100% that was SUCH an important detail. One of my first complaints from the original trailers. Even having that one detail different made me lose a lot of hope for this remake but now I am feeling a bit more hopeful for it.
To be fair, in the first trailer it seems like the intent of the scene direction was to have him start in the shadows at first, but then leaning forward into the light (which I’m assuming is meant to be him transitioning from knowing why he originally went there to what Silent Hill made him think he came there for).
They should add it as unlockable. E.g. if you beat the game on hard it allows you to open the trunk when you start a new game. Otherwise it would spoil the game for those who don't know the story yet.
I think it would be funny (not funny) if after you beat the final boss you're able to run back to the car and find her and drive into the lake for in water ending lmao
I am from the generation that played the original Silent Hill 2 when it was released, and based on what I saw in this trailer, I can simply say that we are promised a very wonderful remake that will bring back the atmosphere of this legendary game.
Im being extremely cynical to this remake, but this looks good. I got my gripes but are few, also it LOOKS good, they made a good job on enviourments. Now need to see how the story is handled to say more.
I don't believe it. They actually made the game look really freakin' dark! That little spot of light you get recreates the claustrophobic feeling that's missing without the static camera angles. Kudos!
That stupid modern UE5 demake spotlight flashlight is one of the most insulting memes of the modern gaming. No, it will never ever replace the gorgeous, cinematic camera-angles, that could both hide things from the player AND guide players, non-verbally and effectively. All this modern puny flashlight thing causes is make the games too dark most of the time, and environments forgettable black and gray blotches.
@@GugureSux At that point, you should probably pick up the unofficial Silent Hill 2 EE. Static angles were a consequence of technological limits and a source of a lot of frustration. Old school gamers are used to it, but they wouldn't hold up today. Even Resident Evil abandoned them a long time ago. As for the game being "too dark", it's supposed to be. We got a preview of what it looked like brighter and that just wasn't Silent Hill. I've played a lot of those UE games and their problem was that even the light itself wasn't bright enough, especially for bigger rooms. I never felt like I had to strain to see something in this preview.
@@GugureSux fixed camera angle is the worst camera system, im glad its gone, it makes game artificially frustrating and "scary" "Help i cant see the enemy 1 feet infront of me because of the camera, wow this game is scary, spooky!"
@@fabianojeda3078 Keyword being done right and perhaps used sparingly. I somewhat agree. I remember certain moments in Resident Evil and Silent Hill being incredible because of the static angle, but then the very next room would ruin it.
Yeah, like you can hear that he is terrified to be there as well. And when he's in combat stomping on the enemies you can also hear the disgusted terror in James's grunts. Like you know those terrified disgusted noises you make when you're jumpscared by a bee being in your ear?
Silent Hill 1: Due to your own choices, you get stuck in someone else's nightmare. Silent Hill 2: Due to your own choices, you get stuck in your own nightmare. Silent Hill 3: Due to someone else's choices, you get stuck in your own nightmare. Silent Hill 4: Due to someone else's choices, you get stuck in someone else's nightmare. Hence no Silent Hill 5.
If we consider Homecoming as SH5, then it is like SH2. Due to his own choice (drowning Joshua and screwing up the ritual) he gets stuck in his own nightmare. The original concept for SH5 had the protagonist starting in the real world version of Silent Hill, with people, cars, no fog, etc. Then, as the game progressed, you'd get more and more tangled up until you end up trapped in the fog world and otherworld. It was a very interesting concept that should definetely be explored in the future.
I love how quiet it is; no unnecessary chatter/banter, just the same amount of restraint the OG game had. Edit: when I say this, I meant how faithful it is to the original game's audio design.

