I've enjoyed all of your videos over the years. From one dad to another... It is definitely a lifestyle change and the ability to play EQ for more than an hour here and there is hard to come by. Once the kiddo sleeps through the night and has a normal schedule (2 years old?), you can start to have some hobby time back.

I mean some people are 1 and done, but it’s an exception and not a rule. 4 years of baby grind is what I’d prepare for…I played EQ since 99 until 02 when I joined navy. I came back to EQ thru live free play and then hated it and found p99. I wish red server was as active as blue, but alas, the same mechanics that you praise leave us with horrible pvp balancing. I hated bards above all else. They had super combos only available to mega nerds who understood how to write a script and not just have a clever keybinding. Mega Nerds empowered by fastest movement enhancement…My God how they loved to flex. Swoop up every mob in the zone and then start pvping you. If he don’t get you…well, that mega train sure as hellfire will…
I’ve raised two kids. Stepson whose dad suicided after a crack relapse. And my blood daughter who was vaccine damaged and has something similar to avoidance OCD. Happiest most well adjusted daughter at age 2 and after MMR at age 3 she became inconsolable and refused to wear clothing until the age of 5. Anyway, I mention that to encourage you to vaccinate your child after the blood brain barrier has been established around the age of 5.
Anywho, anyone attentive enough to play bard is gonna make a great dad. Congrats homeskillet. Whenever you ready to come back make a vid and a discord/whatever channel and I’ll join you in a casual campaign to beat EQ. The kind where the journey is way better than the destination. Btw, I never maxed leveled in EQ classic. I was too busy wandering, pvping and RPing. I was a member of the royal family of dark elves. Shanel Zek, a cousin to the King. I had to get special GM approval to get my last name as Zek.
My buddy started the first cross teaming guild in all of EQ. It was wildly popular and was a noob friendly guild that spent hours upon hours supporting noobies. My buddy sold his account for thousands of dollars when he quit to pay for law school. He only plays FPS games now. AA for gamers. Never again an MMO for him…lol

I have played MMO's for many, many years and the one constant is, I just miss playing occasionally. Don't say goodbye forever, come back and say hello every once and awhile. Your videos (and you) deserve a great deal of respect. I understand significant life changes realign perspectives and priorities. I just hate the idea of another EQ icon being gone forever. Really enjoyed this series, I have looked forward to each episode before it was released. Only started watching your channel recently and it’s honestly the best one for capturing the EQ experience from so many perspectives. Allows me to relive the nostalgia when I used to play back in 1999, it was a brilliantly addictive experience (up until GoD!). Congratulations on your news and there is no better journey than the one you are about to embark upon however, selfishly, I hope you continue to make some videos as they are the best ❤️

i find it very interesting how everyone has their own little moment or expansion that EQ died for them, Ha ha! For me it was the Luclin models. I really like beastlord too and some of the luclin zones and planes of power stuff. But those Luclin models, man. I knew the golden days were over

Man, I've been watching your vids for years. I played EQ classic as a kid, and I've hopped on p99 a few times, but I really just enjoy the stories you tell. Even the negative stuff is interesting. Congrats on the kid! I do hope you come back to make videos though.

Thank you for all the content you've given us through all your adventures and guides! I've dipped in and out of Everquest since PoP but NEVER had more than a couple of hours a week since little ones came along. It's still nice to check in every now and then though :)

They need to make a Luclin locked server
Actually talks about P99 in this. 2 of the 6 solutions are specifically for P99.
IMO Named mobs should be just like Epic mobs, the 1st to engage it locks to that person, it will stop the kill steal, DPS steal. I'm a paladin, Paladins do no DPS, but yet I'll be tanking the mob, and someone will come and out dps me and take the mobs loot/xp while I tank it for them. it's BS and needs to be fixed. Thats my one gripe about TLP's
Yeah that's a different way to fix it :) The loot locked * thing they added.
I do not think instancing is the answer to P1999. I think they need to reduce the spawn timers so raid mobs are on a 24 hour spawn and not a 7 day spawn. However if you were on a raid to kill say Nagafen, you get locked out for 7 days. This way other guilds have an opportunity to raid without Kingdom or Stealteam taking all the raid bosses.
That's another way & probably more doable. Don't need extra server infrastructure. 24hr repops would be awesome. Thanks for that suggestion.

