Right!!! And the guy chained up, was Liszt himself. He composed and practiced this stuff for hours on end from what I've read. The Transendental Etudes are murderous. And, he supposedly improvised over his own compositions when Playing in concert performance. He must have been something else.
I randomly stumbled upon your channel but wow. What a WONDERFUL rendition of mazeppa. Some renditions I’ve seen don’t have all the “anger” necessary at the start, but yours nails it.
This may be the best interpretation of Mazeppa I’ve ever heard, and I’ve probably heard a hundred. It goes without saying that the technique is absolutely impeccable, damn near flawless, a feat that by itself is worthy of endless praise. But it goes much deeper than that - the transitions from staccato to legato, the imposing use of the pedal without ever sacrificing clarity and articulation, the dynamic range, it’s all incredible. Bravo. I haven’t played much Liszt, but if I ever get around to learning more than just La Campanella (lol), I’ll certainly come back to this video to study your technique. Truly incredible performance.
I can’t even begin to tell you how many times I have listened to this. Such a glorious piece and such an extraordinary performance. Truly brilliant in every regard.
@Andrew Reveno I can say from my own experience because have played and performed both of them, that at least for me mazeppa is nothing compared to feux follets in technical difficulty.
Sosta I guess I’ll take your word for it then lol! I think at a certain difficulty it become very reliant on strengths and weaknesses of an individual player as I’ve heard people say they are somewhat similar in difficulty, but that wasn’t the case for you, interesting.
You'd be surprised at how many pieces are harder than this. Not saying this is easy, far from it. I'm just saying, some of the more modern classical pieces are almost impossible to play, if not, completely impossible