I didn’t like the sound desing tbh. Everything sounds like you’re in the studio and is not affected by the environment. When James fights in the apartment, it doesn’t sound like they’re in an apartment but in a recording booth. Doesnt seem to change throughout the game either (at least not noticeably). The voice acting may be good, but that’s not all sound design. For this day and age, this is not convincing at all. But thats my opinion at the moment and it may change when the game is out.
The breathing when after combat in the record store when James' health is low and he is reading the note is also a nice touch. I'm sure it's there at other times too, I just really happened to notice it, given the adrenaline of the combat wearing off.
@mysticalos There talking about how he physically took out a pen and marked it as locked on the map in his hand...in the original it was just auto marked on your map
Speaking of details: I hope it’s in the remake, but the original had subtle scares that still haunt me to this day. The first I remember is hearing a couple arguing in the apartment room that leads to the adjacent building and it’s an argument that doesn’t end well. The other one is near the very end at the hotel where if you try to run straight to the 3rd floor and right before you head back down you can hear Mary calling out James’ name. Those always gave me chills because I missed those on my first playthrough
The guy who created the fog for this game is just genius! Look how it look like a living being, embracing the buildings, looks like a cloth above the city, you can barely see anything in front of you... mindblowing!
Easy fog unreal engine XD I agree the tarp over the diner did ad this touch a artist walking around some cities at night would only get was a really cool little touch
@@ilyamacintosh303 dude I have a computer programmer and a 3D art degree that specializes in game design what are you talking about? That sentence is fine I know 3D design & game engines I know what I’m talking about, they just activated a script to trigger the fog to decay when he walked at a certain perimeter u could literally have a sheet of fog just be programmed to recline as he walks near it’s not rocket science I could make fog like that in probably 20 mins
Ok I've changed my mind about this game. The original game is my all time favorite game and I was pissed when I heard they were remaking this. After seeing this though and the extremely subtle details I'm not mad anymore. It looks like they took their time and did it right. Silent Hill fans are some of the most loyal fans ever and I think most of them will be pleased with this.
Silent Hill fans are some of the most *whiny* fans ever. Literally all I've seen silent hill fans do is complain, and I AM a silent hill fan. That being said I think Bloober team did an excellent job on this, I was really excited to see it was them doing it since I loved layers of fear and I think an indie developer is more likely to give the game the respect it deserves.
That clip in the story trailer where he grabs Laura's arm was so perfect, the natural panic and concern in his voice was so spot on he smashed it out the park
I also like the small whimper that sometimes happens when he hits an enemy. It really sells how desperate and frightened James is. It’s like he’s thinking “If this creature doesn’t die from this then I’m doomed”. His voice acting and combat animations remind me of Dead Space and how Issac melees enemies, but obviously more subdued. It’s very effective at cementing that James ,like Issac, is just some dude with zero combat experience, working with what he has to survive.
fuck no it isn't. Have you seen the nu-Maria cell scene? They completely butchered the Maria/Mary switcharoo and the cinematography of the scene. Same thing with Eddie. He's now TURBO-fat little schizo, rather than a failure of a wannabe football player living in his own laalaa land.
Like hell it is. Did you even watch the new trailer? The first 30 seconds, and we are hit in the face with a completely butchered parody of THE iconic Maria/Mary cell scene. And what the hell is that flute background noise in the starting scene? Way to overproduce and butcher one of THE most legendary OSTs while at it.
