I got in a road range incident with one of these during a blizzard he claimed he was an emergency (volunteer) vehicle and me returning from work I was violating law. He blocked the road and wouldn’t let me pass Later I saw it on sale on Craigslist and arranged a half dozen meetings to waste his time saying I would buy it with different emails.
My dad was a Jagdkommando in the mid 80’s, he absolutely loved these vehicles. He said that these and the Unimogs would go where any other vehicle couldn’t.
Yeah these things are wild. They beat any US "Overlander" on any metric except top speed. Every time I see these expensive modded pickups I think of these and have a good chuckle... The Volvo c303 and c304 are kinda similar in that regard. Before the "off-road" internet hype you could pick any of these up for a lot less. Like A LOT less. Many militaries sold these off en Masse and they came cheap. Just like Unimogs and Halflingers. Even bv206s. 5k, 10k, not much more than that. They couldn't get rid of them fast enough. Yeah well, these times are gone for good...
They are great. I´m from Graz. Years ago i´ve been with a Pinzgauer on the Schöckl-Test-Trail - together with G-Class und VW Syncro Transporter - The Pinzgauer was absolut amazing - 6x6, Turbodiesel. Automatic Transmission - - a gigant an the hill
Loving the eclectic mix of vehicles you've had so far! My favourite is still the Sambar. Would be good to see the links to these guys TH-cam and dealership in the description
Very nice report - the company to which the Pinzgauer assembly line and tools were relocated in 2000 was called ATL (Automotive Technik Limited). A private company in the UK. Main variants were a amphibious Pinzgauer for the Royal Marines and an off-road ambulance Pinzgauer for the Royal Airforce …. some of these Ambulances can be seen in the Ukraine today …. one of the last vehicles before CAD/CAM was used 😊
James: "Hey, check out my other addiction!" Me: "Great, like I need to add to my firearm addiction (then I sit down to calculate the number of briefs I need to write to make enough money for a new addiction)."
I wonder how much one of the hard top models would cost? I have to be able to transport 3 wheelchairs and something like that looks like it would fit the bill.
In commenting before even watching the video. Been wanting a Pinz for years. Not cheap in the States if in remotely decent condition. If you’re going to buy one check out the 4 wheeled ( not 6 ) version of the radio truck It’s by far the sexiest unless you want that open canvas top.
Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in the back of a Steyr 6×6 on the bare floor in winter ❄️ steam was everywhere in the exotic overland cruiser , he didn't even cry 😭 he was amazed ..... At the incredible Austrian features
James if you’re ever in So Cal and want to see what a 712M is really capable of, my Tortuga will take you places most off-roaders would never dream of… especially at night, since it’s equipped with IR lights for driving under NODS in blackout mode 🟢👄🟢
i made that same mistake, thinking a great off-road vehicle must make a geat overlander. (mine was an Unimog.) however this is not true. the best overlander ,travel vehicle, is the most reliable vehicle. and also its a great advantage if its common, well known, parts easily available. (for an american, my guess would be the dodge cummins pickup, early models.)
As a kid in the ‘80s, I remember reading a blurb in ‘auto revue’ (the major Austrian car magazine of the the time, which, unlike its straight laced, just the facts-type German counterparts, had a highly irreverent style of writing on pretty much everything) about Steyr doing a serious study about bringing the Pinzgauer to the US as a sort of lux’d out go-anywhere vehicle. This was about 15-20 years before that fate befell the Mercedes/Puch Geländewagen (the G-Wagens of that era were relatively spartan affairs, with a smattering of W123 parts bin interior pieces and the ability to humiliate any and all Jeep product of that age. Then they went Hollywood…sigh) and the blurb noted that the initiative was ultimately abandoned, presumably because the Americans wouldn’t have much interest in car whose name they couldn’t pronounce. The title of the blurb was ‚What is a Pinsgower?‘…😊
It was really cool to film the Video with you guys ! Looking forward for your next visit in Austria 👍🏼🇦🇹

Hey James, I just got your new channel recommended, great to see you in Austria so often. Welcome!

@@Jimportsthe term is “face for radio”
This new channel is the shit I love import guns and vehicles.
Awesomesauce.

Martin rocking that Stone Island Jacket 🔥🔥🔥
Also famously in the intro of yugoslav turbofolk warcrime jam "Roki Vulovic - Kapetane Lazicu"
Keep'um Coming Chief
2:40 and all I hear is Jeremy Clarkson saying, "IT ISN'T MILITARY! It's for clearances and saving lives- Princess Diana had one of these..."
The armored version along with the Land Rover Snatch are my dream apocalypse vehicules.
I wonder how much one of the hard top models would cost? I have to be able to transport 3 wheelchairs and something like that looks like it would fit the bill.
I put Bernhard's contact info in the description. Give him a shout. SUPER nice dude.

These were in Jurassic world.
At overland expo a few years ago, people were comparing the 714 and Volvo Valp as near equals.
Oh sick, I didn't know that.
No that was a 712 pinz 😊
Thank you for the car content James.
Now THIS is a good zombie apocalypse vehicle. Adding to my Christmas list.
Dear Santa, please buy Hop and Assfacts a Pinz for Christmas. They have been the goodest of boiz. 🎄🎅🏻
The put another shrimp on the barbie crack was too funny
A collab with tj hunt would be cool, he’s has an amazing car collection and is also a big gun guy
Arnold… my 2nd most favorite Austrian.
Ive wanted one these since i saw one driving around prescott AZ with 6 AKs mounted in the back hahaha

Ryan sent me
My hetero lifemate?
@ the very same one!
"The police have themselves an RV!"
Ohhh! The quarterback is toast!!
"If this Pinzgauer's rockin', don't come knockin'" is kinda catchy. On the other hand, I don't see anywhere to mount a .50 cal.
Cut a hole in the plastic-window: et voila
There is a version of it that can mount .50s and GMGs, the NZ Amry has about 60 of them in service both armoured and not.
Shoutout to Martin from Austria Arms🦅
More rental reviews coming our way
Damn James! Is there anything you don’t do?
Hi...its designed by Erich Ledwinka , son of Hans Ledwinka who was the designer and inventer of Tatra .
My favorite car in Far Cry 2
no Haflinger there 4 you ? its the smaler funny version
Is it the Toyota troopy with a mattress in the back?
1:10 dumb and dumber reference? Bold.
80s movie line and meme joke for decades... you must be under 35
James! You do realize that Austria and Australia are two different places, right?!
The idea behind two oil pumps and carbs on the original version is that the engine must be able to operate normaly at any angle, even upside down.
Arnold "F&^k Your Freedom" Schwarzenegger(kinda fits, being from the home of the evil mustache guy...)
Based
A few years ago, I almost bought a 4x4 Pinz from a Military junkyard in Serbia but I bought an old motorcycle? That is my big mistake!

I could tell those headlights were from a harley
Not larger, only wider tires 🙂
Alvis stalwart has to the the ak47 adjective
Is this a real James Reeves channel?
Haha, yes it is. I am actually a kind of weird car guy. Not like supercars and luxury cars, just cool shit like this.
Needs a hard too
Austria is also famous for painters, why didn't you mention that?
There are E-Versions of about 70.000€
You forgot the two most interesting things to come out of Austria .. Roth-Steyr 1907 and Adolph Hitler
Austria, not Australia so what’s all this shrimp On a bbq bullshit
The only thing holding me back is the lack of parts availability in the states.
