Here’s a don’t in iowa: don’t try to steal corn from a random corn field and cook it yourself. 9 times out of 10 it will be feed corn and hard as a rock even when you cook it

@@WoltersWorldEats I've really had to develop a whole new style of cooking, loosely based on Midwestern Casseroles, Soulfood, Louisiana Creole, and Gullah-Geechee traditions, which are in turn augmented by what I've learned working in hotels and restaurants and being married to a Southern Italian, and Frequenting, French, Chinese, Thai, and Spanish people and places. You can see sme of my "fusion" creations. Substitutions were very commonplace for me until I decided to simply start creating, as I often did growing up in the Iowa melting pot.

@@tysonl.taylor-gerstner1558 I understand! When I put out videos on food it is terribly difficult. I never have cooked with a recipe, no real measurements or even a set list of ingredients. My food marriages tend to be Greek, French, Southwest, Southeast, with random things from East Africa, Brasil and Italy thrown in. I think it must be the travelers in us...because that list keeps growing. Btw, I did a lot of work on Daufuskie Isl recording historic Gullah-Geechee buildings. I love the culture and recommend a Daufuskie visit to anyone visiting the Savannah HHI area.

Breaded pork tenderloins are one of the heartiest, tastiest sandwiches you'll ever have, and they are a freaking Iowa institution. One of those and a drink can make a meal for most eaters. Usually, the preferred method of topping one is a great big squirt of yellow mustard and a handful of pickle slices (either dill or bread-and-butter). Ketchup's not really something you put on them (usually it's for the fries if they come with the sandwich), pork usually always gets mustard. Yes, they are as huge as they seem in the picture provided, and they're tasty as long as you get to them while they're still fresh and/or warm and the pork is still juicy.
Maid-Rites... wonderful, tasty, but messy Maid-Rites (it's almost impossible to eat a Maid-Rite without making a mess). Drawing on my time in Iowa, never ever ever EVER put ketchup on a Maid-Rite. I mean, it's just not done because the ketchup kills all the flavors in the sandwich. If you want a squirt of yellow mustard, that's fine. You want cheese sauce on it? They call that a Cheese-Rite, that's great too. But don't douse one in ketchup unless you want to get some funny looks.
3:57 - Yeah... the Mississippi isn't exactly the cleanest river out there (also, if you take a boat ride, wear a helmet because of the asian carp that infest it now).

Best Pizza, hands down is Casey’s Pizza. Just ask Ashton Kutcher! If you want something super special, Check out the Brickhouse in Indianola. They have Sicilian, Chicken Bacon Ranch(the pizza sauce is ranch😍), Chicken SpinArt, Crab Ragoon, and so many more!
Also, another unique food experience is Zombie Burger. Only in Iowa can you get a burger with fried Mac & cheese as a bun!
Scotchroos are made with butterscotch chips. They were originally made with oats and called oatmeal scotchies. The oats were switched with rice crispies.

Could you suggest a place in the Des Moines area for giant tenderloins? I'm FROM Iowa, and I've seen them in videos, but I've never actually seen a huge tenderloin. The normal size ones are good, so I'm sure these are too. May be we're too far northwest. We're only 30 miles from Sioux Falls, SD.

You got the giant Tenderloin but didn't get the footlong chili dog, the miles of Taffy, the delicious carmal or candy coated apples. The kettle corn. The Turkey legs, the amazing food in giant sizes and even bigger calories counts. Lol
