    I bought my first RC car yesterday, its a Rustler 4x4 Vlx, and i added a light kit and i also added a wheelie bar to keep the car on the ground more because it has alot power and it has a jump start. This video was really helpful and i hope to apply these upgrades on my car later. Its runs 115 kmh so im good for now!

    3:15 - Wait what??? Increasing gearing increases speed?? I think is the other way around. In fact, as you increase the number of teeth, you increase your torque and gain some acceleration but you will loose top speed. But if you reduce number of teeth, you will have a much higher top speed, but a horrible acceleration as your torque will considerally decrease

    One note I should add is it is more the voltage produced by the battery pack that will give an increase in speed. The reason I'm saying this is because if you are used to running an 8.4 volt Nihm battery and think you will get more speed from a comparable mAh 2 cell lipo, your RC will be slower due to the drop in voltage.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lane that's a good point, and as an electronic engineer I should've pointed that out. Case in question a lot of the 'stock' traxxas cars go faster on the inc Nimh than they do on a 2S pack. Volts equals speed for sure!

    • @user-dz2jv4in5z
      @user-dz2jv4in5z 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A fully charged 2s LiPo is 8.44v. And a NiMH will drop voltage dramatically so it's definitely slower to run a NiMH.

    Would putting bigger wheels on your car make it faster?

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes BUT it will also put a lot of strain on the motor which will draw more current and hence the ESC will run hotter as will the motor. Do it for long and you'll fry one or the other. That's why it's not listed here! Hope that helps!

    Can you convert a model car into a RC?

    • @DriftomaniacsRC

      just about anything can be done. Looking at a good scale car to convert to an RC? Bigger is better as it's easier to work on, but if you've a small model in mind to convert then you can buy 1/24 or 1/16 motors, ingenuity and time is all it takes. What model did you have in mind?

      With bearings you tend to get what you pay for. Even a basic set for a traxxas car will set you back $20. Not sure what you refer to buying for $5 as I wasn't specific in this video. Glad the rest helped though.

    I thought it was bigger pinion = more torque and smaller pinion = more top end?

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No the opposite, small pinion for torque, bigger one for speed. But it's easy to overgear a car and end up with less speed. I've just shot a video highlighting this with 23T fitted to my new erevo.

    • @Derpynewb
      @Derpynewb 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see wot u did there m9. There's two gears. The pinion and the spur. Pinions attached to the motor. Spur is not. Bigger spur means moar powah less top speed. Smaller spur means more top speed but less power.
      You were thinking of spurs.

    Ok... I know I'm late to the party in this but.... what is the best way to make a brushed car go a bit faster than it is straight out of the box?

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not too late at all. A simple gear change is the best way to get more speed, swapping the pinion and the spur gear will give you more top speed although you'll lose a touch of acceleration. The top one after that is fit bearings all round. Any more questions fire away!

    • @mrmedium7984
      @mrmedium7984 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If the car cuts out from hard use, a higher C battery will alleviate the problem. The other benefits is that it will have a higher top speed, acceleration, and a lower battery temp.

    Battery with higher c rating =more speed

    • @DriftomaniacsRC
      @DriftomaniacsRC  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are preaching to the converted (check out my videos on batteries). The higher the C rating the more the chance the pack stands of giving the stated voltage e.g. 3S, when under full load. A lower C rating means instead of giving 11.1V under full load it may only give out 9. Higher C rating may mean it gives out the full 11.1 under full load. I often use the example of regular gas or premium gas, you're car will run on either but give more hp on premium. Thanks for the comment though.

    • @DriftomaniacsRC

      It is a little however there are many great low cost cars out there. I test a few lower cost ones as I realise that not everyone has $200 or 500 to get a new one. A great car at around this price point is the A959 - it cones in various powered options inc 370 motor, 540 motor, and even brushless. All below $70

    • @TrichbeeT
      @TrichbeeT 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let's just say the "cheap" in the RC world is $150-$200 lol. $200-$350 is decent. $400 and up now towards expensive side. However, Cost doesn't correlate with the amount of "Fun" you are getting. I have just as much fun with micro Zip Zaps, compared to my ABC hobby brushless tuned track car that costs me $400 plus.
