Hearing the phrase "forever 29" after all these years gave me chills.
Literally hit level 30 the day before dark below came out and only because Xur sold the glasshouse exotic titan helmet. Couldn't get the helmet from hard mode vog to drop for me ever
to this day my d1 hunter is 399 because up untill destiny 2 came out i couldnt get a fucking light 400 ghost shell
i would spend hours upon hours farming materials on destinations to upgrade weapons
Dude same… it almost makes me cry how much time we used to waste just to see if we like a weapon or not
15:00 it’s so interesting the way he frames MT as coming as “the end of the era of pinnacle weapons was already in sight, but Bungie sent them off with a bang”. The Mountaintop was actually one of the first pinnacle weapons as it came in black armoury. The reason it’s interesting is because the reason he remembers it as sending off the pinnacle weapons is because basically nobody realized it was good until the crown of sorrow raid, and because it was such a hard grind to get nobody bothered getting it until people realized how good it was in crown of sorrow with auto reload well and anarchy. So, patty along with a lot of people probably didn’t get it until season of opulence, which was the last season with pinnacle weapons which is why to him it seemed like it “sent off pinnacle weapons with a bang”. I remember the faction rally cheese that was discovered on the EDZ, you could run back into The Weep lost sector. All you saw on days on end was the words "Winding Cove" as you loaded back in and a bunch of guardians running in and out of that tunnel resetting the chest.
Omg dude I remember this and one memory that just came up was bumping the piping in the tunnels which would waste time slowing me down which used to poss me off so much 🤣😭
One of the worse grinds for me that I never see anybody ever talk about was the SRL 320 grind. Back when SRL first came out, it could drop 320 light helms and class items. Getting them from this source allowed you to get your Guardian up to 320, without smashing your head against the wall fighting weekly raid RNG. But, for some reason, they also had a chance to drop at 319, and quite often would, if at all. So you had to do hundred of races during this limited time even to secure the drops you needed. Speaking as somebody whose done almost all of the grinds in this video, SRL ranks above quite a few of them.
Man....I remember all of that for D1, when it came to the exotic swords, I remember getting all 3 solo on my Hunter and it was tough.
I also remember getting all the faction cloaks.
Honestly forgot Gambit Prime and The Reckoning were a thing. I was at peace, and you've taken that from me. I expect repayment.
My most challenging grind is figuring out what I'm supposed to do.
So many quests in my inventory and I've got a dash of the 80 HiDef
It's less what you're "supposed to do" and more what you want to do. If there's an exotic that sounds fun, do the exotic quest. If you see a video on an activity you want to do, get the quest to go do it :)
Destiny is a game that basically /requires/ google search and probably some discords to play.
One of the worst grinds in my memory was the 100 weapons forged for the black armory ship. Nearly 400 forges with a little bounty in between was a slog.

I remember I grinded over 200 runs of the Savathuns song strike in year 1 and still never got the Duty Bound. I actually never got it until it returned as a random rolled weapon years later.
Man "Forever 29" i haven't thought about that in ages i remember this, I was so excited when i hit 30 and was no longer a member of the "Forever 29 Club" i was so excited.
I think about it from time to time. Had all 3 characters at level 30 and never deleted one ever, but had to wait till the last week before The Dark Below to get the helmet to drop on my warlock. Still have my full OG equip in my fault in Destiny

The fight to get Massacre Medals in Gambit Prime hurt me the most. I loved getting 11/12 kills just for my team to “help” and kill the twelfth.
Seeing the dusk rock blues shotgun gave me chills I miss that weapon so much 😢😢
I used to cheese Atheon with my Warlock and I helped out so many people just because I enjoyed it. I must have cheesed that boss at least 50 times, I had it down to a science. The amount of "I GOT IT, I GOT IT!" "VEX MYTHOCLAST!!! YES!!!" despite never getting one was totally worth it.
I finally got the Vex Mythoclast for the first time... a few months ago.
lol that's how I met 2 of my best gamer friends almost 10 years later! I had never tried the cheese but I had a warlock and figured I could give it a shot, so I volunteered to try it with an LFG group. A few tries later, we had our first hard mode clear and we've been friends ever since!
I played d1 somewhat recently and opened about 10 undying mind strike chests with my keys and no imogo loop💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀

