No doubt sunsetting definitely was mishandled badly. They could have just gone after Pinnacle weapons and no one would care. The fact they gutted the entire game and now new lights don't have any clue what's going on in the story because they also sunset the original campaigns for red war and forsaken. The new lights don't even know who Cayde or Ghaul was.
Raiding during the gjallarhorn era was such a chore, at least for me. I literally could never get it to drop ever, and almost every LFG said they required ghorn. Didn't matter if my DPS was fine, if I didn't have gjorn then so many people wouldn't even consider me because they read "ghorn op" somewhere. Some raids some nights took me an hour to find a group for. I'm so glad there isn't something as overtly busted as ghorn anymore.
My biggest complaint is that I spent so much time grinding the Black Armory so I could get all these cool looking tech weapons that can also drop as Masterwork. I came so close to getting the Ghost shell and ship even. But then they vaulted the Black Armory, and all these weapons I spent time grinding for are now virtually worthless. And I can't get the Ghost shell I truly want anymore.

Having sone loot back and more avilable feels a lot better but I really do miss those unique strike weapons and armore pieces.
@@maggie937 That's _nightfall_ specific, not strike specific. Gone are the days of specific weapons dropping from specific strikes, like the Imago Loop from The Undying Mind, or Mau'ual's Maulers from Shield Brothers. Now it's just a bunch of old D1 vendor guns and D2 ex-pinnacle guns. No more ripping your enemy's head off and wearing it as a helmet, no more pulling a Fallen HMG off the wreck of a super-shank, no more looting Tanik's cloak and auto rifle after killing his ass _again._
It's funny. They did it because of a handful of guns. Back in D1, they re-introduced everything but pocket infinity with age of triumph. Pocket infinity was the first weapon to be truly sunset.
The problem, as I understand it, was they completely renovated the game engine in I think shadow keep, so every piece of existing content had to be basically recoded into the new engine, which is a ton of dev time that could be spent making new stuff
@@Kirisutekarl Watch them make us pay for Mars AGAIN! It was in the first game day one, and we had to buy it in D2 just for it to be shackled away from us forever.
I feel like it's important to point out that being critical of these things isn't a bad thing. People that are critical of these things are usually the ones that want it to improve the most. I don't think anyone complaining wants destiny to fail, they want it to be better.
since you mentioned gambit, i think it is criminal that Reckoning was removed. And armor sets that had a perk like the sentry set from reckoning. the AE hit to stompees was too harsh considering that it is the hunter movement exotic.
also how they removed gambit maps. gambit already had the lowest number of options and how we're down to i think 4 maps. When I see the same maps over and over, it just reminds me of how boring and annoying gambit became. I also agree that removing reckoning was a mistake. It was certainly one of the last nails in the gambit coffin for me.
Hearing how people like Gambit feels strange for me cuz I remember fairly well that back then (before Witch Queen's release and the removal of Reckoning) a good number of people expressed general dislike for Gambit, to the point of memeing how frustrating and unfun the mode is
one thing I really agree on is the random exostic world drops. Ive been playing since the d2 beta, and I have every exotic that used to drop randomly, I wanna feel excited seeing an exotic engram again :/
something that ive thought about. the rarity of exotics was really special. my first was red death and it was all i used for my primary, it was special. d2 just hands out exotics
@@isellfreemoney9899 I remember always hoping an exotic was sweet business because I thought it was so cool. When forsaken came out, it was Cerberus, and that was my first exotic too when it launched. I used it as my main primary too.