Scarcity directly affects rarity over time. Rarity based on time is REQUIRED.
So if you want to do it based on skill, you'll have to up the skill to a level that most players won't be able to do it. Plus it's VERY hard to do this well in game design.

Honestly, I play on Wayfarers haven now. I have more fun there than I did on P99 or on live. Really enjoying my EQ experience on this server

AA rewards would have to be pretty massive to make it worthwhile to shroud down to do things. It is so trivial to earn AAs these days.

My son is about to turn 19 and I remember playing the original EQ back in 99 and honestly I've played Live for almost every expansion except these past 4 years.
So many great memories you made me relive with your video series. I never played TLP, mainly because I just don't have that kind of time anymore. Live was still good enough to scratch that itch, but it is definitely a different beast. Appreciate all your videos and good luck!

@@IonBlaze1 Yeah, I was pretty involved with RedGuides under the name Noobhaxor. I wrote most of the auto macros that many folks use or use a macro based on it. Most of the bad actors when it comes to boxers on truebox is from that "bugs" website. RG and the official MQ2 community made an agreement with Daybreak to ensure MQ would NOT work on Truebox / TLP servers. Disheartening to see it bypassed, but I knew that would eventually happen.
I've been white hat on EQ since 2010 in House of Thule. Had some guy warp on top of a named I was camping and killed it. That was when I became vocal in many of the MQ / RG posts and made a point to put my 2 cents on discontinuing Warp, Piggyzone, and many of packet injection plugins that folks were using to do these things.

Again, great video but you seem to mention something often about Live (TLP) vs P99. That is, you cant progress ( in P99) and all the work you do is completely worthless. Wouldn't that hold true with TLPs? I think most TLPs become dead servers. More so than P99 servers IMO. And I believe most TLP players rinse and repeat every year, leaving their old character to rot on whatever server the TLP merged with. IDK, just my dumb thoughts. Keep the videos coming!!
You can transfer TLP characters to live servers.
Literally everyone in this game has kids. Kids are probably in like, the top 10 reasons groups break up.

I got 1 good way to fix Everquest. Lol... Let it die. I mean, if you're still whining about it... you're the abuser in the relationship. 23 years... and you still want more from it and all they ask for you is to play them. And pay a monthly membership($15) along with an optional ($5)perk status... That's [kind of...] more than World of Warcraft.

If you were gonna transfer from P99 to live they would have to figure out what to do with some items like mana stone. im unsure if theyre even WORTH it anymore on live, but it's still something they have to consider.
honestly imo if they want to fix EQ then they need to
A: Permanently ban all multiboxers and hackers and hire active admins to handle this
B: level cap parties. all player levels would be capped to the lowest level player, people above the level cap get 300% experience boosted to their AA pool.
C: remove the tradeable currency to stop RMT idiots. it's nice to have it as a method for trading for items, but since it's ruining the game and people trading EQ like a money making engine and not a game is ruining the fun.

I am playing on live right now. stuck at lvl 116 as a cleric. only way to get xp solo is to complete collection achievements for 2% each and overseer. Devs need to increase the amount of xp mobs give when hunting versus how much hp they have. there is no reward to grinding xp anymore. BTW, I havent seen a krono farmer on Mangler in forever, the atmosphere is much more enjoyable. I suggest you come back and contact Hella Darkness. a lot of your old guildmates from Midnight Rations is there, i see them all the time.

