when I was younger {20} I had the opportunity to help my good friends family once a month on a pig farm to give the parents a break and since then I understand what work and labour an dedication it takes to put food onto our table ,lessons I have never forgat ,Now I am almost 61 and when I go to buy a nice pork roast those wonderful memories come flooding back.Just remember you are appreciated .

Working from Dawn till dusk tractor driving or bales hay throwing makes for long days. The dairy boys were great athletes because they always worked. All of them are successful because they aren't afraid of hard work. Being a Marine fits just fine because of the same reason. Everyone is looking for the easy way out, learning hard work always pays the best. Good times. Semper FI. Neal

The latter bit of personal perspective is / was the best part of today's video, in my humble opinion.
As we continually grow in affluence and in technological stability, a lot of the basics of life tends to disappear.
Without the teaching / learning of where things come from, or how they are processed - the more dependant we, as a society become.
We need to continue to hold on to the knowledge of self-dependence in order to be able to survive, should the need ever come.
Thanks for the reminder. All of us need that from time to time.
    Peace.

Pete you nailed it on the head we need to respect each other. I think our country has forgotten that, we need to meet in the middle more not try to force our beliefs on one another. I love you videos thank you for making them.

When my daughter was diagnosed with leukemia in 2015, we had to spend a lot of time in St. Louis, out of necessity, over the next few years. I was very uncomfortable in that city environment at first. As time went on, I began to appreciate the differences in our lifestyles. We made many friends who shared the same basic values and desires, they just went about achieving their goals in a very different way, and that's OK.
Too often, farmers like myself are guilty of writing off those who are not exactly like us in the way we see the world, in our priorities. It's good to get away from the farm and go somewhere different because it helps to keep us from getting too narrow in our understanding of just how diverse we really are. Ultimately, it makes me appreciate what I have that much more. Thank you, Pete, for being willing to share these thoughts with us.
PS: The anticipation is killing me. I'm ready to see the Super C running again.

By the way I would like to hear that story from you two separately not edited. That would be good. I still remember the moment I knew I loved my wife like it was yesterday and that was 45 years ago . She doesn't remember that day the same at all! LOL.

Hi Pete! Ken here from Nova Scotia. You picked a nice spot to sit and talk. Seeing the cows eat has always been soothing for me. I personally hate cities. I work around a city and that’s enough of that scene for me. My happy place is in the woods or at my dads farm. A farming homestead in the middle of nowhere would be perfect for me. Can’t wait for your next video. Been chewing at the bit to hear the tractor prrrr.

My son really wants chickens now. When I was his age, I was fortunate to have my grandfathers beef and pork farm. We're in a small town (locally a 'city') that limits what we can do, but they do allow a small number of chickens. Thank you for sharing your farm with us!

My Dad was career Navy then he went on to work for other Government jobs, but we lived in many places because of his career. I honestly feel like the perspective I gained from living outside of the US was priceless. Makes me value things like Liberty... And freedom of choice.

I bet you were grateful to get back to NY. In the country farming. I have family that lives in Westchester County and they seldom leave the city. I myself lived in Boston 30 years and prayed for the day and received to be back in my roots in Maine. Nice to see the city but better to see what we have. Love your videos and the love and care put forth by you and Hillary. I kept looking for a video and now know you were on vacation

Great video. I lived the country life morning to night , from morning milking two cows to evening milking until I was 16. We raised 90% of our food, then I had summer jobs. I hated my life and all the hard work we endured,I looked forward to day I could leave. I have worked for the last 40 years to go back to that lifestyle. 3 years ago on my Great Grandparents Homestead we started our journey to relive that experience. Loved your video.

Well Pete, I have always stored my hay outside, no barn. I ran a 4x5 twine wrapped from a 654 New Holland baler until 2020, that's when we bought a John Deere 450E net wrap. The spoilage was more on the twine wrap than on the net wrap, maybe 10% or so. I had about the same results as your chopped net wrap stored outside. Two year ago we purchased a tarp made for stacking round bales. We stored 69 bales of 4x5's and started recently using them, I was pleasantly surprised with the result, a lot less spoilage and well worth the money we spent. Sorry for the long comment, loved the video, thanks, have a wonderful week.

