On our way to the ark was a mistake line by Jason, who also played shadow. Shadow was supposed to say the they I guess we are going to the ark too as to feel inmpower and force Sonic to tag along.
Worst Sonic song- but you can't include anything from Dark Brotherhood
@@coyotix is the video even worth it at that point????
@@wallaceprower Fair, but it's a good challenge
Should’ve added “LOOK AT ALL THOSE EGGMAN’S ROBOTS” “I SMELL FROGGY” or “My names Big because I’m big and this here is Froggy because he’s a frog”
Honestly shocked that “Baldy McNosehair” didn’t make it in. That joke is still super despised to this day, which is unique compared to a lot of these lines, which have become ironically quotable
That line alone would clear the entire bracket.
@@mr.penguindrewmateo8146 Idk, the winner would be a tough one to beat.
Most overhated line in Sonic Universe
@@MattGOnYT Remember people used to hate that line? Now people are quoting it ironically.
People hate "Baldy McNosehair"? Most people I've talked to just consider it a silly throwaway joke line, but not really bad in any way.
"Taking candy from a baby" is true hero path, so yeah, let that sink in
its so sad bc in japanese he just comments that he's fine with it being easy
the english translation thought it wasnt edgy enough and through the baby in there 😭
Coughing Baby vs Shadow Fever
Of course it is! Candy's terrible for babies. Shadow's a true hero for making sure the babies are safe by taking their candy!
I think it's supposed to be referring to how easy it is to steal since that is how that saying is used, but people tend to not interpret that way.
@@BlueInsomniac_I think the intention for the English line was that Shadow was okay with it being as easy as taking candy from a baby, not that he’s okay with taking candy from a baby. But with the way it’s worded, most people would assume the latter.
“Strange isn’t it” has more context. Robotnik had created a mental link between Sonic and Metal so that Metal could predict Sonic’s actions. After a bit, Sonic figured out that he could sync with Metal and turn the one-way link into a two-way link so that he could now predict Metal’s actions. He then taunts Metal by telling him that they can both predict the other now, with a smug rhetorical question at the end.
I also want to point out that the majority of the Heroes dialogue wasn't proofread and thats why some things like the "were sonic heroes" and amy's marriage proposal is so clunky. In the japanese version team sonic calling themselves that was to make fun of Eggman who suggested they call themselves that. and the marriage proposal was more along the line of Ill impress you enough you'll want to marry me. Also the line where sonic says that shadow was too stubborn to die is actually a callback to japanese SA2 where sonic says that stubbornness is his saving grace.
It's really weird that they didn't catch it was rhetorical and snarky. Was honestly surprised they thought it was just an actual question lmao
Yeah, but i really feel like that scene was too iconic for get in here.
Also Sonic is seen reaching out to Metal to see if he can get it to think independently, so asking it questions and taunting it helps toward that goal.
Yea
"Don't go there yet" is both hilarious and horrific. It's like saying "it MIIIIIGHT get better" but also you said that to a SUICIDAL PERSON
"Jump!" -Sonic in Sonic 06
The mistranslation of Shadow’s game is so bad lmao
@@deninjasolinap6069Sonic has a "jump!" Quote from Secret Rings as well, so i just heard Shahra's "O-okay..!"
Don't kill yourself...YET
@@deninjasolinap6069 Jump They Say
I feel like "because we're sonic heroes" gets considerably worse (or better) when you consider the fact that they 12v1'd metal sonic. They jumped him, and when he asks how they won, he gets hit with one of the cheesiest lines of all tine.
you put it so well oh my goodness LOL
To be fair, he was turned into a mega monster creature
Honestly a crime that they didn't include "Hey look, ramps! We can use these as ramps!" or "You're weak, and you know what makes you weak? Your loyalty to your pathetic friends".
But really, some of these lines are just ironically hilarious or just terrible, but that's what makes them so memorable. I hope I'm not the only one that recognized all of them (I need help)
tbf the ramps one isn't one line, it's two lines that often play right after each other
the ramps one has to be added idc what anyone says 😊
They can’t do the ramps quote because it literally can’t lose to any other quote.
