- A bit of footage from our holiday trip from Denmark through Germany, Poland, Lithaunia, Latvia, Russia, Finland and Sweden.
Not hardcore off-road, but a lot more fun than driving on pavement all the way. - bear in mind that this is 3500 kg of motorhome with a kitchensink, not a trailrig ;-)
And yes, maybe it was possible to drive out when we got stuck in the Russian woods, but as we have a winch, we'd rather use it - it doesen't happen too often :-D

After so many years. this vehicle model is still one of the very best real offroadcars.

I remember one time a few years ago me and my dad went offroading in his 07 FJ Cruiser & we got stuck in a deep snow patch & there was nowhere to hook the winch up to pull us out. Thankfully another offroader in a pickup truck wasn't too far behind us & lent us his shovel to help dig us out. Winches don't always help but they do come in handy.

Well I've seen a supposedly 3,5ton vw lt45 loaded tons over its "limit", bear in mind it is as name suggests 4,5ton design anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as the vehicle can safely carry it, it's not like even lorries get weighed every day (they should be checked more often though) Just put the bike on, you can always remove it if being asked to.

We both drive 2 wheel offroad too, and it actually was our initial plan to stick a dirtbike on the back, but we found out that we would cross the weightlimit :-(

Thanks for the great share! How do you compare the Volvo TGB13 with a similar Pinzgauer, 718K for example. They seems very similar to me in size and capacity.

A very cool rig you have and it hauls the kitchen sink in style. How much of your trip was on highways vs. trails? I like the volvo 6x6 it looks very capable. I didn't think you were going to make it through some of the deep mud, but it went nicely.

Nice truck. wonder what it takes to get one here in the states. I'm in the market for a nice RV thats not too big, that can go almost anywhere & can be parked pretty much anywhere within legal limits. Volvos are pretty reliable from what I'm told & safe to. What kind of MPG do you get out of it & whats the top speed?
spacemonkey: I know that there are a few of them in the states, but it might be easier to find one in Sweden and import it yourself..?
we average about 12L/100km or 8 km/l, I think that's okay :-)
top speed is 100, but due to the low gearing it's at 5200 rpm! so reasonable cruising speed is about 75 kmh...
Awesome vehicle never heard or see it before this post. I would like to know what's the milage like. Is it a surplus military vehicle or commercial?

Actually not, it has been very reliable, mostly minor problems like broken wires, fuses and a few bolts🙂
That truck makes some of the "roads" look easy compared to big mouth stock comments would find out if they tried.

Exactly. These types of units are amazing, just as long as they keep on rolling and don't require some roadside assistance where the rubber meets the road or under the bonnet to keep them ponies moving or other stuff that can bring you to a grinding halt.
Having said that, what an amazing machine. And the sound of that motor is music to my ears.
That I6 Volvo B30 is immortal... And it loves gas and has the sweetest sound.

it's fairly simple and the parts are a lot lighter than for trucks/semis :-) a complete wheel weighs 56kg so I can actually lift the spare on to the back myself :-) its not bigger than a Land Rover 130 :-)

Jhon Joffre '88 i think, 6 cylinder without turbo, slow as a turtle, but rock solid 🙂 last year we drove to Africa, it used 0,5l oil in 15.500km and i think the engine has run over 500.000 in total 😎
Raredog depends of the year, due is a MB I might able to give you something that you gonna love. (Quick reference I am an overlander as you but I wheel on a Jeep) anyway, I work for a company that sponsor some vehicles like yours.
And I think I can manage for they send you a brand new ECM with an special tuned software that will increase dramatically your fuel mileage, HP and trq. The only thing you would have to do is add the stickers on the sides of your rig. (It’s not final, but if you are interested let me know)
Jhon Joffre that sounds really nice of you, but this one is too old to have any kind of ecm, so i think we are stuck with the 113hp 🙂 its from a Mercedes 300d w124

Nice rig... I don't think you would ever need to use that winch strapped on the front!
actually we also thought that before we bought it, but this winter in Spain we ended in a ditch in a snowstorm - and we were glad to have it :-)

For a camper conversion, I would personally look at those C304's with a box on the back. Ex-ambulances or radio-stations I believe. But the practical thing of this model is that you have direct contact with the living space.
René Gerritsen i would like an M35A2 it has a 14 foot bed or mobile command center in that space you can set up a bunk bed a wood stove and a sink also can carry enough onboard power to run A/C its being a 6x6 with tandem dually axles and an engine that will run off almost all combustible liquid is just a bonus