What drives me nuts with current live EQ is the constant re-releasing of old zones but rather than evolving/changing the existing world they just create a new one. Let the world grow & evolve if that means old zones become higher level so be it, create a system so that players can go back to an instance of the original version via a portal in Plane of Time if needed to complete old quests. By evolving zones rather than re-inventing separate copies of zones you end up with less dead zones. It's true low level is dead on live, we need another expansion like TSS which includes content from lvl1 to max; if the devs were feeling really salty maybe have the original noobie zones smited by the gods funneling all played (and perhaps a few key quest NPCs) into a new starting area like crescent reach thus forcing more interaction

Im just casual player on live server. I log in, find something to do, could be crafting, fishing, farming tradeskill loot for my crafting, molo xp, and occasionally I or someone I know puts a cool group together and we kill something hard. I am often in private chats with friends I've made and I view EQ as a chat room with stuff to do. If I'm doing something and I dont like whats going on in the game, i just switch to an alt and do something else. DB definitely has some issues that they will be forced to address if they want to continue to exist. I think you have offered some excelent suggestions. Hope you hang around in EQ

I played on the PoP locked, but it was riddle with box armies and couldn't get groups...then tried out vaniki, and I didn't mind it, but after a bit i quit and basically uninstalled EQ again, but i'll get that itch and resub and go back, maybe.

They should do what Final Fantasy 14 does and allow higher levels to go down to lower level character's level if you group up with them and get xp towards AAs and give the lower levels an xp boost as well

@@IonBlaze1 basically it encourages higher lvl players to group with lower levels doing lower level content. You get currency that can be used for alt classes and crafting and lower levels get to progress through story and raids and get the same currency depending on level. If Daybreak did something like that it could help a lot

EQ PVP is just completely broken. As a shaman, I cannot land spells on actual players almost ever. If I actually do manage to do so, it can kill a player in one or two ticks.
Thank you for all the comments Beau. Yeah I don't know of any way to balance PvP fairly outside of letting people pick their own loadouts by shrouds. It'd be a fun way to play.

I last played on FV. Iksar Necro, I did a “self made” play style where I only used gear I looted….I NEVER saw another player until I was level 70.

EQ is a great game that lost it’s soul (imo) with planes of power and onwards. Now it’s just copy/pasta new expansions that double all stats….
I’d like to say that one day about a month ago I had a thought “man I never got to see any of the raid in EQ since I never got past 51.” Also I was crap warrior but for some reason I wanted to see if there were in EQ raid videos so I could actually see what they were like. EQ was a game I hated and loved but just got into as all my friend who had been playing it switched over to WoW so of course I followed suit but I always wanted to go back. Then I find this channel and man you have a great gift for story telling and building interest into a near cinematic scene. But your videos inspired me to just get back at it again (3 kids here btw) and just dabble in it when I can because I truly miss the pure mmorpg experience even though it’s definitely a smaller subscription base now but I just want to get on and give it a try without finding out I have to sink endless $ into it to experience the full game. Either way congrats on your big news! As a dad I can say there is nothing more important other than my wife, are my children. But EQ aside you have a true gift for story telling so use that going forward with your kids! Take them on grand adventures! I did it and it led to ample hrs of tales of Emmitt the brave and Eli the explorer… I’m not kidding.. years of stories based off games and other fantasy tales that they will just beg for more and more about. Use your skills bro and congrats again!

Dad here of two boys LOL and one is going to MS this year. hard to play EQ. Canceled EQ because as nice and slow as Yelinak was going still could not keep up LOL I need a TLP w/25 weeks each exp. lol. On another topic. Don't ya all get angry when boxers cry about new servers being tru-box? LOL ! They got Rizlona on 2020 ..full boxing rules and guess what ..it was dead!! So it shows that most players are not boxers!! And that most boxers on regular TLPs are actually ...there to grind Krono. So this Krono being bad good etc. goes back to DB not giving a crap about the players that actually want to group. IMO ..P99 has the grouping nostalgia on still. Waiting on that new server lol. Agnarr could be the P99 of DB if they actually remove it from the paywall!! They don't do it!!, and are letting a potentially great free server die on purpose !! I would play on Agnarr again if they remove the paywall. I think Agnarr is what P99 needs..those extra two expansions would be great..maybe P99 and DB can make a deal where after reaching max on p99 they can copy it to Agnarr? LOLThen again who knows what classic EQ is for each of us. For me is POP ..after that lost my taste for it. for some is the first 3 exp. And some even argue level 75 expansion was the end of Classic. LOL
I'll never understand Krono farmers. You can farm krono much faster than they do by working a minimum wage job and just buying it.