BOUNCE PADS.
yeah i wouldve loved ramps but honestly its almost like cheating
In defense of the "stealing candy from a baby" line, it was most likely another mistranslation. The intended meaning was that shadow was okay with it being easy, not being okay with stealing candy from babies.
you can still get that with the english version of the line
he says it's "like taking candy frol a baby" not "it's like i'm taking candy from a baby"
this is true! the english translation placed weird significance on "fine by me", but the original japanese line just talked about how stupid it was of them to leave a chaos emerald exposed.
One thing is just a saying for something easy. But then he reiterates about it.
Like Mr. Burns trying to steal Maggie's candy.
"this is too easy, which is fine by me, but it's like stealing candy from a baby"
I always thought the "Strange, isn't it!??" Line was more rhetorical. Like to rub it into metals face, as is kinda par with sonic's personality at the time lol
it IS
i was ENRAGED when they never got that
Literacy is dead, media literacy doubly so 😂
Fr, the entire scene was basically just “we both know what the other is going to do, isn’t that a funny coincidence?” Like, no duh the last part is unserious, it’s Sonic jabbing at Metal Sonic for being essentially a copy of him. It frustrates me immensely that they couldn’t see that.
How could they not get something so basic lol
I genuinely thought it was rage bait for comments
"Special race" is just a bad translation. It's closer in meaning to "Not just a race, but a _specialized_ race, to see who's truly the fastest!" It still doesn't make sense, but it's absolutely intended to get under Sonic's skin.
So...they mistranslated it and didn't fix it.
@@mackenziewoloschuk7375 Thaaat's 2006 Sonic for ya!
Just to play devil's advocate here, but when he says "which is fine by me" in the stealing from a baby line I'm pretty sure he's saying that he's fine with it being easy, not being fine with stealing from a baby.
Absolutely true but the fact that it leaves that ambiguity still makes it hilariously over the top because I'm pretty sure 90% of people would first assume he's okay with robbing the baby until they sat and thought about it.
given the game is in many places oddly translated, i can absolutely see this being the sort of intended effect of the translation and it was just perfectly distorted by faulty localisation, translation, or just time constraints that made this game what it was in general and the voice lines being what they are.
i had honestly never even thought of this, it wasn't an option i saw in my brain until right now. thanks for playing devil's advocate fr, i think this is a super plausible explanation for why this line could be perceived wrong and not just jarringly edgy. Although, given the jarring edge of the game, I think it probably did have something to do with that too, but it was a sort of perfect disaster that made that particular line so edgy and misinterpreted in how it is remembered.
that's exactly what happens
The original Japanese line was something along the lines of: "Leaving a Chaos Emerald out in the open? How foolish of them!".
IMO the second half should've been different to avoid misinterpretation, like "This is like taking candies from a baby, not that I'm complaining."
It bothers me that this possibility wasn't even brought up by anyone in the video. I say "possibility," but that was clearly the intention of the writers. "This is [simile for 'too easy'], which is fine by me." Pretty straightforward. The fact that there's room for ambiguity is hilarious and bad, but they consistently scored this line assuming the "mistake" was the intentional meaning of the line. Other lines got the benefit of context at least some of the time.
They didn't much consider context for "disgusting creatures" either. No one knew they were from space yet, no one knew what they called themselves, at that point in the game they're literally just unknown creatures identifiable by their black scales/skin/exoskeletons/whatever. Of course the line looks horrifying sitting out of context, but what else was Shadow supposed to call them?
Yall TWEAKING. “STRANGE ISNT IT” IS A FIRE QUOTE WITH FIRE DELIVERY. SHOULDNT HAVE MADE IT PAST ROUND 1

PREECH KING 🗣️
I actually went to a convention and met Roger Craig Smith. I told him to put his favorite quote from the series on a poster....he went with the copyright line.
Lmao, that's gold
tbf the line is actually pretty funny when you don't overthink it.
@@PipesTheVlob It feels like these guys hate that era of sonic and seem to be them making excuses for "that's how the character was". Yes and that's why they were hated back then.
Haven't watched the video yet if Ken Penders plagiarizing a famous poem about the holocaust and making it about echidnas isn't on here I'd be shocked.
ain't no way he did that sht💀
the archie comics need their own bracket trust me
@@wallaceprower You need to make a second one where it’s ACTUALLY its own bracket, that would be hilarious.
whos gonna tell him he literally had knuckles be jesus
@@artykeldeo What☠️🗿
An honorable mention would be Tails saying “I don’t know, but what I do know is… we all did it together!” After Eggman’s monologue in SA2
It reminds me a lot of the "We're Sonic Heroes!" line in that it begins with a villain offering a moment of vunerability and introspection to their characters, but is immediately cut off by a cheesy "We did it!" type line. That tonal whiplash just kind of ruins those scenes for me.