When the strings come in at 0:46 I start levitating. Akira Yamaoka is a god. Something about it adds an extra layer of ambiguity to how James is feeling. Hopeful that he’ll find his wife? Crushing sadness that she’s gone? Fuck I can’t wait to play this
Haha yep they couldn't get rid of the original sound effect. I am disappointed they got rid of the scream the lying figure makes when you wack it when its down.
@@totarantonio i think it would make sense within the context of the game. Maria seems like she's more caring in the hospital section, i think it's gonna juxtapose very well when it transitions to the prison scene after her death.
Luke Roberts for ya! He did some work for Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities on Netflix, voiced in a game called Outcast - A New Beginning, and other stuff.
Ive waited 12 years for a new silent hill game. Ive watched every gaming conference specifically hoping they would finally announce a new one. Im absolutely estatic!
21:49 I love it they kept it like the original if you miss an item james will stare at indicating there’s an item you should check out. Notice how he looks up at the item above.
Great catch. I was actually really concerned they would miss that detail. No item indicators are needed when you can get contextual clues from James, so I hope there is an option to turn those off.
@@UH60 Yeah I mean it would make the game more immersive. Unlike resent RE games especially RE2 remake they made it so straightforward to just grab everything and move on instead of having fun getting lost collecting items then finally solving a puzzle. I wished they would let old school gamers like me turn off those item indicators.
I'm someone who waited at an EB games for over 3 hours to get my copy of Silent Hill 2 on release day back in 2001. This remake is looking amazing. The atmosphere, lighting, is on point. The apartments are going to feature an "other world" version it looks like, which I believe was not in the original game, that's pretty exciting for me. The one thing that stands out beyond everything else in this new demonstration is the sound design. I cannot express with words how happy I am, and I'm talking about the smallest details. The way the enemies sound when being attacked, the background atmospheric sounds effects, everything is so meticulously crafted in the sound department. This might be the best sounding game on PS5 with the 3D effect. The environments are incredibly detailed. The explorer in me is going to take my time with these environments, I want to see everything. lol
There was an 'other world' but it wasn't via the siren changing things, it was when you hopped from one set of apartments to the other through the broken fire escape
@@sonopegrapher8628 Really?? I’m gonna have to replay the original again lol. I think in this trailer James goes into the middle of the apartments which looks outside. I don’t remember it being dark outside in the original when you leave the apartments.
As someone who still has his 2001 PS2 game, and Restless Dreams version, and the PC port... I can tell you that you're full of shit. This DEI-make looks, sounds and plays like utter shit. Literally all the worst fears of any real SH fan come reality. The new trailer that copied the old 2001 reveal trailer to the T is a great way to compare the two. The Maria's cell scene is totally destroyed now, even worse than in the notorious "HD" Collection. Eddie is made into even bigger caricature of his former self, with not a hint of relatable qualities. And what comes to this new gameplay, we AGAIN got that goddarn Yellow Paint + button prompts meme, on top of the typical over-shoulder shit that has been plaguing the genre since Homecoming.
@dream431ca it happens before you fight p head the first time, you're technically just in another set of apartments but they look hella run down compared to the onws you initially start in and absolutely look like the 'other world' with grating, bloody architecture and stuff.
no unnecesary chattering, no overbloated hud, good sound design, classic songs remastered, solid adaptation of the 3d spaces that we didn´t see in the ps2 fixed camera, yep it looks awesome
Looks like Bloober came through on their word. I love James voice when he’s finishing off an enemy. You can hear the sound of rage and frustration in his voice. That’s a nice realistic touch. I’ll definitely be buying now.

