Thanks for the tips as always. I really like how you continually emphasize prioritizing your mental health and well being above everything else. It's definitely something that people tend to casually just ignore when trying to grow and expand.
I’ve had to stop streaming because my son’s school switched to virtual learning because of covid so he is home every day now. I love getting to spend the extra time with him but I cannot stream while he is home. He has adhd and requires an enormous amount of attention so it just doesn’t work. It’s really been stressing me out cause I feel like a huge disappointment. Anyway I needed to hear this, I needed to hear that it’s ok to step away and I thank you for that.
Thanks for talking about not needing the views, I think I get carried away checking viewers and worrying I’m not getting anywhere rather than having fun and just enjoying streaming. Love these videos man.
This is really good information you're providing here, when start your streaming career it's very easy to get burned out, because first there's a lot of prep to do, specially with figuring out how obs works, and I totally agree, when you're just starting out 3 to 4 streams a week with around 3 to 4 hours each is a great start, it makes room for a smooth growth. So great video, I really enjoyed watching, thank you!
I really like what you said about looking after mental health and looking after yourself - too often I think people feel the pressure going live to stay consistent and not lose followers and that can have a negative impact in the long term
I find that if I don't feel good enough to stream, then I won't. But what I will do is edit a few clips and post them up instead. It helps alot with that feeling of fomo if I don't stream.

It took me almost 3 years to truly realize it's okay to have a day off. I still used to take days off but I would always feel guilty which just exhausted me mentally anyways, it's only now I feel content when taking a day off. I couldn't praise this enough. I started February 2020 and did it daily for hours, even multiple times a day, losing sleep. Ruining personal relationships and hurting my relationship with my wife, I got so burnt out that in summer of 2022 I just stopped all together. I had no will or want to stream anymore. I've now set aside 3 days a week 3-5 hours and it's put a new healthy attitude towards streaming. If it feels like too much, then it's definitely too much

I started streaming and 100% agree with this especially burn out, not only with streaming but games, I was playing a lot of among us and had to take a break from the game. I definitely recommend playing a few games you enjoy and then splashing in something new every once in a while ☺️
I’m glad to hear you are for taking a break when you need it :). Also I have noticed a lot of people have a lot of goals and it can be very cluttered and hard to read but I thought because I see it so much that maybe I don’t have enough goals up so this made me feel better about keeping it simple. I have seen multiples of stream advice and i take hours and hours of notes and not to mention been streaming for four years. Here is my thoughts about your 3 advices. 1) i had this problem that i've crunch add ons, plugins, and too many other things because i keep thinking more will get me more things but after many advices, people prefer the idea of "less is more" Having goals is good. speaking of goals, everyone has their own individual goals. Its always a where a person says your situation is either do it as a hobby or do it as a job. A person can do both or do one without the other. The point is, no one should tell people what their goal should be even in a disagreement. This leads to number 2 2) The way you describe good and bad sounds like a personal view. If you don't need views you have a good attitude but the person who cares about views a bad attitude?? There is a difference between an certain attitude and a person who cares about views. yes, people can be stingy wanting a person to look at their stream but there are people who really care about numbers and not give a single bad impression. Some people don't need views but here are the reason why people need them. Some people really care about making twitch as their full-time job or part-time job. thats why people like me care about views so much. twitch doesn't pay you at 0 viewers and future sponsorship don't care if they don't see any value. The reality is, theres very limited people who are willing to watch other streamers. the reason? i ask and they said they busy with work (even non twitch related), don't have time because IRL situations, they are working on their brand, or even prefer to stay one streamer. People try to get as much viewers as possible. 3) this advice is somewhat great but here is the thing. you stated that your viewer will understand that you need to take a break. While i look at my average viewer which is 0, i think the idea of taking a break is close to none. Theres no one to care so why should i take a break? As a workaholic, taking a break is much like an insult or an uncomfortable feeling of not doing anything and not gain anything. I rather work myself to death than to know the idea other people will be gaining potential viewers when I'm in bed not doing anything when I could of doing some work instead. Making on twitch is my dream and my life. to me, it best for me to die trying than to do nothing. That is everything i had to say. There are some info i did miss but i decided to not talk about those is because i either agree to the statement or neutral about the idea. This is not a huge disagreement post, its just a post about my POV of the advices you said and how I experience it. Its not easy to be a small streamer but any advice people said, you have to take it or leave it,. if you decided to take it, then see if it works for you or not.