Shrouds can gain significant exp. I use my lvl 92 cleric (highest groupable shroud at lvl70). To to power level my 110s. gain aa when I'm free to play and can't gain aa... It's useless since I can't spend them (ftp).
I generally shroud to the level of the zone I want to pl myself with. You can get fairly medium exp from kurns tower at 100 being level 5. I was maxing all the shrouds and per kill leveled faster than level and exp of a very red con

You probably aren't supposed to gain aa once Max aa has been reached. But the number of kills does seem to level faster than the level of kill. In shroud form.
As the shroud in kurns the shroud kills it at lvl 5 shaman pl....at 70 the 92 cleric clears all of griegs before respawn. Longer to kill kurns but seemed to progress shrouds faster. Exp for mains was 5% to clear kurns twice as a 100... Really not that bad given the effort ... Griegs just offers better loot with 10k per clear
Thank you for the video. Having played EQ as a teenager but not getting far, I've always wanted to replay it on Project 1999 or a TLP. Really what I'm looking for is to re-*live* it, the way it felt when it was more of a virtual world to live in rather than just a game. I've done a couple TLPs up to level 50, once on Coirnav as a warrior and once on Mangler as a necromancer. I really enjoyed it both times, but somehow couldn't get going when Kunark came out, barely getting far enough to figure out the new dungeon keys and giving up soon after. I think it's because I didn't have a social circle that I could fit in. Making one is hard because I work rotating shifts so I will always miss some raid days no matter what they are. I played Yelinak up to 35 as a cleric, hoping that it would be different this time and I could find somewhere to fit in as a social player and persist through the expansions and see all the things I never got to. It's sad to think that TLPs are a slow death of ever-fewer people logging in every day that eventually dwindles away. In short, like the theme of your video, I'd like to play EQ but I'm not sure what the best way is for me.
Good luck with your new adventure. I am certain that you will be successful in it, no matter how challenging it feels sometimes, because of the even temperament you display in your videos.

For old world Fear, the best way to clear it with a guild is to do AOE and massive pulls. Clerics protect the casters, enchanters rune the casters, and anyone with aoe stun chain casts. The melee? They are SOL.

Glad I randomly decided to search up some classic EQ vids to keep me company at work today! What a treat to relive the TLP experience, along with your great editing and storytelling. I'm an old-time vet of EQ beta, Live (to Luclin) and the Fippy Darkpaw TLP (also to Luclin; did you play this one?). While I was also in a top guild on Live for Classic/Kunark/Velious, I'd have to say that playing on Fippy was the most challenging and rewarding experience I think I'll ever have in gaming, both of which for so many reasons beyond what someone looking on from the outside might think. Everquest is so much more than 'just a game', and real relationships are nurtured in the midst of the grind, drama, successes, and failures. Cheers and all the best in the next chapters of life.

You're absolutely right lol. Sometimes I forget not to get mad at a 20+ year old pixel simulator.
As a huge fan of the game, and having played it from 99-2011, They lost a main account which made me walk away. But!! I wanted to restart playing again and streaming it, but they aren't supporting Mac users.. I tried playing and zoning was horrible. I'd love to play the full content of the game again..
POF was always a giant nightmare to get into. I lost almost 2 levels on one raid trying to just get to the wall.

@@IonBlaze1 We never did the raid that night either it ended up being a 6 hour CR. We had a full raid of 76 and it took the monks and necros that long to recover the bodies to safe place.
The only thing worse than that was having to go back and do all the PoP key mobs again for a few months after tons of peeps left EQ when WoW came out. We were just about to finish PoT when that happened.

