    I was a warrior back in the day and it was a huge rush to be tanking a giant boss in a corner while having 10 clerics chain healing you and everyone hoping you don’t die while your health bar flickers like a light bulb ready to die

    23 years ago I enter Kelethin as a lvl 1 Wood Elf Ranger. Orc Hill, Towerr of Crushbone/Throne Room are still magical in my mind.
    End up Full Giant Armor with Temple of Veeshan Gear and Participated in many first one of the original serverst, E’ci. Was fortunate to Raid with Uber Guild, …Reconstructed…the Rangers of that guild even allowed me in their private Ranger Guild chat(I was the only player w/ this privilege). I had a standing invite with them but oddly I stayed independent. Thanks to the Rangers of Reconstructed.

      I played on E'ci as well. I was in a guild with a bunch of co-workers and friends called Crystalline Sphere, later to merge with another guild and rename ourselves Destiny Awaits. A bunch of us worked for Electronics Boutique at the time and when they finally convinced me to start playing I think Kunark was just launching. I rolled a Wood Elf Druid and promptly made the decision to trek from Greater Faydark to Qeynos to level. Because I would get lost like crazy. So many good memories from playing that game with my co-workers and friends that I'll never forget.
      I agree that Luclin ruined the game. Then PoP completely destroyed my main source of income as a Druid which was porting.

    • @johnrodgers8457
      @johnrodgers8457 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      In PoP my guild was elemental planes but not quite plane of time and I mained a ranger. My alt was a very decked out iksar monk.
      20s to 50s he was basically best in slot. Fungi, amygdaen war mask, cloak of crystalline waters for 36% haste ect.
      At 52 I stopped leveling and grinded out about 20 AA for things like being able to bandage to full and some defense stuff.
      By 56 I had the Monk epic, flayed barb skin leggings and ornate armor from the planes. I was soloing in the plane of justice next to full groups and I was keeping up with their pace and had less downtime.
      So yeah a monk with the right gear can solo mobs better than some groups but there was a heavy dependence on gear. My twink had better gear than any lvl60 and most 65s. Just goes to show how overpowering you can get with the right gear.

    I miss playing this game. With headshot, I would say the best class for exp during the max level around 90-95 ish was the ranger. I could get anybody plvled so long as they could get exp in my group and 1000s of AAs within a week or so. With the knock back root / WS I was able to pull/Tank the highest lvl zones in the game since I could plvled my own AAs to 14k. Although he was a beast I would have to say the best character In groups I played was shaman. The shaman just came natural for me.

  • @pychohobo1832
    @pychohobo1832 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Original.
    Best class is druid.
    Hard at very low levels, but once they get there dots and sow ( later wolf form) they can easy solo to 50. Which is the top level. Quad kiting. Plus you can teleport your self.
    MAGE is also really good. And probley the best class for someone just starting. Because they solo great. And are cheap to level. They get food and drink spell early. Best for highest mobs soloing. Sometimes two mobs med while med is attacking.
    Ranger is really good. If it follows the original up dates. Ranger were power houses. Kiting
    Necro is ok. But can be hard to play if you don't understand them. Fear kiting.
    Note. Soloing past lv 5. You will never match something equal to you. Also a HUGE key is numbers. If you can kill 5 blues in the time it takes you to kill 1 higher level. You will get more xp. And if you can kill non stop low blues. You will get the most xp.
    Also you will find you get more xp soloing lowbies then grouped fighting reds
    Rogue are very fun to play, but hard to solo. Just keep doing low xp mobs. Back stab.
    If you want to always be in a party choose cleric or chanter. But parties can be hard to find.
    So waiting hours to group and kill mobs. You lose a lot of xp.
    This is why you should go solo.
    Btw worst class is SK. Which is sad because I really like thier whole idea.
    If you want A good mix of solo and group choose Shaman. Dots and kiting once you have sow.
    War and pally. Group dependant. But are really slow soloers
    Did I leave anyone out?
    Oh yes wizards and bard.
    Ok wizard can be good solo, but like Necro you have to have the nack.
    Bards are jack of all master of none. And watch playing music around guards. They can be good at solo or very bad.
    Both are good in groups.
    Race.
    Pick something with good eyesight. Or deal with it until you can kill willowwisp and get light stone lv. 12?
    Evils are fun, but KOS is not. And all evils have areas other evils are KOS. So good is best.
    Bad thing is class may limit race.
    Oh how many time my barb Shammy was stuck in tunnels to and from Black Burro, because he couldn't see, and some knoll beats on him and kills him because he can't see to fight back.
    Things you should take up
    Fishing, for those long boat rides and waiting for boat.
    Smithing to make banned armor
    Shammy alchemy once you can.

