didn't he just leave? That is what i would have done.
the part that makes me reconsider if the mom and son possibly got away with premeditated murder is if the father had been simply sitting on the end of the bed staring, how could that EVER turn into him being beaten to death? especially by his own son? thats definitely NOT self defense and so really makes me wonder if it didn't become their plan to use what they found to get away with murder and collect a payment themselves. how horrible a situation? sickening
My thought as well, the whole family seemed to have a broken moral compass. There was no reason to kill the dad, he said it himself the son was much bigger and stronger than his Dad. At least I doubt they got the life insurance, but only less than 3 years for likely premeditated murder.
Same, Im thinking they acutally knew more of the plan then they let on and thought the Dad was gonna take it and run since he wasnt that faithful to begin with.

After getting my husband into your channel, every night he now asks me to play a Mr. Ballen episode so he can fall asleep. It’s literally his bedtime story lol.
I wonder if Mr Ballen is as amazed as we are over how successful he is. I remember watching him on Tiktok when the pandemic hit and now he's on TOUR?!?! I'm so proud to be a fan
Me too ❤ Not the tic tok part (never had that app). However, I found him in his early TH-cam days, and I've been a loyal fan ever since. Mr Ballen REPLIED TO ME OMG ❤ Coolest TH-cam interaction ever ❤
Hey, squid, I've been watching you since you first started, and I must say, you've come a long way sailor. Its good to see that you've stood by your principles and your audience. Thank you for the stories and the service to our country. I too am a veteran of the U.S. Navy and I'm proud to say that I watch you every chance I get.
I still remember when you got your start and uploaded stories 4 or 5 X's a week! It's been amazingly fun to watch the show morph somehow into an entire industry of its own. What a beautiful blessing it has been! 💕
IDK 33 months and 10 months in prison is a crazy light sentence. They plead guilty too so the prosecutor and judge must have REALLY truly believed that there was enough evidence that this all truly happened due to a big misunderstanding for them to allow such a lenient plea agreement.
How? If the police saw the software they installed and all that they discovered, the insurance policies, the affair, and shady deal, then they would see the paranoia was most likely true. Also, the murder weapon was a tool laying in the house, they didn’t bring a weapon of their own. It would be impossible to prove it was premeditated
@@tylerthompson1842 because there's no need to. His mom was there, bro. His mom could have just told his son to not bring weapon because they have one in his fathers home. this all seems fishy to me
This story sounds like something you would see and hear on Tales From The Crypt. On the show there’s always a character that is selfish, evil, unfaithful, etc. The character is usually ambitious or really wants something and at the end, they get what they wanted, just not exactly how they expected.
Falling asleep isn’t because it’s boring- it’s because good storytelling is calming and keeps the brain from going in a hundred different directions or having stress cause insomnia. I grew up listening to my dad’s bedtime stories, which he made up as he went along and recorded on cassette. We have those cassettes still- with our giggling in the background for funny parts. We would replay those to fall asleep to on nights he wasn’t telling a part of a story. Some listen to music, others listen to stories. I’ve done both, what’s best changes.
Oh, forgot part of my point. 😂 I listen to these stories repeatedly, or pause it as I fall asleep, so I do hear the whole story, often multiple times, just not in one sitting.
wow they got light sentences for basically staging a confrontation which lead to "manslaughter". It seems like premeditated murder with a great team of lawyers
Exactly! The dad was sitting down, the son on the doorway, he couldn’t turn around and leave? What’s more, he’s described as being so much bigger than his father, how was he in danger? His father did not attack him. Just an excuse to kill his father.
I’m still so grateful the MrBallen converts all the weights, measurements, speed etc into the European version and the currency into £. It’s a little thing but it’s so helpful.
Yes. I’m also grateful for it, especially with distances in stories. So, it’s easier to follow. That’s also something which annoys me with other TH-camrs. When they tell a story, I always have to interrupt to google distances, currencies and so on - otherwise I’m lacking imagination of the situation.
I dunno... He could have grabbed the pipe wrench to protect himself and just left. His dad was just sitting on the bed, son already had a physical advantage...
Yeah, the only account we have of how things "supposedly" went down is from Parth and his mother. I feel like the father would have at least tried to explain or justify his actions when he saw the wrench in his son's hand😕
@@KizzleCakes-cq4it I think you're 100% right abt that. Arun might have tried to explain things even without Parth holding the wrench. It seems like Parth & his mom built each up to get paranoid asf. Scandalous.
Right? I keep thinking he could have let his father explain once he had secured the wrench, but at the same time, considering what they thought was really happening, I don't know what kind of panic response I would have if I thought my mom, my sister and me were in danger of losing our lives. I don't know. Also, what if his father really was eyeing the wrench with the intention to attack his son and wife? We'll never know. I don't think the man deserved to be killed, I just can't be sure of how I'd react in a similar situation.
25:04, that doesn't really make sense. Sure he could have grabbed the pipe wrench but there was no need to kill his dad. Messed up family, the son and mom were actually worse. They actually killed someone, the Dad "only" wanted to commit insurance fraud, not murder. I wonder if they didn't actually want the life insurance money from the dad.
He used to do mysterious and bizarre tales. Now he just does lame murder stories like TMZ. Nothing weird or mysterious-ffs you can get this drivel on a million other channels. Thanks for the stories Mr Ballen. Doing this on stage is a throwback to when people would come and listen to an author speak about his book or tell stories, like a Mark Twain. Maybe you'll start a new trend of people reading again, and parents telling their kids stories, and the kids excited about listening to them. Thanks John. Keep up the good work.
If people can prove that they truly thought their life was in danger then usually they get a lot more leniency. It’s really similar to self defense. When you add the fact that the police did next to nothing to help them when they thought their husband/father was going to kill them it makes even more sense that he got such a light sentence. If all of that stuff is true then they were probably terrified and thought they had no one to help them.
@@kinley.-. I don't know if it true or not, but I have actually read a article on this case that said according to autopsy report, the father's body was severely mutilated. Not only that but his genital were also mutilated. If we go by this article then it doesn't seem like a self defence and more like a murder.