"Taking candy from a baby" was supposed to signify he's ok with them making it easy for him to take the chaos emerald.
That being said, it's so easy to misinterpret that line that most people do. *AND* it's on the True Hero path, so why is he making this simile?
i think this is a falure on the part of the translation of shadow 05 in genrel with swearing being added and lines being altered like in the original japanese version he says somthing along the lines of "how foolish of them to expose me to an easy to grab chaos emerald
Not including “Give me a break, what’s with all this drama” from Black Knight was such a missed opportunity after seeing “don’t go there… yet”😭
RIGHT
Especially considering Knight Knuckles was just about to *slit his own throat.* If that's what Sonic considers "drama", what does he consider an actual problem?
@@rainpooper7088 he considers it overblown to want to to do that after just losing a simple duel. It's just a "calm down, why would losing a simple fight want to make you want to do THAT?" It makes perfect sense in context and I don't see the line being anything else. I don't know what you're talking about tbh.
“Copyright law” was in response to an Eggman announcement that freeing the aliens or planet would violate the park’s copyright.
yeah i've always loved that line idk what their vendetta here was
They are clearly biased against the 2010s lines, but forgave some garbage from Heroes.
I don’t care what anyone says, that line is funny
@papersonic9941 absolutely
I quite like the "copyright law" line in the context of the game, but the big problem I have with it is that after the whole Penders lawsuit situation, every time I hear the line it just reminds me that yes, in fact a copyright law can stop you - or at least prevent you from having good storytelling for over a decade and ensuring that we never see Shade the echidna again.
I’m surprised there was nothing from Lost World. I was sure that “I’m supposed to be the fastest, but I was too slow to save by buddy” was gonna be in there.
Kind of surprised to not find Tails yelling “Sonic, HELP ME!” from Sonic Forces on this list, given how infamous that entire sequence is.
along with "look at all those eggmans robots"
Nah, It's not big of a deal
To be fair.
Forces deserves a spot for every dialogue in that game.
@@maravreloaded Every Sonic game 3D deserves its own spot for every single dialogue
Ashley would be great friends with Tails.
Tails has some more "bangers" that were left out:
"Look at all those Eggman's Robots"
"True dat"
"We all did it together!"
"I am horribly inconsistent"
I don't know why Tails gets so many dumb quotes.
The "horribly inconsistent" line is just true. Sure, it's meta, but it also sounds like genuine self-reflection.
"I am horribly inconsistent" is real and based, what are you on about?
@MsMvsc
It's dumb because it's the writer winking at the audience in what's supposed to be serious scene, which ruins any immersion players may have had in Tails reflecting on his past failures. Just because you agree doesn't mean the line isn't stupid from an in-universe perspective.
"I am horribly inconsistent", nah that is actually a good line imo bc Tails is having a self-reflective crisis and this is a legitimate concern he has about himself that matches up with his performance and character in previous games. I feel like it's questionable to try and make all the games canon on part of Sonic Team, given how inconsistent Tails is and how objectively bad many of them are, but this line works for the context and for Sonic Team's goals. Plus it didn't make me go "huh?" like the other Tails lines in this comment. I am a bit biased toward Frontiers Tails bc I love how they wrote him in that game, best they've done him in a while.
"You're that Sonic from another dimension, aren't you?"
Fun fact! The taking candy from a baby line at 19:17 is NOTHING like the original Japanese version. He just says something along the lines of "man, they were stupid for leaving an emerald out in the open for me like this."
Imagine being a Japanese writer, who wrote the script, a few years later after the game was released you see this line in the English version.
More fun facts! Since they didn't know what rating they'd be allowed to have from higher-ups, there are unreleased version of almost every one of Shadows lines in his game where he swears. There is a very real chance that the line "its like taking candy from a baby, which is fucking fine by me" is a real line that was recorded and exists out there
“ because, we’re sonic heroes! “ feels like “ this truly was an adventure… a Sonic Adventure 2! “
The "Stealing candy from a baby" line is actually something you can encounter when doing nothing but hero mission in Shadow the Hedgehog, which is even weirder.
You can technically reach it with 1 or 2 dark or neutral missions.