      @xkallubar 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      How dare you call SK the worst class! Best group tank in the game, it can solo better than warriors and rogues, and it's also a decent puller! Solo xp as an SK is pretty bad but sometimes you can actually get decent xp from it. Definately not the worst class but definately low down on the list when it comes to dps. Though with pet, dots, and constant smacking you can actually get better dps than warriors in some cases.

    You will have to start with a solo Caster Mule . then Start a Melee if you want a tank main. (And you don't box , I run 1 toon at a time- this is how it was done in the old days with Dial-up LOL) So on the Next TLP I will start with Sham . Shams at low level don't solo well but Alchemy will help and then those Potions to main tank (also supply's you with a early game income , selling Potions to other players. Once you get Pet Upgraded DOTS , Heals and Slo . around 32-35. Then you can Solo . And be a Mule for your Tank main. Necro is also a sold Solo Class , and Druids and of Course Mages . Next TLP is sometime in May hope to see ya all there.

    I played back in 99 when EQ first released. My main was an ogre shaman. I soloed probably 70-80% of the time I played. I only got to around 50 or 55 before I stopped playing, but it was actually a lot of fun. My secondary character was an ogre warrior. He was a lot harder to solo with, so I did a lot more grouping with him. Got him to about 35.
    I also played a troll shadow knight (around 25) and a dark elf necromancer (around 20). I tinkered with a gnome magician, an iksar monk, a wood elf ranger and a human bard, but found those classes a lot harder and/or less interesting.

    Necromancer. No game has ever reproduced the feeling of power and evil I felt with my EQ necromancer in lich form soloing ice giants from 25 years ago. When I joined a guild I pretty much had to switch to my tank because no one wanted my necro when I had a badass tank alt. I was basically forced to play the class I hated because I was decent at it and my poor necro rotted away. I remember being yelled at for not rolling on items because I considered my tank my alt and the GM refused to accept it. “your our main tank there is no way I’m going to let you claim a necro as your main now roll idiot.” Lol

    I played Bard in original release - you’d never believe how much people wanted bard song buffs and bard run speed, but omg, this class was set up to give you repetitive stress disorder because you had to “twist”, as in keep hitting 3 keys every few seconds to maintain 3 songs for your group, and 4 if you were extra twisty. But speed, so wanted as this game took forever to traverse. But a fun class to play apart from the repetitive stress.