@pradeepvenugopal5717 do you pay her bills? Do you watch her kids? Let her raise her kids how she wants. This is better than whatever is on the TV and radio now.
I’m sure they considered the father’s strange behavior. if he wasn’t doing things behind his family’s back he would’ve never found himself n that situation. Kid should’ve got off clean considering his father was a shady scum bag
I mean the father was basically acting like he was going to kill them (or at least involved with something dangerous) and being hella shady. Mitigating factors. Is it right? I dunno, I'm no judge. But that's likely why it's so short.
But their proof is still a conspiracy to murder them and the dad technically did not even attempt to murder them so the son had no right to murder his dad. The story that his dad ran to his room and stared at a wrench is an alleged story and actually looking at the wrench doesn't even mean dad will use it to kill his son! His son could've just knocked him out and disabled him with his bigger frame, but per the story he hit him repeatedly into a bloody mess which was unnecessary.
@@kreamsupreme2935 How does the dad beeing a "shady scumbag" justify the murder? Do you consider beeing beaten to death the appropriate punishment for trying to start over with another woman? Because thats all he actually did, everything else was either just in the sons and mothers head or more likely, later made up for justification. The father even wanted to leave his old family money and the children were already growen up adults so really he just wanted to leave his old wife for another one. Grabbing a pipe wrench from another room to beat someone into a bloody pulp while he is sitting motionless on a bed doesnt sound like self defense either, does it? So why exactly do you think the kid should get away with murder?
They tried to contact the police at first like we heard in the story, the cops dismissed it and the way the story was folding, in their perspective, it was just matter of time before their father could kill them. Kind of makes sense of what they had to do
I’ve written a lot on conflict, confrontation, and physical violence, and this case perfectly illustrates what happens when someone ignores my #1 rule: Stay Calm. When he went to his father’s house, he had two big advantages: size and youth. He would easily win a fair fight but he panicked and got scared. Had he stayed calm he could have simply stood in the bathroom doorway forcing his father to physically fight him to get thru, something I’ve already said wouldn’t go his way. He also assumed the worse throughout the situation and this impaired his ability to think critically. I’ve said often that if someone truly wants to hurt/kill you, they’re going to do it quickly. Sitting on his bed staring off into the distance isn’t the behavior of a guy about to kill his son. His fear caused him to imagine the worst and create this imaginary scenario in his mind even though there were no signs that any of it was imminent. His attack was purely out of fear of a situation that only existed in his own mind. Had he stayed calm, he could have simply moved in front of his father’s line of sight into the doorway of the bathroom. He then could have spoken to his father who was not behaving like a man about to commit murder, but was behaving like a man who was conflicted and deep in thought. In all likelihood, the father was debating telling him his plan but considering the consequences of involving him (essentially making him part of a conspiracy to defraud the insurance company). But we’ll never know what he was going to do because Parks impulsively attacked him due to fear and a lack of communication. This is exactly why I always tell people that even in the most dangerous situations, staying calm often means the difference between life and death. Except in this story, his inability to stay calm didn’t cost him his life, it cost his father his.
@TheProfessorExplains This is all on the presumption that their account is true. I believe that momma and son concocted this entire narrative as a defence.
@@frankincense3518 I also think the mom had more of a roll to play in it I think she caught her husband in an affair again and jumped to conclusions and or stewed on it then pushed her son to do the deed by twisting the facts or what she thought were the facts whether she knew the truth or not she had made up her mind and had her son all cranked up for confrontation then walked in to the house with a hair trigger so to speak.Either way they got way less than they deserved...
it pretty much cost him his life too. 3 years in jail (not enough imo) and for the rest of his life, he's going to struggle to get a job and live a normal life.
I live like 10 minutes from the courthouse where this was at, the father was hit with a baseball bat and stabbed to death with a knife. Nothing was said about life insurance policies. But the father was planning on running away with his mistress to India. He only got 33 months because he said the father was going towards him with a baseball bat and when they were wrestling he was able to take the bat from him. So he worked the self-defense argument and he won.

