Hi Lisa! I just discovered your channel a few days ago while looking for videos on leather totes. I bought a Madewell Transport Satchel in early 2017. I don’t think they carry it any longer. It’s a phenomenal bag and I can’t say enough good things about it. I’m really loving the Transport tote now just from watching your videos. I guess I’m a lot like you in that I enjoy finding pre-loved bags that are already broken in and have developed a nice patina. They are hard to find though because no one ever wants to part with them! Your AMP bag is gorgeous and how sweet the original owner was willing to sell it. I need to find one like that for myself! 😊

I really like ur take in bag personality when it comes to showing of wear with stains and all. I love madewell bags. One of my madewell bag is kinda stiff so I'm trying to wear it as much as possible so it gets soft over time.
Aww, I'm glad you like my view of stains and scratches! I've found that coating a bag lightly in Leather Honey will soften it. A little bit goes a long way, so don't use much! You also have to be willing to accept the possibility that it might darken slightly. On these upcoming warm and humid days, it'd be a great idea for you to "massage" your bag by squishing it into various different positions, each time you put it down. I think that this method, over time, will help soften it!
Great question! I choose not to waterproof my bags because I don't want to put any product on my leather! Many people would disagree with me. I carry a trash bag in my bag when I go out in case I get caught in a rain storm. It all depends on what your comfort level is!

Candi Bean Great question! I've never had the straps discolor my clothing but my black Tote did rub some black onto my yellow shorts. Thankfully it all came out in the wash. :)

Loved your video! Are these bags heavy before putting items in? I have fibromyalgia and cannot carry heavy bags on my shoulder. Also is the strap long enough to have a winter coat underneath it? Thanks. Great video!!!
Thanks so much for your comment!! I would say that no, the standard tote without any hardware is not heavy. But the medium transport tote might do better for you because it has a crossbody strap that's detachable. With the extra strap, hardware, and the front pocket leather, you've got more weight, though. Do you have a local Madewell store that you could go into and try one on?

Both are called English Saddle but they are from different years, I would imagine. You'll definitely find a Madewell store in Chicago; I'm sure of it! If you like the darker brown handles but can't find a two-tone bag, here's a hack: just polish the straps with dark brown shoe polish. Do little bits at a time, and very gradually, being especially careful around the area where the straps touch the bag. Over the course of several applications, I bet you'll get the look you want! Just be cautious initially when you wear the straps over light-colored fabrics, as I wouldn't want the polish to leave any marks on you! It's not the best thing to do for the leather, but it might help you achieve the look you're looking for!

Do you ever have issues with color transfer on the inside of your bag with the raw suede? I ask because I had black tote that was not by made well and the black dye rubbed off on all of my stuff. I am interested in these bags, so if you could advise me, it would be so helpful. Thanks.
Hi Lisa! I recently purchased 2 madewell tote. I see that your totes are a bit shinier than mine, do you apply leather honey to all of them when u get them new? Or is there one that u didn't apply leather honey? Will it get shinier with some use?
Hi, Louisa! Congratulations on your purchases! No, I don't typically put Leather Honey on my bags unless I feel it is absolutely necessary. I honestly think the shininess varies from bag to bag! Some of their newer bags have a slight wax finish to them. Right now I'm uploading a video about how to care for your leather Madewell bag, so please check back to my channel to see it tomorrow! I talk specifically about wax and why I'm not a big fan of that.
For the longest, I said 'Madwell' so that's a bit strange to hear what theyre actually called. I ordered a red medium tote off of Poshmark Friday and it should be shipping today. I've been trying to find the red one but can't anywhere. I plan to use it for my Everyday work tote. It's so cool how you have stories for yours