Us D1 Year 1 vets remember the pain of trying to grind for Gjallarhorn. Nightfalls, Raids, PvP, getting a Legendary engram and then hoping Rahool would be nice enough to turn it into an Exotic (that was something that could happen), or hoping that this week Xur would finally sell that damn rocket launcher again.
Then there was the grind for Vex Mythoclast. I only ever got the original sunset version well into Rise of Iron, and never got the updated version from the reprised VOG before D2 came out. But then oddly enough, D2's version of VOG I was lucky enough to get Vex on my second ever clear. I still don’t have 1K Voices though...
I never got Thorn in D1, but I did get Gally and IB.
I did not get a single exotic bounty in D1Y1 but I did get every random drop, raid and startable quest exotic available 😬
My friends started playing the game at launch. I didn't join them until house of wolves. Within three weeks I had both gjallarhorn (from my first ever nightfall) and thorn. A few of my friends were pissed, because they already had hundreds of hours in the game without getting them.
One friend played all the way up to the taken king without getting the gjallarhorn. So he had to buy it from xur, just a week before it got nerfed. Poor guy.
Having to grind all those specific materials for the Mercury forge weapons was the worst for me
I was always stuck at 25 because everyone I knew were 29 and didn't have time to get me there
Dust rock blues. 12m deep attitude adjustment
DRB with full auto was so insane. When I was going through old clips trying to find stuff with original NF/Luna the DRB clips were just cracking me up. It was unreal
There was one solstice event, I think it actually might be the one in the video, but competing all three sets of solstice armor rewarded you with the EV-37 Voidstreak sparrow.
I distinctly remember this, because I was the first one in my clan to get legendary sets for all three classes, and I bragged about being first hahhaha.
Doing Niobe Labs with my friends at the end of arrivals and taking other people through it will always be one of my favorite memories.
With the forever 29, you could only get helmets from atheon on hard mode. But exotics also would drop at 30 so you could use a exotic helm till you got a legendary one. I got lucky with a helm and vex mythoclast on my first hard run. But then got screwed with the thorn quest dropping to my hunter who didn't have a void subclass back then. Had to use atheon's epilogue
the touch of malice quest was HELL
this just made me super nostalgic.. back when exotics were kinda rare.. and the character creator is just clean with its art style
i do miss the SRL gear and even the white gear you spawn with
D1 really needed transmog and custom gear colors
I didn't hit level 30 until the Iron Banner that gave Powerful Gear. I remember seeing something ages ago that "loot" rng had to do with your Bungie ID and that based on your certain number ending you could pin point what drops you would get more of. Mine stated I got more weapon drops and least drop was Boots.. which was my missing piece. I remember deleting and leveling 7 Warlocks in one week to run.
One of the biggest grinds of my destiny career was the taniks cloak in d1. I soloed the entire strike for that thing like 150 times😅

The scion cloaks were quite the grind too. I miss unique loot like that
Remember getting thorn and last word year one when they were starting to ramp up in usage. Hated using hand cannons because of how the recoil’s animated.
I know grinding isn’t exactly the most well liked of things, but some of my best memories on D1 were spent doing just that. Thanks for the nostalgia trip :’)
The funniest thing about the “forever 29” is I didn’t have that problem. Got super lucky my 3 runs. Now that luck is running out in Destiny 2 lol
This video brought back a memory of soloing the special version of sunless cell for that final quest step.
I remember it took me 5 weeks to get Necrochasm in D1, and I kept getting the scout rifle as the final drop for all those weeks
Oh i remember, when vog hard mode was so annoying, warlock were clutch and got me the vex and a helmet that i needed 😂
I think the game got a little better when it comes to the impossibility of achieving things. I learned to appreciate the in-game firetram finder as that has helped me tremendously as a returning solo player.
Chronicler title still makes me mad. I was one away from unlocking it, before Bungie vaulted it. I would have had it if it wasn't for one too many weekly reset maintenance (as it prevented the double dip cheese). Bungie really should've added a catch-up mechanic at the end.
I tell you what though, while that Thorn quest did require a bit to much from the player when I finally unlocked mine I stood and cheered. I was so happy to get the weapon. It is still one of my favorite moment from D1 or D2 and a hell of a lot more fun that just buying Thorn from the exotic kiosk like you do now.
Cant believe how much I have grinded in this game. IDK if I should be proud of embarrassed xD

I have redrix and Luna's howl but redrix is my favorite weapon in the game for pvp

