    I must say I enjoy testing these small 1/18th scale 4WD High Speed models from WLToys. They are really too fast for their own good but great fun anyway. Even though I didn't really manage to get this Monster Truck version up to it's maximum top speed (which of course is a fun goal on it's first test run) since the light weight, large wheels and ground clearence makes it very prone to flipping over, I think the acceleration and managable speed between 1-50 kmph can provide tons of fun.
    The conclusion is: 1) Don't expect to be able to run it, out-of-the-box, on tarmac with speeds above 50 kmph, since it will be quite hard to control and most likely flip over. I'm not even sure if it actually can run 70 kmph/43 mph (speed test coming up!). 2) Don't even expect too much control when reaching speeds around 30-50 kmph.
    On the other hand: Expect an exceptionally fast model that is fun to bash around with and, in my opinion, seems quite durable and looks very very cool. It has some very nice and modern features compared to the price: Double wishbone suspension, metal drive shafts, polycarbonate body, 2.4 GHz, an included 2S LiPo Battery and more.
    Next up is a comparison and GPS speed test competition of the WLToys A979-B (Monster Truck version) and the WLToys A959-B (Buggy Version)! Subscribe and hit the notification bell to stay tuned!

      Yeah. Of the 5 i have, 4 are buggies. All brushless swapped. The speed runner is basically all aluminum and carbon upgraded, which definitely helps keeping it planted on the ground, and as well as modified shocks with shorter springs that have higher rebound rate, keeps the chassis and all 4 control arms level and low to the ground. So controlling it not difficult. Also extended axles on all 4 or just the rear (i have them both ways) eliminates the tumbles at high speed, by adding a solid 2 inches on width

    Looks like a tough little truck - and it needs to be with that much power on-tap! I gotta say I like this one, looks like a lot of fun and pretty well made - I think I would keep to the grass and dirt to protect it a little on the tumbles though :-)

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amazingly it is doing very well, and itøs even taken a bit more tumbles off camera. Quite durable. I think I prefer the buggy version though. Just as quick but a bit more manageble with small wheels/tires and lower center of gravity. Thansk for watching, Mark. Hope I have time to watch your new Rising Fighter video before bed time :-)

    Can you let me know if the throttle trim on your remote has any affect on the tuning of the speed control. I swear I've maxed it out in either direction and I can not tell the difference. Perhaps mine is faulty but pressing the buttons doesn't make the car start to go or backing it off doesn't create more braking. It does nothing.

    • @modderfukker
      @modderfukker 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine does the same.. heard this alot ...it just beeps ..either way, no speed difference

    • @JPSkriP
      @JPSkriP 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay adjusting the throttle trim will not give it any more top speed or braking force than it already has at either full throttle or full brake when applied. The trim is just the neutral point adjustment between the reverse/brake and forward. Or rather how close the engagement point is for either forward or reverse when pulling on the trigger. U can set it to either engage at a hair sensitive when pulling the trigger or give yourself more dead spot or play room on the trigger to not be as sensitive, and allow u to pull the trigger maybe around 2 or 3mm down before engages the function. Now whichever direction the trim is towards, that direction will get more sensitive to response and opposite for the other direction.
      Have to upgrade all the electronics If your wanting the ability to set start and end points of the the throttle and reverse throw. Or exponentials, ABS braking pulses, steering exponentials and rates with limits,.. you need to upgrade to an better feature rich transmitter and receiver set, as well as the esc and servo, as the wltoys one is a combo esc and receiver in one, while hobby grade are seperate components, RX, Esc, Servo, All seperate. These factory combo units they come with 5 wire servos, and hobby grade servos are all 3 wire servos. .
      My suggestion for a budget friendly but quality and feature rich transmitter /rx kit, would be either a FlySky FS-GT3B or GT3C, whichever is in ur budget, both are great, one is slightly newer with a slim rechargeable battery pack and other takes 8 AA's. But requires a quick part mod to make the batteries last for months!! A simple mosfet desolder and resolder. Plenty of tutorial videos exist. And the also has a firmware flash mod to unlock and gain tons of new features along with a 80 car model memory. Retains every setting per vehicle u setup. Out of all my transmitters, my GT3B has been my goto. If you dont want to deal with modding and what not, the FS-GT3C is the one to go for.

