Today Capture One has released it's best-in-class image editing software for the iPad. This is a big leap for capture one as they have also introduced Cloud Flair transfer which will work with Capture One Pro on the desktop to sync your edits. This gives you the flexibility to edit on the go and increase the range of your workflow.

You have to be kidding me… as a Fuji and iPad user, I was really looking forward to switching to Capture One. Let's start by the fact that it is a subscription based software, I expect then a well polished, powerful app. It only offers a few simple tools that you can find in almost every single other photo app in the market: exposure, sharpness, dehaze, clarity and basic color grading. No masking, no AI tools to speed up processes, no camera calibration and not even the possibility of changing the film simulation in Fuji RAW files. Or at least I can't find it. This is not a comment from some bored, hater with nothing else to do in life. It's honest feedback, because I would really, really like to have the C1 on my iPad and finally leave the Lightroom forms behind.

Idk if it was updated in the last 2 months, but currently film sim selection is in the same menu as exposure / hdr section.

As a beta tester, I have to say, they should have led with tethering...As a photo editing tool, it's not worth paying the additional monthly fee above my capture one subscription. It does not fill a place of need at a tool. Tethering is a whole other story, and I would happily pay the additional fee for.

Exactly! I’ve known Capture One as a very reliable tethering program and it played a big role in my work flow. It would have been awesome if they entered with it already. I guess I’ll have to wait again.

Subscription model . 5,5 € a month for an app that’s very basic , not for me . There’s only one fully desktop class app for editing photos on the iPad and that is Affinity photo. I bought that one for a one time purchase of 11€

Glad to see it as I've long liked C1 on Mac & Windows machines. But I'll wait for layers and masking before I give it a try.
IMO on an iPad Affinity Photo is the top dog for now. Adobe seems afraid to give Lightroom Mobile the feature set that would make it a proper competitor. Hope C1 doesn't go down that same path. Fun fact: on an iPad I've *never* had to wait for a screen redraw when using Affinity, not even with complex multi-layered image files.

I was a beta tester- and I found the number of (at least for my workflow) key missing features made the iPad version of almost no value... I need curves/levels/layers- with brushes. There would seem to be No reason why all of these features were left out- the M1 SOOC is identical to the desktop/laptop Macs - so the processing power/memory is there. I await a much fuller version for this to be useful on the iPad. Many other iPad apps have all of these features- and these ran on pre-M1 iPads-!!

This is a great update, I hope they will implement all the tools which exists on desktop to the ios app
The Capture One team needs to implement support for network-attached storage.
I want to have all the photos on a server running TrueNas and be able to access and edit my catalogue on any device. Furthermore, Capture One should be capable of working offline by me selecting folder and subfolders that Mac OS, Windows and iOS keeps synced on the local device.
It should be possible to use once own storage server to sync Capture One between any device. The file structure should be robust enough to once and for all stop using external SSD.

DOA as this is subscription based.
If they’re targeting pros (who can justify the cost) it has nowhere near enough features, not to mention calibration of an iPad not being viable…
If they’re targeting amateurs, they’re not going to splash 5 bucks a month until perpetuity to make basic edits.
    What a shame.

I manage the files now in FileBrowser first, rename them, do Metadata in FSNpro, and import in LR, do the quick adjust or selects if needed in the road and export back to a file browser folder for client so i can upload to our Delivery cloud .
( try to avoid it, caus impossible to calibrate the ipad, sadly)
      - So when back in studio, I then can easily Sync "Files" to our archive server and DAM, it. ( Knowing EXACTLY where everything is).

If I can’t use the app as a standalone app, without the need for a subscription, then I’m not interested.
It’s the main reason I dropped Lightroom on the Mac when Adobe forced subscriptions onto us,
and as long as they don’t have the option of a desktop standalone app like it used to be, I won’t be returning to Lightroom any time soon.
I’m fed up being screwed by companies forcing subscriptions onto us… and with this app having a limit on the amount of images you can have in the cloud (I think you said 1,000 images) it definitely is no use for me.

Connecting your camera either wired or wirelessly to the app so when the photographer takes the shot it loads immediately into the editing app (in this case Capture1). Most beneficial is that the photographer can program the app to apply an edit to all the pictures coming in so they and/or the client are seeing closer to what the final result will be immediately, rather than the raws unedited. I hope this answers your question 😊.

I also beta tested this and in a short period of time, I stopped and deleted it.
As a full time documentary, street and travel photographer, for me, a proper mobile workflow should allow for using dual external SSD's for ingest AND editing, something the iPad Pro doesn't allow in itself (And I tried several workarounds to make that happen and in conclusion, it was a joke to try and make happen). As a C1 user, I was hopeful about the initial announcement. After waiting for over a year for this app to become a reality, I was very disappointed in the lack of usability on a mobile device for ingest & editing solution. I was so disappointed, I purchased a same spec'd Macbook AIR (16GB/1TB version which is the same specs as my iPad Pro) and was able to go right back to a proper mobile ingest/editing/backup workflow. I think this is going to not go well for those who think moving to an iPad as a mobile editing solution. Unless you get the top tier iPad Pro(with 2TB storage) in order to ingest your images, users will probably find they become as frustrated as I became. The iPad Pro is a great tool, but it's not a proper mobile ingest/editing/backup solution especially when on multiday trips. In addition, in order to have a proper mobile solution IMO, most will need to purchase the magic keyboard with the trackpad AND Apple Pencil. Sure you get a touchscreen and such with the iPad, but the pricing for that actual setup becomes more than a properly configured Macbook AIR and with the AIR, you have ability to color calibrate the screen, something that can't be done on the iPad Pro. Yes you give up the tactile experience of a touchscreen, but I find that's a non issue for me. And since I use Photo Mechanic first for ingest/select and keywording before I ingest into C1 (which allows me to also dual copy to matching external SSD's), that's also a no go on the iPad since Photo Mechanic developers have flat out said they will not be developing for iOS. Finally, paying a subscription fee will be an issue for many especially if they are already using LR on their iPads. Overall, a ho hum app that will be used by some but most I think who are serious shooters will find it to be underwhelming.
I purchased the iPad Pro based on C1's initial announcement last year. I'm selling it as a result of my in-depth testing.

it is so typical for c1 to over hype and over sell their software. after years ignoring the iOS platform they now finally came up with an iPad version which is in fact a total disappointment. even when you count in the promised improvements the whole file handling and syncing with the desktop is dumb and not really useable for large amounts of images. even simple tasks like rating needs the whole raw file be copied or up and down loaded to be synced with the desktop version . to release a software at this rudimentery stage is not in the interest of the user it is only in the interest of the private equity company owning c1.