because there are plenty of things still off which are subtle. when Maria speaks in the beginning her line "waiting for you" has no sadness as if she knows James will come. the original has a sad calm in the line delivery. and better not to talk about Maria's line delivery in this remake. Yes there is good stuff in here but plenty of subtle things to reasonably complain about.
@@ruchirpareek the electricity and lights being so bright in some buildings completely kill the vibe for me. in the original those places are decomposing badly

It's good they fixed that, but now they've revealed 100 other issues caused by the same problem: not keeping what the original game had. The reason the original is good is the reason why they shouldn't be messing with it. The red pyramid thing encounter is so stupid now. The original stairwell with the lying figure being manhandled by pyramid head was classic. Now it's a cliched "boss fight" arena without the disturbing intro cutscene. Shock value or no, that is the essence of what Pyramid Head is-James’ repressed feelings and his need for punishment. Who knows, they probably will have that cutscene but did not want to show it here. They didn’t show a lot here. They cut out a lot of parts because they wanted to showcase what they have done to “improve” SH2. Just my thoughts, I’d welcome a discussion.

Yeah, you know what at first I was super annoyed they got rid of the sad smile lip smacking in the voice - but I listened to it this time and finally understood. What they are doing is making her sound more like she's writing the letter at the time she did - when she was dying. She sounds tired, weak and you can hear the sighs of giving up. My only critique now is just the voice weariness sounds like it was enhanced with a flanging effect.
What a fever dream this is... Layers and layers of atmosphere and detail, I can just SMELL the wet floors, the mold, and the stale air. The fog is PERFECTION. The original tracks are still there, just expanded on. The original sound effect are being reused just improved. You could actually hear the sound of James' stubble when he brushed his hand over his face in the intro... WOW. This is a remake done right, and that's saying something considering how untouchable this series is and how nigh impossible it is to pull off a remake of ANY of Team Silent's games. They did it guys, they actually did it... they remade Silent Hill 2... and it's good. Although I am more used to the old Cihi voice of James, but this new James voice somehow make James sounds "Tired and depressed" which really suits the mood. Although I prefer the old Mary voice for some reason, as she has a "hauntingly beautiful" voice.
09:45: Hate to be that guy but can we get rid of that "red border" low-health indicator? Like, we can see the character struggling to walk and full of blood, there's no need for that ugly border cluttering the screen. PS: Everything else looks good 💯
yep it almost looks as ugly as the weird static filter they had in Origins, which you can turn off in that game so I'm assuming you can do the same here
I love the restraint being shown in some of this. Very limited music and sounds, even sometimes limiting the ambience so that it's almost silent. Just the intro with James washing his hands not having the music kick in until he looks up at his reflection makes it work so well.
I found my self saying, "holy shit this is so beautiful", "goddamn this is so high quality", "there is so much more here now", several times throughout this whole video.
Funny, my only thought was "these polished graphics just completely suck out the atmosphere of the original". I look at this and think it may as well be a demo of an upcoming Resident Evil game.
I really like the change in the beginning where it’s quiet while he looks at his hand, and then when it moves up to the mirror then the music starts playing.
And it shouldnt, Silent Hill is not a game for good combat, but one to survive it and avoid if possible. Seeing this not turning into RElite is a good sign.
As a player of 2001 OG, this gameplay is what I was waiting for, that entrance of the town, the elements, the ambient, even the awkward running of James, the team really understand this story.
That's me too :) favourite game of all time. I know it was early footage but the way they did the previous trailers didn't exactly flatter the game. But at least now we can get hype. Obviously we are gonna feel some things are off due to nostalgia but kudos to them for the voice acting in this version. I'm pleasantly surprised. I'm also happy it's got new puzzles like the broken record. The graphics, the ambience and soundtrack are all on point here at least. Hopefully it does really well so silent hill doesn't have to die
My only concern is they cut out chunks of the original game ....there is no remake that did a good job to be faithful...re3 2/3 of the original game cut out, re4 also cut out big chunks of the original...the apartments looks great so far but are they gonna be consistent?? Let's hope 🤞

How to do justice to that masterpiece that was the original. Music, unhealthy atmosphere, settings, monsters, Blobber seems to have given extreme fidelity to what Silent Hill 2 (original)was. I'm waiting for the release, let's hope for the best.
Nah all seriousness they gave his first encounter a hell of a upgrade! It's still wait around to the siren wails but at the same time he's faster and more agile then before..
@@Young_Link_.0 looks better for the most part tbh. the only nitpick i have is that his exit does not involve him going underwater down the stairs like his boss fight originally did (mostly because symbolic purposes). I am also shocked James survived being attacked by his knife while in the original he straight up gets one shotted.
Gameplay looks far better than any cutscene we have seen so far. I was initially concerned that a modernized fighting system would make this game deviate too much from the survival horror formula and change how it's played - and the gameplay calmed me, and the encounters look good! The only major issue I've noticed in the footage released so far is that there are too few moments (in both gameplay and cutscenes) that get close to the "dreamy" feeling of some of the original scenes (I'm especially displeased with how the meetings with Angela look like, spoiler ahead: especially that Angela is the character closest to the border between life and death due her suicidal tendencies and original scenes reflected that - both her mood, how she behaved, and how she was portrayed in cutscenes engulfed in fog, dust and light, or fire, giving the feeling of being overwhelmed and "sinking" in something bigger than ourselves). Additional minor issue - the interactive items are far too visible, which adds to the general UX/UI of the gameplay mechanics, but takes a bit out of a survival horror mood (scrambling for resources and items to progress the story). Besides that - the game looks great, far better than I expected 👏
A small addition to this: most of the environmental and music stuff - sounds *really good*. However, the sound of notification on object collected/used feels far too long. Contrast this with sounds of original SH 1-4 - they are sharp/obtrusive, but very short. This new sound lingers, mixing with the soundscape of the game and in this footage it was so frequent, that it happened to sway my memory of sounds in this game, making them sound a bit more generic. That's a minor issue though. Also the visual notification on object collected/used are too long and placed in the center of the view, taking too much of attention, and throwing me out of the immersion.
I don’t care what anyone says; Showcasing nearly 30 minutes worth of gameplay for a game that is around 11-13 hours in length shows a lot of confidence in your product and I respect that a ton

