Mike is right about the translation, EinHander means one hander in German. This game also calls the police Polizei which is what the German call the police. Polizei has to be the most badass name to call the police.
Please play MUSHA for Genesis, Robo Aleste for Sega CD and Android Assault also for the Sega CD(Also known as Bari-Arm) in later episodes, great underrated games.
Man, I still own this. Bought it first day. Amazing game and soundtrack.

For people who might have this game, or might be thinking of trying to find it in the future, I'm going to put down a helpful tip I seem to remember from playing it myself. Possible location of a secret weapon below:
With that midboss on the ceiling with the falling trash that appears right before you fight Gustav (the green triangular mech with the treads): If you can manage to shoot every last piece of trash that falls out after defeating the ceiling part of it, a secret weapon should descend from it to collect afterward. I don't know if it's the same weapon every time, but I can remember it drops the Juno, which is enormously helpful. It's like a souped-up version of the Vulcan. It makes crowded sections of the game much more manageable, such as the part with the water where poor Mike was dying (that section is challenging).
There are other secret weapons in the game, but the Juno in particular is so helpful it's a game-changer. Good luck!
Found this game complete in a $15 PlayStation box with the console along with MM X4 a few weeks ago
I introduced my boyfriend to this game. I used to play this with my brother on a playstation demo disc (If anyone remembers that), and we as kids could not get passed the 3rd level/boss. It took my boyfriend 2 days of nonstop playing to finally beat it. This is one of my top favorite playstation games and I recommend it to anyone. I wish they would make a remaster some day.
I got hype AF when I saw an einhander ship in KH3
And its a usable Mirage in WOFF too.
This game is like the perfect example why checkpoint shooters are much harder than the ones that respawn players.
This was my first of 3 games i owned on the PS1. One of my favorites. An instant classic.
That sound comes from the original Xcom Ufo Defence(Enemy Unknown in UK) It is the sound a sectoid makes when it dies from getting it's dome piece ventilated by heavy plasma. Also all of the voice over in Einhander is in German. Einhander means one handed. It refers to the arm on the ship that holds and swaps your weapons from top to bottom.
This game kicks some serious ass! Would love to have it on the switch! Maybe a remaster with some Bonus crap thrown in!!
Best shmup ever. Hands down. I especially love Mike's face at the end lol, he got completely obliterated.
What a hidden gem this game is. I use to play this EVERYDAY back in my youth. Any time I talk to gamers and we reminisce on awesome older games, I always make it a point to give this one credit. Most of the time though, they've ever played it!
yea a large majority of the time people have never heard of it. they're even more shocked to learn Square made it usually

i LOVE this game. i still have a modded psp just so i can still play my ps1 rip of einhander. one of the greatest shmups of all time.
I stumbled across this game while trying to find a strange rpg I once played on PS1. I rented this one thinking it might be it because the name was similar. It wasn't the game I was looking for but still it was a fun shoot em up. The game I was trying to find was Ehrgeiz and this video just reminded of it.

Hey Mike, this I think is the best shooter of all time. I played it so many times getting so many different alternate routes etc. I only never got the red Selene ship. I know you can do it because you're a far better game player than me. Thanks for the stream as always Mike.
This game is awesome. I still have my copy tucked safely away. I'm watching at work with no volume, but I assume that this is the sort of game that would be right up Mike's alley. The difficulty is brutal, but not in an unfair way. It's just a good ol' fashioned hard space shooter.

Absolutely fantastic shooter & one of my fav games on the PSX. WAY underrated & not talked about enough!! Graphics are phenomenal for the time and the gameplay is awesome and varied w/the different ships you can select. If you beat the game enough, you can select guns in the beginning of the game for each slot.

I remember buying this as a kid. Didn't it come with an adapter that made the directional pad into a joystick?
I played the demo of this game back in 2010.
I managed to beat this years ago after quite a bit of practice and learning the right weapons. I sadly lost the game at some point in one of many moves. I have a sneaking suspicion that someone stole it from me. So many hidden bonuses and items too. I THINK I used the one that lets you switch between three gun pods one at a time.

Hey Mike, PS1 has RGB already in the console so you don't need to mod it. You can just get a PS1 RGB scart cable as well, and you would want either composite on video as sync or luma on sync, though I heard luma on sync is preferable.

Einhander is the best! It's the only PS1 game that I still own.
Mastering the speed changes is essential. Some parts of the game you need to maneuver at slow speeds. To beat the submarine I use the Hedgehog, Riot works too. It's a very challenging game!

I never had a PS1 or played much of it at all but this game looks dope.
Edit: The look of it is like a mix between Fifth Element and Blade Runner.

Einhänder is german and means one-handed like a dagger is one-handed. A Greatsword is a Zweihänder (two-handed).
Anyway, don´t know why this game is called Einhänder...
Named after a ship that can be piloted with only one hand. (Real or in game fictional, I don't know)
I'm pretty sure it refers to the ship having that manipulator arm.