Thanks for the tips, I've been streaming on TH-cam, Facebook and Twitch recently. TH-cam and Facebook get plenty of engagement but really been struggling with Twitch.
Twitch to me seems to be more streamers that follow me so it's hard to get viewers when they are streaming idk. Last 2 day's I've been streaming to both YT and Twitch. We will see what happens there.
My advice is find one platform you like and stick to it. It's almost like starting 3 different bands at once. You wont be able to keep track of everything. My advice would be to put all the time and effort you can afford into one streaming platform instead of trying to manage 3:)
Sorry! My application to start a youtube channel with 100k subs from the get go was denied:( Everyone has to start somewhere my friend. Also, my tips are from a small streamer, aimed at small streamers:) Thats the whole point:)
Great video, you had some great tips for streaming. I def get in my head about streaming when I don't reach goals I set for myself, I need to remember to chill and just have a good time. 😄
5:17 "If you're feeling low, just don't stream..." I really could've used this advice last week. Lesson learned: next time if I'm not in a great brain space, let it go, don't stream. People will usually understand and sympathise.
These videos have been super helpful, thank you for sharing these tips! I do have a bit of a suggestion, as it's something I don't really see mentioned very often in these sorts of videos but you touched on it for a moment here! You talked about sometimes having a negative attitude towards someone in your chat, and knowing when to say something vs just ignoring & banning them. Are there any other tips/advice for small streamers to help manage/maintain a good relationship with their chat? I know everyone is gonna be a little different because of their personal comfort level, but is there any advice for finding the sweet spot between having a good foundation of rules and just over-policing / being way too strict? I imagine at some point, becoming more and more strict with chat is going to start hurting your growth, so I think it would be nice to hear advice or tips for maintaining a good relationship between streamer + chat, and maybe what kind of attitude or headspace we should be in when we engage with chat to avoid stress & negative experiences!
Yo! Thanks a mil! Thats a really good point and I for sure have a lot to say on the topic. I've an upcoming video planned all about interacting with your chat so I will 100% include it in there!
@@xTwoShoes No problem, and that's awesome! It's hard to find videos on that subject and it seems like it would be pretty high up there in importance for small streamers who rely on that audience engagement! I'll def be on the lookout for that!
Great video, sound advice! Thank you. Not sure if I've followed you on twitch yet, but I'll definitely check out the stream sometime! Keep up the great work.
I just recently started streaming since I'm trying to break out of a mold of fear/anxiety, but I do agree 💯% on this lol. Personally, I only have my window/cam scene and maybe the chat on the side (as if anyone watches me lol).
I definitely get the impression that people have a FOMO that if they aren’t online constantly, they’ll miss the boat when it comes to Subs etc.. But actually it’s far better to just stream when you actually want to. You can’t fake genuine enthusiasm.
I do like your Advice but I was going to take a small Temporary Break myself and I almost my Main Goal where I Break 1000 Followers but it's Difficult too! I wish I knew what I'm doing wrong so I can get Across the Finish Line!
I was dead set on a schedule making sure I streamed on specific days at specific times and it burnt me out fast especially when I wasn't growing at the rate my friends were so I just took a break, I haven't streamed in over three weeks but I know when I start again I'll feel much better mentally. I also never know what games to play either haha, regardless these tips were very useful and myself and many others I guarantee will apply these to our streams!
2:19 I only had one and it was a Follower Goal and Ironically I Completed it I was going for 1000 Followers and at the end of September it finally happened! I'll stick to just a Follower Goal!