@@LiMe251 Sure, but it's way more jarring to hear it when you've been doing nothing but good missions.
@@gll50 Not really.
all's well that end's well has to be funny on purpose because of the 10 sec of silence before hand
And it's the last line in the game! So that's the impression you're left with during the credits.
But every line in Sonic Adventure is preceeded by long awkward silenced
@@wileecoyotegenius5955or by someone cutting the other person off there wasn’t a normal amount of silence it was either getting cut off or 10 seconds of nothing
It's funny, but it doesn't work for the character, so it still sucks.
@@wileecoyotegenius5955 thatsmore so because of translation error and them tryna keep up with the animation heroes as far as ik didnt have that problem
When Amy says, "If I had to choose between the world and Sonic, I would choose Sonic!" I take it as though, it's because she KNOWS Sonic. The military did turn on him before, so she knows at times like that she would rather side with him than those who persecute him. If Sonic were to turn out evil or do some really bad shit, she wouldn't even believe it, cuz that's not the Sonic she knows. Hence, "Sonic would never do that!" And she was right, he didn't. I fully believe Amy was just devoting herself to her friend who she believed in, not being a crazy fangirl like most call her.
"If I had to choose between the world and Sonic, I would choose Sonic!"
That line would have worked if they ONLY HAD added other lines to give Amy's words more weight and impact.
For example: After Amy said that, she would say the following:
"Because he is the purest and noblest person I have ever met!"
"So, tell me... Do you really think that killing someone would save the world?"
In this way, Amy's words would have a genuine impact on Silver, in such a way that he himself begins to rethink the action of killing Sonic, as seen in the following cutscene where Silver and Blaze were debating precisely about that killing someone would save the world is morally right or not. Seriously, this would have made Amy has that line well supported, and It would not be left to misinterpretations.
Choose between the world and Sonic - you know, the Sonic whose theme literally says "it doesn't matter now what happens, I will never give up the fight, long as the voice inside tells me to run and fight, it doesn't matter who is wrong and who is right".
I don't know you, but I do know. You get her, she'd believe in him even when nobody else, even himself doesn't.
The whole "OMG Sonic" is not necessarily false, but just a phase she grew out of. We all did cringe things when we were younger
the intention is there, but the lack of any elaboration makes so that the clearest meaning is her choosing sonic even if it meant the end of the world, th eline could've used more work.
i can't believe you didn't include "i was on a snooze cruise, i guess" but included "comon ya big drip! where ya going" and "away! before i make mincemeat out of you!" even though these two are good quotes
You don't even have the stellar line
"Hey ramps!
We can use these as ramps!"
"Top secret disc" reminds me of the line in Heroes where Vectors talking about needing (casino) chips and he goes "Chips!? Like potato chips!?" Like, he's just a little kid who absolutely shouldn't be there, but Vector and Espio are too broke to hire a babysitter so they taught him to fight and take him on dangerous missions with them, it's hilarious.
Sam was cooking the fuck out of Mike Pollock
My problem with the line "No copyright law in the universe is going to stop me" is that could have worked if they simply removed the word 'copyright'. It doesn't makes sense as it is, Eggman is enforcing his rules in the wisp planet, he's saying basically "do not destroy my generators", copyright has nothing to do with it
Eggman's line playing over the speakers in the park is something about a copyright law and Sonic is responding directly to that
For a bracket of 'worst lines', there's a bunch of classic (good) lines. For instance, why is 'mincemeat' here??
But also, neat idea for a video. Would love to see the reverse, too.
Im surprised there weren't any lines from Boom or Lost World. Lost World in particular had a lot of questionable moments just because of how all over the place the tone of the story was
"eggman, you bite!" definitely couldve been on here.
Boom needs its own contest. The random character dialogue during the gameplay of Rise of Lyric alone could probably fill a whole yearbook of stupid lines.
@@rainpooper7088yeah and “Hey look ramps. We can use these as ramps.” Exists as a line
I'm surprised how they missed the "You're weak, and you know what makes you weak? Your loyalty to your pathetic friends" line
How the fuck is the mincemeat line even here? Surely there's more quotes that suck other than that.
I think the logic is that it's a jarring shift in the tone, and it probably wasn't even intended. They were trying a couple of different kinds of read for Eggman, since he had all those different portrayals in the west before, so that one line slipped in from a different take on the character than the entire rest of the game has
@@manjackson2772 Honestly, it's not even that much of a shift - all of Eggman's cutscene lines have a more menacing delivery in Tails' story compared to Sonic's. And here Tails is having to confront Eggman on his own.
