I love these type of video topics. I never even knew of this problem because I don’t have a PS5 or Xbox Series console with the unique spine art (I play the new games on Switch or PC), but I hope they do fix this
i feel like this is a whole wide sega thing too. my copy of persona 3 reload on ps5 has the same boring ass font as sonic frontiers and it makes me sad because i know they can put a little more effort in the spine art and make the game pop out of the shelf
I imported Frontiers from Japan on PS4, but I bought Reload in person in the states. So I agree with you this is a Sega thing, and it's really sad. But I also feel like Sega of America just doesn't care about physical anymore... Kinda makes me wish I wasn't a Persona dub fan or I would have imported that too
Same here with my Persona 3 Reload copy, Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth has the same generic spine and looks really jarring next to its prequel that just has the normal logo. I think it's just a SEGA problem here and I am baffled of why they just don't bother at least adding the game logo...

The Sonic Origins Plus and Sonic Superstars reversible cover's spineart reminds me of how Doom (2016) has a boring cover but it's reversible cover looks really lame
Check out final fantasy spine arts. They're very basic too but it's also reminiscent of the original cover arts they used to have so they have an excuse atleast.
As an owner of the PAL version of Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing and Sonic Heroes (SEGA All-Stars Racing on Wii, Heroes on PS2), my copy of Sonic and SEGA All-Stars Racing has the logo on the side.

It's not Sonic spineart that's died. It's all spineart. It's probably all standardized now.
