I wholeheartedly disagree on the shifting. It's setup for actual aggressive driving. It shifts hard for a reason and if you're driving quick desert trails the transmission is dead nuts. Sport mode on the transmission does incredibly well in conditions like sand dunes so much so that i really can't beat it with manual shifting after 3 years of owning one. You're exactly right on the Talon being better as a desert runner than a Eastern trail machine. CVTs and low gears are hard to beat with that type of driving.
We live in the south, mud, swamp, etc. You can't beat the Honda. It's truly bulletproof. Between me and my friends we have hydro-locked our more times than I can count and they still run perfectly. No belt is simply amazing. One single air intake is fantastic. In the years of ownership we have NEVER been stuck or broke down and we beat the shit out of ours. I can't even tell you how many CanAms and Polaris we have pulled back to camp. I'm not knocking them, I think those rigs are great for Desert and rock crawling. Honda is the top dog in the South. Lastly, go to any independent mechanics shop and ask them what the most reliable SXS is... 9 times out of 10 they will tell you Honda.
I bought a first gen Talon X when they first came out. I think build quality, fit and finish etc were class leading. I really tried to like the Talon, but several things just made it impossible to like for the kind of riding I do. I ended up disliking the Talon for many of the negatives you listed along with several others. Aside from the constant neck snapping up and down shifts, the crazy and touchy throttle, the early versions of the X had rebar stiff suspensions, a tiny instrumintation screen mounted low in the center of the dash that was poorly lit, overly crowded with tiny digets, and nearly useless once it got dusty. The engine/trans made a painfully loud shrieking sound at speed, and the engine air intake being placed in the right rear wheel well meant you get to buy a new $50 air filter after one day of dusty riding. I went back to a RZR and am much happier. I’ve had 3 RZRs and never had an issue with any of them. One thing I do miss about the Talon though is the great decent control with the 6 speed DCT.
It's all cool till the belt disintegrates
@@billmerriwether6359 haven’t had that happen yet and this is my third RZR in 10 years.
@@jeffthornock8671 it's not if it's going to happen it's when
Drove a 22 1000x 4LV on some muddy trails in southern ohio at a rental place to try. loved it. i was impressed how well it absorbed the deep ruts and trail. just came back from sedona on schnebly road and rented another 22 1000x 4LV. it had BF goodrich tires on it and maybe they were inflated because of the street driving but that thing was not nearly as impressive on that terrain as in the mud trails. at one point there was a pro xp4 dynamix that was infront of us. we said boy that thing is walking away from us. we came back a few days later while still in sedona and rented the pro xp4 dynamix and immediately could tell that was the one for us. soft mode took away the sharpness of the hits and would make you want to go faster. the pro xp had the factory tires on it still. i was glad we got to test them because before sedona i was sold on the honda and was waiting to get a 4 seat R model. we will be getting the pro xp dynamix because of the ride and another important part is the 64". not sure how much difference 64-68 is on 64 stated trails are? thanks for the review. these videos help a ton!
The hard shifts really bother me. But I like how you can keep the rpm down unlike an Rmax. (Maybe stands for Revmax) they are 5k rpm just cruising along.
Yep, I have one and why I am considering a Talon. My biggest complaint with the RMAX is insane interior noise because of that constant high RPM.
Love the aggressive shifting out on the dunes!
I just got one , and I do like it but not impressed with the suspension , my previous non live valve R was softer .
Honda is the best
I ADJUSTED MY THROTTLE CABLE TO HAVE NEARLY NO FREE PLAY. IT CURED THE THROTTLE ISSUE..
$23,499 where is that price at? I keep seeing $25,799. Love the video, been waiting for real world feedback! Thank you
Price is 25 not 23
Paid 23k out door in NJ
23' 1000r fox live valve 2 seater $22,100 out the door no sales tax. Friends with owner and mechanic for years.
Worth every penny, I can’t stand a Sxs with a centrifugal clutch. DCT is what makes the honda way better then the can am or rzr!!!!!
I'll take a Honda's reliability over its minor shortcomings any day.
Price is wrong in the video , also doesn’t come with the rear view mirror
Tell it like you see it . I feel the same way about the talon. The engineers missed it on the talon design from the beginning all the way to 2024 model .to bad honda you should listen to your customers. Thanks for the vid great evaluation.
Yes i own a 2021 talon and would not buy one again. I spent so much time and moneyon trying to make things right with this car and it was NOT worth it .
Coult agree more about the dct, I wanted a talon but after riding in several pioneers and talons, you could not give me one as a gift, abrupt head snapping unexpected shifts all day long, honda needs his shoved up their a.. and the dinky tires and short wheelbase, rough suspension. In canada they are very expensive, they start at 30,552 plus freight&pdi&tax for a 2 seater
Love my DCT. Works perfect. Never left in the woods with a broken belt!
I'm on my 8th belt driven machine, never broke a belt in the woods, that being said I run in low all the time and maintain my machine, belts and clutches are junk but I will keep my junk, the reviews about the maverick r dct are impressive. I will hold out for a 4 seat long travel na machine with dct, I have a 22 high lifter 4 with bypass shocks and 32s and its perfect. Smooth as glass.
2024 Yamaha YXZ 1000R. with the lower-geared 6 speed. Starting at $20,899, it can now do everything including low speed rock crawling.
the frame is very weak in the front hit a tree with the tier and bent the frame so get a frame stiffner from super atv
Comparing a Honda to a Polaris is like comparing a Toyota to a Chevy