Whether the father had affairs or not , a son killed his father as a result of a misunderstanding. Parth’s mom played a sinister role . What a terrible way to die …. Both of them should have gotten life but I am sure the judge thought the father was a monster.
@@cdes1776 I donno, the "big picture" might even be that they realized that THEY could get the insurance money from the dads life insurance. But I guess you don't get the life insurance when you're the one that killed him so didn't really work out too well.
33 months for beating the life out of your father when you are not in imminent danger? That's nuts. You said Parth was a lot bigger and stronger than his father. If he truly believed he was going to grab the monkey wrench and attack him, Parth could've easily just grabbed it first and called the cops. And 10 months for conspiracy with your son for killing his father? Absurd!
Honestly I don't think he should have even gotten that. It's like you missed the whole first part of the story where he was having an affair and he had life insurance policies on all of them. They really thought this man was going to kill them and they went to the police but they couldn't do anything because so far he hadn't done anything. The Indian culture does not believe in divorce so I could see him deciding to fake his death instead of trying to divorce. To be honest, he didn’t do anything to his family. He was trying to make sure they were taken care of while he went along and lived his life. Unfortunately his death turned into a real death.
@@Hauntedfrog81 as an indian, its really unfortunate. especially since, a lot of the time, finding a couple in indian culture isn't a personal process, it's something the entire family gets involved in (arranged marriage, yada yada). as a result, there ends up being a lot of pressure to make a marriage work even if the couple have issues being together, simply because they don't want to disappoint their respective families. sometimes, the elders see it as disrespectful to reject a partner since they feel responsible in chosing the partner, and often times the blame goes on the couple for not being able to compromise. in fact, the idea of falling in love with someone doesn't even have a purely positive connotation to many older people in india. they think love is just a result of sexual attraction, and that love can blind people from making logical or rational decisions. this leads to most families rejecting "love marriages" in favor for arranged marriages. slowly, this toxic culture is turning around in india, but it will be a few decades before the idea of divorce isn't seen as a taboo thing to do in india. and obviously, this isn't true for all families in india, it's just a common theme among a majority. but there are obviously hundreds of thousands of families in india that aren't like this.
That is right. Divorce rates in India is extremely low because there is a huge societal pressure to make marriages work and even if someone gathers enough courage to call it off. Indian Divorce laws make it impossible for men to take a divorce if the wife doesn’t agree. If women want a divorce the whole process takes atleast 4-5 painful and expensive years, not everybody can afford that, so they simply choose to stay in bad marriages. Most marriages are dead. I believe the new generation will break this taboo. If Indian divorce laws are relaxed a little bit, there will be floodgates opening of the grey divorces.
As someone that has been deceived in a most devious manner by one of my own parents I got to say it destroys you inside and your mind does not work properly afterwards, you start seeing treason behind every corner, paranoia is the name of the game and some dark thoughts invade your mind; I don't know if Parth actually acted on self defense, was he so altered that his judgement was diminished to the point of an almost animal-like brutality? Or the treason gave him a dark purspose, got rid of any remorse and he acted in cold blood and actually got away with it? As someone that has been in similar even if way milder case I got to say no option can be discarded.
Both mother and son were freaks and that’s why poor man desperately wanted out of the marriage. Divorces are taboo in Indian society and divorce laws in India are such that it is almost impossible for men to get a divorce if wife doesn’t agree, I guess that’s why the poor man went to the extent of faking his own death, he was still thinking enough about his family as to benefit them with insurance money, but freaks murdered him before he could get out. Not even a year in jail, their plan succeeded. Sometimes not all men who cheat are evil.