Man I miss d1 raid armor. Especially the siva armor with the ornaments. Also the rise of iron armor with ornaments. Guess the closest to the siva armor I will ever get is the ep armor from mars.
Box breathing and trench were nerfed because at the time well/barricade would refill your rounds from reserve giving you infinite rounds during DPS phases. They just never reversed it when they took away infinite ammo.
It still appalls me that even after sunsetting in beyond light, we are still being given those same weapons, again, and again, and again, and if the rumors of reckoning weapons returning that would just be another example of what I mean
Always had to remind people who were blaming the wrong people for eververse. It was Bungie not Activision that implemented it and wanted to squeeze everything they could out the player base.
We put blame on Activision because it was convenient. It was a big bad we could point at say “well clearly that’s why bungie has to do it because Activision made them”, But once bungie cut rank and broke off from Activision they had multiple opportunities to end that bullshit but they didn’t. It has become transparently clear to me that the break from acti blizz was not out of some moral stance or creative vision but because they relized they didn’t need acti blizz and could pocket more cash without having to pay acti. Insult to injury they were one of the first major game companies to implement seasonal models and battle passes with non cosmetic content. A deeply cynical part of me thinks bungie realized how lucrative the seasonal content and monetization model and decided to do it on their own.
@@Jokerlkak With a currency that isn't readily available and you can only get a limited amount of every couple of months. You can, in theory, grind out the weekly challenges, which give bright dust, but they give such small amounts to the point of being borderline useless (aside from weekly vendor missions). Not to mention all of the good-looking armor sets are silver gated and never appear for Bright Dust aside from events.
It has a spot on the map so it’s not the same as the secret quests from d1. The secret for black spindle was only found by someone randomly going to that area while in the strike and that’s how it was found.
Vex, presage, dead messenger and hawkmoon don’t count as secret missions and if anyone says they are, they are stupid and obviously didn’t play when whisper or outbreak were in the game.
VexCalibur is absolutely a secret mission. It was discovered nearly the same way Whisper was and was not announced beforehand but discovered by players.
I'm just gonna say this: in the climate of today's gaming, and what "free to play" often means 9 times out of 10, Destiny should never have gone FTP. The season pass model as well as Eververse have just allowed Bungie to continually get lazier and lazier with how they present content. And they can sprinkle smaller and smaller amounts of it in over longer intervals and keep people coming back. I'm sticking around until the end of the Light and Dark saga, and if there's no sign Bungie's changing their tune after that...I'm done.
I love that you had a used a clip of a Titan shotgun aping into a wide open space and being mad he got froze and lost the engagement to highlight how strong Stasis was on launch, and not the corner tracking warlock melee had or Shiver strike apes with near 20 meter 1 shot shotguns or shatterdiving any super to death.
You would understand it better if you watched the whole video on Cerridus's channel. He sometimes goes into crazy killing sprees and this was one of those. Just that it ended because a warlock turned toward him and pressed the melee button. This would almost definitely not have happened if the warlock had used a light subclass. But yes you are quite right in saying this is tame compared to how annoying and soul crushing it felt to fight against stasis back when it released.
Having no strikes, specific loot like the Titan gauntlets in D1 that let you look like the Strike BOSS & Screwing up Master Raids is my 2 Sadest things
The more I see these mistakes, the more I feel like it's Evan feeling like he's entitled or angry. I feel like he's lost love for the game and that maybe he should start moving on from Destiny as a whole. There was a point where his content that it was once criticized, but now it's just about anything that he can find to complain about. From talking about the ups and downs of expansions but still saying that they were good, to just outright saying that the one expansion that everyone loves some how makes Destiny worse? The love for the game isn't there anymore.
I think part of the problem with the lack of exciting random exotic drops is that exotic weapons now only come from missions and season passes, and the newest exotic armor pieces can only be found for the first time in lost sectors or chosen at the end of a legendary campaign. You can’t get anything new as a world drop. If they just removed the lost sector exclusivity on new armor and added some exotic weapons to the world loot pool instead of to missions it might add back some of that random exotic drop excitement. And instead of nostalgia baiting us to buy the season pass to get the exotic directly or through a seasonal exotic quest, they could just drop returning D1 exotic weapons that were random drops into the world loot pool.
Spot on in pretty much everything. One thing, bungie has only said they wont increase pinnacle cap for Deep. They have not said anything regarding S22 and 23 so they might or they might not. Also its unfair to say u dont consider Vexcalibur as a secret quest when the way u found the mission is very very similar to Whisper and the quality is also there