I’ll never forget grinding 3 weeks to get the Redrix’s Broadsword. Or it took me 5 weeks to craft the Insidious Pulse from VoW because I only have 1 character.
I still have my armory forged shell equipped at all times. Took a group of us 3 days to complete the stupid puzzle because we kept having to stop and go during the summer but holy shit was it so incredibly rewarding
That Thorn quest 😩 I got it on my hunter and all I had was a void fusion rifle (after the nerf that murdered them).
The husk of the pit grind was real. Seeing pages and pages of gameplay history for first dark below mission haha
Brother, I got the bounty on my Titan. That PvP struggle was real. I wasn’t the greatest at PvP in D1 either.
I reallymiss all the grind in destiny 2
the game has become so lackluster and once achieved max light and got a good build there is nothing for you to do anymore.
miss the d1 days very stressful when grinding but also really fun at the same time
Hoesntly, this makes me miss having to grind, I feel like with crafting and everything being so easily obtainable the feeling of the grind is gone nowadays
I remember a light in the dark bounty, i spent 2 months failing in the crucible before i finished.
I kinda miss the factions and the old grind for certain weapons
but it's just kinda unrealistic for people to have that amount of time these days
There were so many good aspects of D1. The complexity or severity of these grinds may turn some people off, but id argue its part of the reason D1 was so special. Wish we gad this kind of depth again
The 4,500 kills for the OG Sleeper Simulant catalyst was a grind for me.
I didn't do Reckoner only because after 30+ runs i didn't drop the invader tier 3 arms in Reckoning
Ngl I miss some of these super rare drops required to get exotics. It made them feel so much more rewarding to have.
I grinded so hard for the first solstice armor and i didn't even get close. Still a little mad about it.
Don't wanna forget about the Corridors of Time puzzle.
This is what D2 is missing. Sure it was a grind back in the day but it gave the loot meaning. Nowadays we live in a over saturated exotic economy
Totally agree, getting exotics to drop felt special thar they had a sense of power and purpose, now it's just so common and most cases worse to use over god roll leggos
With the Solstice armour sets, the ABSOLUTE worst thing about it was, at the start of the next season, Bungie introduced Armour 2.0 and completely changed the power level and weapon perks, as Forsaken dropped.
This meant that armour you’d worked your ass off to upgrade, was now useless.
It really put me off doing special events for ages realising Bungie could give you a chance to get great gear but then rip it apart any time.
God back in the day opening the door to VoG was considered a difficult endeavor. Thats as far as i ever got in vanilla d1 before taken ling and all i got was the hunter cloak XD
I actually remember the horror of the old solstice, holy fucky that was the worst experience of my guardians life no doubt
You did not need to do hard mode VOG to get light level 30 gear, only the helmet was exclusive to hard mode.
The Iron Burden one was very poorly designed. Limited to a few specific weeks, the requirements were hidden, and it made you always at a disadvantage in PvP. So awful. It was a key turning point for me, putting me off of going for 100% in Destiny 2.
Got my Thorn crucible kills with a blue fusion rifle. The Damerung FR4.
I'm just glad I have a good friend who let me join his raid group back then
Never forget Niobe Labs being bugged and the hint for one of the puzzles not appearing before Bungie fixed it 🙂

grinding quad 100s on hunter to match triple 100 builds of warlocks and titans e.e curse you near useless mobility stat
Man, people don’t understand. Destiny one was brutal. And when the solstice armor first dropped, oh my god…. 😩
I grinded solstice of heros for the ship, then they released the same ship model 2-3 months after, for the dawning, i gave up the hardcore grind after this, have been a casual since. Maybe this is a blessing though because i still enjoy the game unlike my clan mates who say typical doom posting destiny comments.
Chapter 12: Ticking Time Bombs
The day of the field test arrived with a heavy sky, the clouds hanging low as if to watch the proceedings below with a wary eye. Shin and Kara stood at the designated testing ground just outside the City walls, where the Warlock's theoretical shielding technology would be put to its first real-world trial.
Around them, a small team of Guardians, scientists, and Warlocks prepared the equipment, checking and rechecking the configurations to ensure everything was in order for the potentially groundbreaking experiment. The mood was tense; everyone understood the stakes. If successful, this test could revolutionize their defense capabilities against dark energies, giving them a significant advantage in the war.
"The principle behind the technology is solid, but theory is always different from practice," Shin explained to Kara as they observed the preparations. "Today, we find out if we can truly tame the darkness with light."
Kara nodded, her gaze fixed on the device-a complex arrangement of crystals and conduits designed to harmonize and purify corrupted energies. "It's like defusing a bomb," she commented, "except we're trying to harness its power instead of merely containing it."
As the test commenced, a hush fell over the area. The device was activated, humming softly as it began to draw in the dark energy stored for the experiment. Slowly, the crystals within the device started to glow, a soft light that grew steadily brighter and steadier.
However, just as hope started to bloom among the onlookers, a critical component overheated, disrupting the delicate balance of the system. The device faltered, and for a heart-stopping moment, the corrupted energy threatened to burst forth uncontrollably.
Quickly, the Guardians enacted emergency protocols. Shin and Kara, along with a team of quick-responding Warlocks, managed to stabilize the situation using improvised modifications to the device, combining their Light to reinforce the containment field manually.
The crisis averted, the team took a collective breath. Though the test hadn't gone as planned, it provided invaluable data and highlighted the potential dangers of their new approach. "It's a setback, but not a defeat," Shin reassured the team. "We learn from this. We improve, and we try again."
In the aftermath, as they reviewed the data collected during the test, Shin and Kara discussed the implications of the day's events. "We're walking a tightrope with this technology," Kara mused. "The power we're trying to harness is volatile, unpredictable. It's a ticking time bomb, and today we heard the first tick."
"That's why we proceed with caution," Shin responded, his voice firm. "But we don't stop. This is too important. If we can master this, we can change the course of the war."
Their conversation was interrupted by a summons from the Vanguard. News had arrived of increased Cabal activity near the City, likely a response to their recent advancements and experiments. The enemy was watching, and they were adapting.
As they prepared to leave the testing site, Shin and Kara shared a determined look. The road ahead was fraught with danger and uncertainty, but the path forward was clear. They would continue their experiments, refine the technology, and prepare for the inevitable confrontations to come.
"Every discovery, every advancement we make, it's like a lit fuse," Kara said as they walked back towards the City. "We just need to make sure it's the Cabal who face the explosion, not us."
With that, they returned to their duties, the weight of responsibility heavy on their shoulders, but their resolve unshaken. The battle for the future was ongoing, and every second counted.
The imago loop god roll grind was the most painful for me
Ohhh the grind of D1... I had to run Crota's raid so many times until I got the boots to drop for me (needed to level up). RNG was so cruel to me that I never got Gjallarhorn. Crota always gave me Mida Multitool (probably over 20). At least I got Crux of Crota 4 times. Go figure...
Me sat here with reckoner and doing the 250 champions in season of plunder 😌
I remember doing master crota solo 3 times a week for 3 months

