Freddie was a fan of Elvis.. but he (and many 70s-80s rock groups) loved and honored Little Richard too. Tutti-frutti was a Little Richard hit from 1955.. Freddie and gang did it proud in this concert!!
The band looked like they were having so much fun. I just love these rock and Roll Medlies. This was a medley of some of the greats the band members grew up listening to. Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson and Little Richard in this set. Spike Edney on piano duty so Freddie could be up front.
Freddy was made for the stage. The energy it took to sign like that and run across the stage is amazing. What a great band and what a great medley you just have to move.
That was awesome that just blew my mind💥✨💥✨✨ no matter what he did Freddie Mercury was a great entertainer!!! Check out Little Richard, Ritchie Valenez , big bopper, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, singers from the 1950s and before anyone says anything, I’m using my microphone on my iPhone whenever I talk it doesn’t spell everything correct. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😎😎😎😎😎☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️👀
That is right, it never gets old! The whole Wembley concert is fire. If you get around to it at some point the live version of A Kind Of Magic at Wembley is great also.
At the root of all their genius, Queen was a true rock & roll band. They could just totally rock out and turn every performance into a full-blown party. There is only one other band, and one other lead singer, who could do that -- Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. (Anyone who's seen them live can back me up on that.)
Hehe I like Freddie dropping water on the crowd and Brian 😅 ... but poor Roger had to run from the front back to his drums while Freddie had a little singing lesson with the audience.... 😂
Freddie's voice is unique, if you want to hear how magical it is I think you should check out Queen Impromptu live at Wembley. There are two versions because Queen did two concerts on two consecutive days. Listen and enjoy. 🎙/ Johanna
HELLO, I was the one who gave you the suggestion to listen to those songs 😃 I wasn't wrong that I understood you would like it. Your reaction is absolutely wonderful, your joy is contagious. How happy I get to make someone else happy. Wish you all the best❤ / Johanna
The originals of the songs in this medley (Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson etc) are all familiar to me from my teenage years, as they were to the members of Queen, because we are all the same age and grew up listening to them!
Lyric version is best as there is no complete live version. It is about their manager ripping them off so they could hardly eat and he just bought a rolls Royce. Moral of this song = don't piss Freddie off 😂
I love the Queen medleys, especially this one. Freddie spent his school years in a boarding school in India, where he and some school mates formed a band The Hectics, at his age of 12, towards the end of the 1950 years. He was the only one in the band who actually could play anything on the piano, without music sheets, but by ear after listening these kind of songs (Chuck Berry, Little Richard, Jerry Lewis, Fats Domino, etc.) on the radio. Pls, check out Death On Two Legs the lyric video, you'll love it.
So glad you chose this night at Wembley to react to! They had so much fun together in this medley even quiet and reserved John Deacon was singing and smiling. When Roger Taylor disappears then comes in on his drums it's kicked up a notch. I watch at least parts of the Wembley shows once a week the entire concert is a vibe. I love seeing how close they were together, friends just having fun. 👑 Freddie loved Elvis and formed his first band at boarding school playing Elvis and Chuck Berry songs from that Era.
I love this whole medley! You can see how their early musical interests influenced how they layer their voices and harmonies in their songs. I love seeing their personalities and them having fun 💛 John is totally amused by Freddie. This whole concert is great
This was so fun, THANK YOU! The guys always did a “classic rock” medley in their shows, and the songs they decided to do always varied/changed depending on what they “felt like” doing. …My FAVORITE rock medley is the one they did at: Odeon Hammersmith in 1975. (The full thing starts with Freddie singing “Big Spender” in a kimono (a robe), then dropping the robe and going into the rest of the medley in what look like little silk pajamas)😂
If you love this you will love the rock & roll medley from London 1977 it’s about 10 minutes of greatness paying homage to the great singers that they grew up with ❤❤
Well, it was a Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, and Little Richard homage. There are other concerts where Freddie would do Jailhouse Rock as part of their old-school rock medley. Here's a fun early version (1974): th-cam.com/video/aHAWQhiNgaw/w-d-xo.html
FYI - Freddie is wearing a Betty Boop t-shirt with the sleeves rolled up with tape! During the performance of “Hey Big Spender”, Freddie does a strip-tease by ripping his shirt off. (the shirt was pre-torn for easy tearing). Anyway, he throws the shirt into the crowd and it was caught by a vendor! He said there were 2 concert tickets clipped to the tag for the second Wembley show. 😁 He took the shirt home & while he was at work his Mum repaired the shirt by stitching it all back together!! Wait! What?? 👉🪡🧵 🤣🤣 Awww man! 👨🏻
You are totally correct that Freddie was a bug Elvis fan. Freddie even wrote 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love' as a tribte after Elvis died. Elvis and Freddie had a similar vocal range & could both sing many genres of song from rock/rock n roll to classical. (See Freddie & M Caballe & Elvis sinnging 'Its Now or Never (O Sole Mio).
Recent subscriber here ... just loving your journey through my all time favorite band: QUEEN!! Their concerts were sooo musically diverse and soooo much FUN!! Saw them a few times - simply the BEST! While I love all their studio albums, Queen is magic LIVE ... adore them! Keep going... I'm along for your ride!
That's one of the greatest things About queen they knew how to have a great time while preforming. And there fans eat it up!! THATS WHY THEY WERE THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME! R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU
Freddie would sing favorite songs of Elvis, Ricky Nelson, and Little Richard and others. Bands of the 70s loved the singers & bands of the 50s & 60s. I loved them all, too. Gene Pitney wrote Hello, Mary Lou and he was a huge star of the 60s and 70s.
They've done these melodies since their first concert, like you said they are paying respect for those who paved the way for them. This was towards the end of s 2 and a bit concert. Another one from this concert on Saturday night st wembley 86, us Now I'm here watch them rock 72,000 people,of you think Freddie ran around in this song, just wait x
always a little nod to rock & roll classics somewhere in a Queen concert. from Elvis to Little Richard to Ricky Nelson even a Connie Francis song early on. They could relax and play around.
While Freddie is the best frontman ever, Brian and Roger have great voices as well. You might check out the studio version of Brian’s song ‘39. The live versions are fun but Freddie sings them. Check out Roger sing I’m in love with my car in Montreal or studio versions of drowse, and more of that jazz or prepare for a gut punch with No One But You (only the good die young)
Absolutely love the Queen medleys!! It displays the talent of Queen as musicians AND honors the rock stars who came before them!! One of my favorite medleys 1977 London - th-cam.com/video/z0k8tMSgVww/w-d-xo.html

Yes, Death on two legs, please. 😅

@@sheilapurcell515 I also like Brian's Red Special growling, hissing and spitting fire at that song ... 😜
Freddie has always been "extra" and we loved him for it! Just so magical and authentic (all of them).
Queen really could do it all!!
They were just too good!!
R.I.P FREDDIE WE MISS YOU
Impromptu live from Wembley is a great one!
I agree.

Ricky Nelson was another heartthrob singer / musican in my mom's time. The 50s.
During this performance it was raining Torrential rains pouring down . Not one person left the concert. ❣️
Great fucking tunes. Old school haha. Nice podcast bro
They were all masters at there craft. They were so tight!
Super!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These were songs from their teenage years…same for the crowd…they know all the words…by the way none of these song were Elvis🤩
💯
Elvis the king sung that song 😍
You didn’t finish the vid🙄….Spencer Davis…right at the end!
By the time of Tutti Fruitti in the show, Freddie is well hyped due to certain white powder LOL
I think John Deacon hit up his liquid courage just before this number lol he had a bar behind the speakers
Fat Bottom Girls pretty please ❤😊
