As an avid hunter and dog handler. Thank you for demanding better of your dog, correcting her not letting her get the reward after she broke. Most of the time on here you see dogs breaking and running amuck so I appreciate that.
Thanks Tye, much appreciated! Hoping to make in down there in January again, I'll let you know when I'm headed that way. We gotta get at least a hunt or two in this year!
Oh Boy...North to Alaska "this is heaven man,no Alaska!" Nice job with Bonnie on no reward for breaking. If Bonnie wants to sit by you ,fine, have her sitting on your normal heeling side. Like before Thomas I'm envious !
Thanks Don! She seemed a lot more comfortable right by my side! Luckily the ducks up here aren't quite wary enough for having her out in the open to make a difference.
It certainly can be a mecca. This time last year was pretty slow up here though. Lots of N winds had the birds pushing through quickly. Had S winds for a week prior to this hunt, winds will be switching to out of the N starting tomorrow. Should be interesting to see how that changes things up here this year!
Nice hunt! Wigeon are my favorite and what I specialize in. You might try a mud flat on an outgoing tide. They like to feed right on the edge so you move a lot and there is no cover, but it can be productive and you are not limited to only hunting before and after a high. Look forward to some more hunts.
Thanks brother! I've wanted to try something like that up here but the mud along the rivers/beaches can be very dangerous. It's so silty that people will get trapped in it and have to be rescued. If I can find the right spot for it though I would definitely give it a go!
@@HokeOutdoors Yeah we have that as well, probably not as bad. We do have people rescued. Here is a tip from an experienced mud flat hunter. If you ever start getting stuck start walking on your knees. The rest of your leg acts like a snow shoe. Keep going until you get to firmer sand. Good luck and can't wait for more of your AK hunts.
I brought Rue up here instead because she'll stay with Cory until he makes the drive back! I'll be hunting with Leroy again when I make it back to MN in a couple weeks!
I’m curious how you feel about the heyday decoys now that you’ve used them for a while. I got some last year and love the idea behind them. Unfortunately, the paint durability seems to be a bit disappointing
Damn, have you had issues with them flaking or fading? I've had a really good experience with them, the only time I had an issue was in Alaska last year during some strong winds. The geese kept rolling over but I also didn't have the keel weights in them then. If I'm hunting high wind now I put the keel weights back in
@@HokeOutdoors I bought 6 black ducks initially, and the paint immediately started to flake and peel off after one hunt. They sent me 6 free mallard decoys, which were a bit better, but after one season of fairly light use the paint is rubbing off on those as well. Really bummed about it because I love how light they are, and that they can basically double as full bodies
Luckily Cory and his family have driven up here two years in a row so they brought all the decoys, waders, and other gear up with them! I just flew up with Rue and she traveled in a kennel under the plane. Alaska Airlines is definitely the way to go if you're flying with a dog, they take good care of them and have a climate controlled area in the cargo hold
Thanks Jim! I think I should be able to eat most of them up here. I'll use some of the ones that got shot up to grind in with moose and then I can fly packs of that home with me.
@HokeOutdoors nice! Those gopro or wide angle views are deceiving. It looks like it's a long shot but they're actually not. Great job on the self filming, I haven't ventured into waterfowl much, rather deer archery. I'll have to get some setups ready for this fall with the excitement I got from your videos! Keep at it, I support you!
dozen and a half decoys? sir that makes my back hurt just thinking about it.........what kind of bag are you running? im rocking one of those tanglefree EZ loads and it works pretty good enough room to stuff the waders with the decoys.
Oh man I love duck hunting but going homeless to chase them is pretty wild! I actually work for DRC Call Co, making calls and doing a variety of things like customer service and social media
Did you fly with the dog? Delta and United refused to fly my 75 pound lab. I think you are really turning out great retrievers by hunting them in locations loaded with ducks.
I went to Alaska salmon fishing this summer and the guide we went with said the ducks eat a lot of dead salmon and don’t taste very good. Is this true?
It's somewhat true. The ducks mainly use these marshes in September and taste normal then. From what I've heard, once the marshes freeze in October the ducks head to the rivers and then they start eating salmon and eggs which can give them a bad taste.
Some do and some don't. The mallards and pintails definitely tend to have a saltier taste in general. The teal don't have a salty taste at all. Some of the wigeon will taste really salty but most don't.
I own one, which is Leroy. Bonnie and Rue are both owned by Cory, who I work for, so I'm able to hunt with them a good bit too! Bonnie has been up in AK all summer and I just flew Rue up here so I'll be hunting with the two of them for the next couple weeks
Hey buddy you're doing great. I Wonder how much does it cost you and if someone one wants to join you on hunt should we DM you?. And also what do you do for a living besides hunting...
I appreciate it! I don't guide at all but you can definitely shoot me a DM about potentially hunting together. I work for DRC Calls, we make duck and goose calls!

Thanks Zak, I appreciate you watching! I never want to be on a hunt where a dog gets shot so keeping them steady is my #1 priority as a handler
Hunting on the lush green fields by the lakeside is truly a wonderful pastime. I would love to have a dog like yours; it's simply outstanding.
Living the dream Thomas. You make the best videos my friend.
Thanks Tye, much appreciated! Hoping to make in down there in January again, I'll let you know when I'm headed that way. We gotta get at least a hunt or two in this year!
Great video as always Thomas. Man Bonnie comes out like a bullet, she’s quick. Looking forward to the new Alaska Hunting videos. 👍

Great voice and thanks for the backpack mention! Fun hunt right there.
Thanks Chase! Putting that backpack to good use up here!
Sorry I am late from a few vids but I can’t wait to watch this one!
No worries, I appreciate you watching!
Great video!
That is some sick waterfowl hunting!
I'm really looking forward to more Alaska hunts.
Well done!
Thanks brother! Got another Alaska hunt coming out tomorrow!
Another awesome hunt. Alaska looks like a waterfowlers paradise.
Thanks Will! It's a cool place, truly unlike any other!
Awesome hunt Thomas! Land of Opportunity!
Thanks Titus! You gotta get up here one day!
Alaska, the final frontier of duck Mecca.

You should go on American idol with the singing at the end. 10/10 hunt 12/10 singing 😂.
🤣🤣🤣
Second hand gun banged alright. 👊🏻
It took a little getting used to but once I got dialed in it was game on 🤘
Another amazing video. What a great view.
Keep up the great videos. Would love to hunt in an area like that
Thanks Maurice! Hope you can make it up to Alaska at some point, it's a place that I think everyone should try to visit at least once!
Awesome video congrats on the limit definitely looks like a beautiful place
Thanks Bob! It doesn't get much more scenic than Alaska!
Love the videos. Minnesota hunts would be awesome
Much appreciated!! Just dropped a new Minnesota hunt!
Let's go. Youth opener for us. Opener for minasota for you.
Best of luck for the youth opener! Unfortunately I'll miss out on the MN opener this year but I'll be back by the end of September

Great little hunt.
Much appreciated!

Quick and easy hunt other than the walk!
That sucks about your gun getting lost.
Haha for sure, getting to the spot is 90% of the work up here! Luckily they found my gun yesterday so I've got it back now!
@@HokeOutdoors Glad to hear you got it back!
I’m looking at the Franchi AFFINITY 3.5 WATERFOWL ELITE for my next shotgun purchase!
You should do a catch and cook video.
I'll have a couple throughout the season!
