I would defer to Iowa Department of Natural Resources but I can give you my experience. Iowa is middle of the pack on toxic releases in the country. The farming brings in lots of chemicals but overall I think Iowa had really been doing better in this area the last 5-10 years. We test for radon (natural gas in Iowa that poses a health risk) in real estate here as a norm. I have seen many come back high. The water in Iowa is about like most other places in the country. High in chlorine but that’s pretty common in most areas. We drink distilled water in our household and would definitely at the minimum recommend filtration. Where are you currently located?
Been here 30 years and looking to bounce ASAP, the weather here is intolerable, we have 2 seasons now, freezing with 40 mph sustained winds, or 100mph winds on Hell's front porch. We have maybe a month of decent weather a year. It's hell on earth.
Monsanto so sad that it has invaded this beautiful state and contaminated the soil and crops. It's time to go organic ❤ when I went to visit. I loved everything about it . Amazing and friendly people. ❤ Family oriented and conservative a winning combination.
While you are certainly right about Monsanto and factory farming in Iowa, you can still find less offensive operations in our state. I live in beautiful Allamakee county. We do still maintain many small family farms, some are organic. The terrain in the driftless region is gorgeous, and we are strongly Conservative (unlike Iowa's college towns). Thankfully, the state is safely conservative now... we just need to ensure that we don't get complacent with the communists.
It is because of the corn ...and dose gets super humid there horribly humid also the Cydnidae bugs can get really loud and obnoxious in the sumer months ... heads up 😁
I live in CR, your list was really well done. My biggest negatives are Lack of entertainment and the bugs. I think Iowa could get some better entertainment as far as music. I remember when groups like Kiss , Yes , Motley Crue and Rush ( came only once to CR) would perform in CR. Now it's mostly Country music. Remember that concert That the city put on with multiple performers That they lost money on because they didn't sell a lot of tickets ? The people ended up paying for it with taxes. I am not being mean when I say this is, part of the problem is the people in CR are to fickle. You Never know what they are going to support

Iowa is solidly conservative now. I don't blame you as a realtor for underselling that a bit because you don't want to scare away people. But we are a solid red state now: abortion ban, book bans, charter schools, slashing taxes. We're repeating the Kansas experiment and we all know how that went. We may become a swing state again but it's likely to be a decade or longer. If you're fine with that, then Iowa is for you. If not, then you may want to rethink coming here.
Thanks for the reply. My 2 cents on it being solidly conservative also is hard to gauge as the governor and presidential liberal candidates were not strong opponents. When they bring more inspiring candidates then I think it will be easier to gauge
Another thing for people to consider is that, generally speaking, those on the left/blue side of the political spectrum in places like Iowa are much more centrist than the lefties in places like NY or California. So, even when Iowa tends bluer than it is now, it's a more moderate left than in the more populous parts of the country.
@@LIVINGINIOWA I'm just talking about the average liberal in Iowa or other conservative states vs. liberals in states that have been solid blue for decade upon decade. There will always be pockets of deep red and deep blue but the tendency seems to be that there is a moderating effect on the opposite end of the spectrum in states dominated by one party. E.g. conservatives in California are more moderate than conservatives in Wyoming in general. That doesn't mean there aren't hard core conservatives in California but the average conservative is generally a bit more moderate.

Coming from Chicago , they drive really slow here. The reason why they drive so slow here is because of the insane traffic enforcement, its outa control. They have photo enforced speed traps, they have photo enforced red lights, the cops are everywhere and they have days that are dedicated to pulling people over for traffic, and they also regularly enforce speed via airplanes flying up and down the highways. After 6 months of moving here I needed to get automatic payment set up just to the traffic enforcement photo enforcement company. The water here is bad, its contaminated regularly with pesticides and fertilizers, they get the water of all places in Des Moines from the Skunk river, the name alone tell you its bad news. It is boring, the sunsets are nice but everything is about crops, all the trees are missing just lines between crops have trees, its a bit dystopian. Its a drive to get to anything remotely scenic, you choices are east to Mississippi or north west to south Dakota black hills.
small town iowa now more than ever dont welcome outsiders since land hyper skyrocketed....and why would you want to live in a foreign place not foreign
As a conservative living in Washington and from the Midwest I'd love to get a job in Iowa or Missouri. I know snowflakes will be staying away and keep on the coast.
Nothing wrong with being conservative. Everything wrong with using that as an excuse to support people like Donald Trump, who lied about the election and tried to overturn it. If you are that kind of conservative, the rest of the country is better off without you.

I'd say only 3 and a half items on this list are negatives to me: The weather sounds dreadful (albeit not much worse than some things I already experience); spiders scare me and mosquitoes annoy me so that's something I'd rather avoid and; as a British person, the idea of people being nice, friendly or too open to strangers goes against everything I consider natural. I don't suffer allergies so I'll call that one neutral. However - everything else on the list sounds like a positive to me!
Blue states suck. I'm glad it's conservative. I don't understand wanting to be taxed at a high rate? Charter schools are great. I believe in school choice. I went to public school. It's just propoganda. Huge deer with no predators to kill my livestock is not a bad thing. I can hunt, fill my freezer, and not have to worry about predators? How is that bad? I like that there aren't a bunch of tourists getting in the way. Being from Michigan, FIP's are always ruining summer. Iowa sounds like a great place to homestead. Spiders eat mosquitoes. Try getting bitten by black flies in the U.P. of Michigan. They're worse than mosquitoes, and I hate mosquitoes.
I'm a lifelong resident of Iowa for 66 years and you commented about KKKJust because we're a rural state doesn't mean we have the KKK I have never seen any in indi cation of the KKk and we don't Mary our cousins or sisters here if you have a negative attitude toward White rural Christian Conservatives who own guns and we even have constitutional carry and our crime rate is well below the National average and if don't like friendly neighbors you won't like it here.