Trying to control HOW people play this game is what ultimately killed it for me. D1 up to ROI was my most favorite time period in the game. Raids were fun, like REALLY fun because there wasn't this whole "the entire raid team has to have perfectly executed timing" thing going on. There were enough exploits in things that if one got bored enough with raids in a party, he could go and try to solo it. When the mechanics of raids changed enough that that wasn't possible anymore. I always marveled at the folks who went ahead first and made these solo attempts because it pushed me to grind a bit more so I could do it myself. Ultimately, the Destiny community kind of did this to themselves by complaining about the same things they were exploiting. They griped about the Crota raid for being too easy but we all had a hunter with us to solo the abyss, we all had a warlock with us to self res at the bridge. Truth is, that made it fun as hell and we got our loot quick. The raid wasn't actually too short....the others became far too long. This made it possible for at least my group, to speed run both VOG and Crota, get what our raid group needed, then go to the tower to cherpa solo players or small groups the rest of the night. THAT, is how we built all those friendships. It wasn't so difficult that it made you resent all these blueberries we were carrying through the raids.
I’m convinced that every TH-camr who sponsors raid is an agent for the IRS and raid is a game that makes you pay your taxes I don’t care who you send, I’m not paying them
The game is..... actually pretty good rn. PvE wise anyway but. It could be so much better. The small little mistakes have sullied what could be truly amazing.
One of the biggest mistakes I find is destiny 2 getting rid of one phasing strike and mission bosses literally one of the best feelings killing an enemy quickly
Imho sunsetting itself isn't an issue. Yes it really fucking sucks, but you cannot in good faith say that a game being 300-400GB just so you can have content you haven't touched in 5+ years is a good idea. Every event, season, expansion, and even update and hotfix would be expotentally harder to code into the game because they would have thousands of more lines of code to work with. The idea of "fix one issue, seven more appear" is always a potential problem in coding, and it's even worse with massive games like Destiny 2. That being said, they should have at least kept the campaigns in and reworked them so they work without whatever patrol areas they need. That way new players wouldn't be joining the game with 1/2 of the story just being nonexistent.
LOL I remember G-horn back then was way more desired than vex! even though vex had its moments where it was broken as F! G-horn stayed soo Broken for a till it got sunset! no mater what raid no mater what nightfall strikes with modifiers it didn't matter G0horn just walked over everything lol and the best part was Xur sold it at the very beginning of year 0 and that was the only time for like 3 years!
Still the most hilarious thing to me that the only way to watch these videos is still to play them at 1.25x or 1.5x speed. And they still make sense at the higher speeds.
I can forgive the bugs, the weak story telling, and the price on all the dlc, but what I can’t stand is them focusing too much on materials which let’s be honest, ALWAYS short on and never enough for the amount of time you invest into activities, instead of looking for loot I feel like I am constantly looking for materials and grinding 10hr farms to get materials for all my weapons and upgrades, which I can’t even carry much of. All weapons and armor feel like a matter of time till you get them and it’s nice that they are realizing how boring material grinding has become and I wish they get to working on the weapon and armor grinding system once again.
This current event with the free gear from the different tiers has really helped me. I didn't need 10 free masterwork tiraxipos. So I have materials. What do you think about the materweave change? A lot of people seem to really like it.
@@FTCRW Me too, but there's good ways to get most of them although the best is def from GMs. (Also make sure to put on ghost mods for whichever activity you're running) Enhancement cores: blue armor from collections, lvl up 8 and dismantle (turns a prism into 6 cores) Enhancement Prisms: GMs, and high lvl strike activities Ascendant Shards: Again GMs, specially on 2x weeks Legendary Shards: Although ofc Bungie was super quick on patching the glitch but not everything else this Guardian games event is pretty good for cores and shards as you get a ton of event guns that you can dismantle for shards and cores, not to mention you can easily do Platinum cards on Shuro Chi for even more rewards. Also for shards I always just turn the seasonal engrams on the helm to random stuff if there's nothing good to grind for or if I'm done with it, every 4-5 activities I'll probably have 3 engrams there which you can't dismantle for shards too. Glimmer: Rahool or public events
Exotic weapon rng would be great for the yearly expansion pool. It was always exciting getting a new one and see what fellow players had gotten themselves. Armor 100% needs to be a targeted farm. Stay rolls make to chaotic and unreliable for it to stay an rng item. I also think it would be great if those legendary ornaments that have special functions with specific exotic armors were a quest instead. It would go a long way towards lore building. And feel special for the class you’re playing.

