Oh honey!!! We'll be praying for your speedy recovery. My daughter has been struggling with sleepwalking lately, and my oldest boy was a stubborn sleepwalker. It's scary sometimes. Take it easy as long as you need, you super-ambitious beauty, you!
I totally again with the crappy bramble berry labels with their micas! Their fragrance oils are way to expensive as well. I love mid west fragrance company, the scents are amazing and super strong so thank you so much for recommending them. Great video!

Have you formulated a bar similar to this lotion bar that would be good for keeping bugs away ? This would be a perfect bar for kids to put on and easy to apply . I was thinking citronella, wintergreen or peppermint, geranium, black pepper. Any other suggestions? Thanks .
Great recipe, similar to my body butter. I love how you explain the comedogenic numbers, that's so helpful! Also, I thought I was the only one who was tired of Brambleberry's labels. Glad to know I wasn't going crazy haha :) p.s. I hope you fell better soon
I love those bars. I will have to try that recipe when I am better. They are absolutely beautiful too. I hope you feel better after your fall. Get lots of rest.
Loved learning about the comedogenic so much! Thank you for all you do for us! I sure hope you feel better soon. The thing here that's different from my recipe is the Abyssinian oil, so I just ordered some! Thank you so much. By the way. Love the counters!
Oh Sug, i’m so sorry you got hurt. I need you to take better care of yourself please. As for the counter I love it but yeah you got to work on the angles because you’ve been out of frame on certain things. I love that you share and educate me because I did not know anything about comedogenic ratings. You have taught me more than some books I’ve read. You are my motivation and inspiration to try new stuff. I am going to order some preservatives (since that’s a thing😁) so that I can have safe products to give away and to sell. I wish you a speedy recovery and please take care of yourself. Let the kidlets and Mr. S&C spoil you for a minute😘
Great video. By the way, you don’t have to get yellow unrefined. I saw something recently where they put a Berry dye (I think) to make it yellow. Not necessary. I got that once and it is hard to make blue. Have a great day!
Loving this recipe! I made little mini in a sample size mold to test out several versions that I could come up with. I would like to make this recipe for a push up tube. Do you think it would work for that? Or would I need to make adjustments to it. I'm wanting to make a general purpose lotion/ tube recipe that could be used for lips/ hands/ whatever.
Ooh! This was informative. Never heard of comedogenic values before. Now I'm going to go look at my lotion bar recipe and math out the average such value... And I'm with ya. I love Shea. S'why it goes on all my soaps. =P
Thanks for the great video! Where can you learn about the different oils and the things like the comedogenic numbers? Like if I wanted to substitute the Abyssinian oil with something else how do I know what oils would work in place of that?
Hey! This link has good info on comedogenic oils, and there are several others on the web. I recommend printing out a sheet with comedogenic and fatty acid profiles for a cheat when you’re formulating. Have fun! bonospera.com/blogs/morf/the-complete-list-of-comedogenic-oils

Maybe this is an odd question, but I have never used these. I would assume things stick to them really bad? Would you keep these in a travel soap dish to keep them from attracting fuzz and things from the outside?
So I infused my Avocado oil with rose petals, lavender, chamomile and so on. Can that replace the extract in this recipe? Also I live at a much higher elevation than Washington state. ( I’m assuming you’re at or close to sea level?) and fallowing this recipe except the extract, it was really sticky for me. Totally could be my error with one or some of the ingredients, but could our elevation and climate have an impact on the consistency of the lotion bars?

Thank you for all this info! I've tested no less than 8 lotion bar recipes/percentages, all to no avail. I tried this one, substituting ucuuba butter for cocoa (because it's also hard and brittle, and I don't have cocoa), equal parts mango/shea/cupuacu for the butter, and 1 part castor, 2 parts brazil nut, 2 parts jojoba for the oils. I just tried them out and I still feel like it's too melty?? I didn't think my substitutions were so different from the ingredients you used to matter. Are they supposed to be very melty in your hands? It makes me nervous to sell them outside in the farmer's market in September, in case they turn to a puddle! Please send help, lol.
Hey! You may have to adjust and increase the firm butters or the wax to calculate for the summer months. These are the percentages I use year round and haven’t had a melted one in shipment yet, but at a booth on a hot day might be different! Another tip - put ONE out in the booth as a display on an ice bath and keep the rest in the cooler to keep the sun away.

I love your videos! I want to try lotion bars next. When you say extract, and you included agave, is that optional? What does an extract contribute to the properties of the bar? Hope you heal fast from your fall!
How do you get the arrowroot powder to fully mix in? I seem to have a bunch of clumps still at the bottom after pouring my molds no matter how much I stir them.
@@MrsSoapAndClay oh I didn't even think of that one! I will try that next time, I just poured it into tins this time too big a pain to try and remelt it again now lol
When in comes to the fragrance calculation, I’m still slightly confused when it comes to deciding how much to use according to max guidance and the 5% you chose to go with. How did you also do the math? And will adding extra fragrance change the lotion bar consistency?
Generally, if you use too much fragrance oil it will seep from the bar, but that’s really when you’re going beyond the max usage. That percentage is calculated by the total batch weight of all of the oils and butters, and selecting where you want to fall within those max usage guidelines for any particular scent is really based on personal preference. I don’t like overly scented products, so I tend to go mid range.
Hi Mrs. Soap & Clay, thank you for another helpful video! How do you deal with your wax hardening too quickly and the cleanup? Also, for the extract you added, is it oil soluble?
Depending on skin type and fragrance used, it can be a face product, though those that are susceptible to clogged pores or oily skin may find it to be a bit heavy.
Ok.. Took me a minute to figure out it wasn't live. I'm a little slow apparently. Haha.