“None of this is good Vector… that’s why it’s called Sonic Forces”
I just have to say, despite the copyright law line being bad... you shouldve had representation from that game for a true enduring classic. "BALDY NOSEHAIR!"
I think they definitely had the right idea with the copyright law line, but they just made it a bit too basic. How would I have done it?
"If you think your copyright laws are gonna slow me down, you've got another thing comin'! I'm not gonna cease OR desist from doing what's right!"
I think the mountain of handkerchiefs was supposed to be comforting because he couldn't stay to comfort her and she just got out of a bad relationship, so i think he was trying to tell her, "It's ok to cry, here's a mountain of handkerchiefs to dry your tears"
It was just not executed well. I think i see the intent, but it missed.
I'm gonna attempt to clarify what Sonic was trying to say with that ARK line. When he said, "So I guess that means we're going too", he was referring to the context of space.
So the line should be interpreted as "Looks like those black creatures are headed out to space. We're on our way to the ARK, so I guess that means we're going [to space] too."
Needless to say, someone should've taken another look at that line to clarify what Sonic meant
I always interpreted the line as "We (Sonic's group of friends already inside the ship) are on our way to the Ark so I guess that means you're joining us."
that's still kinda aeird tbh, the ark is in space, where else would they go; I feel they shoudve said as "we're on our way to the ark, so i guess were gonna bump into those creatures too."
"No way out of marrying me" is a line I unironically like. Stuff like that made me love Amys character, she was so funny. She was always entertaining.
To be fair, I loved 90% of lines in the first round. I never understood people finding Sonic dialouge too cringe.
But she wasnt trying to be funny. She is serious about beating the crap out of Sonic and forcing him to marry her. That's messed up even if it's also funny.
@@yoursonisold8743that's misconception made by the dub.
It's annoying because she's basically the only girl character in the series for a long time and her only character trait was obsessed with sonic. It was literally all she would talk about.
@@crimsonzone8984...no? I mean that's literally the line.
@@uberculex you have not met people like us, my guy. We all have unhealthy obsession over sonic. You have no idea how obnoxious the fans are that I've encountered.
The mountain of handkerchiefs line is the equivalent of Sonic going to the store because you're on your period and spending way too much because he doesn't know what to get you.
"What size is your pussy" -Sonic the Hedgehog
This is a _God-tier_ analogy🤣
Vector's line also reminds me of that one IDW moment, where Belle admitted that her heart was broken and our good intended crocodile goes "like, literally? Cause Tails could fix that probably"
So I guess it's a part of his character now 🤣
Inaccurate bracket: Didn’t feature single quote from Lost World
I’m truly disappointed
Have you all ever heard of a rhetorical question before? The "strange, isn't it," quote is quite clearly not a literal question. I'm surprised three people managed to miss this. Also, you know the quote "like stealing from a baby," is a normal saying, right? It implies that whatever youvwere doing is very easy. So Shadow was saying, "This is too easy, but thats fine by me." Im just suprised y'all missed these two. Its just kind of bizarre.
If the "stealing candy from a baby" line was phrased or emphasized better, it wouldn't sound so literal. The "fine by me" needed to be broken into its own thought. "This is easier than stealing candy from a baby. Fine by me."
And there's definitely been a loss in understanding idioms around, it's so bizarre.
@@pinkcupcake4717strange, isn't it?
See I think the "strange, isn't it?" line is weird just because of the stilted fast delivery makes it sound like he's spiraling into some weird conspiracy theory.
For me, the worst Sonic quote is...
Literally anything Sonic's friends spout during the Time Eater fight, because they spell out every single attack ad nauseum
"That looks like a Homing Shot!"
"Be Careful, Sonic!"
to me the worst is every in game dialogue from rise of lyric
@@Ice-Bear **BOUNCE PAD!!**
i really feel like you guys went waaay too hard on the mountain of handkerchiefs line. out of context you can say it’s kinda funny but that line literally literally gives me chills (i know im a loser lol). context is that the game is an allegory for an abusive relationship and sonic just stopped shahra’s abuser and he lets shahra feel the emotions she needs to feel and helps her through it. i really don’t see that as a bad line and i don’t really mind the symbolism there i think it hits.