I need to work on being more appreciative because I have my pet peeves.. When someone comes to stream just to say “hey I just wanted to stop by and say hi real quick ok gtg” I do not reward them with any attention because to me that’s not a quality engagement and you’re not watching my show so you might as well have not shown up. It’s like “hi this isn’t worth my time bye” but my other streamer friend said she’s loves that when people stop by. So maybe I should be more positive about those? It just sucks because everyone leaves the stream after like 30 minutes to an hour. My other pet peeve is people that don’t reply when I ask questions about them or even topics they have brought up when all they do is drop one-word or two-word messages like I KNOW they are not actually watching the stream. They’re leaving their phone running, not paying attention to what’s going on, and looking at their phone every now and again and seeing something like I’m running at that moment and then messages “oh hes running” and that’s it. So then I’ll be like oh hey what’s up man how was stream earlier? Then there’s silence. So I guess I should be grateful for these people even though I’m thinking they shouldn’t be here if they aren’t watching and engaging but maybe viewers are viewers for now and they help build and get me to the point where people are paying more attention idk. Just makes me think like what am I doing wrong
This is gonna be quite long, but I advise you to read to the end if you start it First topic: Don’t squeeze your community, keep the goals visible for you if it’s something driving you forward, otherwise I’d recommend not looking at them all the time (if you like to make statistics, that’s nice to have tho). I noticed myself to make fun of how little ad revenue you get, but how ridiculous Twitch’s suggestions for ads are. 3 minutes of ads per hour may not seem much, but it’ll piss off many, many people, rightfully so. I don’t want to do a break every 30 minutes, so why would I follow those suggestions (that a few take too much as guidelines on how to handle ads). Away from the ad thing, with many, many goals blatantly screaming in your viewer’s face, you seem like you’d make them responsible to make your channel grow. You have 2/10 subs and tell everyone all the time about how little that has gone so far? Don’t make viewers feel guilty for not subscribing or gifting subs. The same goes for literally anything else. Make a few emotes, bit emotes, have nice badges, let them know that these emotes/badges are available, let them know that you invest yourself into the community, even if they’re just watching, even if they don’t financially support you. You should be greatful for every single minute someone spends in your stream, active or not. People CHOOSE to spend time in your stream, if you’re not gonna give them anything back but just pull more out of them, I don’t know who would want to spend time there. Anyway, enough of that rant, let’s come to shoe no. 2, I mean, the second point of the video. This point kind of starts out as the first one, people choose to spend time in your stream, be greatful. The people you have to not be greatful for are trolls that come in every now and then, don’t bother with them, ban them and if you need/want to say something about that, please do. Mind your language, keep it respectful, there’s no place for hate, even if it’s just to hit back. To wrap this point up, simply don’t be a dick, don’t troll around and be respectful of others as well as their limitations Point Tree or something: I’d like to start with an example from myself, I often can’t sleep properly or at all during the night, does that mean I cancel those streams? Not neccesarily. Streaming has sometimes helped me get through the sleeplessness and it just felt good to have great people to have a nice conversation with. Does that mean you should stream when you feel down? By no means, it’s very subjective and any individual can experience it differently, in my case it sometimes works out, but a lot of these days it’s still gonna be no stream, just because I can’t put up the energy for it. If you’re unsure wether you could do it, sing a song you like, but that isn’t in your favorites, judge your performance and then think again wether it’d be a good idea to stream today. Take into account how energetic you sang, how focused, how easy/hard it was. A few words at the end of this half-essay comment, by no means do you have to be one of those super active, talented artists and make all the stuff for everyone, but if you expect your community to give you things, you have to be ready to give first. That was my view on the different points, Dan, as usual, great informative video and thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
One question I always have is this. Is it better to start streaming for more hours per stream or more days per week? I only get 2 days off from work a week but when I go live, I stream for 10-15 hours. I kinda wonder what would happen if I limited it down to 3 hours every day before work only, if that might do some good for my audience to grow
I would say that 10-15 hours is too long. If you cut that time waaaaay down, you have so much more free time to create content for other platforms:) For example, I only stream 3-4 days a week for max 4 hours at a time. And spend my spair time making these vids:)
hello! Im a new streamer and I stream 8 hours in total. 4 in the morning and another 4 at night. Its very exhausting to talk that long. Chat even sees that I talk less and less at the 3 hours mark lol.