    Curious, did PoS ever get the pathing bug fixed? Use to run raids there, pre-kunark. Biggest issue was pathing and aggro. Mob aggro would happen even when the mob was flying far above you. Also, did P99 keep the Bee weapon in game. Talk about making a Paladin OP. Was nerfed out after maybe 6 people got it (across all servers). At the time it was like a 6/12 weapon (probably wrong on that). But with the weapon bonus, it was hitting at hard as weapons from planes of power, but came out in vanilla. It was I think an 18/12 weapon in vanilla EQ - with maxed skill, was incredible.
    Was happy to see rogue on the list, almost thought you would bypass them. Early EQ, I'd call rogue maybe the top class. Imagine a raid with 2 well equipped warriors, 20 rogues, a few bards for songs, 1 Shaman, 1 Druid, 1 enchanter, 3 SK for debuffs, 1 Paladin, Beastlord didn't exist yet - so skipping that, and a handful of clerics in rot. Rogues were out DPSn Wizards. Why they didn't rank higher in a list that seems to focus solely on dps in raids?
    A monk can solo more than almost any class, unless they kite. But not a single kite class was included before melee classes. So melee alone, and solo; monks win. They could pull, and in certain situations you even needed a monk pull chain. But raid talk and on bosses alone, rogues were at least second best if not the best class.
    Played a monk, my fan boy attitude of the rogue class is based off what I saw. Between Luclin and PoP I was in the top 5 monks on all servers and I also led a great many early raids before Kunark was a thing (I was second on my server with Monk epic 1.0 - Thank you Hoss for doing the raid for me - when I was not a member). So, I think these question can be seen as valid.
    What the F is a Sizable Satchel? I remember Tear'dal bags, which I farmed and supplied an entire server (not that I expect anyone to know this, but I farmed the pyramid for skins and it would take on average 6 hours to get a skin and you needed two and made the bags with tailoring - for the small chance someone would know this). I remember Treasure Hunters Satchel and the other dragon bag (can't remember which Naggy had and which Vox had), but Sizable Satchel - not even trying anymore are you? Those bags had 8 or 10 capacity, and with the haversach and EE bag made the monk. WTF, 40 capacity and 100% redox. Sad.
    Ranger, has run speed buff? F, it's called Sow and doesn't work in all dungeons. Must be outdoors, right?
    Lastly, Luklin? Sorry Luclin?
    Yeah, this video irritates me. Be someone who saw Velious drop and need to upgrade from 64 MB of ram to 124 to not lag constantly. Then here this guy say how things were? I played this game when Sony owned it (Qeynos - backwards is SonyEQ - yeah he probably didn't even know that). I went through Velious selling the 7th Coldain ring MQ (as a well geared monk could solo to that point).
    Speaking as someone that has gone through 99% of what he talks about, be a rogue or a cleric. You wont ever want for a group. If you are ok with a bit of time wasted, be LFG as a Warrior or Monk or Enchanter. If you want a guild, be a rogue. No guild will turn down a rogue that can spend the time needed to do the pre-stuff for an epic. Epic 1.0 isn't that hard after the solo stuff is done.
    Want to suffer un-ending torment on your epic, be a cleric trying to get the guy in Naggy's lair (Spent over 70 hours awake here, to use my older monk to pull a train and kill people who tried to steal the camp) - but you can still be guilded before you get an epic as a cleric - or be the monk that spends unending hours in Lower Guk (literally camped that spot for 112 hours without sleep before I got my pipe) - to become slightly better than a monk with a Jade Mace and KD.
    Want to kite, be a druid, bard, or Wizard. Want to dominate things you shouldn't, be an enchanter (and charm things you shouldn't).
    Want to waste countless hours of time, go to PoM and solo a furry midget that has a drop table that is similar to Alice in Wonderland or the Chessboard. Cards for the win (if the author of this video understands the above where I said he wouldn't, and even if he does that there is no chance in H that he understands what I am talking about now - even though I gave him a hint by saying cards for the win).

    I think I’ve finally made up my mind about class choices whence I start back up on mischief or the new TLP in April/may thanks to your many detailed long form videos about the state of game and classes!….. Mage for soloing/dps and having fun because their pets are sick and OP. Bard for some melee dps and group buffs/run speed/group necessity which I enjoy and will probably always have a group and a Cleric because they are OP and I like healing and again grouping which I’m sure I’ll always have a group and won’t have to worry about soloing… My only question is about Zerkers, you mentioned they are DPS? I come more so from EQ 2 and there Zerkers did great dps but we’re like Godly instoppable AoE Tanks/Dps at the same time. But in Eq 1 they can’t tank or do both? They are just purely physical DPS? Thanks and greatly appreciate all your vid’s and time to make them! Cheers.

      For high leveling populations, you got 2 main choices. You can go with an Early EQ emulated server for free called Project 1999 Green or you can pay to play on official servers that just started. Thornblade & Mischief servers. Project 1999 is more hardcore & exciting. Official servers are friendlier to casual grouping/raiding play and time commitments. They have a lot of quality of life features that cut down time sinks.

    on tlp classic....the best groups for speed leveling are Enchanter, cleric, mage, mage, mage, mage. Enchanters are the best in classic as they still have top dps in leveling even with the 30 percent charm nerf. Monks are deadly and compete for that top dps with out needing much gear and using just their hands. Cleric are still the go to healers as CH is only needed for those Hole and planar charms. Everyone loves mages while leveling though they are useless in raids because of Mitigation of the Mighty on raid targets. Shamans are very good if you like buffing. Raids are buffing, slowing, and spot healing. Necromancers find themselves in a weak spot , they are still the solo king but solo is trash on tlps and is very slow. Paladins, rogues, rangers, and wizards arent very good in classic. Druids are good because of being a healer but when it comes to raids they just become taxis....Through it all leveling and raids...Enchanter probably becomes top class for all the things they can do in classic. You need them in leveling groups, they are top dps with their charms, and you need them in raids. Cleric will be your top healing spot as they complement the enchanters, they can survive heal agro with their divines, Monk is also a top class as they do not need much gear, a good monk can out dps a enchanter's charm, they are the pulling king by split pulling with feign death....A runner up class would go to SK and Bard as they are also needed.