Number 16 : Getting a shiny BRAVE weapon to drop
17:04 emblem looks nice, but I've never once ever seen anybody have it equipped. Kinda pretty much tells how un-worth it the whole challenge presented itself to be.
I completely forgot about exotic bounties they should definitely bring them back and give banshee like 3 exotic bounties that randomly drop doing daily gunsmith bounties
The worst part of the weapon leveling grind was the amount of time needed to press interact to "pick up" resources 😂
9:30 you forgot if you did all 3 armor sets you get a ship.
Idk what those people were doing at that Templar DPS phase at 1:15 😅 shooting with an AR 2 other people just jumping around and 1 just sitting in the bubble doing nothing I’d be pissed if that was my raid team 😭😭
I despise RNG. Shouldn’t exist with exotics. I played with a gentleman that hadn’t gotten the Gally after an entire year of constant playing in Destiny 1…I got it on my very first nightfall….
Back when I was just a young dumb 18 year old fresh out of high-school no responsibilities yet I could just sit back and play for hours the grinds use to irritated the hell out of me but man I wish I could go back to those days
One of my proudest moments was getting nechrocasm completely solo
In D1 i knew damn near all the chest and planetary material spawns in patrol. Thankfully the game has left that grind in the past.
I was the first person in my clan to get the raid boots to hit light lvl 30. At the time, there was over 1400 people in our clan.
The grinding got to me and I quit for a couple of years. Played other games and found other things to do with my time. I enjoy D2 now much better in the state it's in overall.
I had ran over like 34 GMs to get one roll of Hung Jury back in the day.

That thing was a grind too! One of my favorite D1 PvP weapons until they changed the archetype
Hey us that grinded out 2500 burdened iron banner kills were also rewarded with the exclusive rights to earn “ the wizened rebuke “ from iron banner engrams . A mid fusion rifle ….. that they added to the loot pool for everyone 1 iron banner later .
I have not taken off that Nairobi labs go chill since I got it and when it came to the season of the plunder champions, I decided to take a bit of a break from D2 and play assassin’s Creed by the way that was all of them
I get why Black Armory was such a crowd favorite but my god it was not worth the grind at all.
so glad we don’t have the ridiculous and redundant grinding from destiny 1 anymore

luna's howl, or another handcannon i'm forgetting, its coming next weekly reset as the last batch of brave weapons in Into The Light, so i recommend you just grab it there instead of buying it from the Exotic Kiosk.
Time gates ruined a lot of these grinds. I'd be a reckoner if it wasn't removed from the game, same with Chronicler. The only grind here I wouldn't have completed by now is the redrix ornament, as being able to lose progress makes any grind entirely intolerable. That being said, I look back fondly on the grinds that I was able to do, but the rest just give me hella FOMO
Good old days where it actually was hard tog et certain weapons! Once you got it it was worth the grind..the feeling alone of having it was awesome. Nowadays no weapon is special anymore..