Sounds like you are doing waaaaaay too much. In my opinion a new streamer should not stream 8 hours a day. Have you tried perhaps cutting down your stream time and maybe using that spare time to create some video content from your stream?:)
I getting into streaming, but I’m confused what if I do want to stream because I want to show off my gaming skills and personality but also it half part where I do game so… Is that really a bad mind spec? I just want to stream because I want. ❤
I will say that I would LIKE to have views, because in one of my primary games I stream, there's a mod that incorporates Chat points into the game in real time, allowing your viewers to interact with you directly in the game. But chat points are locked behind Affiliate...which is locked behind 50 follows, and avg 3 viewers.... And I've been trying to grow my channel for 7 months now and I have yet to unlock the ability to use this fun mod. So, hence my frustration in the background :D
Idk about not streaming when you’re not in the mood. I would have to test that first and get data on myself. If I see that it’s a bad stream every time I try that, then yeah. But I wonder if it’s like real life. I can be like “man why am I going out. I should stay in. I don’t wanna see him or her and I don’t have time for this and I’m not even in the mood and there’s gonna be cigarette smoke etc” then I get out and talk to my friends and yadayada and I’m like oh my god guys I’m glad I came here. I almost stayed home!!! So maybe stream can turn that around. Who knows
I really hate when streamer just have the same line to a new follower and run through it really fast. I get large streamers but a small streamer with 25 people can say hi and talk to that new follower, even for just one minute. Make them feel good for being there.
any tips for me ive streamed 71 days in a row for atleast 2 hours each day i have almost 300 followers and i try my best to talk to chat as much as possible but hard when i only get like 2-3 viewer i dont have any goals on my screen and try my best to self promote but i dont over do it ive watched some if not most of your videos on how to grow but still am confused can you help?
I'm just starting out streaming and I've been watching your tips but the only down fall for me is i don't have a camera because I do it all through console but just for gaming its pretty decent for me Would appreciate if you guys ever check it out its EpikScuff I play warzone and fortnite But I use a voice changer to mess with people aaha have a good day everyone :)
Great information my friend ,, I stream on twitch but I do it for a hobby and I always appreciate every follow so if I get a follow it means more to me than a donation the bottom line I love gaming and once in a blue moon I will get a follow and that's fine as I work 50 hours a week ,, keep up with the helpful videos

I got this video from a friend, thank you. Its something to take a step back and look. Thank you for this video
Thank youuu!
The way you feel fine after a stream is genuinely enjoy streaming
lol, love these guys who tell you what you should not be doing who just dropped out of the woodwork...
Sorry! My application to start a youtube channel with 100k subs from the get go was denied:( Everyone has to start somewhere my friend.
Also, my tips are from a small streamer, aimed at small streamers:) Thats the whole point:)
Great advice man. Thanks for this as a new streamer
Appreciate that!
Love this guy, great Twitch channel too!
Legend!
Thank you, man. This is rejuvenating.
You're very welcome!
Thanks for the advice. Very Helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
Glad i watched this, had some stuff i needed to hear, thanks c:
You are welcome:D
Once again mate so amazing tips
Thanks bro:)
Great video, you had some great tips for streaming. I def get in my head about streaming when I don't reach goals I set for myself, I need to remember to chill and just have a good time. 😄
Exactly! I have to remind myself this a lot too!
Another great video! Keep it up love watching them
Thanks!
TwoShoes just out there droppin truth bombs every week on TH-cam. Great vid again man! :)
Thanks bud:)
5:17 "If you're feeling low, just don't stream..." I really could've used this advice last week. Lesson learned: next time if I'm not in a great brain space, let it go, don't stream. People will usually understand and sympathise.
They always do:)
Amazing! Thank you!
I just recently started streaming since I'm trying to break out of a mold of fear/anxiety, but I do agree 💯% on this lol. Personally, I only have my window/cam scene and maybe the chat on the side (as if anyone watches me lol).
Well done for taking the first steps! I know streaming really helped with my anxiety so maybe it will help you too! Keep it up:)
@@xTwoShoes thanks man!
i appreciate you sm, ive followed a good amount of your advice and my latest stream was the most gratifying & best one yet (,:
Amazing to hear! Thank you!
I definitely get the impression that people have a FOMO that if they aren’t online constantly, they’ll miss the boat when it comes to Subs etc.. But actually it’s far better to just stream when you actually want to. You can’t fake genuine enthusiasm.