Exactly! I couldn't have said it better myself.

yeah (And I hate to say this but) it comes off as a bit ableist? I dunno. As someone who's on the spectrum and can't always read the room, I find it shitty whenever people get mad at someone for something intended as an act of kindness. people really need to do better.
@@polocatfan As someone who's also on the spectrum: Yeah, it's unfortunate that they found it cringe-worthy, but it's not inherently ableist??? Like, if you feel that way, then I can't deny that, but they're only sharing their own views on how a cutscene was portrayed; they're not even getting mad, just laughing and expressing their disappointment/incredulity.
I'm surprised that "We all did it together!" wasn't included at all
Nah, that line was iconic
And, that scene was the only scene in Sonic history were Eggman showed an verge of emotion. And btw, what-else Tails supposed to say?
I mean he's 8. Him saying "Yay Teamwork" when an 40+ year old man opening his feelings, what the hell, he's supposed to say
"Like damn man, pretty rough life huh?"
@@ScreenGemsa I do agree with that, that's something to consider. But it's such a sentimental moment, especially hearing Eggman say that, so the line and it's delivery sort of ruin it
nah, like screengemsa said, tails is only 8 and is definitely not equipped to comfort eggman of all people. it makes sense for a kid his age to say something dumb like that, but it's made a bit heartwarming when you see how eggman agrees with him.
The "candy from a baby" line deserves the win imo. Let's not forget it's immediately preceded by "You've gotta be kidding me, guys!" which makes it even funnier
It sounds like he's talking to an invisible Twitch chat
@@aliasella488 LMAO you're right
Imagine if this whole time, the "which is fine by me" wasn't about stealing candy, but about it being easy.
Can't even imagine...
35:15 man, I didn't think about this before, but Vector really did just send the 6 year old child that he takes care of into a warzone unsupervised to steal top secret files.
"Strange isn't it" has kept me happy over the years. No one I know understands the reference, but I say it at every opportunity examples
the weather says it won't rain, then it rains, "Strange isn't it!"
The directions for the microwave don't actually heat the food up, "Strange isn't it!"
The bride doesn't show up to my friend's wedding, "Strange isn't It!"
How did Lost World not get a single entry here? “As long as I can still strangle a Zeti, my hands are fine” has gotta be a bottom 20 Sonic quote, minimum. What about when Amy says “I’m sorry, I never got a chance to say…” before passing out… like she’s implying she’s never expressed romantic interest in Sonic before lol. Honestly between Lost World and all the other missed bad Sonic quotes that people are mentioning in the comments, I think there just might be enough material for a second bracket.
I don't see a problem with that first quote at all.
What if she was about to say "I've actually been over you for a while"
I bet about 1 line being in there and I'm glad I was right.
'Hey don't go there... yet'
Why make Vector say THAT after the whole computer room thing
The "taking candy from a baby" line is literally from the pure hero route
The mountain of handkerchiefs quote will NEVER come off as a bad quote to me. The context and meaning behind it are too good. Sonic’s actions and quote symbolises that she needed time to get over the loss of her implied abusive partner, and a mountain of handkerchiefs would give her all the time she needed to grieve.
Is it cheesy? Yeah. But most Sonic quotes are.
The worst quote are the stupid forced in references from Sonic Frontiers like “These balloons drifted in from Springonia”
"Disgusting black creatures" has the same vibe as some of the dubs in anime where the writers knew EXACTLY what they were doing, such as future trunks' "Hold your fire! This man isn't black!" And that one guy in JJK who kept talking about monkeys
No copyright law in the universe will stop this video!

stealing candy from a baby because we're sonic heroes
If Shadow the Hedgehog ever gets remade, they better include a scene of Shadow ACTUALLY stealing candy from a baby fr fr 👶
Or put it in the Sonic 3 movie. After all, the first one had a picture of Sanic, and the second had Robotnik quoting Uganda Knuckles, so they're probably going to put a Shadow meme reference in it. My money was on mentioning the DAMN fourth chaos emerald, but seeing him steal candy from a baby would work too.
shadow the hedgehog cutaway gag mini game where you steal candy from babies
What no "find the computer room", "gates of hell" or "how'd you get here so quickly"?
''Talk about a low budget flight'' too
Honestly shocked that Silver’s lines “I’m an optimist but I’m also a realist” and “Tails has just lost it” aren’t on here. I think both could have gone far on this bracket.