My dad once told me a story about a Fear raid he went on when Fear released. Apparently, when everyone zoned in, they were instantly dragged across the zone and killed, the whole raid wiped. So they called a second guild to help them. Unfortunately, both of their efforts were laid to rest forcibly. So they begged a guide to help, and both guilds eventually convinced guides to get them all their corpses and gear back.
I don't know for sure, but I'm pretty sure my dad was a Ranger in that story you told near the beginning of the video.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who seeks revenge after being KS'd. I was in a group in Unrest on Mischief, when another group moved in with a high level Druid to get PL'd, but they basically plopped down right in front of us and started KS'ing our group. Okay? I logged on my Rogue and literally started killing every mob in the entire zone, and KS'ing them, and the had the audacity to call me the most toxic person they've ever met. It's just like... how can these people be so dense? You literally moved in, took our camp, and then started making fun of us. Now I'm toxic for returning the favor?
9:23 So many quality of life changes could be made. Other games give out rewards for many different things such as just logging in daily. It would be nice if Everquest could do the same. I could go on and on in details about many other QoL changes they could implement but it would end up taking a few posts.
Here's my flaws:
1) awful dated graphics, very old.
2) Terrible old interface, desperately needs updating
3) Incredibly few quests, leveling is almost exclusively killing hosts of monsters over and over and over and over and over and... you get the idea
4) Time sinks. These were implemented to make it feel more "real" (it takes ages to get anywhere) and that's okay but honestly people don't have hours to play every day. Leveling is painfully slow, and I don't know if they have fixed hell levels or not but that's another issue.
5) Class design issues. Certain classes need fixing in a bad way
6) old, limited game engine allows only certain kinds of builds, concepts, quests, encounters, equipment, skills, etc.
Dude, you make watching EQ a lot of fun, I'm very entertained! Lots of nostalgia for me since 99. I should get back into playing it, I just feel servers are empty and hard to get help if I needed it.
The best way to fix everquest is to get back to it's roots.. make grouping and exploration/immersion the focus. What i'd do if i had control of the company.. 1) Get rid of Mines of Gloomingdeep as a 'universal' starting zone.. along with the subsequent zones in the hero's journey, making the original starting cities as the only option (best option for roleplaying/immersion) 3) Consolidate the player base by getting rid of certain races that are redundant or don't fit the traditional fantasy model the original EQ targeted.. personally i'd choose to get rid of the Drakkin, Froglok, Vah Shir, and Erudite (i'd merge them as 'humans').. maybe even Iksar 4) Make 'factions' important again (making 'good' race cities hostile to 'evil' races, etc).. along with this i'd get rid of certain universal zones like the Plane of Knowledge as they just kill the immersion having good/evil races working together. 5) I'd rework the quest system to really focus on quests in starting cities.. making them a hub for the players to go to in order to gain spells/abilities and learn their class. I really did enjoy learning about those low level quests back in the day.. but they never have been re-integrated back into the current quest tracking system which would've made things more interesting. 