Totally agree:)
I do like your Advice but I was going to take a small Temporary Break myself and I almost my Main Goal where I Break 1000 Followers but it's Difficult too! I wish I knew what I'm doing wrong so I can get Across the Finish Line!
This is some really good advice
Thanks a lot!
Any tips on how to reach my microwave goal? ;) Anyways I really agree about the goal thing. Great video!
Hahaha thanks a mil:)
Keep having fun with it and growth will come:)
@@xTwoShoes definitely!
Im 100% on Mental Health, please take care of yourself people, Much Love to everyone!
Happy mind = Happy streamer =happy chat:)
Too late /:
2:19 I only had one and it was a Follower Goal and Ironically I Completed it I was going for 1000 Followers and at the end of September it finally happened! I'll stick to just a Follower Goal!
The tips may not correlate with me as a facebook streamer, but it does become a helpful thing since the fundamentals are the same!
For sure!
Lol this was just entertaining just to watch lmao 🤣
lol thanks :D
i have been streaming for 3 months and just found out your channel, i wish i found it sooner
Well you are very welcome here now!
i dont get tired after streaming. i get hungry after streaming. i get tired after eating.
Oh thanks again for another great video 😺
No problem 😊
Yeah just been trying to find a goo d schedule cause my work changes my hours a bunch so its hard finding a set time
I actually go over this topic in my next vid:) Keep an eye out for it!
@@xTwoShoes I sure will my guy
in my view "backseating" is ok, as long as its not "don't go that way, go this way instead", The actual nonono, for me, is no spoiling lol!
another amazing video !
Thanks again!
Another banger
Just keep going bud! Try put more attention towards the positives in your stream and focus on them:) Keep doing you!
Boom! Great video!
Thanks so much!
This is gonna be quite long, but I advise you to read to the end if you start it
First topic: Don’t squeeze your community, keep the goals visible for you if it’s something driving you forward, otherwise I’d recommend not looking at them all the time (if you like to make statistics, that’s nice to have tho).
To wrap this point up, simply don’t be a dick, don’t troll around and be respectful of others as well as their limitations
Point Tree or something:
I’d like to start with an example from myself, I often can’t sleep properly or at all during the night, does that mean I cancel those streams?
That was my view on the different points, Dan, as usual, great informative video and thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
ok so this is my first youtube commenT lol 😂... THIS ACUSTIC THING IS TRIGGERING ME WTFFFFF
Thanks bro
Any time!
“Give me views !!!!” 🤣🤣
I getting into streaming, but I’m confused what if I do want to stream because I want to show off my gaming skills and personality but also it half part where I do game so… Is that really a bad mind spec? I just want to stream because I want. ❤
rewatching my stream is so painful, i dont have a proper mic and I also sound so 'on the edge' of crying, BUT IM NOT WHYYY
Practice makes perfect:)
@@xTwoShoes yeah :D
Who knows
I just have my webcam and alert. thats about it
good content thank you
You're welcome!
I really hate when streamer just have the same line to a new follower and run through it really fast. I get large streamers but a small streamer with 25 people can say hi and talk to that new follower, even for just one minute. Make them feel good for being there.
100% :)
does twitch have bots for small streamers?, there's always some people who come to my testing streams, and I get nervous xD
Most likely bots or random passers by:) Theres a list of most common twitch bots on google. Just check the names against them:)
any tips for me ive streamed 71 days in a row for atleast 2 hours each day i have almost 300 followers and i try my best to talk to chat as much as possible but hard when i only get like 2-3 viewer i dont have any goals on my screen and try my best to self promote but i dont over do it ive watched some if not most of your videos on how to grow but still am confused can you help?
lol... i can agree sort of, i just started streaming
not sure if you're aware but your twitch isn't actually in a link format in the description, sorry if im being stupid XD
You are not, I most like did it wrong! Thanks for the tip!
@@xTwoShoes no problem just didn't want to be that guy
Good thing I never have this behavior on stream I only stream for the fun with people who just want to chill out and relax
Is it bad to have one goal🤔
Nope!
