    What a fantastic explanation of THE FAVORITE and most ESSENTIAL project tool there is - the WBS. During the years I have searched for great videos to use when I want to train others - but until today I have never found a short 'SPOT ON' video like this before. THANK YOU Adriana. Highly appreciated!

    Thank you. I have a school project on designing a Rainwater harvesting tank and supplying the harvested water to a first floor of our department for the restrooms.
    I was confused on where to start a WBS of this project but now I think I'm confident.
    Thanks again.

    Thank you for this well-presented breakdown! Couple questions:
    1) What is the difference between a WBS and your project plan?
    2) How would you suggest going about creating a WBS for a project that you aren't sure what will all go into it and a vendor will be determining what needs to be done, specifically?
    Thank you!

      Hi Jason. Your question is a loaded one. What exactly do you want to manage that needs to be in one place? Regarding software choices, it depends on a few things like your style of management, licenses available to the team etc….

    How do you facilitate a planning session 🤔 struggling is it making the charter live?

    • @AdrianaGirdler
      @AdrianaGirdler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching. You need to ensure you do your homework first like getting your scope statement and charter done. Then do the kickoff meeting. At the kickoff meeting you then conduct an exercise to create the project plan. I go into detail of how to do this in my Online course. Here is link if you want to check it out.

    A great video to watch, thank you! I have some questions, if I have a branch with 3 levels and another branch with 4 levels. Is it okay to have different level on some branches in a WBS? And How do you determine the activities?

    • @AdrianaGirdler
      @AdrianaGirdler  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for the great comment. To answer your question….Yes, you can have one branch with 3 level and the other with 4 levels. It depends on the level of detail you choose to do.
      Regarding your other question, my recommendation is you do this first on your own and set up meeting with SMEs to get high-level concepts. Then when you are ready have your kickoff meeting and have the team validate and break it down even more. Cheers!

    Hello I love your videos and I have a question. I am a 40 year old trying to break into project management. I have a lot of PM skills that I have aquired from previous job and life experiences that I know will help me be a successful PM someday. Do you recommend focusing on a specialty from the onset ? Change management ,agile?

      Thank you so much for your kind words. So glad my videos are informative. Regarding your question, it really depends on your organization. See what they have a need for and present yourself as the solution.

    This is interesting, thank you. I have a system where the top level would be “Project”, next is “Tasks”, then “Actions” (Actions for people to take)
    Many of the items regular, smaller things to get done and are simply normal office items, like reviewing documents. So, I don’t create a diagram to plan out things, but I like to diagram out reports that show what has been done at this time to accomplish the task. Would this still be considered “WBS” even though it is more of what “has” been done. This also allows management to know where we are at.
    From what I’ve seen, WBS refers to planning out and the execution, and where you are at with completing it…where I’m more showing a diagram of what’s in progress, but without showing the whole plan.

      Sounds like your system is keeping your project on track. Thanks for watching and sharing your system. Cheers!

      @@AdrianaGirdler I had a question in there and I’m thinking it wasn’t obvious…Especially since it didn’t have a question mark, sorry about that.
      My question was would my scenario still be considered a WBS❓
      I should also clarify, the system is web-based that I built from the ground up. It emails users when an Action is sent to them. With a direct link to that Action, it also allows attachments etc. Deadlines, reminds, etc. Plus reporting for management as well
      I just wanted to know if I’m thinking right with using that term if this gets looked at on a national level where the folks use the “appropriate” terms that I don’t always know. You’ve got quite a bit of knowledge and I appreciate you taking the time to break it down for us little folks, at least me 😀

      If you are breaking down the tasks along with showing due dates, ownership of each task, and current status of each task I would say this would be considered a WBS.
      Sounds like you have put a lot of work into this! Wishing you great success!

    Work is a noun, not a verb. The WBS is not a description of the processes followed to perform the project…nor does it address the schedule that defines how or when the deliverables will be produced, but rather is specifically limited to describing and detailing the project’s outcomes or scope. This is a source of confusion for many PMs.

      It is a noun as well as a transitive and intransitive verb according to Merriam-Webster.

      Hi Cynthia, thanks for watching. I do have a course that I think would be of benefit to you. It's called SLAY Project Management. In this
      course I walk you through the entire project process from start to finish to make sure you know exactly how to manage your project. It also includes all the templates you will need to keep you on track with your projects! You will also have access to the SLAY Project Management Facebook group where you can
      ask questions and share your wins with other Slayers! Here is the link to check it out