6) At about level 10+ i'd re-introduce the LDoN questing model for players to rely on for instanced dungeon grouping.. and expand the amount of zones.. maybe bring in other zones like Crushbone, Blackburrow, Upper/Lower Guk and Temple of Cazic Thule, etc. Also make it where you can have multiple mercenaries if you're unable to find a group to simulate one with. 7) I'd add more of a risk back to the game by making good weapons/armor harder to get, and eliminate certain sets like defiant, etc. 8) At the mid to higher levels of the game, i'd really focus on consolidating the amount of spells/abilities.. as there are just way too many now, unlikely most of them even being used.. There's really much more they could do.. but these are just a few ideas off the top of my head. They really have to focus on making the early game a priority, as it will help bring in some new blood possibly (well, as much as possible for a 20+ year old game) and make it more fun for replay going through the old zones again with friends.. i'd even slow down the exp gain rate to draw it out a bit.
I had an issue with another necro when I was farming Hill Giants.
I too was playing a Bard.
I would have been 100% fine if he was just killing giants, too.
But he'd dot up giants I was kiting, because he knew I couldn't out DPS him.
He was KSing cause he knew he could. yet we could have just shared the camp and I even told him that. He chose to just ignore me.
So, everytime he attacked a giant, I'd charm it.
A key to fixing Everquest is to be able to bring in a LOT of new players. The good news is that I know what would bring in MANY new players. Sadly, it isn't only having better graphics, although it would help. It also isn't opening up new TLPS with the same rule sets as with the normal games. Here are my suggestions for getting Everquest almost back to their original numbers....yes. I think this is doable with my suggestions:
1. Having better graphics using the Unreal engine is a good start. This will help in many ways including having a more efficient easy to use interface.
2. Having a new TLP that has FV rules and benefits and/or
3. Making the game MUCH more solo friendly. Everquest is primarily a group friendly game and solo unfriendly game, although it has gotten a bit better from a soloing perspective. Right now , most servers, for the most part, have their players at higher levels.. leaving the new , incoming lower level players to fend for themselves in a solo unfriendly game. Even worse, EQ only adds more of the same when they constantly open up TLP servers.
There are many approaches to making the game more solo friendly that could be tried such as giving powerful buff bots in POK and/or significantly reducing the aggro radius and social friendliness of mobs etc. Another approach, which is the one I like the most, is that they should allow up to two or three mercs,which would eliminate the need to box ( which is a problem) and eliminate the need for bots. These additions would make the game a LOT more solo friendly. I would also absolutely use the fast travel system found in EQ2 where you can click on a link in the map and go to that zone. I should note that instead of the crappy extra perks that they are providing for an extra monthly fee, they could provide those things, and also multiple mercs, as an added paid perk that could result in more revenue to Daybreak Games. Thus, we have a win-win situation.. Adopting all or at least some of these changes into the game mechanics would explode the number of new players in my opinion. Now, I do get that some of the older veterans may not like these ideas. However, I would be willing to bet that implementing any or all of these suggestions would work wonders. Simply doing more of the same by opening up new TLP servers with the same rules isn't going to attract many newer players.