    I made the mistake in assuming the shocks where friction type shocks as well at first, as it was sooooo bouncy. And then as i removes one to toss on some oil filled ones, i noticed the cap was loose, and i unscrewed it, and they are actually oil filled shocks, just no oil in them. Ive bought 5 or 6 of these now, and they all come like that. Either they dont put oil in them, due to international transport of the products and either regulations or to avoid leakage from sitting in shipping containers and storage for indefinite time. Ive only noticed this with the plastic bodied shocks that come with the 959-A/B/979-A/B buggy and trucks, the other WLtoys have full metal bodied shocks, all arrive with oil in them. And surprising these shocks perform pretty well.
    But definitely anyone that gets one, pull the shocks off, and fill them up with 70wt or 80wt shock oil. Do compete bleed cycles by filling about 3/4ths up, and then actuate the shocks up and down handfuls, and then let them sit upright for some time to get all the bubbles out. Then fill up rest and cap them off. Alternate method, i tend to do many times, before filling oil into main shock body, flip bottom side up (if shock has removable bottom cap, and push rod quarter of the way, and fill some oil in, cap it and then proceed filling it up the norm way. Just saves the time needed to bleed by prefilling and pushing out air. same time a chance to apply some shock rod washer grease.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah. Good tips for all of us. I actually also got an old video where I put oil in one of mine.

    • @JPSkriP
      @JPSkriP 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NordicRC Noice!!, Yeah i was blown away at the fact of how many people have just replaced the shocks without investigating a little more. Some they just leave the shocks on there and never realize it needs oil, and they run them, and all result in 10 to 20 rollovers after doing speed runs, cuzz dampening doesnt exist as they go sideways when coming to a sudden stop. Lol.

      I'm pretty sure it's friction shocks. They just got a shock body filled with grease I think, for what I've seen. But I know, I've seen some folks that clean the grease out and fills it with oil. Maybe it works. Hope it doesn't leak.

    • @philthyco1
      @philthyco1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No,they are oil filled with an o-ring and rubber cap seal..unless they stopped using oil recently?..open up the shock cap and look.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, i've seen some videos with people opening them up. Maybe it could be fun to try it out myself :-) I just meant if they where going to leak in the long run. They are certainly sold as friction shocks. I've not seen any unboxings where the shocks work as oil filled shocks. In the videos I've seen with people opening up the shocks, I'm pretty sure it's grease (and not old oil as people claim it to be) they are filled with. I've had 30 year old shocks opened for the first time with better oil and more oil in them than these :-) I'm pretty sure WLtoys or the dealers has not had them on the shelf for a very long time.

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm telling you because i've owned a few of these and the shocks come oil filled with seals and o-rings..but the caps are not tight from factory so most if not all the oil is gone..it takes a few seconds to open the top cap and fill it up.

    How many hours is the charging time?

    • @NordicRC
      @NordicRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually around 2 hours I think, with the stock charger (which I never use).

    Mein Sohn ist sehr begeistert von dem DingLong WL Toys A979-B - schneller RC Monstertruck amzn.to/2RQ9nmQ und für Rund 89 Euro ein echtes Schnäppchen.

    Yea these little beasts don't handle well at higher speeds lol

      Fun crazy cars still :-) I think the A959-B is more controllable, with the small wheels/tires and lower ground clearence. What is your experience?

    • @VoidXRC
      @VoidXRC 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fairly controllable until half throttle and then you need to be in a straight line pretty much lol. Since I have done the all metal driveline and big brushless it's probably a little worse than at stock. I do plan on upgrading the tires to something better and that should help.

      Just had a spin with my A959-B. It certainly is more controllable than the A979-B. I remember your upgrade. Pretty cool looking. Hope you'll have better grip with the new tires.

      Ha ha, yeah, it's so weird ... and funny. It's on the A959-B too. Maybe it's a cool word in Chineese :-)
