The Wild Bill Davis Jazz Organ Trio was booked to the exclusive Jaylin´s Nightclub of the Hotel Schweizerhof in Berne, Switzerland from August 28 to September 11, 1980. My great friend, mentor and teacher, Jazz-organ pioneer Wild Bill Davis (William Strethen-Davis) used my Hammond C3 organ with Leslie 122 speaker. He also had ordered my organ before he came over for a couple of European concerts. In the late 1970´s when I started my own career as a Jazz-organist the Hammond sound became more and more unfashionable. A lot of prominent Jazz-organists gave up or switched to electric pianos and synthesizers. Fortunately not Jazz-organ pioneer Wild Bill Davis. Portable VHS video equipment (camera & extra tape recorder) was rare and expensive in 1980. Top quality lenses were not available for amateur video cameras in these days. Unfortunately no extra stage lighting was allowed by the hotel management at the dark Jaylin´s Nightclub. I did my best to restore the material. Sorry for the poor image quality. However, it is a rare document of Jazz-organ history. Another unsung hero is featured in this trailer: the inimitable electric-guitar pioneer Floyd Smith! Enjoy & share!