Dude I don’t even remember the name of it, but the strike on titan with the big purple eye boss (I forgot the name of the enemy) was amazing. I loved that strike so much.
The bigger issue with sunsetting for me, as someone who attempted to get into the game... was that all of the content was gone and all the story was ripped out of the game so I had no context for anything.
Also, the F2P experience is not the greatest. ‘Cause if you want to do Nightfalls, then you need to wait for a Nightfall with a Strike that you can do (‘Cause there’s a lot of Strikes locked behind DLCs). So that means if you’re unlucky, then it’ll take forever to unlock Armor Charge Mods. Which is a pain honestly.
The free to play is what annoys me the most, recently i convinced a friend to play destiny, and after she downloaded 80 or so gb on her ps4, she was faced with the need of ps plus to play with others, and it's so funny to me cuz sony is the company that bought bungie and their fucking game still needs a subscription.
@@s1n1st3rs0ul wym? You can play warzone with no suscription, you can play fortnite, fall guys, rocket league, pretty much any game that calls itself free to play, destiny is the only one as far as i know that needs ps plus.
Bungie making the entire game revolve around player engagement is their biggest mistake. Every game decision has the prime directive of getting people to look at Eververse. Forgetting to make D2 fun....
Yeah I definitely miss the leveling up grind and RNG D1 offered especially with how special exotics felt.. its what kept me playing for hours. Even still I grind seasons to try and get max power...its the only reason why I play destiny really so if thats gone I would definitely play it for less
I remember getting my first ever legendary heavy weapon engram and screaming the house down when the gjallahorn popped out. 1st exotic weapon ever and my friends accused me of lying until I pulled out the tracker. I feel for those who grinded for years because I think Bungie must've blessed my account many a time
My top 10 blunders: (1) content vaulting, (2) sunsetting and un-sunsetting (3) seasonal model, (4), over-monetization, (5) power level escalator every season, (6) not putting in new PvP maps and gambit maps (after some were taken out), (7) making every new system: transmogrification, weapon crafting, armor 2.0, etc. way too grindy, (8) weekly missions, (9) shitting the bed on most campaign stories, (10) and launching bugged content that is also time-limited e.g. the last mission of season of the lost. All of which is to say why I don't play any more and haven't played since the end of Beyond Light.
I think a big issue with secret missions these days is data mining. Nothing will ever be a secret so long as people data mine/leak stuff. It's lame as hell but the unfortunate reality.
Useless excuse as this has always been the case and literally didn't stop them from making zero hour/whisper... It's not like they just now opened the api lmfao
@@theboid While true, I feel like the data mining stuff is more prevalent than it used to be. Regardless I'd want them to bring it back, the weekend Whisper came out was one of the sickest things from early D2. It just sucks that it's likely people will ruin the fun before it's even out
@@ILeem nah bungie can put effort into hiding it if they truly wanted to, they’ve just stated that it’s “too expensive” (not the cost but the dev time). Gotta stop blaming the community for this game’s shortcomings and hold bungie accountable
@@theboid Alright but what's the solution? How do they "keep it secret if they wanted to"? One way or another, the data has to be put into the game, which leaves it vulnerable for datamining. What Leem said about less stuff being secret in general is also true. Bringing up Whisper and other old secret missions doesn't work either. As the game has gotten more popular there's been more content about it made, which includes more datamining. Nothing stays secret for long anymore. I'm not Bungie's best friend or anything, they're not free of blame, but it's silly to pretend like the datamining doesn't hurt the incentive to make the secret missions. It's not a secret if everyone knows about it within a day.
They do not need to remove levelling, just streamline it. Make it less tedious to get to the cap. Instead of having 5 pinnacles all go to the same slot (Primary for example), make it pick a slot that is **NOT** up to the highest powerscore item you have. This way progression is more streamlined, less RNG
Spot on with sun setting. It is the biggest mistake Bungie made with Destiny 2. If they were going to sunset half of the then current content to make room for content to come then they should have just made a 3rd game I think. Season of Arrivals should have been either the end of D2 or the beginning of D3, I can’t decide there. Not just because of the gear and guns but also the story, campaigns, and quests that made D2 awesome. Much of which has been permanently vaulted. New light players aren’t going to know what the red war is. They’re not going to know who Cayde is unless they play D1. They’re not going to be able to see the events that unfolded from the attack on the original tower until the arrival of the pyramid ships. That’s why I don’t recommend this game to people that are new to the franchise.
I'm convinced that Bungie needs to at least make beyond light free to play. Free to play was great when the red war was the introduction but now the intro is almost non existent.
I also feel another reason secret missions aren't done anymore is because of all the leaks and data mining. Like, how is anything going to be a secret anymore when people figure out what's gonna happen 5 weeks in advance?
12:40 -let us note hunter never got a nerf for atleast 2 months, and even then it hardly addressed the busted nature of their neutral game, let alone, THOSE DAMN SHURIKENS.
It's the quantity of weapons that dilute the feeling of uniqueness not how they are acquired.
Sunsetting weapons I can understand. Especially for the broken pinnacles. Sunsetting the content itself? Unforgivable.
It's funny. They did it because of a handful of guns. Back in D1, they re-introduced everything but pocket infinity with age of triumph. Pocket infinity was the first weapon to be truly sunset.
The problem, as I understand it, was they completely renovated the game engine in I think shadow keep, so every piece of existing content had to be basically recoded into the new engine, which is a ton of dev time that could be spent making new stuff