How are people allowed to take out life insurance policies on others without their consent? That should be illegal.
Absolutely in Texas. I have an agents license.
You’d put Gerber Life out of business if you required a parent to get consent from a baby.

Its weird how people arent alerted about having life insurance put out on them. Like that feels like something someone should be alerted about by life insurance companies.
IIRC it has become illegal now.
For a while, big companies were taking out life insurance on their low-wage employees, the beneficiary being themselves.
if you are over 18 you need to sign off on it - why it can be put on children with nothing is something I will never understand
the sad answer is that these generally never get paid out and the company keeps the premiums, so they continue to write these policies
@@grmpEqweer yup, you need to have an "insurable interest" in the person. this was meant for what it sounds like, bread winner of the family passes away and you have mortgage and kids, okay definitely insurable interest. then it became employees, "I am down an employee" so insurable interest. So, he wrestled the tool away from his father and used it to kill him in self-defense.

You've grown so much and I couldn't be any more happier. God bless you always Mr. Ballen, and thank you for bringing such a unique touch to the stories you tell.
I mean, this all seems a bit sketchy:
- The son knew he had the physical advantage.
I agree
Hundred percent.
Yes

It sounds like this mother and son concocted the most amazing defense for premeditated murder in judicial history.

@@KizzleCakes-cq4it I think you're 100% right abt that. Arun might have tried to explain things even without Parth holding the wrench. It seems like Parth & his mom built each up to get paranoid asf. Scandalous.

When you add the fact that the police did next to nothing to help them when they thought their husband/father was going to kill them it makes even more sense that he got such a light sentence. If all of that stuff is true then they were probably terrified and thought they had no one to help them.

What i like about your channel its actually a real story, a lot of channels I've watched are just making things up
I’ve written a lot on conflict, confrontation, and physical violence, and this case perfectly illustrates what happens when someone ignores my #1 rule: Stay Calm.
Lack of communication literally killed him.

But you lose me with the self defense claim once he stabs him. That means he stopped with the bat and went and got a knife.
makes no sense, was this in canada? lol
@@LovenEverythingNails maybe bc the bat wasn’t getting the job done, so he had to finish him off?

Whether the father had affairs or not , a son killed his father as a result of a misunderstanding. Parth’s mom played a sinister role . What a terrible way to die …. Both of them should have gotten life but I am sure the judge thought the father was a monster.
Murdered his father, caused a 4 year investigation and he only charged with man slaughter and sentenced to less than 3 years…
Circumstances had a lot to do with it.

I know, that was kind of a harsh punishment.
Maybe cause he claimed self defense. He and the mom said they thought the father was going to go for.the weapon
33 months for murder???... that's not even close to justice smh..
BIG picture, sir. Big Picture.
@@cdes1776 I donno, the "big picture" might even be that they realized that THEY could get the insurance money from the dads life insurance. But I guess you don't get the life insurance when you're the one that killed him so didn't really work out too well.
I blame the cops for not taking the issue when it was first brought to their attention😢
Rules for thee not for me
It'd be more, if he was white.
It was like the police told them to wait until he kills you or tries to kill you or turn in the life insurance policies before you can do something.

Its so shocing to see that a father can just do that so easily when he have known his family for so long time
The Indian culture does not believe in divorce so I could see him deciding to fake his death instead of trying to divorce. To be honest, he didn’t do anything to his family. He was trying to make sure they were taken care of while he went along and lived his life. Unfortunately his death turned into a real death.
@@Hauntedfrog81 karma
2:50 [Part and Part Two]
As someone that has been deceived in a most devious manner by one of my own parents I got to say it destroys you inside and your mind does not work properly afterwards, you start seeing treason behind every corner, paranoia is the name of the game and some dark thoughts invade your mind; I don't know if Parth actually acted on self defense, was he so altered that his judgement was diminished to the point of an almost animal-like brutality?

Either way, grabbing it escalates the situation as the kid has now become the perpetrator and the dad has a very valid concern for his own safety.
If the tools alone was a concern for the kid and his moms safety they should have closed the bathroom door to secure the tools and stand guard.