"I'm an optimist but I'm also a realist" That line is not too bad. Taking into account the context of the scene, it doesn't seem so out of place to me. However, the other line, "Tails has just lost it" does not quite work.
@@sebastianmartinez5963 “Tails has just lost it” was lost in translation from the Japanese to the English version. It was meant to be “Tails is lost without him”. Still should be on the list though
No idea why Big Drip is there, big drip works really well with the story and Sonic’s perspective on what Chaos is, originally seeing him as just a minor joke bad guy who runs away when easily defeated, then Chaos is taken more seriously as it’s revealed what he is
You guys do realize a voice actors job is to voice act right. What Mike Pollock said was completely understandable. His job isn't to question the director.
Directors can be wrong too. In most jobs if you let a mistake you notice slip by you can still be held accountable even if you aren't directly responsible. And it should be that way
Me, seeing some of these quotes: “Long time, no see!”
as an editor the wave ocean line really gets to me, i always triple check my shit before sending it down the production line, them not catching that feels bonkers to me
> Doesn't know the "Stealing candy from a baby" metaphor
Man, I really wanted to enjoy the video, but I have to stop watching because that censorship soundbite got way too annoying.
I agree, at least change it up
I feel like some people forget who Sonic is as a character… the “mountain of hanckerchiefs” is literally such a good line, it’s supposed to be touching and sentimental of what Sonic does. 40:34 “too poetic” oh wow so we’re pulling that card now… ok whatever.
Ikr
With Metal Sonic in the OVA, he could respond to Sonic (and he does later) but as far as I can tell, only Sonic could actually be aware of it.
Also, call me crazy but I will defend Elise this one time. Being forced to bury and not show her emotions for most of her life, her outburst at the end of Sonic 06 to me, makes sense. For the first time in a very long time, she is able to just let her emotions out and when you’ve been in that position of having to detach from your emotions for most of your life, not caring about anything is realistic.
Oh and Evan’s “this is the sauce that makes me who I am” at 48:03 was hilarious 😂
..."candy from a baby" was *pure good.* The path that's probably most in character for Shadow.
Not a fan of this video, felt like there were misconceptions, ignorance of context, legitimately bad takes and over exaggerations 1000 times per minute, not to mention that "it's just a kid's franchise why did they do X/what did you expect" mentality that I despise oh so very much. It felt like IGN non-Sonic fans/casuals ranking quotes cluelessly, it's so weird.
Genuingly one of the most useless things on this site, and that's saying something
@@anotheryoutubeaccount5259 My comment or the video? lol

It's a shame that "Look at all those Eggman's robots!" didn’t make it, but this was still a pretty good selection.
I just realized that Shadow calls the Black Arms black creatures throughout the entire game, Even after he learns their name.
So... There's no excuse for this.
Also, the the aliens barely look black. Most of them look blue.
Shadow doesn't dignify them with their actual names.
Black is a term used for darkness though even if they are blue they are dark
@@megabluemanlike dark pit being called "Black Pit" in japanese. or in the sonic OVA eggman's mech is called. like, Black Eggman
@@megablueman why not call them the dark creatures then?
you guys have a serious problem about not getting what symbolism is
You have to have braincells to comprehend it
You can perfectly comprehend and understand the intended meaning behind some dialogue and still criticize how it was written/delivered.
19:50 nobody tell them this quote came from the HERO route lol
This line is fine....people seem to have forgot that thats a real saying that means something shadow is just fine with something being easy.
@Theserperiortrainer497 it's not the fact that "taking candy from a baby" is a popular phrase, it's what shadow says afterwards that makes the line so infamous
@@LegendryHeropon"What he says after" that... that he's fine with his main goal being easier?
@@LiMe251 point is, the line is easy to misinterpret as shadow saying that he's okay with stealing candy from babies
@@sharen7553 It's only easy to misinterpret if you have no concept of metaphors.
The ARK line I think is supposed to be used with the context of the Black Arms also being headed to the ARK. Sonic and Shadow were already about to go to the ARK, and they just found out the Black Arms were too, hence the "we're going too". To rephrase it, it would be more like "Looks like they're headed out to space. We're on our way to the ARK, so I guess that means we'll join them".
Never say "dawg" ever again
"We all did it together!" from SA2 irks me so much. Tails, Eggman is pouring his heart out to you.