Hate was my very first raid. Huddle close in the zone in.. stay away from the walls. What a blast as our guild began to conquer different raids. We weren’t anywhere near top tier but that first experience was crazy fun.
As a Ranger i camped the ancient cyclops in South Ro. He's a random spawn there, so there's no camp. Whoever tracks him fastest gets him. That's where I camped him to sell MQ for Jboots. It was the best option as a Ranger.
imo there should be no "rules" in a game, if the mechanic exists where you can pull aggro from someone then it's fair game and was meant to be otherwise it wouldn't be possible to do in the game if it was "against the rules", so dumb. This is just a great example of how the devs got it so wrong, they should of allowed grouping and shared drops or everyone who tags the mob gets shared loot or does a certain amount of damage. Honestly this rule only takes away the epicness of the game and the only reason why the GM's used to police the game was because people would complain on the forums and threaten to quit which is TERRORISM. Complainers should just quit the game if they don't like the mechanics and let real people play instead of letting the game be controlled by snowflakes. The game would have a lot more people playing if it was NO HOLDS BARRED, making it a truly EPIC game, not a care bear game like it is.

Look at runescape. That is the most boring game I have ever played in my life. But it's very active game because all the positive PR. You never hear negatives about it.....but you will literally stand in 1 spot with an auto clicker killing sand crabs bc its so boring lol

Were the Plane of Fear Golems Nerfed on TLP? Normally Terror does a Cold Based PB AE Cancel Magic. We accidentally pulled him once on P99 in TSS and we still had charmed pets. All the charmed pets broke instantly as soon as Terror made it into camp. The whole 120 Player raid wiped after that. You guys had charmed pets the whole time and they never broke charm. What's up with that?
On live, I'd chuck in some kind of Defiant+ Loot Algorithim. So a Short Sword of the Ykesha becomes a Defiant style weapon with Ykesha Proc. Basic armor drops can add stats, like a +5AC on defiant, varying by level, maybe give +1 hero stat on the most numerous stat.
Also they should just offer instances of any zone on request for paid accounts. If you can get a hotzone that isn't too ganked for you to get your daily done during the mid game grind, that's gonna sell some upgrades.
I never saw how these fights went back in 1999 as I didn't get into a proper raiding guild until Kunark. I was among the first to die on a server first Trakanon attempt on Luclin. I did experience these on emulators where I was hilariously overpowered. Thanks for the re-visit and nostalgia. Some of the EMU servers do good things to get you into the old zones, but they also disappear over time. So, I ran a horde of mobs over the top of people who invaded a camp of mine once. They had it coming, was back in SOE days and SOE did nothing to me. You could have killed Hasten PHs until the monk spawned ... haha, fun is over! Like you, the lower / mid leveling group experience was the absolute most fun with the best memories of long forgotten friends. Thanks for making these videos.

Side note: You played in Resurgence, probably the most toxic dps race zerg on the server. Yet every video you are complaining about DPS racing and people being toxic. Weird.
You didn't go too far, TLP are shitters train and KS them all Daybreak needs to step up and deal with toxic behavior and krono farmer the main reason I've never played a TLP server. As someone who played p99 I agree with you Instances are needed for normal people and normal guilds to enjoy and have fun.... Scarcity should not get in the way of player fun. There should be NO raid lock times, if a guild wants to raid all day long over and over again, let them its just a game. Imho if they made a TLP server with no raid lockout time AT ALL despite my hatred for TLP and daybreak I would actually play it
Not sure if you are aware, since you said you haven't played on a live server in a while, but the live servers now have instanced versions of old raid zones, complete with loot. I think the exp on trash mobs in these zones has been reduced a lot in order to keep people from using them as exp zones, but all the loot is there. I had fun earlier this year taking my 106 mage solo into Naggy & Vox, Fear, Hate, Kael, etc. Soloed the whole zone, each time. Didn't really get anything I could use, but picked up some twink gear. Fun for the nostalgia. I only play occasionally these days. I'll sub for a month or three (two accounts, I just two box mage/shammy), then drop sub and play something else, usually a single player game for several months. I always come back to EQ every year or two, just to see what's going on. But yea, live is a ghost town on lower level zones. Most people box.
I think the transferring service wouldn't be a good idea. Community and passion, at least in my eyes, is what keeps people playing expansion locked anything. I've played on a handful private mmo servers over the years from WoW ,FFXI, Phantasy Star Universe, EQ99 the list goes on and the major reason people play there is to have social friction positively as well as relive adventures. Like you've previously stated in your other videos, GMs on P99 police more than live servers. This is also true for most other private servers. You can transfer those who want to move on but I think once they are met with that social friction in the negative they will return. The culture is massively different and that's not something any studio can fix or change.
The biggest issue with everquest to me is the UI. its just, ugly, and horrible to use. if they next gen the UI without breaking the game it would be killer. Hoenstly I would love to a see a hybrid eq1/2 (2 has better UI but 1 has better gameplay) and then update with slightly newer graphics and textures, i mean the possibilities are endless. i dunno what daybreak is doing but they should have a new EQ3 by now for us to play....