To be fair, in the first trailer it seems like the intent of the scene direction was to have him start in the shadows at first, but then leaning forward into the light (which I’m assuming is meant to be him transitioning from knowing why he originally went there to what Silent Hill made him think he came there for).
Yes!!!!!!! I’m so happy they went on polishing that scene

As ridiculous as it sounds, I love how James sounds during combat. The voice actor really sells the “scared normal guy” sound

You know, the first thing I know I'm gonna do is check the trunk of that car.
They should add it as unlockable. E.g. if you beat the game on hard it allows you to open the trunk when you start a new game.
Otherwise it would spoil the game for those who don't know the story yet.
Cut to credits - speed run to in water ending
What you’re thinking of is in the back seat, not the trunk
I think it would be funny (not funny) if after you beat the final boss you're able to run back to the car and find her and drive into the lake for in water ending lmao

I didn’t like the sound desing tbh. Everything sounds like you’re in the studio and is not affected by the environment. When James fights in the apartment, it doesn’t sound like they’re in an apartment but in a recording booth. Doesnt seem to change throughout the game either (at least not noticeably). Speaking of details: I hope it’s in the remake, but the original had subtle scares that still haunt me to this day. The other one is near the very end at the hotel where if you try to run straight to the 3rd floor and right before you head back down you can hear Mary calling out James’ name. Those always gave me chills because I missed those on my first playthrough

That clip in the story trailer where he grabs Laura's arm was so perfect, the natural panic and concern in his voice was so spot on he smashed it out the park
Its like the opposite of isaac clarke, its awesome!

I don't understand the complaints. This looks fantastic!
PS: Everything else looks good 💯
They've confirmed you can toggle off the interface details like that one
yep it almost looks as ugly as the weird static filter they had in Origins, which you can turn off in that game so I'm assuming you can do the same here
In the original they used controller vibrations to indicate low health, so it's even more useless.
Plus it looks ugly like those frames you can add in mobile photo editors lol
I think the settings got leaked recently and you can turn this setting off.
I love the restraint being shown in some of this. Very limited music and sounds, even sometimes limiting the ambience so that it's almost silent. Just the intro with James washing his hands not having the music kick in until he looks up at his reflection makes it work so well.
Almost silent? Like silent hill!!!!????
I found my self saying, "holy shit this is so beautiful", "goddamn this is so high quality", "there is so much more here now", several times throughout this whole video.
Sounds like you have autism. And you have never played the original game if this nu-DEImake trash impresses you so.
Funny, my only thought was "these polished graphics just completely suck out the atmosphere of the original". I look at this and think it may as well be a demo of an upcoming Resident Evil game.
@@razmatazz9310How can much superior graphics, detail and sound make the atmosphere worse??
@@Mr.Honest247 Look at demon souls Latria, that's a good example
@@razmatazz9310 oh here we go, another fucking purist. Yeah we get it, old game good, new game bad. All you people sound the fkn same lol🤣
I really like the change in the beginning where it’s quiet while he looks at his hand, and then when it moves up to the mirror then the music starts playing.
The combat system might not be the forte of the game, but it this gives such a better impression now! The atmosphere, color... thats very good!
In the original the combat was an excuse honestly, if they nail the story which is 99% of the experience it should be great
And it shouldnt, Silent Hill is not a game for good combat, but one to survive it and avoid if possible. Seeing this not turning into RElite is a good sign.
@@phantomfenrir4976 I gaurantee you the devs had to fight for that.
If you listen closely you can hear the character breathing in a calm state. It's amazing.
@@v2xerxes580 The exploration is actually longer, this isn't happening on RE2R, even less on 3.
@@v2xerxes580 we shall see. But the game wasn't too long or big originally so I can only see them adding in more like we've seen to elongate it abit and add more context and story into the world and with akira yamaoka being back he will have given them pointers and what they could do. I'm optimistic at least :)
And as a player of both 2001 og and 2024 videogames, still hoping for a ps5 quality game. Almost everything was rather ok, but glass dissapearing when crashing it? Same as for the things PH busts, it just dissapears? C'mon it's ps5
You can hear the trembling in his breathing after some of the encounters. What an attention to detail. I can’t wait for this to come out!
Edit: or when he’s just nervous! Damn this preview is so hype.
i have nothing to complain about besides the fact that they removed "Prisonic Fairytale" from the intro. Why nobody's noticing? it used to set the mood perfectly and it's such a beautiful song
Akira Yamaoka is trying to not just remake the tracks 1 to 1, so maybe it appears in another moment in the game
@@pksstryea on the og album it was later I hope they still add it
How to do justice to that masterpiece that was the original. Music, unhealthy atmosphere, settings, monsters, Blobber seems to have given extreme fidelity to what Silent Hill 2 (original)was. I'm waiting for the release, let's hope for the best.
The stomp and desperation in his breath adds a lot of character to James. Sound design is really well done.👍
the visuals, the soundtrack.. we are so back