Tails' "they're all dead" line from heroes not being on here is an atrocity
"BECAUSE WE'RE SONIC HEROOOOOOS"
I don't remember the direct quote but Sonic's "stand up comedy routine" when he see's a boss in Sonic Colours about how he's taking this seriously because he's stretching is PAINFUL.
There are so many weird/awkward Sonic lines that would’ve been great contenders for the bracket yet weren’t included
Just off the top of my head: “My hands are fine….” from Eggman in Lost World, “Gimme a break!” from Sonic in Black Knight, “Does anyone but YOU believe your LIES?!” from Silver in Forces.
If you include adaptions you get even more classic memes like “That’s no good!” and “Delicious Banana”
At least the delicious banana was meant to be a comically bad excuse on Eggman's end, if you're laughing at that one, it's done its job.
The, "On our way to the ARK," is a translation error. Jason Griffith did actually mention it to the director and was told to go ahead reading it anyway, but that's a translation error, it has been since confirmed.
Hopefully eggman's threat of beheading the zeti will be in this
I feel like the intent for stealing candy from a baby is "I'm okay with this being as easy as stealing candy from a baby," but it just doesn't get read that way
it is, it’s clearer in the original translation
....did people just forget that "this is like taking candy from a baby" is an actual real saying?i mean it just means that something is essy the context of that line shadow getting an easy chaos emerald i don't understand why people are so tripped up over it.
For me, it's the extra "which is fine by me" that (hilariously) brings the line up to another tier of asshole-ry. It genuinely sounds like Shadow would be fine with taking candy from a baby lol
@@Aktedya1-jt7vw ots not well read but I honestly didn't read it that way at first.
Yeah I agree. Shadow the Hedgehog has lots of bad lines in the English version, but that's not one of them
@@arjunmenon1796 "We're on our way to the ARK so it looks like we're going too" although that is probably a typo, not a mistranslation.
The Japanese version puts much more emphasis on the “oh hey this was easy”
I love how in back to back games Tails says some random shi to close out the game “we all did it together” after Eggman was reflecting on his life has potential to be on here💀😭
It's no use... the list is going to grow
Why are there good lines in this bracket?
i think they just grabbed a handful of famous memes lines at bulk
"This is like taking candy from a baby" = "This is stupidly easy" + ",which is fine by me"
= "This is stupidly easy and that's fine by me"
15:15 "Didn't Elise say the same thing?"
Not only that, but this is basically a core theme of the game; nearly every major character in Sonic '06 has to choose between the world and somebody they care about.
Silver has to seal Blaze away with Iblis to save the world, but he can't bring himself to let her go, so she has to do it herself.
Shadow has to choose between saving Rouge and the Scepter of Darkness. He picks Rouge, which results in Mephiles getting out of the staff and ending the world.
Rouge learns that the world is going to turn against Shadow someday, but promises to still be on his side and not theirs.
And the start of everything is the Duke of Soleanna toying with Solaris and risking ending the world because he wants his dead wife back.
It would arguably be good writing IF they went anywhere with this successfully, but the tragedy of the situation is undercut by everything about the game being terrible and hard to take seriously, especially Sonelise.
Why the heck was Mincemeat and Strange, Isn't It on the bracket? Both are amazing lines!
I like to headcanon that the Wave Ocean quote is just a really awkward, newbie G.U.N agent on his first day. I know it was unintentional but I just love the concept.
i think the "strange isn't it" is a translation thing. i'm not great at japanese, but i assume it's the japanese particle "ne" which is roughly translated to "isn't it," or "right?" and can go on the end of a sentence. however in english, the translaters botched it by trying to put that as part of the english quote instead of just letting that nuance disappear.
“That tornado’s carrying a car!”

“That tornado’s carrying a car!”
If you ever do another one I hope you include some Sonic Lost World quotes because that one definitely has some good contenders
haven't finished the vid if "i wonder what happened to sonic" aint here im microwaving myself
You guys forgot the
"- Look! There's ramps!
- We can use these as ramps!" in Sonic boom
I think I actually get the "On our way to the Ark" bit. The first part is Sonic saying be and whoever else is on the ship and "I guess that means WE'RE going too" is referencing him and Shadow.
"It's not just a race but a race to see who's the fastest!" -Dr Egg man (300 iq btw)
