  • There are many German Army Moleskin Trousers out there, and they are not all the same. We take you through some pointers so you know what to watch out for when looking for a good pair, comparing two examples - a name brand from the original contract manufacturer, and a cheaper copy brand.

    Velcro was invented in 1957 so it was invented back then it just wasn't popular for military use yet

      Also dont forget "VELCRO" (trademark name for a Hook and Loop closure) was invented in the USA and patented for a while, I would assume other nations militaries probably had to pay royalties for the right to use? IDK for sure, but if so and I was Germanys quartermaster id be like "welp, so buttons it is!"

    Hi. Great vid.
    I was lucky enough to purchase an authentic surplus pair of moleskins a few months ago. Definitely authentic as they came with half a fenig in one of the pockets!
    All the best.👍🏾🇬🇧

    The Moleskin Kommando trouser has push buttons, a zipper and an additional pocket on one lower leg. This trouser in the video is called Moleskin Feldhose.

    I bought two pairs of these a while ago from you. They are an excellent copy of the originals (which I have) except for one major thing. They don't taper to narrow enough hem at the bottom of the leg and are quite baggy at the bottom. They don't have the nice slim taper which makes the originals nice. I took a pair of your new ones with my originals to a tailor and he altered to the original taper. He wasn't able to do a complete fold in at the double stitch for the inner seam like you showed in the video but he did a double stitch and they are fine. It was worth doing and I'll get another pair from you to do the same thing.
    I have bought other versions of these trousers and they were not good at all. Altering these ones was the best option.

    Why don't you say the brand of the original pants (Leo Kohler) and the import one?

    How's Mil-tec related ones since they are a german gear company after all? I hear they actually make some nice solid stuff. I was looking at their Vietnam M64 Pants recently since I can't find reviews on them. They seem nice.

    I have originals and copies. The copies are thinner and less warm; no where near as heavy duty.

      There are true spec civilian made copies that are just as good. You just need to know what you’re looking for.

      @@Wolf_K Which is what was likely meant by "original", as in "original manufacturer" not "original individual pants".

    For the west German army moleskin jackets; Is there the same issue of knock-off/non-original, lower quality jackets that use loop over stitching etc.?

    • @flecktarnuk3557
      @flecktarnuk3557  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On the originals, the side seam and the seam going down the length of the arm is folded, felled and chain stitched, but the seam joining the arm to the shoulder and chest is an overlock, and not folded. That said, it is less of an issue as the seams on jackets don't tend to be subject to the same stresses as seams on trousers. The more usual problem on knock-off jackets is inferior materials (a little cheating on the weight of the material) or stitches that unpick easily on pockets, jacket loops and the like.

      Is there somewhere I can buy the original jackets made by the contractor of the BundesWehr?