Pete - I love your perspectives. We take so many things for granted and it's nice to be able to see things through a different lens. I live in the country, farmland and most everyone here commutes into the cities. I get to see both but it sure is nice to come home...to the country. Roosters crowing, cows mooing and riding the John Deere! Have a great week - see you soon!

So glad to see your video. What a nice way to start my day. Always enjoy your thoughts . You’re always spot on, as far as I’m concerned. I should’ve been a farm girl just never got the chance. I’m certainly not a city girl though so I constantly find my self stuck in the middle. I like my garden and have planted fruit trees and try to impart the ideas of self sufficiency and sustainability to my daughter and SIL. If I were a younger and more able bodied woman, I would’ve like to had had a small farm like you but alas it is not meant to be. Please keep up the awesome videos they mean so much to me and I can’t believe I’m alone in this. I’m glad you had some great travel adventures with your kids, they’ll never forget it…well not for a long time anyway. Have you ever thought about offering pig sponsorships? Maybe a stall in your new pig barn. I’d love to do that…not for me…for a pig. 😮

I just stumbled across your page, and I must tell you that I had a feeling of peace come over me as I watched. I am a retired farmer in Montana, an occupation that was for me both peaceful and stressful at the same time. Kind of an oxymoron I guess, the economic pressure seemed to become more intense as time passed and economy changed. You are blessed to have a partner that thinks and helps like yourself. Sir, you represent the kind, goodhearted individual that made this country what it is, or at least was. God bless you, and your family, thank you for giving others a peek into what life can be like when a person is doing what he (or she), was gifted by our Creator to do. Blessings.

Wow Pete, you and your kids were not far from me, when you were in Montreal. What a beautiful City, that I have visited many times in my life, living up hear, and how my ancestors came from, to be in the US. No, I don’t speak French, but my Grandfather did, as even though he was born in raised in Champlain, NY, in the US, that was the language that was spoken to many people, to what is called the French village of that little town. You are a very happy man in your life and in your choices, and it shows in every video you have. Be well, and take care!

I found out things in the country move in there own pace. In the city I felt I had to run on a treadmill and compete with 10 times x amount of people at the same time. I don't regret moving out from the big place to a much more smaller and remote place. If you get sick of people than living for a time away from people can teach you lot of things. I do miss the comfort of a nearby store and getting to go out with like minded people. However the calmness of nature and not having to scramble for your life dose have a very huge mental impact. Something that you can't have in a urban environment.

Pete, I am just a few years older than you. But I have learned more from you these past few years I could write a couple of books. I adore your antidotes and approaches to life and livelihood on the farm. You are a treasure trove of information and hope you never change. Glad I wondered upon your channel 2 years ago. Thank you and your family very much. Looking forward to many more years of learning. I am happy and quite envious of you. I lost both my parents bout the time you graduated from high school. So all my learning experiences were from memories of how my parents did it or leaning on my uncle's and aunts. Keep up the great work. Keep making those memories with the kids. 50 something years, mine with dad are like a 10,000 piece puzzle just poured out of a box. You know it will be something wonderful once you get it all together. Lot of memories lost or holes in them and no one to fill it up.

For some reason I enjoyed cleaning the stalls in my stable. It gave my mind a rest from my stressful Job.

Thanks for another nice video Pete and Hilary :) In my experience the people I come across have no idea the difference between living in the country ( living self sufficient) and city living. I have lived in both. I prefer country hands down. Living in America we have it good. As far as availability to things. Flip a switch for so many things. Hop in a car and go anywhere. Most people haven’t developed skills to survive without these luxuries. Soon they will wish they had. I feel learning new skills is so important. Thanks again. Really enjoy your videos Pete. God bless !

Loved the talk, I've always been on both sides of the "urban vs country living" debate. I like both though, they each have their own pros and cons. Really enjoyed the point I think you were trying to make though, about being connected to everything that supports you. It's a nice way to live.

I sincerely, enjoy your videos. I try dozens of other farmers, and frankly, it creates anxiety while watching them unfold their work. I feel I am working the farm instead of enjoying learning. Your segments are relaxing, informative and enjoyable. Thank you for sharing. I look forward to the next one.