    Classic: Monk. They were OP compared to rogues, even subpar wars to the point of embarrassment. Unless you have a 12/13 poker (GL) as there are 2 in classic, 1 very hard to get. Shamans maybe ENC in Kunark. Shamans hands down in Velious once they have Torpor, Malo, Fungi (dont go Ikky same regen as Troll) & can't use bracer clicky). Go to 0
    P99 and see what shamans can solo. Golems in PoF, no shit. Hierophant is easy, Tranix is easy (done it myself many times). Just a broken class, so fun. Torpor really taking the cake.
    Rogue is my favorite class though.
    I MEAN CLASSIC, not whatever garbage they've done to game these days. Cheers.

      Game is so different now. 20 years ago I was one of the only / first high level monks on my entire server, and I remember no one really knew how powerful the class was or could be, and having people freak out when they saw how hard I punched. Towards the end of Velious when the monk mitigation nerf hit, I found myself playing my Rogue more than my Monk simply because it felt like both characters were relegated to damage dealing, but my Rogue had higher damage, and was just more fun to play because there wasn't really any loot restrictions, and monk gear/weapons were super hard to come by on my server. Monks were still way better at solo'ing and pulling of course, and even now when a new P99 server launches, Rogue is probably one of the worst classes to main because they're so gear dependent, but have no real way of farming plat.

    Enchanter is also a top tier puller atleast through Luclin since they don't have to stick around for DPS and have infinite mana without medding due to low cost of spells. They pull much more efficiently than monks do. If you have a class that can SoW them then they are also better than Bards. When pets were allowed to tank Enchanter was the #1 group tank, #1 group DPS, and #1 group puller lol.

    Early on a brand new TLP, I would have to say Enchanter, Cleric and maybe Bard because they all provide either something no other class can provide and/or are just so good at what they do (Cleric) that no other class can really replace them in groups.
    Cleric because it is OP at healing and every group or raid will want one or even multiple. Seriously, since a Druid or Shaman is all you really need for heals in most group content, the OP healing of a Cleric makes group encounters trivial. Also if your just healing, gear isn't all that important on a Cleric and all you need to really focus on is Wis and Mana. Since they are so damn good at healing, they tend to be the most vital class for a group because no group can run without a healer. Finally, since a healer is a required class, it is very easy to start your own group if you can't find one.
    Enchanter is also very good because it is also one of the least gear dependent classes at least as soon as you get Charm and Clarity. Charm gives you amazing DPS with very little mana usage and Clarity boosts your mana regen rate. As far as grouping, even if the players in a group don't realize all the tools you can bring to the group, everyone wants you if for no other reason than you have Clarity, Mez and Haste.
    Bard because of its unique buffs and mechanics. It, like the other two, are also not that dependent on gear as most songs work just as well naked as fully kitted out.
    The rest of the classes are just filler. Wiz, Mage, Rogue, Monk are all interchangeable DPS though the Monk will get some love due to its pulling capability. Shaman and Druid tend to just be looked at as a back up healer though Shaman gets some love when slows become important. War, SK and PAL are all interchangeable Tanks. Necros just get no love in a group, last choice all the time though since I finally played one to high level on a TLP, I have realized they bring a lot more to the group that most people suspect.

    • @garrett3117
      @garrett3117 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Disagree with some, but most people don't realize a necro can mezz (anything) at like 34. Up to level 50 or 54 mobs iirc. Absolutely useful. In guk, charm undead to break an empty camp, + lull. If you want that FBSS, a good necro can be just as good as an enc or better as they can EASILY solo it like I did many times. Then made a shm for farming and undisputed king. Cheers.

  • @eideticex
    @eideticex ปีที่แล้ว

    Looking at just how many classes are mana dependent really makes the case for out of combat regen. I remember it took around 20 min to regen early on then each expansion climbed to 40 min with kei. Raids went from 4 to 6 attempts a night depending on how many wipes to 2 to 3 attempts in the time it would take to do just one. Mana is so huge for any class that depends on it.

    The problem with Shamen is that it's an easy class to box. They're not important enough to need to be mained and having a pocket healer that never runs out of mana is handy. As you pointed out, early on they're needed for buffs, but since all their buffs for the first few expansions are single target, having some pocket shamen in a raid is a convenience. And a few classes can take advantage of having a pocket shaman to make a really low maintenance boxed duo.

Enchanters are terrible soloers and very one-trick pony in groups as they provide little damage, but are incredibly desired for their specific utility.