You're dead on about Live. I try to box but just slows down so much and don't want to pump cash to make leveling efficient. It's too bad too because EQ is one of the only living MMOs that really plays on class identity and forces grouping, which is what got me into MMOs to begin with...
I've been binge watching your videos. I've played a Necro on P99 for a bit, and got to level 30 a few years back on a TLP as well. I keep wanting to go back to EQ but I want to raid and I know I will never get the opportunity in P99 with how competitive it is and no instances. Each time a TLP launches I think about it but I feel like TLP leveling is competitive and I'll have a hard time as a new player.
When Plane of Fear was revamped, our guild decided to try it. A new mob, Ireblind Imp, proceeded to spank us. We called in reinforcements and they wiped. Word went out and the #1 guild on Terris-Thule showed up to help out. It took a while to work out the strategy but they finally figured out the mechanics of that mob after also wiping out. We finally put together a huge raiding force consisting of most of the #1 guild and the guild officers of most of the other guilds that had been raiding that night. The number of corpses that were in the zone when we went back in was just unreal! Thanks for bringing back some memories with this video!
Fix 3: They used to have that with the shroud. The issue is it is so easy to cheese the system. For example, say that I want to max my aa on my warrior. I shroud down and then run with a Bard of a similar level. Use a high-level SK tank, and now my warrior is max aa in no time. Another one that used to be super fun is the alternate missions for a zone (where you have to pick from a pre-built to class and play thru). The issue here is the reward (being AA) is often not as good as taking AA in a new zone because you may get gear or spells (Especially early on in an expansion) that are worth more than the AA.
Fix 4: People don't raid to have fun they raid for loot. Helping new players with vox tends to be a poop show as an example. I will never be able to relive doing Vox in the era on a dial-up with 70 people, getting disconnected 3 times during the raid and loving that we took down a big beast. The way they did progression servers still doesn't have the same feel. Giving me 5 aa for something that may or may not happen depending on the players trying isn't worth the time or energy. Raids in EQ are a little different than other MMO's (Not so different from Mythic raiding in WoW). If people don't understand it is more of a military operation than do what you want nothing of value will happen.
In my opinion, the problem EQ has is it is an old game with a complex end game that typically requires a well-balanced raid on the live servers. For single players, outside of a few classes, there isn't much to do. Most people 3 box or higher that raid, because the player base has matured. I, for example, don't have time to wait in LFG for 30 mins - 1 hour only to get a spot and now I get 1 hour to play? Way easier to 3 box goto my spot hit 2 solid hours of advancement then raid on the nights we have.
They should add a system similar to the bazaar, but for helping people. buyers needing help, and sellers willing to help for a price. The price could be money, or something more dynamic, like experience, or Buyer trading exp to get a task done, and seller being paid in no-drop Kronos fractionals, or increased RNG luck for x amount of time

Would love to see some of the work done by the EQ Emu team over the years legitimized more beyond just getting the permission to run without consequence as long as it isn't monetized. Great programmers there, great staff to run things.

As soon as I saw you zerging PoF I knew you were with Resurgence, we use 40 players and clear all the content, we've beaten full raids of Resurgence in open world DPS races, I feel a guild like that has no soul, they're too big. Get a guild where you raid with 40-50 people and you'll enjoy the social aspect and the challenge way more.
I don't play any form of EQ currently but the original version of the game still fascinates me. I thought the purpose of P99 was to replicate how the game felt on release. While instancing would make the game more "accessible", it would destroy one of the most unique aspects of the game which other MMO's gradually tossed away.

"All efforts should go to maintain the social aspect of EQ", but previously you said you want instancing... those 2 things are kind of opposite and conflict in my opinion. The scarcity of loot on p99 is what gets you that sense of accomplishment when you finally do get that big upgrade, and the community there is pretty good depending on what guild and people you surround yourself with
Got to say it isn't nearly as bad as you make it out to be. Yeah there is some BS going on, but I am having a extremely good time. Also I am part of one of the top three guilds on Yelinak One Last Time, and having nothing but a positive experiences with them and we have managed to knock out all content so far, usually on the first attempt, even under geared. I think what might have happened to you is two fold. One, you got in the wrong guild and that wore you down. Two, you have been playing so long, it burnt you out. I get that too. Been through 3 TLPs so far and got totally burnt out myself. Took a 2 year break and really enjoying myself again. Oh and if you don't have friends to play with......make some. EQ is a social game so be social.