since you mentioned gambit, i think it is criminal that Reckoning was removed.
It was certainly one of the last nails in the gambit coffin for me.

one thing I really agree on is the random exostic world drops.
I remember a friend and I would just grind heroic public events and get Exotics to drop all the time. Year one D2 was weird but fun

2:05 Still blows my mind that back in the day I felt like the flash when doing this skate, but seeing it now it's so slow compared to current skates or even eager edge itself
This whole "everything was better in d1" schtick is getting old. Nostalgia is a hell of a drug.
Man I miss d1 raid armor. Especially the siva armor with the ornaments. Also the rise of iron armor with ornaments. Guess the closest to the siva armor I will ever get is the ep armor from mars.
The old mystery of the game feels gone
True we need the feeling back
THIS, this, exactly this.
13:02 May have got it spot on with the reveal of Prismatic, but hopefully it'll be more balanced than the idea of combining subclasses sounds
Eververse needs to be 86'd and all cosmetics earnable ingame, because it's proven the money brought in by it IS NOT GOING TOWARD GAME BUILDING.
Remember how d1 crucible tried making big team game mode with vehicles and bigger maps at launch and never tried again. Example map first light
Always had to remind people who were blaming the wrong people for eververse. It was Bungie not Activision that implemented it and wanted to squeeze everything they could out the player base.
They said, coping hard
You can buy literally all the seasonal ornaments for free lol
@@Jokerlkak With a currency that isn't readily available and you can only get a limited amount of every couple of months. Not to mention all of the good-looking armor sets are silver gated and never appear for Bright Dust aside from events.
Why does Vexcalibur not count? Like I’m fairly sure it was revealed in the same way as Whisper was, totally randomly?
It has a spot on the map so it’s not the same as the secret quests from d1. The secret for black spindle was only found by someone randomly going to that area while in the strike and that’s how it was found.
@@ypcomchic it is only on the map when you did it for the first time if i remember correctly and outbreak also was easily started