@@Young_Link_.0 looks better for the most part tbh. the only nitpick i have is that his exit does not involve him going underwater down the stairs like his boss fight originally did (mostly because symbolic purposes). I am also shocked James survived being attacked by his knife while in the original he straight up gets one shotted.
if it was leon he would never miss a chance to say something stupid
Im glad to see the gun animations and melee combat animations slightly improved once again

I don’t care what anyone says; Showcasing nearly 30 minutes worth of gameplay for a game that is around 11-13 hours in length shows a lot of confidence in your product and I respect that a ton
looks a lot better than the earlier teasers
Visuals are great, some weird animations but that ok. Day one on pc I think.
That's my only real gripe, combat in the orginal wasn't spectacular but the animations look really stiff here.
@@isaaclai1636nah.. everything is up to par with RE and ALAN WAKE...
@erickreyes7902 You CLEARLY didn't play Alan wake 2 of you say this is on par with that game 😂
@@alanramirogarcia2886 Alan Wake 2 was boring in my opinion, too much walking around, and had way too many cutscenes. My types of games are like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.

Okay, I take back my criticism. It looks pretty good, way better than that one trailer they put out.
I like that James sort of yelps while beating and kicking the monsters. Sounds like he is genuinely not having a great time.
The graphics and atmosphere look beautiful, gameplay also really good! I can't wait to play it!
They opened the car door! One of the little details in the original was James left his car door open.. little hint as to his mental state when he arrived. In previous remake footage it was closed. I actually even commented on this in a previous TH-cam video as I thought it was a bit of a miss that the devs didn't get it. So happy to see they made that change, will be buying for sure.
So, the opened door made your choice? 😀
Haha yes it did, I saw they had added the darkness to his face at the start so they had listened to feedback, and as I was watching I thought to myself, if they've opened the car door I'll buy it... Then it panned over the car really slowly and the door was open. I literally loled and committed to buying it.@@EugeneNaumenko_Music
Seems like they vastly expanded the size of the maps and puzzle solving, that's great, I hope they kept some of the riddle based puzzles, they were my favourites. The graphics look insane, finally some "next gen" stuff on console.
It literally looks worse than some 10yo PS4 titles, all while requiring an modern RTX card and/or upscaling to even get 30fps on most systems.
I don't know what kind of feces the "modern audiences" enjoy as their gourmet meals on the consoles these days, but this trash DEI-make is worse than just "unimpressive".
It's literally every SH fan's worst fears and the silliest old internet memes, come reality:
Yellow paint, button prompts, QTEs, constant handholding, Homecoming style combat and camera, butchered character designs and VA, paid DLC out of the box... fucking awful.
