- First look, first run ... and first troubles! Classics by now, but ever since I put the WLToys A979-B to a test I've wanted to try out these two more sensible versions! So here they are: Blue vs Black ... 2 x brand new and affordable 'Under 100' WLToys A979 1/18 4WD High Speed RC Cars unboxed and on their Maiden Run!

Love the Wltoys A979B all are the same setup the fast for their size
I like the standard editions like these a bit better. But the B-versions are definitely crazy fast. I had an A979-B once. Fun 🙂

I have an a979b, but I put on the a979 black and red body. Now everybody thinks it's an a979! 😂

I do like these little trucks, they look fantastic blasting around in the sand and grass. Pity about the tiny stone, but I suppose it is inevitable at some point. I had a similar problem with my Honda Civic FF-03, ruined the spur and pinion! A very good weekend to you my friend! :)
Yeah, I love making videos with these. Usually I have a blast throwing them around (having fun and no possibilities for a Tamiya to be ruined). Yeah. Heard others have the same problem. Uhh, usually Tamiya is very good dealing the gear boxes? Apart from sand and dirt getting in I’ve never had a Tamiya with a stone inside. Well, luckily a spur/pinion is always an easy fix - unless it’s one of those crazy designs like a DF-02. Hope it was easy for you. Have a great weekend, Mark, my good friend.
@@NordicRC Thanks mate - it was an easy fix - the motor is mounted at the front just like the XV01, and the dust cover is a very loose fit against the metal motor plate, bad design for a higher level Tamiya kit. It's supposed to be easy to remove for quick gearing changes. I should have taped it up like I advised others to do in the build video!!! Also broke the servo with gravel jamming the steering mechanism , you'll see it in the next speed run video! Cheers, pal. :)
Uhh, lot’s of repair time for you 😶 Ahh, yeah, now I remember. Those types. Same issue with my DF-03’s. I haven’t sealed those up too. I will probably regret it some day too.

Only thing u can do is put a 3s battery in it will b ed alot faster but I thing its fast what it got now

Thanks for the review if I didn't know that the black one is usb and the blue one had that charger you use in the the uk I would of got the blue one and end up not being able to charge it unless my mom buys an adapter Which will never happen
Hi Gideon. I think it’s pure coincidence. A matter of production batches, where the color of the body doesn’t really matter. I’ve also learned that some of the B-versions come with metal gears, and some not. So I think it’s safe to say that one doesn’t know what one gets when buying these 😅

a979 Is the gear easy to swipe?
Your 2 trucks are 540 motors the original one came with a 550 motor it's larger in size an didn't have a heat shield
Nope. These are 390 motors. Standard on the original 979. Late came the 979-B.

I had ticking noise also wth my a959 b, it's just a little piece of the brass gaer stuck in the plastic spur gear. Just takt the gear out and than just remove all stuf stuck inside the plastick gear, than problem should be solved
Yeah, I will definitely investigate it before changing it. Usually I degrease and clean the gears before throwing anything out. Will be interesting to see if you are right ☺️

does it matter if you buy it from Canada or us also does color matter thanks
Color doesn’t matter. Same truck. But there are versions around with or without metal center drive shafts, regardless of color. Not sure about Canada or US. I’m not selling them.
Does it have proportional/percision control? I don't want to wheelie and crash this rc.

Are these only good off-road what about indoors ?
You need a lot of indoor space or good throttle control to make them work indoors. They go about 40 kph.

Can you turn the speed down on the A979 as was wondering whether a seven year old could handle it with a lower speed?
Hi! No, not with these. But the A-version has a lower voltage battery and a throttle EPA, so you can turn down the top speed. You can check out the A959-A in my channel. An A979-A is also available.
That not correct there's two buttons for speed pressing the top one till beeps stop lowers the speed , the (A) version comes with the 550 motor an are lot harder to handle ; I've both !

Yeah, I like them personally. They are fun out of the box I think. Got an upgrade series on my channel for the A959 (same chassis) that didn’t end well 😅

Some like the crazy speed better. I like the standard editions better. Still fast, more run time, more control, less motor heat.