@@boombop4980 i explicitly meant vexcalibur, yes presage/dead messenger/hawkmoon do not count
VexCalibur is absolutely a secret mission. It was discovered nearly the same way Whisper was and was not announced beforehand but discovered by players.
100%. The vox and presage missions were by no means secret but the way you started Avalon was definitely more along the lines of zero hour/the whisper
I agree.
Vox and Presage weren't secret missions, but Vexcaliber ABSOLUTELY is a secret mission.
But yes you are quite right in saying this is tame compared to how annoying and soul crushing it felt to fight against stasis back when it released.
or you could watch the full clip to see the context...
not sure about the corner tracking warlock melee but the warlock super did have corner tracking
The love for the game isn't there anymore.
i had a group of 10 friends that played destiny 2 with me a lot. 8 of them left at beyond light bc of the sunsetting and still havent came back
I think part of the problem with the lack of exciting random exotic drops is that exotic weapons now only come from missions and season passes, and the newest exotic armor pieces can only be found for the first time in lost sectors or chosen at the end of a legendary campaign.
Also its unfair to say u dont consider Vexcalibur as a secret quest when the way u found the mission is very very similar to Whisper and the quality is also there
Honestly, a once a dlc increase would be more than fine with me. Even once every second season would be good.

The gally dropping at Crota and xue selling IB was definitely the pinnacle of the game for me
I can forgive the bugs, the weak story telling, and the price on all the dlc, but what I can’t stand is them focusing too much on materials which let’s be honest, ALWAYS short on and never enough for the amount of time you invest into activities, instead of looking for loot I feel like I am constantly looking for materials and grinding 10hr farms to get materials for all my weapons and upgrades, which I can’t even carry much of.
As someone who started playing after BL's launch I'm always low on mats
@@FTCRW Me too, but there's good ways to get most of them although the best is def from GMs. (Also make sure to put on ghost mods for whichever activity you're running)
Enhancement cores: blue armor from collections, lvl up 8 and dismantle (turns a prism into 6 cores)
Enhancement Prisms: GMs, and high lvl strike activities
Ascendant Shards: Again GMs, specially on 2x weeks
Legendary Shards: Although ofc Bungie was super quick on patching the glitch but not everything else this Guardian games event is pretty good for cores and shards as you get a ton of event guns that you can dismantle for shards and cores, not to mention you can easily do Platinum cards on Shuro Chi for even more rewards.
Also for shards I always just turn the seasonal engrams on the helm to random stuff if there's nothing good to grind for or if I'm done with it, every 4-5 activities I'll probably have 3 engrams there which you can't dismantle for shards too.
Glimmer: Rahool or public events
They should just make the game based on mainly one or two currencies glimmer + something else and should just make infusions free.
13:00 funny listening to this now after the discovery of the weapons bug :P
I remember getting my Gjallarhorn in Destiny 1 from a legendary engram. I was the first of my group to get it and i've loved it ever since.

You missed the fucking cannons in the RoN raid. The true final god of pain
I've never seen twin tailed fox hit two targets further apart than stood in each other.

Dont worry. We can still just play D1. That still around.

Bungie making the entire game revolve around player engagement is their biggest mistake. Every game decision has the prime directive of getting people to look at Eververse. Forgetting to make D2 fun....
Cool vid but did anyone else see the 4 missed linear shots at 16:42 😂
Yeah I definitely miss the leveling up grind and RNG D1 offered especially with how special exotics felt.. its what kept me playing for hours.
Where was the place around 2:50 ?, not sure i've seen it.
Missing the quickswap fix. That was kinda the beginning of the end for me. The Final Blow was Friday Raids though, good job bringing that up
Destiny 1 had nearly everything right. Destiny 2 has everything wrong