Yes sir. Where do you currently live?
@@LIVINGINIOWA Iowa
The Des Moines metro is a wonderful place to live
@@coltonvanderwerf5347 there is a reason it has the most people!
I vied red and I’m from Bettendorf, Iowa.
Iowa sounds really nice overall
It’s got lots of positives
Western Iowa and Eastern Iowa are very very different...
I can bet where I live has the best fishing in America
Iowa is awful! Hate it here and cannot wait to move! Humidity is the worst!
They need that photo enforcement in FL people would stop dying
Friendly people and affordable rent can't be overrated.
😮 Iowa! I'm coming! Please, pray for me in winter weather coming from FL.
small town iowa now more than ever dont welcome outsiders since land hyper skyrocketed....and why would you want to live in a foreign place not foreign
Those little black bugs could be called " no-see-ums. Or some call them, biting midges.
I think you’re right
Entertainment we have lot of it here. Remember it was OZZY who bit head off a bat right here in Des Moines, Iowa
Positive.
Iowa is a great state.
Lived there most of my life and will never move back. I am gone and gone for good.
Gotcha. Where did you move to?
As a conservative living in Washington and from the Midwest I'd love to get a job in Iowa or Missouri. I know snowflakes will be staying away and keep on the coast.
Sounds good to us! Where at in Washington?
Nothing wrong with being conservative. Everything wrong with using that as an excuse to support people like Donald Trump, who lied about the election and tried to overturn it. If you are that kind of conservative, the rest of the country is better off without you.
I wouldn’t even wanna live by no mountain lions or bears lol
I wouldn’t mind living near them
@@LIVINGINIOWA I guess living In Hawaii we don’t have non of them so maybe Thats why I don’t care about being around animals that can kill me ! Besides sharks 🦈 lol
@@b-lo3145 that’s true but I love seeing them when we travel
I was permanently red say that's a good thing that'd be a reason to move here not a reason not to Oye I forgot this is a real estate person prices go down when your red State prices go up when you're a this guy's a real estate agents are his prices are down and that's why he's bringing up the fact that we're primarily a red State now that be reason to move not a reason not to
Thanks for the reply. Iowa is always changing like other states. Hard to tell if we are as red as we have voted for as the blue candidates for president and governor were not that impressive
@@LIVINGINIOWA we have a representative Governor that's a Republican and chairman Chuck grassley that's a Democrat kind of nullifies each other there's supposed to sit there for litical agendas and ideas and their parties aside and represent us cuz that's their job but they don't do that. nor do they function as they're supposed to under the laws are supposed to people that think they're freeing or easily confused and ruled by their slave owners

Huh? And the education standards look low.
I gave a thumbs down for this video cause I live in Iowa and we don't need any big mouths bad mouthing Iowa.
He's just a real estate agent giving disclosures. He wants a sale that will stick. As a cyclist, I LOVED the week I rode my bike across the state of Iowa back in 2017. Everyone I came across was Iowa nice, the whole experience was a ton of fun. I recommend RAGBRAI to anyone who enjoys riding their bike and meeting new people. Great way to see the state!
small town iowo good ol boy...you will be broadcast on phones from all the cameras and never get a interview so you will be governed by incompetent,,,,ie...pay others taxes cause good ol boy system dont have rules
Highest rates of cancer in the U.S. due to overuse of pesticides.

Plot twist: this guy is actually a member of Slipknot.

Iowa needs to build mountains. Ha ha...other than that it looks appealing to me.
It has rolling hills!

I love Iowa......resident for 60 years. It is very white, conservative and cold. Those are three good reasons I hope the undesirables stay away. Have a nice day.
Thanks for your input! Where in Iowa?
@@LIVINGINIOWA West of the Mississippi. :)
@@ynp1978 gotcha.
I'd say only 3 and a half items on this list are negatives to me:
The weather sounds dreadful (albeit not much worse than some things I already experience); spiders scare me and mosquitoes annoy me so that's something I'd rather avoid and; as a British person, the idea of people being nice, friendly or too open to strangers goes against everything I consider natural.
Come on, Iowa, VOTE RED. Save your own state and our country, you gotta vote RED for the sanity of our mind and country.
Iowa Nice is synonymous with passive aggressive.
Hmmm first time I have heard that. Our experience and clients perspective is that most people are kind.
Thats because your an Iowan@@LIVINGINIOWA

Where at?

But I need to let you know about democrats
you left out crimes, jobs, kkk, etc.
Kkk hilarious- go to California
I'm a lifelong resident of Iowa for 66 years and you commented about KKKJust because we're a rural state doesn't mean we have the KKK I have never seen any in indi cation of the KKk and we don't Mary our cousins or sisters here if you have a negative attitude toward White rural Christian Conservatives who own guns and we even have constitutional carry and our crime rate is well below the National average and if don't like friendly neighbors you won't like it here.
too hot. too cold. nothing to do . everyone wants to know your business and talks behind your back. its like a sport there. its not people living vicariously thru you... its rooted in jealousy and bitterness. i was born there in the 60's. i left in the early 80s. if i didnt still have family there id never go back. Iowas biggest export is its children. sad but true. lots of veiled religious bigotry. Did i mention theres no weed. Boo. sorry.
Def not for everyone. Where did you end up at?
Didn't go to the right places.
